Can America Survive, Intact?

A correspondent asks this of Rod Dreher, asking if it would not be better for the country to divide into two or three smaller nations and each say goodbye forever to the others.

Dreher says the country can't survive, but it also can't split, because there are no easy lines of geographical division, so we're in for some violent, bad times ahead.

I never get this objection that there are no "easy" ways to divide the country. Of course there are. Hold a county-by-county referendum about which of the American successor states the people would like to affiliate with. Add in some rules about "islands" -- whether they'll be permitted, or if the new states will have to be contiguous, or if land will be conceded to another state to connect the "island" to the state it wants to belong to.

These things can be worked out. One of the weirdest things I hear people object to is the thought they'd have to move if the country divided.

Oh? You'll have to move? You mean, like you have to do when you're offered a better job than the one you have now? You mean you'll have to move like Americans used to do all the time -- sometimes even braving the Donner Pass?

If it's not important enough to move, then, like a job which is somewhat enticing but not so much better than your current one you decide not to move, then don't move. If you're like "Eh, I guess I'd rather live in the blue America but I guess it doesn't matter too much," then you don't really care either way, and you can just sit tight without kvetching about all the moving other people will have to do.

My belief on this is that if it is worth it to move to another state for a $10-15,000 salary increase, then it's worth it to have your own political destiny placed more securely in your own hands. If you're wigged out by the idea that you'll have to house-hunt and pack up a U-haul, well, what can I say -- stay in Blue America, son. Seems about your speed.

Another bizarre objection I've heard -- seriously -- is that no one will agree to this because people like "Blue America's" TV shows too much.

Um, we see tv shows from the BBC and even Canada. Do you really think that Hollywood won't allow its tv shows and movies to be broadcast in the Read American States? They put their stuff anywhere on the globe where there's a demand.

And, again, if the chance that your favorite Premium Cable TV Show won't be available on HBO Red, then what can I say? Stay in Blue America -- obviously, TV is most important to you, and you've found your true home.

Same thing with trade. The US and England almost immediately began trading with each other after two major wars. I think Blue America will have need of Red America's food, and I guess Red America will need Blue America's... FaceBook and iPhones, I guess.

So we'll -- get this -- just trade in services and goods, as we do now.

Another objection people have is that a Red America, without the (ahem) moderating influence of the intolerant, totalitarian fascist Blue America SJWs, would become too "extreme" and they wouldn't like to live under such a regime.

1, fine, stay in the Blue America, and 2, from what I've seen of the GOP, they are pretty damn liberal and I imagine many of their supporters are actually pretty liberal. So yeah, I expect a more conservative Red America, but not an extreme one.

As I've said before: I want out. I want done. I do not wish to live among these people any longer, and from their daily purges and witch-hunts, it's pretty clear to me they feel the same.

Unless they can coerce me into bending the knee-- which will not happen.

The idea that we can keep the country together just by forcing the Deplorables to be re-educated... well, that way lies tremendous bloodshed.

I don't expect this country to survive the increasingly violent divisions, and I believe a good divorce is much better than bitter, violent marriage.

I think it's time to start proposing this seriously.

and when the democong cheat in close cases, and ignore the results when they loses? this is something they have a long history of doing

Point 1.5- Why should we abadon Americans in democong controlled enclaves, esp. those whose economic ability to move has already been sabotaged?

Point 2-
Why should any of these leeches get ANY of America's wealth? This is OUR country, we and OUR grandparents built it

Point 3- There is no punishment for the subversion and treason committed by the Left and the globalists in this scenario

Point 4-
Once the democong solidify their control of their own areas, how soon before they start encroaching on ours?

68 Ace, I do not believe a peaceful division as you postulate is do-able. Millions would need to or desperately want to move for political, personal freedoms, and economic reasons.

If your company moves to what the shareholders believe are greener pastures, but those pastures don't have the right to keep and bear arms, and you want to be armed, then what? Move, or hope you can find a new, equivalent paying job where you are?

