23 A fine example of the Holland School of Dutch Baroque. Vermeer was a master of lighting. Some scholars think he used a camera obscura to get such accurate recreations of light. There are very few Vermeers left, one or two are still missing from the Nazi looting.

Vermeer was a Catholic living in Protestant Holland and some scholars think many of his works have secret Catholic messages.

My stepbrother and his wife, both lifelong hardcore liberals, are big deals in Democratic Party circles and have met Bill and Hillary Clinton on a number of occasions over the years.

According to them, Bill Clinton is freakishly charming. He knows and remembers your face, your name, the names of your spouse and children, what your interests are, where you were and what you talked about the last time you saw him. While he's talking to you, his attention is total. He has a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room.

Both my stepbrother and his wife are obviously biased to liking him, but the man has amazing political gifts. Too bad he's Bill Clinton.

102 Village Idiot,

You know how dads everywhere yell at their kids for turning on the lights at home in the middle of the day? There's no need to put the candles in the candelabra during the day. Same concept.

103 I think my favorite part of the painting is the heavy curtain in the left foreground. We are spying on this quiet scene of an artist and his model. This is further enhanced by having the artist's back to us and the model, although facing us, is not looking at us. We don't belong here. We peek and then retreat back from where we came.

This is very close to being the perfect work of art. The curtain frames the scene beautifully and uses the same colors as the rest of the painting as not to distract from the whole. It looks like embroidered velvet, so he's showing how successful, or at least stylish he is. Nothing is out of place or conflicts harshly. The geometric checkerboard on the floor matches the clothes of the artist, and its rigidness is counterbalanced by his curving, flowing lines.

There is so much to write about here.

105 According to them, Bill Clinton is freakishly charming.

Lots of people say this. I think on The Podcast (R.I.P), one of the guests (Nick Searcy maybe?) had a similar anecdote where he was invited to the White House for an advanced screening of one of his movies, and Bill basically had done research on everyone there, and talked with him about his high school football career, or something.

Also noted that Hillary wouldn't say to words to anyone.

This also clearly explains the GOP led silly resolution to force to Trump denounce "hate groups".

Trump could agree but also require all leftist hate groups such as Antifa and SPLC and others by name before he signs or whatever.

Or as normal people would do, simply ignore the nonsense and ask if the GOP has their Obamacare repeal and tax cut/reform bills ready to go.

Of course, Turtle and Eddy Munster want to prove that they can play hardball with Trump if he embarrasses their worthless asses again by -

getting things done in a timely manner which he, Trump, promised to do so he worked with the Dims.

In this case, to get hurricane relief to the people who were hurting most.

Because it's a set-up for the real goal:

They intend to use this to frame "Trump is associated with racists."

This would give them the "Congress agrees" in addition to the already "bipartisan" veneer.

Guarantee that if this passes they'll also want to force Trump to sign it--even if such is never, ever done.

To give them, "he even signed his confession" moment.

From the commie playbook--the public confession before the execution.

And, at the bare minimum, they'll use this to clamor for a series of hearings.

Heckler [imagine ampersand here] Koch, the German weapons manufacturer whose guns are estimated to have killed more than 2 million people since the company was founded in 1949, has quietly adopted the most ethical sales policy of any gunmaker in the world.

The company has pledged no longer to sell arms into warzones or to countries that violate corruption and democracy standards, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, or any African countries.

351 People like John McCain think we are know nothings. He is correct. As many times as I have explained the realities of the Federal monetary system I still see comments about "shrinking the size of government" etc.

One more time:

1. Governments all over the world spend 1/6th of their countries' GDP every year. They do that so that there is enough money in circulation to allow their economy to exist. Each dollar they spend is taxed to zero after it circulates six times.
2. Deficits at the federal level allow extra money so that the economy can grow. Deficits and debt are two different things - and are not equal to each other. A Federal surplus is a very bad thing because it means the economy is shrinking.
3. Money taken in by the Feds in taxes is burnt if it is in cash and simply vanishes into the bit bucket if it is in electronic form. The Feds don't need our money - they print the money.
4. The Feds borrowing is a Progressive/Communist plot to destroy the country. Why would you need to borrow money if you can print it?

It is because Conservatives don't understand these facts that people like McCain think we are ignorant.
