34 I think OM has used a few Hockney paintings for the Chess Thread. What I find interesting is that he uses contemporary dress -- like most of the 'Old Masters' and has an interesting way with faces.

Perspective on this one seems just a little off, but interesting setting.

59 grammie, I saw your comment about being conflicted about the guys kneeling in prayer during the anthem (if that's really what they were doing).

Now of course you know I have no problem with teams praying before a game, and as others said, it's really about the timing.

Think of it this way: kneeling in prayer during the national anthem is like starting to sing the anthem while everyone else is praying. Both are noble things, but let's not have them going on concurrently.

And of course, I haven't read the story and I assume they were covering for the Kaeperniks on the team and if I'm wrong, hey, it's the Moron way!

Demographics, for one. Where do most MDs live and practice? That will tell you their political orientation. So most see some form of socialised medicine as inevitable, and in fact you already had it before Obamacare came along. Obamacare itself is a clusterfuck, but now its a matter of what will replace it, and aside from political orientation, you really do not want to piss the wrong institutions (financial, governmental) off. So most stay relatively quiet. Plus most MDs don't like mixing it up in electoral politics: it has been the career graveyard of many practices. There are exceptions, but they aren't that common.

I haven't done much primary care for a while, but I cn't say I'm keen on the questionnaire approach. I will say that Paediatricians are trained to be a bit nosy. I understand the objection, but honestly, you would be surprised at how often people say jaw dropping shit when you ask them simple questions like that. They're so gung ho for what they call anarcho communism (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), well let them demonstrate to the rest of us just how well that all works.

Those (mostly) dudes from mom's basement can divvy up the work; some can plow and plant; some can work on construction and some can walk around with their iPhones brought in from the bourgeoisie land of mom and pop and walk around and try to get a wifi signal.

Hell, make it a reality show. It would get the highest ratings ever. BUT, no cheating, no food brought in except for a 1 yr starter pack. Let's see how long the 'share the world and beat up perceived fascists' philosophy works.

Certainly we need better Senators than Collins, but that isn't exactly what she said. She was asked whether she would support Trump's re-election, she answered she did not in 2016 which was a difficult decision for her, and that she would have to see about 2020. I take that as a net positive as she did not support him in 2016 so either she is actually thinking about maybe possibly supporting him in 2020 or she needs to assure her voters that she hasn't categorically ruled it out.

Then the newsie pressed her on whether he would be the nominee and she said we don't know yet. Which, we don't actually know yet. But of course a good partisan would say yes I fully expect that blah blah blah, but this is Susan Collins.

Mitt sure seems to hate the Middle Class and America culture in general.

Hopefully, he'll stroke out soon and zoom off to His Very Own Mormon Planet.

Once I die and wind up in Catholic Heaven (fingers crossed!!!), I'll peak in on him from time to time to see how he's doing.

233 I drove 1,300 miles round trip yesterday through the heart of America to see the eclipse.

There will be no widespread civil war no matter how far America falls--it's just too big, too open, there is too much "out here."

The headlines are solely a function of the fact that the news entities are concentrated in the large cities.

And their reporting serves one purpose and one purpose only--they want you to clean up their shit.

Baby shit his diaper, but it's not your child--it's theirs.

They can't even muster the manpower to maintain what they already have--they need you.

Now they're calling anyone who doesn't want to clean the shit off of their baby a racist.
And the GOPe is running to the ready with a handful of wet-wipes.

The first stage of Irish Democracy is, "that's not my fucking problem anymore--that's yours."

You don't vote for Trump if you still think racism/sexism/bigotry is the biggest problem America needs to focus on.

As I've said, the Dem/Media/GOPe/Deep State Alliance is winning the media war right now--but they are hemorrhaging massive amounts of lifeblood everywhere else:
Voters--the people.

As the military is fond of saying, "The enemy gets a vote too."

And when you're outnumbered a thousand, ten thousand, a million to 1--you ought to carefully consider who you label your enemy.

This guy is great a business but a total failure at explaining what is going on. Originally, he said on CNBC that "if you're OK with what Trump said, don't shop in my businesses".

After realizing what an incredible fuck up that was, alienating every RV and camping customer in the country, he tried to backpedal with the "if you're ok with hate and violence, don't shop in my businesses".

That didn't work too well either, because he's still trying to explain it.

For some reason, he's stuck on lumping "hate" in with free speech. He says he's all for free speech but that "hate speech" is just wrong.

So does that mean he's ok with giving the antifa the green light to pound people who say things that liberals don't like?

You can't be for free speech unless you're willing to defend the worst kind of speech.

Marcus is trying to straddle the fence with this "I'm against violence and hate speech" shit, so he's going to lose a lot of support and customers.

I checked out the Facebook and Twitter pages for the Marcus Lemonis remarks about Charlottesville.

This guy is great a business but a total failure at explaining what
is going on. Originally, he said on CNBC that "if you're OK with what
Trump said, don't shop in my businesses".

After realizing what an incredible fuck up that was, alienating
every RV and camping customer in the country, he tried to backpedal with
the "if you're ok with hate and violence, don't shop in my businesses".

Marcus is trying to straddle the fence with this "I'm against
violence and hate speech" shit, so he's going to lose a lot of support
and customers.

Occasionally the dogs (now numbering 2) will utilize the grass but seem to find other surfaces (beds, patio,,,and etc.) work quite well for their purposes. Work better than my dog training system did. Don't worry about dogs; they'll adapt.

