Google Has Declared War On You

gad saad cancellation.jpg

He was referring to this:

And the same thing happened to Diamond & Silk, two enthusiastic Trump supporters:

There was also another conservative on Twitter, who unfortunately I did not capture and I can't remember now, who complained that he had a video demonetized with the message "we reviewed your video and have determined that it violates our terms of service blah, blah, blah", only it was a live stream scheduled for later that evening or the next day, and it hadn’t happened yet. There was literally no content to judge, and YouTube yanked it, anyway.

I would squeal like a teen-aged girl at a Justin Bieber concert if Trump wrote an EO declaring that Google, YouTube and Facebook are public utilities and are to be regulated as such. Throw in a heavy dose of 'commerce clause' and my joy would be complete.

But... but... principles.

Not all that long ago, I would not like this violation of the small government, laissez-faire principles I adhered to, but you know what, I just don't care anymore. Screw 'em. We're in a knife fight for our survival against those who want to turn our country into a socialist craphole run by a women's studies department, so arguing about the virtues of limited government is pointless and counterproductive. That is not the battle we have to fight.

So yeah, I've got no problem with using the weaponized government that progressives have constructed to bring them to their knees. They've sewn the wind, let them reap the whirlwind.

Open Thread, by the way.

1 Stop buying stuff
2 Do only what the government directly compels you to do.
3 Pay in cash with a winkwink
4 Cheat the government whenever possible
5 Steal all your entertainment
6 If you know of tax cheating, keep your mouth shut
7 If called to jury, refuse to convict if you think the law unjust
8 Discriminate in all your private dealings, without openly saying so
9 If you see a CoC sticker on a business, go elsewhere
10 Vote against all tax levies, particularly school levies
11 Buy firearms and ammo. It's not simply a just-in-case, it's a good financial investment of small sums when savings are yielding 1/4 of a percent.

Nope. I had a huge comment that appears to have gotten eaten on that very topic.

I follow several pro gamers on twitter and nearly all of them have been freaking out because their videos have been demonetized. One of them is someone whose videos routinely have 100k views and his total view count is over 10 million.

There's no way this is political. As best anyone can tell, there's a bot that's flagging anything with guns or profanity in the thumbnail and demonetizing it. One guy posted the same video but with one of the thumbnails being a puppy and that one was fine.

Alphabet is destroying a ton of good will by content creators with this. Given that the YouTube business model requires people to provide content for free or for a very small kickback on the ad revenue, this seems like a dumb idea.

101 Self-willowed:

Yeah, The Witch is very well worth it but a large part of what makes it effective is that it's psychological horror more than only brutality. You are probably going to want subtitles because having the cast speaking in 17th century English style is great from the sense that it already makes what you are watching seem strange but it's difficult at times to follow.

Posted by: alexthechick - a manatee life for me at August 22, 2017 01:37 PM (mf5HN)

Well...I would say what makes it effective is that we, as modern folk, want it to be psychological. When in the "reality" of the movie, it is straight up the Witch and Satan at work.

We are even shown the Witch and what happens after the triggering event. Yet, people want to see this as a psychological image.

It's this dichotomy that makes "The Witch" so powerful.

Each family member has a weakness and they are worked upon until they fall under Satan's spell or are killed or both.

That's what makes the final reveal so powerful and the ending so impressive- it is a straight up dive into the irrational and satanic.

Some SJW-oriented clowns want to see this as a moment of feminist empowerment.

It's not. It is a moment of Satanic triumph. The victim thoroughly mesmerized gladly embraces damnation.

Very neat story-telling.

The "Witches of Eastwick" is a similar storyline and climax where the Progtards totally failed to understand damnation and mistook it for feminist liberation.

102 No one is forced to use face-goo-tube-twit. If you know a local business supports progressive BS, then do not shop there and take an extra step of making sure other people stop as well.

Sure, there are billionaires at the top of this progressive BS, but if all capitalists who love this country started an economic war against the marxist, ignorant left, the results for them would be catastrophic.

If this country is going to be torn apart, well then let's get to it because I for one am sick to hell of these anti-American assholes and would love to live my life in peace away from these commie nutjobs.

