Hypocrite...Thy Name Is U.C. Berkeley

This is a fascinating example of the perfect tone-deafness of the Left and the Academy, but I repeat myself. One would think that the administration's concern for people's "sense of safety and belonging" would extend to those speakers whose beliefs were stifled, violently in many cases. Where is Ben Shapiro's counselor? Where is Ann Coulter's therapist? They should buy Milo Yiannopoulos an "emotional support" dog!

In reality, as far as mental illness goes, the insanity of "gender identity" nonsense is relatively benign. We are possibly on the cusp of something here, where YOUR reality is oppressive to all sorts of folks who have a different one.

Not just the obvious psychotics (who are STILL supposed to be allowed to direct their own care... I'm not joking), but also the vast ocean of people who suffer from mood disorders. Which is how we get to "safe spaces" and trigger warnings and all that. My anxiety/depression is YOUR fault.

Then we get to the personality disorders, and oh brother look out! We're already at a point where the pee-sigh-chiatrists want to write those out of the diagnostic manuals, because they don't have pills for it. Delusion, heel thyself!

Yes, I spelled 'heel' correctly.

I think the answer is complicated, but the short version is, that the way mental health is delivered, patients are so trained to believe their solutions are found in someone else's decisions to provide them with aid and comfort. Usually in the form of a pill.

If... and that's a big IF, mental healthcare systems were to deliver effective treatment, there WOULD be a line at which patients are allowed to make their own decisions, and we only get to the other side of it when the person is incapable of making rational choices. I.E., those safety situations (self harm/harm to others).

94 Let's look on the positive side.

Indoctrinated, misinformed and clueless on history Leftists can not adjust to changing circumstances.
They can attempt to seize power only in a stable society. They are made as vulnerable as small children in an evil world. They are functionally mentally ill.

We know how to adjust. We've had to do it since the 1970, when a Constitutional self-goverened went into a power dive. And we are thinking of what-ifs. I saw on a previous thread that one of the Morons had a plan to loot Costcos in the burning times.

We know winter is coming, and we are hardening our hearts to survive it. Not a desired path, but one we will be forced on. And we, as the ones carrying the torch of American exceptionalism, will prevail.

My oldest sister got a graduate fellowship to go to Berkeley in 1973, when she finished her BA at a state university in Ohio, graduating Summa cum Lauda.
She was a very bright woman (still is), and had the lefty political attitude to fit in.

106 This is rampant. We send my son to to a Christian, conservative college in Michigan. Hope College. It is supported mainly by the DeVoss family. Not only did they have vigils when Trump got elected, but the "Latino" club wants to have a vigil for DACA. Citing Christian principles, of course.
The left cannot be reasoned with. Everything is subordinate to their personal desires.
At their core, they are narcissists, which is why they cannot be reasoned with. They absolutely believe that they are special, and are thus accorded special rights that others may not have.
They cannot see hypocrisy, which is why that is an ineffective argument. It is also why their coalitions inevitably break apart, although only after wreaking havoc throughout society. There is no overarching principles that unite them, only power for their specific small narrow group.
When I email this clown asking him to cite the references in the bible that says that people should benefit for their crimes, or that people should separate themselves into racial groups for the purpose of acquiring power, what is it you think he will cite?
At that point, he will know more than the bible, I expect.

My oldest son actually became MORE conservative after college, because the experience taught him a lot about dysfunction people, ideas and their consequences. This wasn't the way it was supposed to happen, but he does reject a lot of the premises of the welfare state, because he saw the real consequences. Well, that, and working part time in a liquor store (to pay for his living expenses) in a really dodgy neighborhood, and seeing the welfare riff-raff that spend all their welfare money on booze.

Those two things meshed rather nicely. He voted for Trump, and still isn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Except he and I talk about what a criminal Hillary is.

122 RE: all of this as thought control... IDK.

If you tell someone they are a victim long enough, they will act as though they are a victim.

However, I think that if you take that person out of the victim environment, and tell him he's NOT a victim, eventually he's going to stop seeing himself as a victim.

Right now, universities are using their students as lab rats. "Let's treat them like babies and see what happens. Let's indoctrinate them."

But eventually... it might take a decade or so, some will get their degree and go back into the real world, and find out that they are NOT babies. And adapt.

Is there any in the horde that have been involved in fraternities and sororities? To me, it would seem that would be a good place to kill this "I'm a baby, give me crayons" philosophy. I have never been involved in it, however, it seems to me that, outside of the drinking and whoring (things fragile babies don't do) these organizations do volunteer work, and could be used to break the eternal liberal/ baby/victim mindset.

Posted by: mustbequantum at September 10, 2017 12:41 PM (MIKMs)

Yeah, mbq is correct.

Until, early in the 1990's, gender was strictly used as a linguistic device.

So, say in Spanish, the word casa would be of the feminine gender because it ends in an "a".