How does the economics stuff sort-out? Three nations with different labor rates, taxes, and costs of living (NY compared to Arkansas, for example), and vastly different natural resources, are going to set-up and operate some sort of mutual free-trade arrangement? Can be done, but not without a lot of start-up pains and then many, many unexpected consequences to sort-out as they come about.

I wish your wish could happen, but I'm extremely pessimistic.

"You mean you'll have to move like Americans used to do all the time -- sometimes even braving the Donner Pass?"

Actually, "Donner Pass" (as it is now called) was the preferred overland route to California because it was the LEAST dangerous way to go, the lowest-altitude pass through the Sierras. It only became infamous due to the 1846 blizzard that trapped the Donner Party (hence the pass's name) who famously resorted to cannibalism to survive. But that same blizzard in 1846 was WORSE in all the other parts of the Sierra -- even that year, the Donner Pass was STILL the safest way to go.

By now, as reflected by Ace's usage, the very phrase "Donner Pass" is like code phrase for danger, but it's ironic because in reality it should be a code phrase for the safest way to go.

So lets just give minorities their own states. All the diversity hiring would not be a problem ... "racist" whites would be completely out of their way. Another problem would be what to do when the Democrat People's Republic of Blue America fails, as it inevitably does, and a flood of blue people washes south and west. That's what happened to Virginia. The blue people voted for high tax, pro-crime, pro-drug, anti-business, anti-family policies in DC and Maryland, bitched about the results, then fled en masse to Virginia to vote for the same thing all over again. 121 "But where do you see a roll back with the left , "

Trump is a tool. The "movement" is bigger than he, and has only started. I date it back to the Tea Party. Politically, outside the federal government, it's already been happening at the state and muni level for much of the country.

The fight is with The Borg, much of which can't sustain itself financially. This includes many Blue States and many cities, which will go broke. This may take some time, but it's inevitable. Same for much of Academia.

If reforms happen -- Trump's already started -- many big companies will realize the long-term benefits of being back in the US. We can get back to sustained 3.5% to 4.0% GDP growth.

Right now, Trump is a Plurality President. But the Ds are on trajectory to fuck themselves. I expect Trump to run against everyone in 2018, including the GOPe, and get better control of the Senate and keep the House. By 2020, Trump will be a majority President.

126 Part of the problem with this whole scenario: Conservatives keep waiting for the WHOLE NATION, AND presumably D.C., to give us their blessing to separate.

That won't happen. Too many egotistical assholes, mostly on the left, won't allow it.

Conservatives should truly flex their muscles by doing this *on their own.*

Create something called the "10-Year Movement." Announce on every conservative blog that we all need to move to certain spots of the country where freedom is still valued, and that every conservative is welcome. Evangelize; sell the concept and describe the process, so that people know exactly what we're trying to do, how we're going to do it, what they need to do to join us, and how much we'll help to make it as painless and easy as possible.

Raise money to help the people who can't afford to make the move. Find investors to help expand and maybe even create new neighborhoods, towns and even cities to move to within Red Nation. Help create jobs and job networks in the areas where conservatives want to go, so finding new employment in their new home won't be as difficult.

DC will never let official separation happen, but conservatives can *make* it happen on a practical level, without having to pass legislation or having to try to appeal to assholes who won't listen.

130 Meanwhile, Google warns that the upcoming solar eclipse may cause GLOBAL WARMING!!!!! and to prevent this you should agree to CEDE CONTOL OF YOUR THERMOSTATS TO GOOGLE:

http://www.sfgate.com/business/article/ Nest-thermostats-to-save-power-during-Aug-21-11752172.php

The theory, as advanced by "Alphabet," the official corporate name of Google which also has a subsidiary which makes "smart" (i.e. Orwellian) thermostats:

-- The eclipse will decrease the amount of sun hitting the Earth

-- Hence, output from solar-power arrays will decrease

-- Hence, we'll have to BURN MORE EVIL FOSSIL FUELS to make up the missing power to the electric grid! Oh noes!!!