145 This will in time require a counter-offensive, not just complaints.

Lawsuits for one thing ... Germany got like $3B from Google for manipulating results to favor advertisers, or something. It will take much more than that. We will have to boycott those that advertise on FB, for example, and let them know. Target one advertiser at a time ... a coordinated "solidarity" attack to let them know they can be taken down a notch.

Terms of service can't be unfairly applied. It sure seems like this Google/PayPal/FB War was coordinated with Charlottsville and the media, and the Soros/Creamer subversives surely are involved.

160 Into three digits, so going briefly OT: I notice that in the prior thread, a question was asked about whether there were any good books of history on the Soviet military effort in Afghanistan.

_The Hidden War_ by the late Artyom Borovik. Focusing largely on the perspective of the ordinary anonymous Red Army draftee soldier.

_The Bear Went Over The Mountain: Soviet Combat Tactics in Afghanistan_, by Grau and Glantz.

The latter title was translated by and published by the Army's internal think tank at Fort Leavenworth, back in the 1990s, during the post-Soviet pre-Putin thaw. It was duly distributed to professional military libraries all through the Pentagon's sprawling network of same.

When the USA went into Afghanistan in 2002, not one of those lessons for which Ivan had paid terribly costly tuition in blood was heeded. Not a single one.

As Trump doubles down on Afghanistan, I fully expect those lessons to continue to be ignored and for more blood to be shed for absolutely nothing, no meaningful long-term result at all.

A "war" would involve the destruction/capture of Google's/Twitter's (or which ever other company's) facilities and the killing/capturing of their employees. There's a 0/100 chance of that happening.

There's a marginally higher chance for some lawfare, and maybe a half-assed boycott. One or two people might even be motivated enough to dump their stock, but that's about it.

179 "GOOGLE is not spelled G-O-O-L-A-G. It is spelled E-V-I-L."

The original Google manifesto (and isn't it telling, the choice of words there) put forth "Don't be evil" as a corporate creed.

Of course, the same document pledged stoutly and strictly that Google would NEVAR stoop to the sordidly commercial practice of altering results and rankings of searches in exchange for money. What Google told you when you asked a question would be trusted, authoritative, reliable, and never be for sale.

Then they quietly shitcanned all that idealism when the smell of money became sufficiently strong.

Fenelon can address the work situation better than I since FenSpouse worked there and apparently it was as bad as people say.

I read somewhere (awesome sourcing I know) that Amazon pays a substantial sign on bonus up front for programmers but with the catch that if you don't stay for two years, you pay it back. Many people pay it back.

There have been stories in the UK press that the pressure is on the Amazon two hour delivery service drivers to make so many deliveries within a certain amount of time that the drivers are peeing into bottles in their vehicles.

My utter and probably totally wrong WAG on this is that Amazon is treating human beings as just another piece of code. You need to do this as efficiently as possible and if you don't you'll be deemed a bug and purged.

We are even worse now. And have less excuses for it.

Waving around guns is easy. Calling your Congressmen and building new Internet platforms, and doing the actual work of a democracy day in and day out. That is hard work.

And we have been beaten. Badly. B/c the insane side has been doing it...the hard work...for years. Decades.

So if we end up losing, or getting to the point where guns need mass usage, then kiss your ass good-bye.

Actually, if the Twitter users' lawsuit against Trump for blocking them goes through on its current arguments, YouTube et al will be quaking in their boots. The argument is that Twitter is a type of public square, a virtual marketplace of ideas, and blocking users can be seen as a type of First Amendment violation. I heard a lawyer/professor explaining the arguments and the first thing I thought of were the FCC rules when TV and radio frequencies were a limited commodity.

Yes and no. They are not demonitizing all videos. Just some according to some nebulous standards that are not public or well spelled out, and which, "incidentally" all more heavily handed on conservative leaning or Trump supporting viewpoints, as appears from mass anecdotal and high profile reports. Still waiting to see a high profile lefty getting demonitized.
This all started with a "crisis" of some sponsors ad appearing in content that put them in a negative light (ISIS agitprop, IIRC), followed by a massive pullout of sponsors, until google fixed the problem. They fixed it alright.
And Goolag does not get paid if they don't show an add on a video.

Yup.