But, maybe in some other language, their word for "house" is masculine.

This is where all of this "gender is fluid" silliness came from cuz in the world of grammar and linguistic that is indeed true.

The gender of the word "house" depends on the word used for house and in what language.

When the Left suddenly switched to identifying people by "gender", I wondered what it was all about.

Now we know.

Another long term plan- 25 years or so- to undermine the foundations of Western Society.

And who do we have on "our side"- dull little jelly beans like McConnell and Ryan and lame-ass #NeverTrumpers.

"Gender" is misused and misunderstood by the Left in the same way they misunderstood and misuse "relativity" and "chaos theory"

So if they have to believe or pretend to believe that there are 72 genders, man-made global warming is killing us and that Trump is evil, to continue earning that paycheck, they will . 141 I also think it can be cynically boiled down to social standing and career aspirations. Millenials are obsessed with both. So if they have to believe or pretend to believe that there are 72 genders, man-made global warming is killing us and that Trump is evil, to continue earning that paycheck, they will . And they just don't want to jeopardize their social standing with people who are in a position to advance them by making waves with with a dissenting opinion. They WILL be ostracized.
And THEY KNOW IT.

Yep. Another outcome of the educational industrial complex: Pretend school is free. Ours still does need help from time to time but she's usually very thankful for it. She appreciates everything we've done for her and tells us so often. (She's adopted....biologically she is my husband's niece). She loathes her biological mother. (Biological father is dead...drug/alcohol abuse).

I know what you mean, but I think there was a natural tendency of Americans throughout most of our history to not believe everything you were told and to question assumptions and authorities. So I believe that most of the hippies, raised by WW2 vets, were simply a continuation of that tradition. But then they got co-opted by the commies.

175 Berkeley claimed the title of free speech mecca from the 60's I suppose.

But were they ever really about the virtues of free speech and individual liberty? I think not. It was the (commie) radicals that demanded platforms for Soviet backed "counter-culture" revolution. They were anti-Americanism then, they are anti-Americanism now.

Now though, they have power to shut up opposing views, and they make full use of it. The mayor orders a stand down as antifa smashes and burns property, and almost no one is arrested unless hard evidence is forced upon them (e.g. bike lock assaulting prof'). The university forces several hurdles in front of conservative groups on grounds they have to hire police to keep their (crazed) students from assaulting the patriots.

Orwell (and others) had it right 70 years ago. Commies will kill to get their top down control. They plotted the strategy to dominate our media in the 50's and were massively successful. "Free Speech" was never their banner issue ... "fascist" domination was always at the core, still is.

At my polling place, the aged election officials who check everyone in have these books that are alphabetized. You have to sign or initial for yourself, and if you look at the book, everyone whose name surrounds yours, you can see if they voted or not.

So.. if that's how it works for him, that's what happened. He went to the polls, because the absentee ballot didn't come, and he saw that someone else already voted for him.

Or... no one did! Could be he went to the polls, and they wouldn't let him vote because he was listed as someone who got an absentee ballot!!

205 57 The Left is filled with children who hate Mommy and/or Daddy.

Therefore, all means of order and discipline are EVIL.
Posted by: True the Note at September 10, 2017 12:31 PM (SJ184)
---------------------------------
The first might be true but the second is FALSE.

The Baby Boomer leftists, at least the followers, were in rebellion against authority. The watchwords that had mass appeal were 'freedom' and 'liberation.'

But students today are so docile that it is almost frightening and the activists are not the least bit shy about demanding that strict order and discipline be imposed on their environment.

Maybe the Boomers were rebelling against rules because their parents actually had them and youngsters today are screwed up because their parents didn't have very many.

Or maybe it's the type of 'daddy issues' in play. The Boomers had fathers and might rebel against the paternal order as part of a growing up process, a search for independence. The young today, especially on the Left, often don't have fathers at all and rarely have masculine ones. This may create a deep need in them for the order that has been missing from the start.
I dunno.

We made the decision last night to stay. Most of our friends have stayed, too. We had friends who went to Atlanta and decided to come back this morning.

We're expecting T. S. force winds beginning tonight and through tomorrow, with the dreaded spin-off tornadoes. Husband's friend is with the Port and lives near us, and he and his family stayed. He's in constant touch with the NOAA and keeps us informed.

We have a generator and everything is battened down. African student in in the Atlanta area with a planned weekend event for this year's foreign students. Our other student from a couple of years ago is with us, as is son and dog. Dog and kitteh are tolerating each other.

I'm worried sick about cousins who chose to stay in Tampa/St. Pete and Tallahassee. Yeesh.

We have water, food, and no threat of flooding for us. So we're doing as well as can be expected.