Solution? Click "OK" and let Google take total control of your thermostat, and they will TURN OFF YOUR AIR CONDITIONING DURING THE ECLIPSE so there is less demand on the grid, and thus less need to burn evil natural gas.

Is this all absurd virtue-signalling? Yes it is.

Will the impact of the eclipse on solar power generation be almost nil? Yes it will.

But Google never misses a chance to convince SJWs to hand over control to the Corporate Betters.

And the SJWs fall in line, like good little sheeplebots.

131 Mine has always been a five or ten year plan where you divide the country geographically into two the best you can based on political leaning and then during that time businesses and people can relocate to the country they prefer if not already there. The relocation businesses that would pop up because of the need would take care of most of the problems. During this period the powers to be would negotiate the division of assets and treaties would be created. It gets me excited just thinking about it.

153 My belief on this is that if it is worth it to move to another state for a $10-15,000 salary increase, then it's worth it to have your own political destiny placed more securely in your own hands

Ace sounds as if (I may be misreading him) the morons/ettes need consider only themselves when thinking about moving to a red state or out of a blue one. It's one thing for singles, childless couples, or empty-nesters without caregiving responsibilities for elderly parents to decide to move, but it's a lot more complicated for people with family obligations of various types (like the spouse's job, the kids' schools, the elderly parent's doctor) to pack up and go. My mother is gone now, but when I remember what she was like in the last stages of Alzheimer's, I would have found moving just about impossible. YMMV.

These are the "conservatives" that ruined the country.

Imagine a game of tug-of-war where half of your side thinks the flag being in the middle is the ideal state, and then only slightly pulls on the rope so that the flag cannot go past it: the flag's always going to end up on the opposing side, and in fact will keep moving to the opposing side, because those people are afraid the others on their team are pulling too hard. That's who those people are.

Many of us adopt the extreme position to counter the extreme position of the left, not because we actually desire the extreme position.

Posted by: JSchuler at August 11, 2017 07:12 PM (YsGL+)

214 The real tragic part of the Donner Party story is how close they were to freedom, and didn't quite realize it, so they foolishly tried to wait it out until the snow melted. If they had just said "Screw it -- we're plunging ahead anyway!" they could have trudged through the snow to lower elevation and snowless safety in about four or five days. Six at the most. And in fact they could have done that at any point during the winter.

Instead, they made an epic blunder in decision-making, not realizing that it was downhill all the way from where they were, and thought it was safer to just stay put (for what they thought would bee a couple weeks) until the snow melted. Ooops. Didn't melt for five MONTHS. And then they ran out of food, and were too weak to continue without it.

If you look at a map today, or drive Highway 80, you wonder how in the world they could be trapped and snowbound so close to civilization. These days, in a car, it takes 90 minutes to get below the snow line from Donner Pass.

Even back then, with showshoes, it wouldn't have been that difficult.

This has been discussed here the HQ many many many times. Those foreseeing violence just keep asserting it as a certainty, without any convincing arguments that it is so.

So far, hasn't happened. Yes, it is an uglier, less free, less constitutional, less American America, by the day (consider the jaw-dropping hecklers' veto, with connivance from the institutions, on American university campuses, or the crude and open racism that is now simply the norm for racist-authoritarian public figures and elected officials).

Yes.

A small faction of leftists have control over the media, education and the Ivy League. The bulk of their followers are misguided and misinformed. The left's leadership is strong and hard core, while most of the opposition's leadership is soft and not ideological.

But the opposition's rank and file are strong and committed to America and her ideals. They are hungry for a leader and in PDT they found one.

The question is Trump strong and smart enough to lead the core from the heart of the enemies stronghold, where he is constantly assailed from every direction?