Either:

A) They actually do a good job, being not bogged down by the standard foibles of careerist politicians, or

So many of our problems as a country and a culture stem from this pervasive idea that if we just elect the right person, all our problems will magically go away. Instead of, you know, solving our own problems as citizens.

It's not a new idea. It's the same old MO of humanity, except in the U.S. we get to pick the guys ourselves, rather than having the glorious leader on whom we pin all our hopes selected for us by murder, victory in warfare, or inheritance.

369 For some reason, everything about this painting induces nausea in me. Not that they're obviously homosexual, that doesn't bother me one bit. It's almost touching that you can tell that Crockett there is all packed up and ready to leave the guy in the pool, 'cause he's just done putting up with his bullshit.

It's the painting itself that creeps me out. Weird, unnatural color palette. Sterile cookie-cutter landscape in the background. Bizarre anatomy of the swimmer (looks like the artist botched the foreshortening of his legs, intentionally or otherwise).
It looks like the swimmer is in his underwear, not a swimsuit. And also Crockett's anatomy, whose head is wayyyy too big for proportion. The ominous stark shadow jutting away from Crockett, even though the rest of the scene is lit as though it were closer to noon....

I dunno. FWIW, it's a creepy, uncomfortable painting to me.

Police Find Rocket Launcher and Other Weapons in French No-Go Zone Suburb

http://tinyurl.com/yaktpqq7

French police discovered a cache of weapons over the weekend, including a bazooka, in the no-go Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis only a day after young men had robbed officers of their weapons in the same suburb.
The police say they found an American-made anti-tank bazooka along with several other weapons, a large quantity drugs, and police equipment in a bike shed in the troubled suburb. The raid is likely connected to organised crime in the area as the information leading to the operation came from the Central Organisation for the Fight Against Organised Crime ( OCLCO ), L'Express reports.

Police were able to track down two men, one of which admitted to owning the weapons. Police say in addition to the anti-tank weapon, they seized high power explosives, 12-gauge shells and 9mm ammunition, two sawn-off shotguns, and police equipment which authorities believe would be used to sow confusion or allow suspects to escape police detection.

A local police officer said he believed the bazooka was likely to be used in an attack against an armoured car.

429 s for either the MG42 or MG34, skip them both. Go with their modern descendant the MG3 which is chambered for 7.62NATO.

444 The Panzerkampfwagen (armored fighting vehicle) Mk IV -- the Panzer 4, was eclipsed by the Panzer Panther (the Mk V) in 1943, though with a few more upgrades, the 4 was a serviceable tank until the end of the war. Had the Panther been around for the beginning of Barbarossa, things could've gone very differently....

I am reminded of Jacques Littlefield's take on the Panther - it was in many respects a great design (as the Sherman was not) but was not built to be maintainable in the field (as at least the Ford-powered Sherman was).

Further, a number of the later manufacturing shortcuts didn't help matters.

I remember recently seeing a compilation of the bloodiest "events" in human history, in terms of people lost vs. estimated world population at the time. Most were Mongol and Chinese genocides. Don't even think WWI or WWII cracked the top five.

Well isn't that special. Now how on earth did that get there? I think there were several Obama cluster f*cks in places like Yemen, Libya, etc. in which we simply abandoned large quantities of weapons. I assume this can be traced. It would be interesting to see if it came from one of those places.

Lemonis has become a full blossomed SJW in the past few years. He was adopted out of an orphanage in Lebanon by American parents of Greek heritage. His father owned a large Chevrolet delearship in Florida and the family is solidly Republican.

Like many kids who are adopted, Lemonis, IMO, has some issues. He decided as young adult to run for office in Florida as a ...Democrat.
He lost.
He also was fired from working at the dealership at one point by his father. He says it was because of his political leanings, I believe it was because he was a young know it all asshole.

Anyway, he got into the RV business after college(graduated from Marquette in Wisconsin), and ended up buying up dealerships and putting together what is now Camping World.

His mother died a couple of years ago and that's when he decided to tell the world he had been sexually abused by a family member for years as a child, he didn't want his mother to know.

Aren't all celebrities sexual abuse victims at some point?

He stompy footed during Trump's election about how Trump was a racist Mexicanphobe because of the border wall.

It lost him business and fans , but not to the point where his business couldn't recover.

Now he's back to screaming once again about Trump because he believes Trump is a racist Neo Nazi for not ordering all the White Supremists in Charlottesville to be arrested and executed.

And he has the hypocricy to state his words were taken out of context?

Re: Mark Martin...Camping World sponsors the Truck series in Nascar and they support a few teams. I'm sure Mark got a call from Nascar to back off of Lemonis.

Nascar's France family and administration is about as bright as the NFL, so I am rather confident Martin got his chain pulled.

It's true that the Panther was rushed to the field in time for the massive Kursk debacle in July, 1943. The Panther was the next-gen medium battle tank (the Tiger, the next-gen heavy tank, was out in 1942, but it was slow and a gas-guzzler; still, you did not want to deal with Tigers). It was over-engineered, and complex to build and maintain, but when properly built and maintained, it was a thing of beauty and could do real damage. A panzer division with a battalion each of Tigers and Panthers, along with the souped-up IV, could really kick the Soviets hard. Problem was, there weren't enough of them.

470 I think it is hilarious that the NAACP is boycotting the NFL. I read it as an attempt to claim that the current drop in interest the NFBML is due to the "harsh" treatment of Kaepernick, rather than the actual fence sitting stance the NFL is trying to maintain. Also an attempt to claim their boycott is the powerful action accounting for all the lost revenue and viewership.
