Wanted woman who wants to conceive child during totality eclipse in OR

I am 40 years of age, caucasian male from Europe. My heritage is strong and pure.

My looks, instincts, knowledge and strength is 100% pure and 100% lethal.

I am looking for a worthy female with strong genes, beauty and smarts.
To join me - to experience the totality eclipse in Oregon.

Exact place not set.

If we have chemistry, I would like for us to make love while the eclipse is happening.

When totality occurs, we will have simultaneous orgasms and we will
conceive a child that will be on the next level of human evolution.

We will make love together, with me and my penis directed towards the sun.

Everything will be aligned in the local universe.

Both of our cosmic orgasmic energy will be aligned with the planets.

In a brief moment of ecstasy, we will understand everything, and together, create a new universe. Full of love...

You must like cats. Drugs are OK. Nitrous Oxide while we climax and experience totality and conception, is OK with me.

47 Evening Horde!

Earlier today I read the Navy's preliminary report on the Fitzgerald.

The ship's company of enlisted sailors shone throughout their ordeal whereas the senior leadership, seemingly, did not. Commander, XO and CMC all relieved yesterday.

Kudos to the Damage Control teams. It's indescribably terrifying to turn to in the dead of night and save your vessel when compartments are flooding in 90 seconds or less and mattresses, bedding and sailors are swirling about - and you have no idea why.

RIP to our lost shipmates.

A comparatively cheap and stealthy drone with long loiter intervals can drop a JDAM.

The A-10 needs to show up occasionally to deal with armor formations, to bolster friendly morale, and to scare the living shit out of anyone who isn't friendly. JDAMs are too quiet left of boom.

By the way, on the "armor formations" front, the Chinese are armoring up at an amazing rate, to include the PLA Marines.

But not to worry! Our much smaller forces will easily overwhelm the primitive Asian hordes with amazing Western technology! ("Western technology" sourced in large part from China itself, and full of backdoors exploits.)

Any war against the US has to be won early, because after 45 days you're dealing with a US that can transition to a full wartime economy, complete with mass mobilization. Either that, or you have to be able to endure for a long time.

A lot of China's buildup seems to be centered around the latter concept. Denying the US Navy the ability to strike at the Chinese mainland, as well as building entire cities that could be populated with workers at a moments notice (what, you thought that they were just bad real-estate investing?). It wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese military had plans to quickly cut new passes through the mountains and into Central Asia as well. Those supply lines would be hard to sever by US air power, especially if Pakistan, Iran, and Russia denied the US access to their airspace.

A few hours pass and my client walks over to me and says 'stop messin' with Barbara'. I told him that my German ancestors actually came over in the '50s. 90 Mike H - According to the report "The damage control posture of the ship was Modified ZEBRA, meaning that all doors inside the ship, and all hatches (openings located on the floor between decks) at the main deck and below were shut in order to help secure the boundaries between different areas of the ship in case of flooding or fire. Watertight scuttles on the hatches (smaller openings that can be opened or closed independently of the hatch) were left open in order to allow easy transit between spaces."

Berthing space 2 was secured in this manner but the collision opened a hole to the sea 13' by 17' into that compartment. There's no saving a space that compromised.

To me, it's a miracle that 27 sailors escaped that space via an open scuttle. It will never be known, but I choose to believe the 7 sailors that did not were already drowned.

well, I ain't gonna read it. It would be too depressing. But I'm curious. Let's say there are 6 R's who are "swing" voters. I'd guess that their states voted for them because they were the shit sandwich served up on the ticket, but they voted *intentionally* for Trump. So - are they going to throw their political careers into the trash bin for no good reason? Are they going to risk the citizens of their states bringing out the pitchforks, rope and tiki torches (not that I would approve of such things *gasp*)? It would be an incredibly stupid move, given that there are even less grounds for impeachment than there were for Clown Nose Blue Dress Jackoff.

I have most of my great grandparents coming from Germany around 1860s or so ... but many claim their lineage is from colonial America.

