The Morning Report 9/12/17

BerklyCops.jpg

Good morning kids. Up front for this Tuesday is the aftermath of Irma. Florida has been raked end to end; the Keys got hammered, Jacksonville is flooded and although Tampa evidently was hit I've heard it could have been much worse there. Obviously it's going to take time, energy and money to recover, but recover they will. I hope Florida morons and anyone else affected in the region are all ok. And of course Texas too in the wake of Harvey (all but gone from the news cycle, right?).

The other huge story is that we as a nation have cracked the debt record; $20,000,000,000,000 in the hole and no signs of slowing down, Trump or no Trump. And that doesn't even include the over $200 Trillion in unfunded liabilities. If we continue on this trajectory, we will reach a point where even if the government actually does enact measures to pay this down, it will be too late to avoid some form of financial and then societal collapse. But deals must be made, I tells ya.

From hither and yon, Looks like Cheryl Mills will have to answer for her misconduct vis a vis Hillary's e-mails. Note, "have to answer for" does not necessarily mean "be punished for." Nunzio Pelosi had yet another in a series of mini-strokes, Rexxon's State Dept. is still anti-Israel, Deputy Dawg wants FISA to continue and lastly, we have America's model city, Berkeley, were the police are eager to serve and protect.... mainly themselves and the Maoist thugs in control of that place. Sheesh.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

6 When Congress finally gets around to passing a giant spending bill to
keep the government in business for 2018, it likely will include a
number of business-friendly changes to laws regulating foreign workers,

No matter how many times the people have said they do NOT want any more of all this flood of migrants fro third world shitholes they still will bring them in. The only way thgis ends is to primary all the RINO and get rid of all Democrats.

29 The section that Sessions is demanding they make permanent is the section of FISA that Obama illegally used to spy on Republicans. It is due to expire at the end of this year. I say it should be trashed unless they put I some serious safeguards on the FISA judges and use of this section to make sure it is being used as intended and can not be abused by corrupt Presidents like Obama.

Obviously, American oil companies have a very long history with Saudi Arabia. Considering that we now have access to the world's largest oil and gas reserves because of fracking and other technologies, we no longer need them. At least until we take down Iran.
Then again, Joo-hate is Joo-hate, oil or no oil. And Israel is the lynchpin of the Middle East. Tillerson and from all appearance McMustard have to leave and the swamp (literal and figurative) at Foggy Bottom drained and fumigated. It's in our national interest.

This is why I was so utterly disappointed with that debt deal thing last week with Stroke-Me and Schemer. Yeah, I know, tactical political thing etc.

But he has a mandate from people to stop the madness in DC. And a big part of it is the out of control government that is stealing our freedom and the wealth of at least 2 more generations of Americans.

Golden opportunity that was lost to cut the size of government by perhaps a fifth to a third. Oh well.

.There is zero intention of paying down the debt and there hasn't been since the 1980s. I am old enough to remember when they were talking about having multiple years of budget surpluses and how that would be a bad thing for the Country.

The problem with that was there were never any real budget surpluses because we were spending all of the excess Social Security and medicare money that was coming in that was supposed to be saved to pay future benefits.

One day soon there will be an accounting and it will not be pleasant when everyone's Social Security and disability checks get cut 15% overnight and the next time they go to the Doctor they won't get seen bacuse Medicare is no longer paying the bills. Cause there is no way Congress has the stones to attempt to fix anything now.

68 My superficial read about Tillerson's attempt to claw back $75 mil from Israel is that TFG in 2016 signed a $38 BILLION military aid package to them payable over 10 years, but there were some strings attached.

This $75 mil is one of those unmet strings, and frankly a drop in the bucket of the overall aid. So I'm not gonna hyperventilate over this, unless someone wants to tell me why I should. As to Tillerson, if he contradicts The Boss a few more times he'll be gone soon after.

I sat through one of the secession's at a nice place in Maryland on the Chesapeake bay. You got to really, really want to be rehabbed, for it to work.

And OTOH of Trump's team is Nikki Haley, who is very pro-Israel. He sure seems to have a mishmash of people who aren't on the same page.

