39 Trump is great on the shows - he stands up for unpopular positions that drive the media crazy. On actual policy, he's useless. Firing Bannon is just more evidence that Trump will listen to Ryan, Cohn, Jared and Ivanka and not the people who got him elected. If US is still in Afghanistan six months from now you know the Trump presidency is over.

Serious question. What kind of responsibility/duty does the administration have to keep the public informed about personnel? (I am excluding spies, agents, and other issues of national security and such, though yes, there are gray areas.)

Big splashy announcements (for both some hires and some departures), sure. But everysinglef'ingbody?

Also, the media have not been covering themselves with glory (or even competence) on any of this, so it's hard to know what to believe.

Yeah, really...

I don't see why we should get our panties in a twist about this. Successful business organizations see advisers come and go regularly - part of the creative destruction and adaptability that makes things work more efficiently in the long run.

It's only in politics that we've come to this crazy belief that once someone has power/influence, it is the normal state of affairs that they keep it forever and something has gone badly wrong if they don't.

That's part of the reason we have such a gravy train/lack of accountability clusterfark these day.

Posted by: Blue Hen

Agreed

The people who voted for Trump don't need to protest in the street. They already won the election.

Protesting in th streets is all about attempting to project a false impression that your group is bigger than it actually is.

It is utterly ridiculous and counter-productive to do this if you are the winner of the most recent election and are the party in power.

Observers unconsciously already know that protests are deceptive street theater to fabricate the impressive of popularity, so when they see Trump supporters out protesting, the public thinks, "Gee, maybe there aren't so many actual Trump supporters after all, if the have to resort to this pathetic old gambit."

STREET PROTEST ALWAYS BACKFIRE.

The only "positive" purpose that a protest could serve is to create a martyr-victim: if someone on the right is willing to "take one fort he team" and literally get killed by Antifa, than that (and only that) would bring support for our side via discrediting Antifa.

So: Anyone willing to sign up to be the martyr?

Didn't think so.

Hence: Protesting is a bad idea.

He's drawn a lot of lightning, and so he tells Trump "I can do more for your agenda from the outside at this point." And if Trump has loyalty, he replied that "We will still talk, you have my number and I have yours."

Remember?.. The guy who called out the corrupt media.

All the right people hate Bannon... It's the best reason to keep him around.

280 This is normal churn folks. Political strategists are like a fifth wheel in the WH. One of the former ways that Presidents used was to appoint them as Postmaster general where much of the work was patronage and routine but they were in the cabinet.

The careerists dislike and distrust them as strategists usually have a lot of media contacts and IOU's from the President to fight back with.

Strategists rarely are good policy analysts nor managers though because an advocacy role is not the same as analysis or day to day management. Their most valuable role is a sounding board and I'm sure that will continue albeit on the lowdown plausible deniability road.

Strategists also feel caged in the WH as to what they do and say and who they meet with etc.

Bannon and Levandowski are more valuable outside the WH than in.

But, I also have a good memory--go back to the early Reagan administration--e.g. Let Reagan be Reagan--which of the Troika was a traitor, and all of that stuff. we are now in the situation where disagreement on civil war memorials makes one a Nazi, where left-handed violence by masked rock throwing PeeBaggers is GOOD and MORAL violence, just like the Normandy landings, and the loyalty oath of the day on demand is never enough.

All news is social media virtue-signaling, and while republicans/conservatives/anyone not-"progressive"-thus-doubleplusungood are busy denying their nazihood over the civil war, WW II is being rewritten, with antifa the moral inheritors of the allies against the axis.

How many WW II vets die every day? in ten years, communists will control past and future in a perpetual present.

Trump seems to reward success and punish failure as it should be. His Foreign policy team addressed a crisis in N. Korea without causing hostilities. His NAFTA negotiating team seems to be holding its own. The rest remains to be seen.

528 Meanwhile, back in the world that matters, this fall will be when real things happen/don't happen.

Reports that Trump will endorse a challenger to the ridiculous Sen. Flake from AZ at his Phoenix rally tomorrow. If true, very interesting, and important ..... IF it the first of many direct interventions to re-shape the elected GOP.

And we'll see just how bad things are - and more importantly, just how determined the WH is to do important things - with appropriations.