I think we're looking at two separate issues. There's purging and blacklisting and demonetizing of people based explicitly on politics.

Then there's hey advertisers got spooked over pewdiepie so we'll create a bot that flags "controversial" stuff and whomever wrote the code knows nothing about gaming and was all eeewww guns are icky! and missed the whole bit about how, apart from Hearthstone and the MOBAs, the most popular games in the world involve shooting things in the face. Which, actually, Hearthstone and MOBAs do as well, just with a facade of a card or fantasy heroes using magic.

Pulling hundreds of thousands of dollars in income off people with no notice and no warning is an awesome way to get sued to hell and gone.

I can't think of a single conservative equivalent to Steyer or any other influential Leftist billionaire. As I understand it, the (in)famous Koch Brothers, the bugaboo of the progressives, are practically puritanical about their particular brand of libertarianism, which means they are emphatically not conservatives.

We're on our own. It's bottom-up grassroots or it's nothing at all.

I would posit that many people supported Trump

Because the other option just promised more abortions, more prosecution of bakers, more making nuns pay for contraceptives, and said that 'deeply seated' religious beliefs would have to change.

Trump is no savior to be sure, but he promised to push back or pause some of the madness of the left.

307 OK, I realize that the issue here is YouTube, but it starts with Google, and that means a Search Engine.

Are you using DuckDuckGo? duckduckgo.com

Is it as thorough as Google? No. Is it good enough? Yeah, about 98% of the time. And the more it gets used, the more money it has to improve, etc. Virtuous circle.

If you didn't know about it, take a look. Make sure to look at the bottom of the page. Scroll down. See the difference between Duck and "Do No Evil, Incorporated?"

Support the good guys. If enough people do that, then they can expand to videos and such. There is nothing unique about Google - just monopolistic.

Take your eyeballs elsewhere. Get off of Facebook, too. You have better things to do than support them.

WSJ (I think) claimed Pewdiepie was a Nazi supporter - their proof was an clip where Pwediepie says "Oh, my critics would have you believe I say '[caricature of Nazi speaking]'" They used his joke about being a Nazi to smear him as a Nazi (why not edit a Dave Chappelle clip to claim he's a KKK wizard?).

pewdiepie pulled some stupid stunt involving Nazi stuff and that was well before all this idiocy. IIRC, he hired some guys off Fiver to give Nazi salutes or somesuch and made other allegedly anti-Semetic comments. Look, I am most decidedly not a fan of his but claiming what he did was racist was idiotic. His whole schtick is that he does stupid stunts and says outrageous things. He hates everyone.

The WSJ lost its mind and got his deal with Disney cancelled. That, in combination with, say, an ad for Colgate running on what turned out to be a no shit ISIS recruitment video, got the advertisers spooked as to being caught up in a boycott when they did not intentionally place an ad on a video.

Of course, now you have the hard core SJW deciding what is controversial and here we are.

330 Christopher R Taylor: "That said, busting up monopolies doesn't bother me much, particularly caustic and damaging ones."

Also, these monopolies aren't being monopolistic in the competitive "free market" sense of the word. They buy politicians, hence, legislation that serves themselves. So I have no compunction whatsoever in going after these tech behemoths because it isn't in any way free enterprise anymore. There is fascism. They are selectively admitted to advisory boards and Congressional hearings by virtue of special access and quid pro quo. They set policy. None of these big players go in to any of these government entities and ask for guidelines or restrictions to their own economic participation. It's the fox guarding the hen house.

So, yeah, the idealism and theory of "free market" is an illusion. I'm at the point of insisting that these big businesses get anally probed and handcuffed because, essentially, we are having the government probe itself. Kinda ironic.

"Free enterprise" means "enterprise generally free of government control," and it's stunning that the Silicon Valley people we hear are so smart don't foresee that when their "enterprise" morphs into a partisan political campaign the people on the other side of the spectrum are going to leverage their own political power in response.".......

The problem is that the platforms are not only proprietary, but they are close or at least with limited interoperability with anything else.

Many people now interact on Facebook, and unless your on Facebook too, you can't keep in touch.

The solution isn't just alternatives, but alternatives with open source standards that can interact with each other, like e-mail.

