I've always found the media very accurate in their reporting, especially when it comes to guns and the number of deaths attributed to them. Even the Governor of Virginia admitted 93 million people die daily in this country due to gun violence.

So if the North Koreans can build 'the bomb' I don't know why some sailer's aboard a boat can't.

63 Thanks for the early news Vic, been a while since I was up this early.

I'll be running up to Wartrace, hook up with a good friend and his wife and then try to get to McMinnville for the totality. The fun part is getting out of there in a reasonable amount of time to get to work. Near as I can estimate it I'm going to miss the 3:30 mark by about an hour, less if 231 isn't packed out like race traffic although I suspect it will be. There's other really back road routes but I want the straight shot down.

Not sure where Trigger is now...The Roy Rogers museum in Apple Valley, CA closed and moved to Branson, MO. Then closed and the assets sold off. Now days where most people see Roy Rogers restaurants, they probably have no idea who or what that was....I used to stop at the original Roy Rogers museum in CA and look at all the memorabilia on display, including the jeep, stuffed dog, etc. that was in the movies.

June 1969 the destroyer USS Frank E. Evans was operating at night in the South China Sea with the Aussie carrier HMAS Melbourne. The Evans was changing her position, and due to a number of errors by the bridge watch crossed in front of the Melbourne. The carrier hit the Evans amidships at the forward fireroom cutting her in half. The forward half sank in about 5 minutes taking 73 crew with it. The after half, due to outstanding damage control, stayed afloat.

An old history buff friend in New Orleans is a FB friend now, and she has been fighting the monument removal in New Orleans. She regularly posts things that seem to include the real accounts from way back. I use "Sherman" generically ... for what was done in burning and murder of citizens.

War is hell ... Trump has made the point that "too bad Jackson wasn't around to fix it without war" or something like that. There are accounts of a lot of freed slaves dying after the war as well, under union control.

Lee and other generals chose to defend their own, but the slave owners or probably Jefferson Davis don't deserve the statues I guess ... but Lincoln fought for the unfair tax revenue, admitted he didn't care about the slaves.
