Randolf, NJ — Parents of high school teenagers were outraged this weekend after dozens of their children were ordered to undergo forced blood and alcohol tests because officials found a beer can under the stadium during a football game. As parents tried to refuse the tests, they were told their children would be suspended for noncompliance. Naturally, school officials are claiming that the forced blood and urine samples, taken under the threat of suspension, were done in the name of child safety. According to a letter from Randolph Superintendent Jennifer Fano, the school is charged with enforcing the policy of mass drug tests for suspicion of drug or alcohol use among students. The law requires that we send students out to be tested when it appears that they may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Given the events in question, the students in this area of the stadium were brought in to the school, separated into classrooms, and parents were contacted to pick their child up and have them screened. District policy and regulation states that failure to comply with a screening is deemed a positive test result and will result in a suspension from school.Key sentence, .....when it appears that they may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

I liked last season overall but I thought it was odd that absolutely every character was horrified that Mr. Garrison won, even though presumably half of them voted for him. I'm guessing Matt and Trey expected Clinton to win like everyone else and they didn't know how to write a Clinton loss. I don't know if I'll follow this season as closely.

It's cool and pleasant here, and my MiL's retirement community didn't suffer any damage at all.
My Tampa, FL family are okay, as are my Tallahassee family. We're all so very, very blessed.
River St. in Savannah was flooded, which didn't happen with Matthew, and Tybee Island as well. Several friends of ours on our island had neighbors flooded.
I'm about done with hurricanes/tropical storms less than two years apart. God bless those who have suffered horribly.

It was a good idea, but not a particularly good plan. It could/should have worked in theory. But, there was no practical way to get the forces required ashore in time to ensure success. Amphibious landing that was slow and delivered in penny packets. They had the numbers and material to do it, but the actual landing was a bust.

The real huge difference between Earth and Venus is the density of its atmosphere. Venus has an atmosphere like soup. Most of the sunlight that falls on the planet is absorbed in the atmosphere before it ever reaches the surface.

At best, the school should be allowed to ask the parents for permission to drug test them (as the students are, after all, the ultimate responsibility of their parents and it is their parents who have the power to make decisions for their children) but the idea that the school has any sort of right to test any and all (basically) is insane.

I think of when my grandpa was in the Veteran's Home and how many of the Vets would have families that would rarely, if ever come to visit. My mother would visit him 2-3 times a week and I would go often when I was home from school.
So you can go through all of the work of raising kids and then they drop you off in a retirement place as if you're a bag of dirty laundry that someone else will take care of.

Trump said specifically in his campaign rallies that he would end DACA(because it is unconstitutional and was going to be struck down by the courts) He also said that the Dreamers were low on his list of priorities to deport, and also said numerous times that he had a "heart " about their situation.
I'm amazed at the number of people who either didn't listen or decided to transpose his comments into their own thinking on the Dreamers.
As of right now, Trump has ended DACA , said he wouldn't enforce deportations regarding dreamers for six months to give Congress time to come up with a workable plan for these people.
The people who have registered with the government under DACA have provided more information as to their status, relatives, arrival, education etc. than the typical green card holder we have in the country today. They are either in school, working or about 900 of them are in the military. Unlike the millions of others who have been allowed to come in as refugees, etc. and are living on welfare, food stamps, etc. with 20 other relatives in public housing such as Somalis.
They are the least of my concerns as far as being here illegally. They also are looking at only getting permanent residency , people screaming about this act like these people are going to be turned into citizens tomorrow.

And the benefits of undoing it and starting strict enforcement on those in it is that illegals will think three times before they start jumpiing at chances to get licenses and other gifts from traitors in the various governments. That benefit, by itself, makes it worth doing all the more.