I've never been in the service, but my understanding from others here is that a) you cannot rely on a recruiter's promises and b) having a relationship with someone while enlisted is difficult. I would think that a guy fluent in Japanese and who as worked abroad would have some pretty good options. Japanese is a bitch to learn for native English-speakers.

As someone else stated: psychiatrists are removing certain mental problems from the list of disorders. True that - but it took me too long to realize it. My SD lives with me, was 'with her', a failed lesbian, college dropout, predator of young confused women, lazy layabout and a rather unhappy sort. In the past, I made it too easy for her.

I've carried her for a long time but my patience has now reached an end. I don't drag strange women back to my house at all hours so I sure as hell won't allow her to. Pisses her off. I've made it known she is out in Feb. I've given her all the tools she needs to live on her own. But nothing I do will force her to grow up and be an adult unless she is gone and living on her own.

She's PO'd with my natural sons for making something of themselves by working their asses off after the death of their mother.

As someone else stated: psychiatrists are removing certain mental problems from the list of disorders. It's OK to be angry.

My Dad was an ex Marine, and was really big on personal responsibility. HUGE. Tough love.

As in "if you get your @ss thrown in jail, don't call me, I'm not bailing you out." Mom was more understanding.

BTW... never did any of those things I was warned about (I suppose jail/pregnant/drugs were the big ones) and now live a quiet, respectable life.

Did I make some bad choices? Hell yes. Mostly they were in relation to my career path; however, they did enable me to do other things, like actively help both parents through horrible, long lasting illnesses. So even the horrible bad choices had upsides.

Yes, take the DLAB (Defense Language Aptitude Battery), in which you attempt to puzzle out a made-up language based on recognizable patterns:

Aptitude_Battery

Way, way back when I took it, I saw that it was based on Russian and aced it (I had just taken Russian in HS). It has evolved over the years, I'm sure.

And then you too can join what we current and ex-Squids call "The Air Force Mafia".

AF recruiters will give him an enlistment contract in writing as long as he qualifies for the specific spot through testing. My son qualified for Nuke school in the Navy but opted for missiles instead. It was all in the contract. It's not like the old days where a real bright kid will get stuck in the galley. Still still, 'needs of the Navy' (or AF) is rule number one.

344 When I was in kindergarten there were two wooden framed sandboxes right outside the classroom. We played with metal pails, shovels, and Tonka trucks. I'm sure today this would be considered toxic, terribly unhealthy, and stupendously dangerous. My teacher was elderly and handled 30 plus kids without any help or a whit of trouble.

348 The problem with joining the USAF is that they are an old force in terms of their capital equipment. They simply must recapitalize with new aircraft. They're on the hook for massive new expenditures in the coming years.

The shopping list is lengthy. The F-35 Faceplant that still hasn't been bought in quantity. "Penetrating Counter Air", the F-35 successor. B-21, the B-2 heavy stealth bomber successor. New tankers. Probably new AWACS and JSTARS.

Plus, paying the refurbishment bill for parts of the existing air wings which simply can't be allowed to stop flying because USAF would collapse without them. The KC-135 tankers are scheduled to be kept in service till 2050! Some of those had service entry when Eisenhower was President.

The brass really have no idea how to make the nut on any of it.

There's a lot of handwaving and pettifogging about how, well, at the end of the day, the Congress will realize that America needs an Air Force and will pony up.

They won't get all the money they think they'll get. And the shortfall will come out of the hides of USAF service members. It's already started. Maintainers are being run ragged and are retiring early. Pilots are bailing to the airlines as fast as they can.

A Cornell University fraternity is being pressured into apologizing, and may even face disciplinary sanctions, after one its members was overheard chanting “build a wall.”

According to The Cornell Daily Sun, members of the school’s Zeta Psi chapter were overheard chanting phrases about “building a wall” and later about “building a wall around the Latino Living Center (LLC),” residents of which initially heard and filed complaints about the remarks.

Meanwhile, La Asociación Latina (LAL) published a statement condemning the comments, saying the LLC community was already under “a lot of duress” following the news of President Trump’s plan to cancel the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

I hope you are right, but I don't have a good feeling about it. Ever since the election, there has been a drumbeat about her popular vote & EC being about slavery.

The Dems are nothing if not persistent & good at changing the national conversation. That's how we got here. Combine with the Tech oligarchies & SJWs & college indoctrination...I could see it happening.
.

.
.If the dems were so good at this stuff we would have had complete and total gun confiscation long ago but we don't.

In fact pretty much the entire Country went against them in regards to gun control and other things. No Federal $15 minimum wage, more and more States with right to work laws, etc.

Dems will regret it. The GOP does not spend a lot of time in places like California and New York because they are perennially lost causes with 15 point margins. If all of the sudden shaving off 5 percent of the margin means something, the Dems will have to spend a bunch of money in former after thought states. Same is true for Republicans, but the Dems have more target rich environments to defend. Good bye large urban center hegemony?