Lots and lots of heavy wind and a good amount of rain yesterday in upstate SC. And we were only on the very outer bands of Irma. And even well before it hit, we've had what appears to be a very early onset of fall temps. That couples with a mild summer. Which leads me to call for criminal prosecution of the climate change "bible thumpers." It's only fair.

And he was pissed off that we didn't buy immediately.

I'll have my regular contractors do the work for about $400 per window and $4 per square foot on the siding. Apparently, the only way these large companies get business is the financing options they give people who wouldn't qualify any other way.

110 One thing that was done, in my limited understanding of the issue, during the Clinton years was to roll the debt over into shorter maturities. At lower rates. This had the effect at the time of lowering the amount of interest payments necessary to service the debt. BUT, the entire national debt rolls over roughly every four (4) years or somesuch. If/when interest rates normalize, it's Game Over.

One would think. One observation is that financial markets price future events in today, to some extent. They don't wait around till the event actually occurs. How they've been able to keep all those spinning plates in the air up until now is amazing. "The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent." etc.

211 I think I posted this on the wrong thread. Oops.
=================================

From the Kos link regarding evangelicals:

"Most readers here are
aware of the statements and actions of the right-wing, Trump-loving
evangelicals. They call themselves Christians, although their actions
and attitudes bear little or no resemblance to the teachings of Jesus
Christ in the many English versions of the Christian Bible.

But
it's important to remember that simply excoriating "evangelicals," as if
there is one unified group who classify themselves as such, is both
wrong and counterproductive for those of us who embrace social justice.

For
Democrats to speak of people of faith with disdain or disgust is a
self-defeating prophecy and belies our "big tent"umbrella. It also
dismisses a large segment of our base who happen to be people of color
and people of faith."
===========================

I love
how an article supposedly pointing out the need to include evangelicals,
still manages to diss evangelicals. If I could count the many many
times I've been accused of "not acting like Jesus", I'd have to get a
bigger calculator. I love being told how I don't measure up to my faith
by people who think my faith is ridiculous.

And no, there are
not many "Versions" of the Bible. There are different translations of
the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. Different scholars translate
different words differently, according to their best understanding of
the original text.

And anyone who didn't know that Black
evangelicals who vote according to their understanding of the Word of
God, must have a paper bag over their head. Ever listen to a sermon by
the U.S. Senate Chaplain? Or Dr. Tony Evans?

There is a ministry "Every man's battle" which has conferences around the country as there is a Every woman's battle for women whose partners are addicted to this crap. it is sponsored by New Life counseling, I believe. many more women are becoming addicted to it too-Hooray for equality!!/sarc :^(.

ha, right. I forget details on that, but was thinking that was a gimmick to allow the executive branch to spend a trillion without congress ... not sure.

Quantitative Easing ... they (Bernanke) denied they were doing QE at first, and ended up doing $4T+, still "on the books" I guess. QE is "handy" because it is not traditional debt sold as bonds/bills, but is just held by the federal reserve.

So we might as well do all our debt that way, and not have to pay any interest, not owe China any money. I propose we do $20T in QE tied to a balanced budget amendment, but congress would never go for ANY limit on uncontrolled spending. Until they break something, they will keep the pedal to the floor ... they'll have fun fun fun till daddy takes the t-bill away. ha

right, but we have no control on spending now really, and just funding the debt is becoming more than we can pay. A balanced budget amendment for the federal side would more than offset the $20T thrown into the fire, in stifling future runaway spending. (the other $200T in off-book, unfunded liabilities would then have to be face head on with reductions in promises, increased retirement age)

We should have major inflation already but the economy was weak, so it did not show up in prices. Being the world reserve currency allows more stretch for US, but bitcoin and others ... some of those will survive perhaps, and become a real alternative.

Continuing my discussion of the abuse of the 14th Amendment.

The decision to rule that Trump cannot pardon Sheriff Joe is already written.

Just as the black robe in Hawaii had already received his opinion before the hearing.*

And it'll say, basically, that the pardon violates the equal protection clause because, by pardoning him, it denies those seeking civil rights claims against him their civil rights--their equal protection.

