What they never acknowledge is, there's nothing unique to their situation, it's a universal condition. Blacks don't know what it's like to live as whites. The Asian experience is not shared by blacks or whites. Men and women don't know what it's like to live as the other. The sane don't know what it's like to live life as a schizophrenic and vice versa. For that matter, humans don't know what it's like to live as a dog or a cat or a tree. Siblings don't share identical childhoods, either.
It's irritating to me that black people constantly point to this, that nobody understands them or knows what it's like to be black. It's an impossible demand for special treatment that ignores the fact that every other human being, as individuals and members of groups, lives under the same conditions.

The organizer was an Occupy guy, and Obama voter. He did not suddenly turn into a white supremacist.
Zerohedge asks about a Craig's List ad for volunteers that seemed to fit the "fake protester" description.
And until "off his meds" Fields killed, most of the fights were mostly swing and retreat, or throw something kind of stuff. My FB page had some black guy claiming he saw the antifa and KKK guys getting off the same bus ... who knows, but the goofy shields and sticks did seem over the top on the day of the (stagecraft?) violence. Fields made it real, which made the propaganda shtick into a real propaganda win for the left.
The tiki parade the night before ... maybe they found enough real KKK that thought marching with torches (no pitchforks?) would be a useful warning/threat to our government, but it made them look more like the old KKK murderers.
The whole propaganda response was all too well prepared, including PayPal deciding to close accounts of several "extremist" groups including Vdare.com, which is for immigration control.

VA is a castle-doctrine state, to the best of my understanding, and the courts have construed owned and operated vehicles as "castles".
So if someone is legitimately attacking the driver of a vehicle, and the driver plausibly fears great bodily harm or death, and the driver's vehicle strikes one or more of the attackers while the driver tries to escape, and hurts or kills one or more attackers, that's exculpatory in court.
It's when the vehicle strikes uninvolved third parties in the course of the attempted escape that things get legally and morally complex. They will become even more complex when trying to define "uninvolved".
The antifa were attacking Fields or plainly meant to do so. The people who were hurt or killed were all IWW (Wobblies) or DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) or similar. Not actively performing antifa attacks, but allied to antifa, and at that spot to protest against the same targets as the antifa.

The end of demonstrations turn violent, precisely because once they've turned violent, they're no longer demonstrations. They're "riots".
That is to say, there isn't any "trigger" mechanism for the end of a protest anymore. There is no "OK, that's time, let's all go home and get some sleep, we gotta get up for work tomorrow". There's no victory condition, to say that the message was sent, and the protest was successful.
Their "Victory Condition" has actually become the Violence itself. Orchestrated or spontaneous.

They stretch because they are worn out. Removing a link is a bandaid fix, because the pitch of the chain has changed, and it will be hell on the sprockets. New chain is really quite inexpensive.

Dunno, for some reason, I was feeling this latest national hysteria just didn't have legs. I mean the public demonstration part. The "white supremacists" are tiny in number, and probably fairly intimidated; without the theater opportunity of their demo, the fascist/racist/rabble-rousing bloc will lose focus too. Plus, most importantly, most cities will not make fools of themselves like C'ville, with utterly disastrous lack of normal/proper crowd control.
The other part of the hysteria - the vandalism of American history, the push to make America just another typical savage sad place where actual history is shunned, losers are obliterated from history, and atavistic impulses are fully indulged and given legitimacy - worries me much more.

I actually did a little write-up on this years ago. The key to long chain life is, of course, good lubrication. But, another almost totally overlooked is the relationship between chain length (link or pitch count), front sprocket tooth count, and rear sprocket tooth count.
If *none* of those three are integer multiples of another, than chain/sprocket life is lengthened considerably.

If you want to ride on the highway, and contend with truck traffic, you need a heavy bike. Small bikes get you buffeted around by the air blast from oncoming trucks, and it's white-knuckle time. I have an old Honda CB350, and it's perfectly capable of going 70 MPH, but it's too light to ride it comfortably on the highway, with other traffic about.

It can be pretty hot in Boston in August but there is actually plenty of shade. I used to walk my dog there on the weekends and I walked through the Public Garden and the Common for years on my way to work.

They're great fun, and sound wonderful, but the maintenance schedules are a PITA. Even when you love something and find stupid excuses to go out to the garage to look at it, the maintenance eventually becomes a chore. Especially if you buy a Japanese competitor to keep in your garage at the same time.
It's like the realization you have when you owned MGs and Triumphs before buying a 90s Miata. Wait, you mean I don't need to carry a tool kit with me?

Honda cars definitely do, and have since the early 80s. My wife and I comment on it often when we hear one start up. The newer ones sound just like my '86.

Trump's original comment, made while things were still unfolding, was perfectly appropriate. His comments at Trump Tower the other day were also perfectly appropriate, and matched the mixed, ugly, confused nature of the events themselves.
It's pretty amazing. Trump, who certainly is capable of doing/saying some pretty questionable things (back in the campaign), has been 100% adult and presidential amidst all this national degradation. I never use the phrase "If a Republican did that...", because I'd have to use it everyday. And as Ace says , our Betters have privileges we shouldn't have(tm).
But imagine if Pence's kid had worn a mask and thrown a bomb like Kaine's. Or if Fox had sponsored an Obama Assassination play. They would be off the air. And it's no joke--look at all the dead cops from CNN's War on Cops.

Hewitt knows better, which makes his trimming and shilling less excusable. I still clearly recall the *one* time I heard him lose it, and call out/excoriate a stupid, harmful GOPe stunt.
During the brief lame duck session following the 2010 national political earthquake. Summarized, the House GOP leadership folded, instantly, even though the GOP had the WH and Dems over a barrel due to the arrogance and stupidity of the Dems, who hadn't foreseen their electoral wipeout. Budget stuff.
But instead of pressing their advantage, with the historic political repudiation still rocking their opposition, they just folded. Which also allowed other pernicious things to get passed by the shell-shocked Dems.
Hewitt ranted furiously (and correctly) for most of one show. By the next day - back to "even-handed" (disingenous) blather.