There are "blue" voters in Red states and (plenty of) red voters living in Blue states and people have family living all over. Even large states like California ( lol) and Texas couldn't make it on their own and would have to form alliances with other individual states or what's left of the USA. Tucker brought this up recently when talking to a California exit idiot. The look on his face, like he never thought of a civil war before.

What makes the left in California think the rest of the US would give up the West Coast (and its agricultural bounties) so easily?

This is what happened in Canada. Quebec won't legitimately separate, but they have tried and the referendum always fails. Although once it came very close. I think by 1%. But they are too afraid to actually do it, so they force the "roc" rest of the country into doing their bidding with the "threat" of separating. They enjoy the highest of federal monies. That is why the ROC hates them so much.

Most of the ROC wants them to separate. But they wouldn't survive economically and they know it.

I'm not sure what separating out the US states would do.

I would much rather get the people back together, and slam the Ruling Class back to the Middle Ages.

I don't know how though. But, when you talk to many liberals (if you do not discuss politics), some can be decent human beings. We are all being snookered and used. 298 It was far worse in 1968. The Vietnam War went sideways with the Tet Offensive in February, after Khe Sanh in January (use of tactical nukes was considered).

Eugene McCarthy (Bernie Sanders) mobilized the young and took out a sitting President, LBJ, who declined to run. RFK jumped into the race, opportunistically. Humphrey ran as LBJ's surrogate.

MLK got shot in April, and race riots followed.

Students rebellions hit colleges all over the world.

RFK fought it out with Humphrey and McCarthy, and then declared victory in a speech at a California hotel after he won that state's primary. He didn't get past the kitchen.

There were riots at the Democratic convention in Chicago. Mayor Daley told his cops to break hippie's heads. Humphrey emerged with the nomination.

Nixon ran as the alternative for the Silent Majority with a Secret Plan to end the Vietnam War. Humphrey couldn't get separation from LBJ and the War, before election day and lost. If he had had another month he might have won.

Keith Richards wrote Gimme Shelter.

The year ended with a grace note, as Apollo 8 circled the Moon. The Astronauts read from Genesis as Man saw an Earthrise for the first time.

So 1968 was a fucked up year.

There, does that feel better?

Even though it has no basis?

No ostrich here, just callin' 'em as I see 'em.

I don't see widespread violence, I don't see anything approaching a civil war. I see lots of the awful degradation continuing, some being pushed back just a bit, and people either moving states or continuing their adapt/and become alienated routine where they live.

Nor will there be any de jure division of the country along ideological lines.

312 I think the basic situation is this:

It has to get much worse before "serious" politicians start talking about a national divorce.

The left believes we are evil and need to be at best re-educated and enserfed, at worse outright killed. They also believe our wrong thoughts are all that is stopping Utopia.

The left therefore will continue to make things worse any chance they get.

And we will, within a generation, have separation...or war. The one caveat is a charismatic, really moderate, Democrat that could lead the left back from the brink...which I believe to be seriously unlikely.

That would give them more land area than they actually currently control, on a county-by-county basis.

Then every Democrat who wants to can move to the newly formed

We would need to keep either San Diego or Seattle. We need a Pacific port. Geographically, I'd prefer Seattle because I wouldn't want to have the entire Mexican border be abutting Red America, but everything else is in San Diego's favor. The population is more conservative than Seattle, and we have the naval facilities for our Pacific fleet. Can't count on Pearl, you know Hawaii would go blue.

Today's left is much softer. We have transgenders and pussy hats and other weirdness. Not nearly as violent. When I was in jr high in NJ, our high school was shut down repeatedly for race fights including knife fights. And this wasn't Newark.

Yes.1967 and 1968. Race riots, draft and anti-war riots, people getting killed in the street. The SDS and Weathermen were growing in street power, as were the Black Panthers.

Nobody could have seen 1968 from 1960, just 8 years before. Ike was just finishing 8 years of his presidency.

And from 1968, nobody could have seen 1976 and then 1980, when Reagan was elected.

Times change. We are at a watershed moment (again) in America. As someone else said, we will likely become one thing or another.