If it is twelve (they had kids young) ... then that means 4096 great* grandparents? We all have that one or two that were colonial blood, and many that were ... ? something other.

Basically, the article is wish casting, and kind of skirts around the fact that the house has to start the process; the senate completes it.

Interesting thing is that ONE Senator was named: John McCain.

Also... it would seem that a majority of people think that "Mueller" has all the info he needs to hang Trump. I'm guessing for "treason."

RE: the senators who would vote against Trump... I'm pretty sure they will have jobs as lobbyists provided by their liberal friends in the corporate world if they do so. So really, they do NOT care about their careers at this point.

So the mechanics of the article are incorrect, however I have no doubt the Deep State has control over a number of Senators.

And I can't do anything on Ancestry.com because... eastern europe/ 2 world wars, all records lost. My uncle had to trace his roots when he was in law school in the 50's. Got nowhere.

However, that will not stop me from making things up.

But I will not do the DNA thing.

/we all know that's just to get your DNA voluntarily, which they'll use for God Only Knows, and then, when they're done with it, they'll tell your health insurance provider that you have genetic markers for something fatal and expensive and your insurance will go up 5,000% a year. As opposed to the 200% a year increase we have now.

Uh-oh.
I feel an I can't stop my leg thing coming on

Church choir sang but I didn't care
Who wants salvation from sin
I wondered at seventeen
Burned my bridges and I burned my tires
Between those ditches gasoline on fire
Bottle of anger and scotch
Dimestore Hemingway
I thought I looked tough for the girls
But they laughed at me any way

Till I got my hands on an old Telecaster
One night stands half high or half plastered
Paved the road with guilt,, the damage done
I was proof incarnate
Youth gets wasted on the young

And since I've got cymbals to shine tomorrow and a three hour show to do with the guy who wrote those lines...

My experience is admittedly limited to one engagement, so I'm glad to know that they're still being used (hopefully well). But every friggin year, we get to hear how "The A-10 is on the chopping block!!!!", and it makes me furious. I think those F-18 Marine Aviators have more of an affinity for the Marines on the ground than the Air Force-Army dynamic/disconnect that I got to experience.

When I was looking at becoming a TACP, the running joke was "The Army doesn't want them, and the Air Force doesn't know what to do with them!", and I always got the feeling that the same mentality that applied to the TACPs extended to the aircraft they worked best with.

My aforementioned buddy, who was at that time now up into the Brigade level of things, mentioned their TACPs were assigned at the Bde level...and I was like "??? WTF are TACPs going to be doing at the Brigade HQ level...those boys need to be down at the Company or Platoon level!"

CAS and their controller embeds don't seem to be a well-integrated function in the Army/AF dynamic, sounds like maybe they are in the Marines.

When the famine struck, the English landlords took the wheat, barley, and other crops that their tennants grew to pay the rent, and sold it to France and Germany, whose peasants were also dependant on potatoes, and were suffering from the same famine. 4 million lives later, the Irish were then hit with arbitrary Penal laws and other indignities.

They're just afraid of blithering idiots staring at the sun, unprotected for a prolonged period.

The UV light will burn you cornea and other stuff. There's a name for this condition. It can occur with snow reflecting a lot up into your eyes. The UV doesn't penetrate and get inside your eyeball. However, infrared will and that will damage your retina. Intense visible light can do it as well.

IIRC most glass and plastic will block a good bit of the short wavelength UV, but this varies. It will let the UV-A through, though, and that, while not as damaging as the shorter ones, can still cause damage if it's high enough intensity.

Welding hoods usually have lens that completely block the UV and IR.

Arc flashes, even through the clear plastic covers, such as on one of my mine with a flip cover are not as bad because it kills the UV and IR.

Anyway, all this is because they're worried about idiots looking at the Sun for prolonged periods with no protection.

A very close friend of mine was raised in a South Korean orphanage, and she likes to tell that the first time she saw Americans as a very young child, they were US Army soldiers giving out red cross packages.