You talk about winnable issues. I'll give you a winnable issue set. Even better, one that exploits the massive political vulnerability of your opponents, indulges the unimpressive humanitarian impulses of the president, and - here's the magic - makes indulging those impulses other than disastrous, as a policy matter.
As a few of us have been saying for quite a while, you "trade" DACA (oh - not a sh***y one, as the usual idiots are crafting, but a very restrictive one, with tricks to compel actual enforcement of said restrictions) for the whole buffet: RAISE, full life-cycle border barrier $, mandatory E-verify, binding appropriations law making "sanctuary" lawlessness unbearable for the insurrectionists, Kate's, AND a fix for the 14th amendment "legislation" by the courts.
Last one might be bargained away, as it's more complicated. First four are essential - without them, DACA - because of context and history - will be even more disastrous than Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty.
So - tactical, but also substantive. And not a hint - even with wide-open opportunities like the Hill liaison's public appearance yesterday - that anything at all is in the works. He didn't want to "bind" the WH. Fundamental misunderstanding of the political dynamics, at the least, in evidence there. Non-public info on WH body language on this is even more discouraging.
Nothing is done, yet. So, no hair on fire. But the lighter fluid can, and matches, are arranged on the table. Close to impossible to believe Trump would squander the unbelievable leverage and potential that circumstances have gifted him here. We'll see.

No, but stating that "I'll revisit it if Congress doesn't pass a DACA law in 6 months" very much is the same as saying "I'll renew DACA in 6 months if they don't get amnesty".
If Trump were smart (he's not), he'd have used DACA as a negotiation asset. Instead he bluffed, then immediately announced that he's bluffing.
Like it or not, some form of DACA will stay. The vast majority of Republican voters are in favor of it. The real question is what we'll get in exchange. Trump's answer? Better media coverage for Trump.

Prpblem is if such a deal is struck, our end of the of the bargain will be implemented immediately. The Dems may allow funding and implementation for say a border wall or mandatory e-verify. However, once the amnesty takes place they will have swarms of lawyers and activists descend like a plague and find judges to put a stop to their end of the bargain. But there will be no way to take back the citizenship of the Dreamers. Desm cannot be trusted in any way.
Any deal must have the enforcement mechanism fully in place, functioning and shown to be effective before any sort of amnesty is given. If Trump agrees to anything less he he will get suckered like Reagan.

This deal is opposite to both and goes further to enshrine in law, eventually, the illegal, un-Constitutional power-grab by Barky (that Barky should have been impeached and convicted for - one of many, for sure).
To call opposition to this "trolling" is really ridiculous. This is a very serious matter and it goes right to the heart of Trump's campaign and what he was elected to do (or not do, in this case).

I raised the concern about no linkage with DACA before the DACA announcement. Nothing is yet done. Just puzzled that said linkage wasn't at least strongly hinted at, up front. Trump tweet the night of announcement could be nothing, but could be very bad. Now, Hill liaison dances to avoid any linkage.
Time will tell. But dismissing concern over this is ignorant, and/or unserious.

Man, talk about weird dreams; I rarely remember mine. But this morning I awoke from a dream in which I was attending a car show somewhere, and traveling in a motorhome. And my clothes were in the washing machine, which was on the roof of the motorhome. The washing machine caught fire. I said to myself, "Oh no, can't let my clothes get burned up." So I jumped in the motorhome, accelerated fast in reverse, and then slammed on the brakes. The washing machine tumbled off the roof, and burst open on the ground, extinguishing the fire, and saving my load of laundry.

The hash is based on the IP address. The IP address on mobile phones changes all the time. Hell, I think many of those ISP do a form of NAT, too.
Now me, on the cable modem, my IP address stays the same, unless I disconnect for more than an hour.
IP6 should solve all the address exhaustion problems. Charter is supposed to be going native with IP6, but they haven't done it locally yet. But they do have a tunnel, and I've been using that to get IP6 connectivity just to play for a while now.

217 My BIL died at 1 pm today. It was peaceful - he just stopped breathing - there was no death rattle or gurgling or anything like that (which I have witnessed with other deaths).
So I was a complete and total mess at work and my boss let me leave. For some reason, I went to the cemetery my parents are buried in and said prayers by their graves, although they never knew him. I wanted to tell Mom and Dad that he, unlike husband #1, had treated their daughter - actually, both daughters, really well.
Then I went to the park. It was an absolutely beautiful day here in SE Wisconsin and so I wanted to be outside, but I didn't want to blubber in public in front of the world. Parks - especially when school is in session - are good places to go when you are heartbroken but don't want to cry on your bed. So I cried all afternoon on a bench overlooking Lake Michigan.
Then I came home and watched baseball. The Crew won tonight. That would have made my BIL very happy.
I already miss him so much. There is a hole in my heart.