Yes, that is not based on any legal principle. And it'll be about 35 pages long to try and hide it.

* (Yes, I am saying there are some serious violations of the ex parte
rules going on. If you could get the metadata and edit history from his

was created before the hearing and that it was created in less than a

294 33 I live on a barrier island in FL near Melbourne (east coast). Lots of wind and rain, but it's a beautiful, sunny blue sky morning now. We were without power for only 24 hours, lost a tree and had some minor wind damage. Otherwise, all's well in and around my house and with my neighbors.

NOAA prelim reports say the storm surge was about 5 feet. No flooding here. We're fortunate and grateful for it. It could have been much worse...

I live in Suntree. Lots of damage here. None to the house or Neighborhood either. My preserve view has taken a new look. A couple of the Oak trees back there are down. The biggest pain in the butt is that everything is closed and nothing to eat!

299 What you never see from the MFM is that there was a compromise associated with that BS Motor Voter law. The Republicans made a "deal" with the Democrats (sound familiar). With Motor Voter was supposed to be a requirement that States purge their voter rolls every four years of dead people, felons, and other people ineligible to vote.

Democrat strongholds ignore that law and nothing is done about it. In Red States where it is enforced they sue to block it and find a complaint Democrat black robe to rule in their favor.

301 Continuing my discussion of the abuse of the 14th Amendment.

If you could get the metadata and edit history from his
word processor on that opinion, it'll clearly show that the bulk of it
was created before the hearing and that it was created in less than a
minute--i.e. copied in.)
Posted by: RoyalOil at September 12, 2017 09:14 AM (/9uFC)

Once the killing starts in earnest, anyone who uses the words ex parte will be immediately strung from a lamppost.

Seriously, of all the things that infuriates the average rube, it's lawyer talk, where the truth gets twisted and black gets flipped with white. Nobody will care what some 35 page document says. They'll hear "some judge told the President he can't do it," and the response will be "string him up!"

It's the only way to defeat rule by law. Kill all the lawyers.

I know lots of you lawyers hate hearing that, but really, it's the only way.

As of 2014, the net financial position of the US govt was -$11.5T.

That does not count the god-awful unfunded liabilities. That is just the sum of it's assets minus it's current liabilities.

State and local govt. together have a positive position of around $7T or some. The whole damn country, private and everything is supposed to sum to about $124T.

But that's just on paper. If one tried to sell all that at once, the price would go to zero.

When the policing of the lawyers fails, it will be up to the people to use their God given and constitution recognized rights to take matters into their own hands (and arms).

When judges do that in cooperation with politicians, I suppose the same rule applies. But the first step would be to hold judges accountable (via impeachment I guess) for purely political decisions that are so clearly against the constitution.

Lawyers are far too "self-policed" as I see it, at least in some communities, or in certain areas of law maybe. The abuse of law on the commoner is common, but people don't respond with their own power (guns?) much yet, I guess because they get fleeced, but not left totally destitute. But anger is rising, and good ole boy cronyism abuses at every level are the norm.

I believe that Trump has the power to create the agency and to convert all the physical assets of the U.S. overnight into usable funds.

Because it would have to be just that fast. When banks closed on Friday, officers of the new agency would move in to all of the largest banks, brokerages and clearing houses to seize copies of the existing loans. Over the weekend, the program would be explained and the process of paying off all existing student, consumer and mortgage debt would begin.

Come Monday, there would be a few in Congress who would question the decision, but after the first couple were hung on a streetlight (by the adoring crowds) the acceptance of the political reality would set in and everything would continue as normal.

Not sure why they wish to keep oil imports as they are. That only helps their military. Regular people do not use oil. They use coal (called yonton, or ondol) to heat their homes. The first time I went to South Korea, they did the same thing. It is actually an ingenious system if you can forget about the fact that carbon monoxide poisoning is one of the unintended features. The next time I moved to South Korea most people were using kerosene instead. Someone posted a link to a documentary about North Korea last week. It shows the coal cylinders that regular people use to heat their homes a couple times.