For example, instead of Twitter, one could use GNU social, which is like Twitter, but allows people to run their own servers and sign up to follow people on any other server, thus acting more like e-mail than a closed environment.

https://www.gnu.org/software/social/

That way, we don't have to worry about any gatekeeper.

I understand that many Christians voted for Trump and did so, in part because they were against abortion or other things which they consider not to be in keeping with their Christian values. Trump did well with Evangelicals, I understand. However, the passage that you quote is about people being disciples of Jesus and being brought before councils and leaders specifically for their witness to Jesus Christ. Trump is not going to have an altar call at this rally in Phoenix and Antifada will not be attacking people (if they do) simply because they are Christians, but rather because they are Trump supports and it is convenient to to label all of them as Neo Nazis. We may very well get to the point in the US where that happens -as opposed to being sued because they are Christians who don't want to make wedding cakes for gay marriage receptions,. However right now in The US we are "safe' in the practice of our faith-physically speaking. Scripture says persecution will happen but we are not there yet. I support Donald Trump but he's not my Messiah and I would hate to put myself on the same level l with Christians around the world being slaughtered for their faith. I hope I have the courage to stand up for Christ if it comes to that rather just being beaten up by goons who want to demonize Trump supporters simply for being Trump supporters.

It was not life threatening, we could have fired up the oil furnace had we wanted to, but eye opening just the same. "Walmart CEO said Trump is a Nazi."

And again: obvious mistake by Trump from the get-go.

The lefty sympathies of the WMT heirs are evident. Just look at their donation patterns. The Walton foundation has followed the classic pattern of, e.g., the Ford foundation before it.

Sam's Club, which is a WMT subsidiary, has a chief exec who is a black female social-justice-warrior and has said she wants to slash the number of white and male suppliers to her firm.

Wal-Mart itself would suffer a huge reduction in its net profits if EBT purchases were ever to be cut back significantly. It's the private sector distribution arm of Uncle Sugar's public welfare state.

Why anyone would think having the Wal-Mart types anywhere near a Republican administration is a mystery. But Trump invited them in. And got burned. More fool he.

The ones making a living at it are entertainers. What game is being played is almost beside the point. Look at summit1g and how many different games he streams.

For example, one of my favorite streamers is very much all about creating a positive community and people having fun. He discussed the other day how he had decided a long time ago he wasn't going to talk politics on stream and now he wasn't even going to make jokes about political figures (he meant Trump) because he wanted everyone to be welcome at his channel. He's all about community and interaction and making it feel like home.

There's another guy who has shot into prominence recently whose whole schtick is insult comedy. Think if Don Rickles played PUBG. It's not necessarily my cuppa, since I hate watching people get embarrassed, but he can be quite fun to watch since it's clearly schtick and there are people who enjoy that. Think about flame threads here. I don't like it because, well, I can be an actual delicate flower, but other people get a kick out of it.

Its like paddling your kid for having them throw a tantrum, and they go berserk, lighting fires and biting people. That's gone beyond naughty or ill behaved to probably pathological.

Right, because the entire Left is terrified of the people realizing or discovering the truth:

- There are about 300 total real Nazis in the entire country.
- They have no power or resources other than stupid tiki torches.
- There are tens of thousands of Antifa/BLM/OWS types.
- They have the power and resources you'd expect for the armed wing of the Democrat Party / Soros / the media / Silicon Valley / corporate America / etc.

I thought it was b/c they hadn't been woke to the dangers. But now they have been woke. And yet I see nothing much has changed. We wouldn't be in this situation if that were not the truth. We call the Left insane? The right is more insane. Our level of stupid is worse. Ours is killing us & our country.

I saw the financial crisis coming. I pegged it as the last 3 months of Bush prez, or the first 3 months of new Prez. I'd been banging on about it for 2 years. Some friends & family finally listened. And btw, Congress & the World Forum had been warned the crisis was coming. They did fvck all to stop it. So it wasn't like I was a visionary.

So yea, as of today, I'm done. I know what's coming. I have the timeframe in my head. I have my plan. It destroys me to watch what is happening, cleaves my heart in two. But every day I see more & more laziness, more & more stupid (from the right). So fvck it.

I'll join the right in our self-righteousness. Do fvck all to change things, and then be smug with everyone else when all the worst things happen.

