Bannon Planning "#War" with "Democrat White House"?
I've heard that, strangely enough, Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon were allies a lot of the time (and, I guess, enemies some of the time). If you're wondering who Bannon and Priebus could possibly have in common as rivals of sufficient enough stature to cause them to team up -- well, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump and their various Democrat allies in the White House. I've heard that Scaramucci's hiring was arranged by Jared and Ivanka specifically to get Spicer, Pirebus, and Bannon fired (and serve as an ally and promoter of Kushner and Ivanka). Well, Scaramucci didn't last long, but Spicer, Priebus, and Bannon are now in fact gone. I think this might explain the rumblings about the "Democrat White House" -- allies of Bannon seem to think that Jared and Ivanka have now cleared most rivals and now are more firmly in control, and will be advising Trump in a Democrat/progressive direction. Of course, this also coincides with John Kelly's appointment as Chief of Staff. This might have been his call, too. There are a lot of feuding factions, it seems, in the Trump White House, and maybe he just decided to eject someone on one side of it. Maybe out of ideological opposition to Bannon, maybe just to choose one side to win so that there'd be an end to the warring. Oh: I should mention that Bannon's recent interview with the American Prospect might have been the final straw, but that seems more likely to be the act of a man who already knew he was being pushed out. So I don't see that as a causal.Comments

After Trump dissolved his CEO councils, which would be a natural ally of any Jared faction, it is entirely reasonable to say that the #1 strategic nationalist in the White House is Donald Trump himself. He succeeded in keeping his white base, now let him try to expand without insisting that it's all some sop to progressives. One thing I have noticed about Trump: he tends to love issues that make him popular with his base, especially when it alarms and disgusts the (small but rich) globalist faction. So I trust him: categorically.
The second thing is that Trump has a legendary knack for engendering loyalty in his employees. Bannon will stay loyal and so will Jared. Looking for a palace coup/ Breitbart revolt is a fool's errand.

And in this case, it's pretty clear we have a president who does not need "advisors" to tell him what to think, or what's important, or what got him elected. Perhaps more so than any recent president.
Trump got - miraculously - elected despite the full insane fury of a united popular culture, media, even of his own nominal political party, up to point - because of issues. Basic issues. Concrete ones, that can't be concealed or "spun" by PR.
I continue to think he'll prosper, or not, almost entirely based on results, on those issues.

Unless something has changed since I stopped listening to him for a decade or so over a decade ago, Rush isn't going to take an actual position on jack, though. He's going to say some vague stuff that resonates with conservationism, and then he's going to tell you he was right every time something is close to what he said. Then he's going to do those scripted ads in the middle of it all.
He's not going to do anything position-wise to threaten those paychecks, though. Not that I blame him.

I think people have been trained to this ridiculous style of analysis by Game of Thrones and other political dramas. Nonsense. This is not a feudal system. No executive officer has independent power. They are all ultimately beholden to the president. He does not have to weigh and balance cliques and factions and alliances among his underlings because, even if they exist, they are irrelevant. He makes policy, and he has authority over all the deputies.
This is what, the fourth such 'shakeup?' Fifth? And every single time people proclaim that it marks some sudden seachange in policy and that "such and such" are now running the show. But it never seems to pan out that way.
Another fact that has conditioned people to misunderstand this. They're used to no one in politics losing their jobs for anything except the most horrific scandals. Spying on Americans? Persecuting the Tea Party? Poisoning an entire river when you're the head of the fucking EPA? Letting veterans die to feather your own nest? Letting a compound full of children burn to death because you have a hard on for raiding things? Delivering guns to drug cartels?
Not enough for people who matter to be fired.
And so when people who matter actually are fired, there's an assumption that it must be because of something terrible. That is a wrong assumption.

He's a little spergy, so he has always seemed to me to be fascinated by the political *system*. It's a giant machine of warm bodies that is supposed to function a certain way, and he is (potentially) the World's Greatest Mechanic. The two great conservative policy victories of the modern age are gun rights and anti-abortion; because they never gave up. They accepted incremental victories and pushed for more because they believe in their cause so deeply that the occasional setback or odd bedfellow or impolitic statement did not deter them.
But here I see people declaring that Ted fucking Cruz is part of the "DC Swamp" because he didn't say something how they'd prefer in a fucking Tweet that was likely written by a staffer.
That is fucking retarded, and if that's how you pursue politics then you *deserve* to lose.

I know there are nerd reasons why it's important that Jon Snow is really a hereditary king and not Ned Stark's bastard, but those are dumb reasons. He's a legitimate king in his own right.

I don't have a big problem with Cruz's statement, but:
1. It bothers me that he's assuming the guy rammed the crowd in order to run people down, as opposed to trying to break free of a mob. I don't think that's clear from the videos we've seen. It's irresponsible for public figures to pronounce his guilt at this point.
2. I would have liked to see some acknowledgement of the fact that there were *two* groups of semi-armed assholes in Charlottesville. Cruz isn't as bad as Romney/Rubio on this, but it would have been nice to see him agree with Trump that both sides *in Charlottesville* deserve blame. Calling out the Dallas sniper was easier, and not as helpful. (And I don't think that he blamed BLM or any other group for that.)

I firmly disagree with this analysis. The Dems have been busy purging the center for the last 20 years. Blue Dogs are allowed to exist only if they don't step too far out of line, if they do they face the wrath of the fringe and are quickly removed in the next primary. Contrast this with the Tea Party which tried to introduce some principled conservatives and was defeated by the centrists. The left will spend large amounts of money on very liberal candidates in conservative areas of the country, the right spends its money against conservative primary challenges in those same areas.
McCain, the Maine sisters, Murkowski, Graham, et al have been consistently rewarded after betraying their party on crucial votes. The GOP has been firmly interested in protecting it's most liberal members and is lacking a sound ideological base from which to advocate from as a result. Because the primary challenges from the right went down in flames the GOP can accomplish nothing even holding all branches of the gov. Too many of "our" reps agree with the other side and not us and were just using the label most convenient to get themselves elected.
The victories in gun rights you speak of are coming almost entirely from the courts, there's been very little done by the other branches recently. As for abortion, we managed a bill banning infanticide 15 years ago, but abortion has just gotten more common and socially accepted than ever. I don't know how that can be considered a victory in any sense of the word.
The current inability to get a nominal R Congress to advance a conservative agenda is entirely a result of not pruning out the "broad ideological allies" who refuse to ever agree on specific points.

I don't remember which mainstream (i.e. liberal) news outlet I read this in, but for what it's worth 'credible sources close to Bannon' said he (Bannon) had approached Trump on several occasions asking that he accept his resignation. And Trump always refused. (Until now of course.)
Whichever was the prominent news organization, its reporting a) didn't have in any way the air of 'hit-piece'; and b) came across as generally credible.
That doesn't mean it was accurate.
But if was true that Bannon had been thinking for some time that the Trump presidency would be better served if he moved on, that _might_ have been because Bannon believed that he remained to juicy a media-target constantly primed as a never-ending well for demonizing the administration.
I of course _want_ to believe something along those lines. (Rather than liberal family members in the White House finally managed to push Bannon out.)
No way of currently knowing what the true inside dynamic is.