High school football seems to be massive in only a few states though. Probably popular throughout most but in some it's on another level. Texas is number 1 at that. 401 382 Our local news reported on how proud and excited they are in Katy, TX over the brand new $70 million dollar football stadium they just opened...for the high schools. It's the most expensive high school facility in the country. Honestly, and I say this as a former athlete, this is waste of money.

Posted by: no good deed at August 19, 2017 12:31 AM (r70LM)

That's a lot of moola for high-school football. Here in Canada, high-school (and college, for that matter) football is pretty much watched only by the classmates/friends/families of the players involved. Very, very, low key. Pro football, OTOH, has its fanatical fans just as in the USA.

One of the more obvious cultural differences between Canada and the USA.

Texas H.S. Football is treated as a religion almost. They are rabid about it. IMO, you'd find Texas is an outlier in spending that much money on a football stadium.

402 ok, here's my 2018 Election campaign in a nutshell, let's throw a giant retirement party for Congress, those members who have been hosing us for over twenty years get to retire free with no indictments. Gold watches, roasts, speeches ad nauseum, but you are outta here!

High school football seems to be massive in only a few states though. Probably popular throughout most but in some it's on another level. Texas is number 1 at that. I think Ohio is up there too, we would joke about being able to rob my town blind on years that our football team was good and making it to the state finals.
Posted by: Buzzion

Its huge in Pennsylvania too. My dead, decaying, drug riddled hometown built a brand spanking new stadium for the football team. The population is shrinking (due to graduation classes leaving and never coming back since about 1977 and a heroin epidemic) but they got a new stadium. Not sure how the hell it got paid for. Still, HS football is huge in PA.

405 "...the stadium will feature a dynamic exterior LED system that is
capable of displaying the color of the teams playing on any night."
---
Oh well, that makes it all worth it.

However, can the LEDs be wirelessly controlled? If they're not wireless, they're not cool.

Also, can they run low resolution video content through the LEDs? Do they have someone providing low rez video content to be played throughout the game? Is the low rez video content being played through the LEDs tied into the audio system and audio reactive?

If they can't do any of those things well then WTF is the use of the system?

/I'll take their "dynamic LED system" and raise it with the LED systems I know about.

The best part is that these facilities are typically being financed by exorbitantly costly capital-appreciation bonds. Also known as "financial time bombs". One of Wall Street's latest tricks for dopey elected officials representing mathematically illiterate voters.

So a stadium with a nameplate price tag of $70M may end up costing the local taxpayers five times that much money by the time it's all finally paid off.

Enjoy that sportsball! Go Bottomfeeders!

There are maritime "rules of the road", as there are for vehicles at a four-way stop. Vessels under power are supposed to yield to vessels under sail. But if your vessel under power is a quarter-mile long, and weighs 200000 tons, "yielding" is an exercise in futility.

431 Bear in mind though, that that hideous, overpriced stadium in Katy, does at least serve to support FOUR major* High Schools in the Katy Independent School District.

*major, being Class 5a schools, with 10th, 11th & 12th grade student population at around +3,500. Per. School. Katy is growing at such an insane rate, that a fifth such campus is not an abstract thought, out there.

It's a semi-regional stadium, not simply one belonging to and serving only one school.

In that sense, it's a bit better than those same four schools, each building a stadium of their own.

A "bit" better. Only because each of those four stadiums would've been 80% versions of the one that was built.

The numbers of properties which would've had to have been condemned and Eminent Domained, would've cost far, far more than the mega-stadium, as built.

Plus, (minor) credit where due. It looks like they built it to last. Really.

Let's hope they did, and it does.

I recently finished reading a very interesting book: "The Queen of the North Disaster - the Captain's Story" , written by Colin Henthorne, who is a personal friend. One of his main points is that the new "digital" radars installed on the vessel made it harder, not easier to do the routine tasks required for safe navigation.

Apart from the inefficiency of newscasts (so much time expended to dispense so little info), it tends to be very superficial, inept, and biased. I've found that I'm much happier. If I truly need to know something, I have to look to a source other than the news. Journalists know nothing. In college, even the Art History majors had a more rigorous course of study. Even if they were not biased, most just lack the IQ.