490 Fen, many people create YouTube videos based on a particular skill that they have. If they're good at knitting, for example, they create videos showing people how to do various stitches. There are also people who just share their life experiences. If you wanted to talk about your son's issues, for example, you might be able to get a following, but of course that one is a much bigger loss of privacy than creating videos showing how to craft or paint or whatever.

But maybe it is used as an A to B, since I remember seeing a lot of people saying the ad on terrorist video claim was Bullshit.

And really I don't think this is a case of to separate issues. I think its a case of using the demonetization of "controversial" stuff as cover to get rid of those pages they hate. Chrisitians, conservatives, people that don't fall in lock step with Google's far leftwing politics.

Some are entertainers, some a valued for demonstrating their skill or knowledge, some for the community they create, some for just looking attractive, or a mix of any or all of the above.

Summit is an example of one of the millionaires, a combination of factors attracts a very large number to him and he earns a very nice living as a result.

Plenty of people are earning a living just by being nice, patient, and creating a warm atmosphere or even the complete opposite. But even a small fraction of Summit's following can be enough to earn say 40k a year.

515 What it tells me is that they know these other forms of media is how we educate ourselves about facts and win elections, so they're trying to completely silence our voices on them.

I get the same feeling; its a coordinated effort to shut down every place that non-leftists have a voice, communicate information, and are able to state truth. The way to combat this is to damage their revenue. Companies exist to make money, they all need it. A few can get by without it, like Huffington Post, but not many. Google and Youtube cannot survive using government subsidies and without paying their workers.

Meanwhile, again, there have to be alternatives that come up. Before the Google "sell information to make money" model came up, nobody did it before. The trick is to find a new way to monetize your service.

Or just roll over and give up. Which is what becoming what you loathe and fight essentially is.

I'll still go home and use my Fire stick to watch Twitch while I'm reading a book on my Kindle while streaming the Indians game on a Fire tablet.
Posted by: alexthechick - a manatee life for me at August 22, 2017 02:26 PM (mf5HN)

I was at Amazon for 3 years, on the Kindle Fire team. I'm still a fan of them. But the working conditions were no joke. That said, they paid really, really well. My friend, I was best friend at his wedding, got a signing bonus there big enough to pay off his house. Yeah, you have to stay 2,3 years but...damn.

It all comes down to which team and manager you end up with. If you have a good 'shield' manager, your time there can be really good. They do work on cool stuff and I like their customer focus.

You get a bad manager, like I had, and it can be pure hell of 60 hour work weeks. Not quite 'trying to make partner' bad but bad enough.

539 It's about _women's_ instinctive nature to marry up.
---

I think this might have a genetic component to it.

Women have children.

They are vested in the survival of those children.

In fact, they are vested in the success of those children.

Over the ages, women have seen that men who are successful can improve the life of their offspring. Better schools, better jobs, better social connections.

So many women, if they wish to have children, look for two things:

1. A successful man who will provide for their children financially
2. A man who will be monogamous.

A non-monogamous man will spread his resources over many children, rather than the children of ONE woman. So it's in the vested interest of the woman, and her children, that the man is dedicated ONLY to her.

As for women who don't want kids? Maybe they just like the benjamins.

I do, and you are indeed correct, it's the exact same thing. Physical attractiveness versus financial stability versus intelligence versus... literally any trait a person has.

I'm not even saying it's wrong; everyone wants to be attractive, and to have an attractive spouse. Everyone wants to be well off; everyone would like to marry into better circumstances than from what they came. I've got no problem with women (or men) wanting to marry up, or men (or women) being excited to marry a flaming hot, super-sexy spouse. I am indeed in agreement, though, that what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

With that said, I'm still hoping my eventual spouse (whomever she might be) will be super flippin' mind-blowing earth-shattering so-far-out-of-my-league-it's-hilarious hot.

"I'll look into disabbling APIs."

Check out the browser add-on uMatrix (Greek mu Matrix) or any of several spin-offs. It's a local proxy that permits/forbids granular permission of every browser resource request. There's a learning curve, but nothing gets in that you don't want to get in, and it's easier/quicker than a firewall.

