I agree -- she shouldn't have died regardless of the situation. But at the same time, I find it hard to reconcile the blatantly opportunistic outcry over the death of an adult who willingly went into a dangerous situation, when there's innocent kids getting shot in Chicago practically every day and no one bats an eye.
It's sad; she shouldn't have died; the killer should be prosecuted according to the law.
But she's not a "martyr", and she does bear some responsibility for knowingly putting herself into a situation where there was a high probability of sudden unpredictable and uncontrollable violence.

But I don't think it's right to say that she "deserved" what she got.
Just to clarify, my main point in not downplaying her portion of the blame is to emphasize the fact that these situations aren't fun&game-y, punch-a-nazi/whack-a-mole entertainment that you can put up on your facebook or snapchat to get up-twinkles from your radical college friends.
These are highly volatile and dangerous situations, and if you decide to go, you need to own the risk that violence will likely happen and that if you probably won't be able to predict where and when in order to get away safely.

Based on the video it appears that Heather Heyer was killed by the car he drove into being forced into other people - though it isn't clear.
Interestingly if that is the case Heyer's family has a clear cut case against the city. Why were cars stuck at that point? Because the police stood down.

Kind of hard to tell with the quality of videos I've seen but it looks to me as if some woman was hit by Fields and thrown over the car he ran into. I don't know if that was her or not but he definitely drove into a crowd before hitting the car.
Take a look at the video from #93. From the vantage point behind the car all you can see is a crowd, not another car. Even the article accompanying the video specifically says his car was hit with a baseball bat before he "hit the crowd with his vehicle". The crowd, not another vehicle.

The reportage has been remarkably fact-free. I suspect vid will emerge that shows what actually happened. YouTube and Google are certainly laying down markers to remove it, though.

Or, just YouTube. About six months ago they went on a (ahem) jihad against "violent content". They have advertisers the option to not pay for placement around "violent and war-related" material. A bunch of full-time content makers saw revenue drop by around 60%, because their videos were if them playing video games.
Plus, if enough people report a video, it'll get pulled. Might be reinstated eventually, might not. I doubt these videos will come back, because YouTube doesn't want to show an actual death.

When the city/state government failed to shut it down a large number of groups allied with them went down to the city to shut down the legal protest.
The city government ordered the police to stand down, and then shut down the protest due to the safety concerns...caused by their own actions.
After being denied his free speech rights, James Alex Fields was forced to drive through a throng that was likely armed and may or may not have attacked his car.
James Alex Fields then sped forward into another car stuck in the crowd ahead of him. We do not know the motive or the goal at this point. As soon as his car hit the one in front of him we do see rioters attacking his car and chasing him.
Now, is it possible Fields's decided to murder someone via car there? Yes...but it seems odd that he chose that moment and to aim for a car instead of people. When we've seen Islamists doing similar things they've aimed for people NOT in cars for the simple reason that you are more likely to kill them, and less likely to cripple your vehicle.

Having said that, if a Defense Attorney showed that video in #93 to me as a juror in court deciding if this guy was guilty of murder, I would have a reasonable doubt seed planted in my mind.

If we assume no ill intent on the part of the city/state government, VA's standard for arrest is "probable cause." Which is fair based on what we've seen - Fields clearly did put his car into motion to cause the injury. Then he would be able to claim self defense or mitigating circumstances.
However, you would be insane to believe that the conduct of the city/state here is anything other then malicious. They intentionally allowed their allies to shut down a rally they didn't like.

The country music station I listen to doesn't do news casts. A significant part of the time I play CDs if I don't like what is on the radio. I don't watch TV news and my social media is just that; family and friends. I could very easily drive into a riot I knew nothing about. Like many Texans I carry a gun in my car; perfectly legal to do so here. Bad things are going to happen if assaulted by a mob of people. That gun is a last ditch Hail Mary play - 3500 lb car is game plan one.

And we do know a lot more about Alex Fields. Like his mother called the police on him twice for beating her and threatening her with a knife. She also said he was not taking his meds to help control his violence. There is also video of him at the rally standing with a helmet and a shield standing in a line with others who are similarly equipped. Not exactly the pose of just a guy going to a peaceful rally.
I really don't get what some of you are seeing in the video. Look again. You can't see any parked cars, only a crowd of people. And this is taken from a much more expansive angle of view than the driver had. And he was driving toward the crowd when a guy swung a bat at his car and hit his rear bumper. He was going to hit them regardless of any hit with a bat.
We'll see but I've seen, read and heard nothing that makes me think this wasn't exactly what it sounds like, an intentional act.

I had it happen to me once. I was behind a car at a stoplight that started slowly creeping back. He tapped my front bumper, but no harm done.