A total solar eclipse occurs about every 18 months, on average. The problem is, most of the Earth's surface is water and so they don't occur over land in good spots quite as much.

The frequency at which they occur at any given place is about once every 400 years, or so, on average, but it is not a nice simple cycle.

And, because the Moon is slowly receding and the Sun slowly increasing in diameter, in 600 million years, there will be no more total eclipses.

Fellow Horde Members and Morons! While the total solar eclipse is indeed a marvel, many of you will be outside the zone of totality. Even if you are in an area where the eclipse is 92% or 98%, PLEASE protect your eyes and your vision. Regular sunglasses are not enough protection to avoid eye damage. You MUST use an approved ISO or NASA approved eye protection. Or you can use at minimum #14 welders glasses. Your vision is a gift. Please don't get careless and destroy that gift. An eclipse is a wonderful thing, but please be smart with your gift of sight. Protect your eyes and enjoy a marvel of the cosmos. If you're blind, you'd have a hard time commenting here.

475 I recently finished reading a very interesting book: "The Queen of the North Disaster - the Captain's Story" , written by Colin Henthorne, who is a personal friend. One of his main points is that the new "digital" radars installed on the vessel made it harder, not easier to do the routine tasks required for safe navigation.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 19, 2017 01:24 AM (2le8w)

Non-tactical, Maritime Surface Navigation, especially concerning commercial traffic within visual range, is an analog calculation, and might be best measured by analog electronics.

I would relate it to the fact that they've not yet taught a digitally controlled robotic device, to be able to hit a Major League Pitch, with even a bit of the reliability of an MLB hitter with a .325 average.

Assessing that 90 mph fastball or 80 mph slider or 70 mph hanging curve....well, it's still an area where the human brain reigns supreme. Not to mention the brain, bone, muscle interface that has to be enacted in less than the blink of an eye.

A camera/FLIR lookout system as I've described, would work.

Especially if coupled to an audible and visual warning alert system, which ONLY the Skipper could disable with code or key. And once disabled, it's his ass in the crosshairs.

If mounted high in an Ageis' superstructure, say, 40' above water for all camera points, I think we're looking at what...at least a 20 mile horizon?

Very well within reaction times, that.

Leave the dot-Mil digital tactical radar systems, to their intended tasks.

I'm describing a system an electronic system only one level above the Mk.1 eyeball, Seaman 1st Class lookout, and less than the Tac systems for CIC.

Common sense, which means Bureau of Ships will reject it out of hand.

484 Talk of ships reminded me of book I read called

Dead Wake
By Erik Larson

I got the shock of my life at the end. Larson doesn't make any conclusions, just prevents the evidence.

I am about 100% sure the Lusitania was 'allowed' to be in waters with the express intention of her being sunk, b/c Winston Churchill thought it would get America into the war.

There's a lot of evidence for it, and there was one thing specifically that was a tipping point for me.

I'd be interested in anyone else's opinion who read it & their conclusion. Esp. If differed from mine. But man, it was a bummer.

Given enough time, the earth would finally get in tidal lock with the Moon, just like the Moon is with earth. It would then be visible from only one hemisphere, and the solar day would be a month long.

However, the Sun will go red giant before then by a long shot.

About 600 million years in the past, the day was about 22 hours long, and there were around 400 days per year.

The solar system is chaotic enough over billion year timescales that there is non-zero probability of something crazy happening, such as an inner planet being ejected. Or a collision. For example, Mars' eccentricity may increase enough to put in an Earth crossing orbit.

Other crazy things are possible.

There was an horrific loss of life on that sinking. Most criminal, in my opinion, was putting war material on a commercial vessel thinking that it may have avoided attack.

It was actually the log of the German sub commander that was my tipping point. The evidence is pretty overpowering when you read all that Larson uncovered. Stuff we didn't have prior. I didn't want to believe it was true, but the German guy's log records state's he doesn't understand why the L was there, as he had just sunk a ship prior days.