Stunning, negative news is that, in 2017, the GOP *still* wants to keep politics out of politics, by avoiding big votes on appropriations, by ..... rolling everything into "omnibus continuing resolutions". Note that CRs of this sort are, in effect, the opposite of the line-item veto (disallowed by the courts) - it takes most political power away from the president. It's either "govt. shutdown!!!", or ..... rubber stamp whatever disastrous crap Congress dumps on you.

Still can't believe Trump hasn't publicly stated that he will not sign *any* CRs, beyond truly short-term expedients. And NO "omnibus" CRs, under any circumstances.

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree, then!

Keep in mind that I have posed as an Antifa member multiple times, gone to protests as one of them, spoken with dozens of them over the years, and seen how they work from the inside, dating back to 2004 -- long before this latest outbreak -- and as recently as February of this year at the Milo protest in Berkeley. I probably know more about Antifa than anyone who is not actually a real Antifa member. Believe me, none of the street-fighters are getting paid one cent.

Could there be some charlatan posing as some high mucky-much leader of Antifa, conning $$$ out of Soros? Maybe. But whoever he may be, he's not the actual "leader" of Antifa, because there is no leader.

The "membership" comes and goes; some "age-out" and get too old for that kind of violent nonsense -- while new teenagers enter the fold to take their place. It's closer to a cult that to a political organization: Kids get indoctrinated, and volunteer themselves to be cannon fodder for the revolution.

561 Oh yes, the appropriations situation is both the most outrageous, and concrete, example of the near-uselessness of the GOP.

But it is impossible to believe, for me, that Trump does not understand that chances of implementing his most important policies depend, perhaps entirely, on there being appropriations bills, votes, fights, positions taken, incumbents primaried or defeated.

And the failure to restore normal order (the way that Congress always has gone about starting, marking up, committee-voting, then floor approving individual appropriations bills) is a disaster that no excuses or rationalizations can cover.

Gotta assume the legislation shop at the WH understands all of this, so Trump understands all of this.

Past presidents have occasionally (usually lamely) campaigned against a "do-nothing Congress". This is the real thing, but it's not "do-nothing", it's a Congress under total control of the "ruling" WH party.

As amazing and mostly effective as Trump's seriousness and aggression have been on some things to date, this will be far more important, and probably far nastier.

O.K. Chelsea Clinton's latest stupid tweet The story of Lucifer-who rebelled against God-is part of many Christians' traditions. I've never been in a church with a Lucifer statue.

So now we're comparing the Antebellum South with satanism?

582 Most families are not going to put up with their child rioting on their money.

What do "most families" have to do with this? It is a small minority, but they are motivated.

You clearly don't have experience with these kinds of people.

Yes, and apparently Gen. Lee = Lucifer.
Gawd, Chelsea is an idiot.

584 In fairness, Chelsea Hubble hasn't spent much time in church.

A small minority does not account for the crowds seen in C-ville.

Only a small minority was _violent_. There were tons of snowflakes and paid protesters there as well.

589 Hmmmm....Bannon is the one who believes America needs a new party since all we have is a Uniparty.

If he can create that, that'd be powereful.

B/c the current Uniparty is not gonna work with this president. They are just buying time until things return to normal.

They fund the groups that organize the crowds

591 I did not like Trump in the primary. Ok, I hated him. Cruz was my guy because i never believed Trump was a conservative. I guess we are finding out that he isn't since he has surrounded himself with leftists.

The tear at Breitbart right now are delicious.

592 "Yes, it's Communist, and it's not just in America. There have been Antifa riots in Europe, too. "

Antifa's origins are European. The Euro version dates from the '70's, the days of the Baader-Meinoff gang. I don't know when or how they crossed the Atlantic.

It's possible that it's rather loosely structured; but I think they're probably not just relying on the deep pockets of trust fund kids to create havoc.

596 time before PDT breaks with the GOP
completely and starts his own party. The GOP stands for nothing except
protecting its incumbents' flim flam jobs. I suggest the name "The Great
America Party".

599 In 8 years of Obama's run-amok presidency, no one ever got fired or forced to resign. We couldn't get rid of any of them; Valerie Jarrett, Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Loretta Lynch, etc., none ever had to face the music. It seems set in stone at this point, only Republicans ever accept responsibility for anything.