"Not sure how to set up an ISP mail server. Probably something I could figure out if I wanted to."

Yeah, you'd have to run your own server, either physically in your home with the ISP's bandwidth or remotely via web host independent of ISP. Neither is ideal because being an administrator requires time/work/money. The simpler way would be to check out domain hosting services and see if 1) they have email services on the cheap, or 2) set up a cheap remote host of your own and run an email server on it.

I'd prefer not to have to set up a server, but I will if necessary to protect myself. Sort of a last step affair.

I get that the people who work in the fulfillment/distribution centers may not be the "brain trust", but it wouldn't surprise me if Amazon's cracking the whip on them insanely hard, since they're the types who have no tech skill nor any other marketable skill (in other words : Where else are they going to go?).

Warehouse work is tough. Very, very structured. But most warehouse work is physically demanding, did that once too.

Amazon at least pays well, gives some benefits and educational help.

No problem. Good examples of people in the politicosphere I admire making good content and using Patreon well are Dave Rubin and Sargon of Akkad.

In the funosphere, Cynthia Lin creates free tutorials and sheet music for ukulele, and uses Patreon for her fans to pay for extra exclusive content, like early downloads, song requests, live lessons, etc.

I'd say it goes both ways. Women who will reject a man for being
too poor are outraged when a guy wants a girl who's physically hotter
than they are. He's a sexist pig, they're just being rational and
realistic.

Also on the list; women rejecting men for being too short.

My secretary's youngest daughter absolutely refuses to date boys who are too short, and thinks men under 5'10" as adults are absolutely unacceptable.

I replied in a rather cavalier fashion (I love the kid and am trying to re-aspect her perspective and smooth some of the edges out) that I fully understood her perspective, and I felt the same, I wasn't interested in women who weren't rocking double D's or better.

She blew up rather predictably, saying that it was unfair because girls had no control over that, to which I then replied that there *are* surgeries that can change that - but there's no surgery for spinal extension.

Friggin' love messing with teenagers' ill-thought-out ideas and convictions.

574 Easiest way to eliminate the tech giants' power is to put software in the category it has always belonged in: PATENT, not copyright. FB, YouTube, et al, have been around long enough they would lose their protection. Let a thousand youtubes bloom, various compatibilities, improvements on presentation, light versions that don't require 6GB download speeds, etc.
Destroy their monopoly! Get software back to being an invention, not a novel!

575 110 91. Mr. Dapperton did an experimental video. There MIGHT be an algorithm at work in some cases, but his vid - a still screen of a puppy, bunny, guinea pig, etc, with Dapperton explaining his love and appreciation of these things - was demonetized within minutes. There does seem to be a blacklist.

578 The progressives have distorted the freedom of religion to such an extent that actors far away from the power of Congress working for the state need to guard lest they give an "endorsement of religion". The tests to ensure a "freedom FROM religion" is strenuous.

Libs aren't going to give up our tax money so easily. They want to create lib recruitment centers in public universities--and universities where over 50% of the funds come from the federal government--now acting as the only lender.

They're penurious with due process. And no matter how much "rights of conscience" as a bedrock of American civil liberties, entails a freedom FROM religion and makes it implicit in the free exercise, it is zealously guarded by our courts as a "founding principle"--and yet due process and free speech are NO LESS SO!

Yet, they can strain at the gnat of the "Lemon principle" and swallow the camel of suspending due process and free speech guarantees at institutions that are paid mostly with taxpayer money.

The standard seems to be what they can control themselves with hearing. If they piss their pants too much, well nobody wants to walk around in all that urine so a REASONABLE measure is to not let you say the things that makes the maladjusted psychos piss themselves. We are constantly being asked to be REASONABLE by the unreasoning.

583 @574 There is nothing preventing anyone from coming up to an alternative to these services and in fact many alternatives already exist. Gab.ai is an alt to twitter. Minds.com competes with facebook. There are alt search engines and video hosts. The problem for these companies is getting traction. I think the solution might be forcing these companies to release their data (which is not really their data, it's their users data) to anyone on request. Can you imagine what would happen to facebook, youtube, etc if anyone could start a service that would have all the content of facebook, youtube, etc. It would be great for content providers too (who should be the ones in control of their content).