Also, we now know all the other ships were warned away and had escorts. Anyway, Larsen is a respected author & does thorough research. If you read, would love your take on the evidence.

Sol's habitable zone will pushed out to Mars by 1.5 billion years.

Earth will be Venus like. In 2-3 Billion years the surface temp will get to 300F. It will be Venus after that. At the 4 billion year or so mark, the surface temperature will be that of molten rock. In about 7.5 billion, the Earth will likely fall into the Sun.

In 8 billion, the sun goes white dwarf, and that's all she wrote for this solar system.

But again, the solar system is chaotic enough over those time scales that it is impossible to predict the orbits. The inner planets could collide or be ejected by that time.

My dog is a Basset X Border Collie. She has a good nose on her, too. And a determination to chase rabbits. Monday, she was running around the yard in tight circles, and barking. Turned out she was chasing a tiny weasel. Every so often, the weasel would rear up on it's tiny haunches, and make Grrry! fists at Pogo, and she would back off, and the chase would be on again. It was funny as hell to watch. Finally, the weasel got away into a thicket of bushes.

There's an idea of an astroengineering project in the far future to keep Earth in Sol's habitable zone. Make repeated passes of asteroids by the earth to slowly perturb the orbit and drive it outward, keeping up with the increasing luminosity of the Sun.

Now, you've got Mars in the way out there, so you'd have to do something about that too.

Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at August 19, 2017 02:52 AM (8O3HH)

532 524

534 I dunno personally. Earth could wind up being as extreme as Venus due to the amount of water vapor and methane available in our ecosystems.

We can't really predict what the two planets will look like in hundreds of millions of years. I guess I was thinking nearer term, say the next 20-200 years.

The radiation levels, the thin CO2 atmosphere and relative lack of water make the prospect of a self-sustaining Mars settlement far-fetched at best, impossible at worst.

I seem to remember a scheme to terraform Mars by bombarding it with chunks of ice stolen from comets or from the rings of Saturn. Settlers would live underground, of course, to avoid both cold and the radiation from the sun. But with enough atmosphere, as water vapor plus CO2, photosynthesis would get going, and make a breathable atmosphere, eventually.

538 >> Haven't they identified a bunch of nasty areas in the galaxy that our solar system is going to be traveling through too that could just shred and destroy us?

-------------------

That's another thing. It's a big unknown. At one time, they thought that had a correlation with the Solar Systems movement around the galaxy with some extinction events, but that disappeared with better data on the motion.

That motion is more complicated than a simple ellipse because of the non-spherical (inverse square) galactic gravitational field.

The Sun goes around the center about every 250 million years, but also bobs up and down along the z-axis. I think we cross the plane every 30 million years or so. And now, I think we're on an upswing.

There's also movement in and out of the spiral arms, which varies the interstellar "dust" content. They may have something to do with climate as well.

Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at August 19, 2017 03:07 AM (8O3HH)

539 the idea of terraforming mars is preposterous. it's geologically dead without any protection from the solar wind. and to what end? as a refuge from an ecologically doomed earth? the cost of terraforming would be far in excess of any comparable efforts to change earth's atmosphere.

My dog was very happy just wandering around smelling the roses, so to speak. But chase anything? She was not play oriented so unless you tossed a bone to 'fetch' (as in, 'it's mine now, suckah'), she wouldn't chase anything. I could throw no ball or toy that she would chase and fetch; she'd just sit and stare at me with a look that said, 'You threw it, fool. YOU go get it. In the meantime, I'll be over here on my back rolling in the grass.'

They have Gobekli Tepi back to as far as 10,000 BC. But that gets close to the end of the ice age, which would have radically changed coastlines and rivers, which is where settlements were likely to be. So who knows?