From the late 70's to mid 80's my brother had so many encounters with the county sheriffs that eventually he and they knew each other on a first name basis.
Fortunately he finally cleaned up his act. And to this day if he crosses paths with one while out and about, they remember him and exchange pleasantries.

No experience. I wanted to have Lasik for nearsightedness, which has plagued me since childhood, but the doctor at the eye clinic said my corneas were too thin to permit the degree of correction needed.
Of course, I have the age-related problem with close-up vision, now, too. But I apparently have incipient cataracts, so I will be able to get "free" Alberta Health Care cataract surgery, and hopefully have a result similar to Irongrampa. A local friend just had his second eye done, and is well-pleased with the result.
I think the age related loss of close vision is due to loss of motion in the eye muscles, so using Lasik to fix that might result in loss of some distance vision.

They are getting pissy about ad blockers now. That was what prompted me to install a script blocker. Something in Drudge's code started giving me some error screen that connection couldn't be made. It was sneaky, and it was some ad script.
In many cases, you can defeat the ad block detection by selectively blocking the right scripts. It's war of move and counter move.
If the damn ad people wouldn't be so intrusive, taking over the damn system and writing these bloating CPU hogging scripts with their damn ads, I wouldn't care, but when the ads bog down a modern multi core, high GHz machine, it's just getting ridiculous.

Anyway, this place just doesn't seem the same with him gone. He was an institution. Not related to him in the slightest, but his passing really got to me. Realizing things change and all that.

I have an older machine. It's a single core x64 thing I built from spare parts, and still have it and use it occasionally. At the time I built it, it was faster than my main machine (which I upgraded twice since, and I'll likely do it again soon. New mo/bo and CPU )
Anyway, without an ad blocker, the browser will slow the thing to a crawl with 100% CPU usage. It will run Win7 x64, but just barely. Even running XP x64, the damn browser would bog it down, all because of the ads.

JIm, it would be really hard to sum up his life in a couple of paragraphs. When he was a kid, he didn't like school much and got into a lot of fights.
His parents didn't know what to do with him so they sent him to a very strict Catholic all boys boarding school in Illinois. He said later he dropped out of college after freshmen year because they were repeating the stuff he learned in high school.
My sister says she doesn't know how word got out, but she's been getting messages all day long from old hs classmates of his (from places like Australia and Panama) who say, "When I drove my car into a ditch at 3 in the morning during a snowstorm, he was the one i called because I knew he'd come through for me...."

I'm glad he's praying. In the past I've been concerned he's sort of nominally Christian, but I know that he was raised in the faith and at his inauguration used a Bible given to him by his mother at his Confirmation. We are instructed in either 1st or 2nd Timothy (I think it's 2nd Timothy, but I'm having a memory lapse at the moment) to pray for our leaders so that we might live in all peace. Given all the people against him, President Trump and his family as well as that of Micael Pence need all the prayers they can get. I believe in prayer.

As opposed to voting for a losing candidate and getting a Barry Soetoro who disappointed me 100% of the time.
I keep telling people disappointed with Trump to think back to the election. The choice was starkly binary: Trump or Bill Clinton's wife. The People made the right choice, now it's up to us to get Congress to get off their lazy never-Trump asses and actually do the job we sent them to Congress to do. Or we need to primary or vote them out of office and replace them with someone who will do the job we hired them to do.
About the only real thing I'm disappointed with is Jeff Sessions. I expected better from him. It looks like Sessions was a better senator than AG and maybe should resign and go back to the Senate.

She might be a sociopath or a malignant narcissist in which case you can indeed pray for her although those conditions are very difficult to treat, but with God all things are possible. God does and has coverted sinners-witness Paul who imprisoned Christians and watched Stephen being stoned, and we are told to pray for our enemies. (I'm approaching this from a Christian perspective. I'f you're not Christian would have to apply your own religious perspective) If anyone needs conversion and healing it would be Hillary. That doesn't mean you can't pray for justice or that she should be held accountable for her actions, but Scripture's pretty clear in my mind that we are to pray for people don't like-that they would have the same thing we want for ourselves-that we would become closer to God and more like Jesus Christ.