Posted by: Bilwis, Devourer of Gluten Free Souls at August 19, 2017 03:38 AM (tMFgx)

549 "would have changed coastlines..."

an excellent point. the toba supervolcano is linked to a genetic bottleneck in humans around 75,000 years ago. so that's the window, 75,000 to 12,000 years ago or so. my guess is 10,000 is probably the outward limit.

Posted by: musical jolly chimp at August 19, 2017 03:48 AM (AxFdW)

550 One objection about terraforming Mars is that the planet's gravity is too weak to hold onto the artificially created atmosphere. It might only last 10,000 years or so before dissipating into space.

But...

10,000 years ago humans were hunting animals with spears. Today we're seriously talking about terraforming planets. What will we be capable of doing 10,000 years from now?

The point being, Mars is not a permanent home for humanity but just a temporary way station. We could use raw materials from asteroids and comets with spiderlike robots building artificial habitats all over the inner solar system. There may be breakthroughs in propulsion that could enable us to explore and colonize planets around nearby stars.

I do consider myself fortunate to have lived during the period when humanity took its first tentative steps into the cosmos.

Australian aborigines have lived, almost unchanged, for upwards of 40,000 years.

Now, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement ... but it is human culture, though a very limited, stagnant one. It might not come in under your "settlement" definition, also.

557 Alright, here I'll say it. I'm drunk enough to not care, but I'll probably regret posting this tomorrow.

Anyone who read the ONT last night knows that my father in law is dying by inches from liver cancer. This has been, as you can imagine, a huge burden on my family. Gingy is holding it together for herself by the skin of her teeth. I'm holding everything else together.

I saw him last night, on facetime. We talked, bantered, just as we always do. He's 75, has worked every day of his life since he was 14. Did a stretch in the RCAF as a loadmaster. He can still pack a car better than I can, and I'm no slouch, damnit. He had JUST retired when he was diagnosed. Literally almost on the same day. Worst. Retirement. Ever.

Dad (and yes, I call him dad, he's earned the title alongside my father, if for no reason other than that he delivered to me the beautiful, perfect woman who is my wife), is skinny as a rail and getting skinnier. He's not in any pain, thank God, but it's the last lap and we all know it.

So what do I do? As I said, I hold it all together. But damn it, I like him. I love him. Not in the same way I love my dad (and if you think this is maudlin, wait until my actual dad dies, I'll be wrecked. Completely and utterly wrecked.), but it's still the same.

I'm sitting here, strong, together, because that's what a man does. It's what I have to do.

But dear God, he's going to die. And that will leave a huge hole in my life. I'm going to miss him, a lot more than I would have thought.

*Cries*

Lost my Mom 6 years ago almost the day to Cancer. It sounds like you are doing it. The feelings of helplessness are tough. This may sound a bit harsh, but remember you are third in line for consideration here. Your FIL, then your wife, then you. Let them tell you what they want and need.

Spend time when and where you can, as much as possible. Enjoy the simple stuff. Ask all the questions you can about family history. At some point, you'll need to make arrangements as they say, so you'll need to be ready and know what his wishes are. It fell on me to go with my Dad to pick out an Urn for Mom. It was so hard and surreal, but she needed to know that it was done, and it wouldn't fall onto my Dad alone.

At some point you all will accept the inevitable. It isn't easy. I had to turn away from people walking by me at work at random times to hide the tears, but it wasn't about me, so you drag yourself forward. The disease itself was terrible in what she went through and what it did to her. But we were blessed in that we were able to have all those conversations rather than regret never having taken the time.

You are headed into some rough times. Allow yourself some slack. You aren't perfect, you can't do this perfectly, but you will get through it. To say, "enjoy the time you have," sounds trite, but it really is what you need to do.

Well, again, it sounds like you are doing what you need to do. It's not a problem to be solved, because you can't. The best you can do is keep yourself together so you can help them. If that means coming here to vent, let it fly. If that means breaking down for a good old fashioned ball your eyes out cry when no one is looking, let it out.

The frustration and helplessness are tough to deal with. But remember there isn't something to be achieved here. You already know what to do, it's how you do it, and you do it with all the patience, love and grace you can muster.