Lastly, a civil war, or civil separation? The police organs of the Nation (FBI, CIA, NSA, etc) are watching for trouble, and would stomp on a lot of nascent, start up separatist movements. It will likely be completely out in the open (like the CalExit movement) or take us all by complete surprise. I don't know how people can actually organize without the Federal Gov. knowing about it.

370 It's actually easier than you think. Remember that the Left gifted us with a takeover of public schools. We get federal standards for schools. Why not use it? Demand civics classes and American History (without Zinn). Impose standards on school textbooks, that lean Right not Left. Whip universities back in line, like cutting off student aid until they use their endowments. We could make major changes for the future of this country, if we had the will to use the tools in the way the Left does.

386 The absolute best aspect of a breakup is that Washington, DC would cease business as a tyrannical power. It might reconstitute as two other federal capitals, but DC would die.

And therein lies the real irony of this leftist fantasy of Calexit: federalism. Real, no shit federalism would address almost every concern of the left (and right for that matter).

Imagine that Washington DC ONLY handled what it constitutionally should. It would have very little political power since that power would reside in the states. Each state would be free to fly its freak flag as much as it wanted (looking at you, California).

Want unbridled socialism? Go for it , Vermont, but don't expect, say, Oklahoma to underwrite your little experiment in equality. You're on your own.

Louisiana wants legal prostitution? Fine. Iowa wants to legalize smoking dope? That's really up to Iowa. Washington, DC can fuck all.

Of course, when the left gets power, they feel the need to inflict their destructive ideas and policies on EVERYONE whether they like it or not.

Add to that the fact that only about a third of the population works and no area will be able to buy its way out because it brings the day of reckoning forward to the present.

But ultimately, a version of that may be what happens. The government will become strapped enough for cash that it will let people buy their own emancipation. You can have all of these government "services" or you can pay us a fee and we will leave you be. Sound absurd? Don't think that it can happen? Then what do you call Obamacare?

1st, I agree that secession/"divorce" is preferable to the present hellhole.

2nd, if we're going to do it, though, we need to revise the constitution and put safeguards in place to prevent infestation by leftists. See Kurt Schlichter's suggestion of full citizenship being tied to military service, or something similar.

3rd, we ought to be laying the groundwork for this now. If you live in a blue state, move to a red area within it or to a red state. (I'm in Missouri so I can talk, but still.) Start talking up the possibility. Cut contact with leftist individuals and organizations as much as possible.

But I agree with the people up top that this is going to involve violence at some point, and we should be prepared for that.

Illegal immigrants, refugees, and, sorry, criminals of all types will most likely gravitate towards the Blue America. Red America will be safer, better schools, jobs probably more plentiful. And, at some point, Blue America, with all their welfare programs and handouts, will run out of money. Look how all these Democrats are now moving to places like Texas, which are Republican run.

People should be able to decide if they want to be citizens of the USA-A or USA-B

Citizens of USA-A would get free healthcare, free college, free pensions, and a guaranteed minimum wage. But they would have to pay the taxes necessary to support these programs.

Citizens of USA-B would have to arrange all of these things privately, but taxes will be much lower, and the government would pretty much leave them alone.

Somethings like roads or infrastructure we have to be shared, but these things could be worked out government to government.

There's no reason for anybody to move. My neighbor can be a citizen of USA-A, and as long as he doesn't bother me, I don't care.

425 So what's to stop liberal losers from shifting into Red America and then just starting their agitation there?

Seventy five years is not a long time in the lifetime of a country--ours, yes, as we're young, but I mean with the future ahead and leftists just having finally achieved (in this scenario) a chunk of what they want. OK they want more, so they continue patiently dividing in the now-smaller country they seek to take over. Do we then face losing a big chunk of THAT smaller country in less than a century?

Within less time in the future than our nation has already existed, they will have stolen the entire thing for themselves, and the last portion might not even be that difficult for them because we'll have shrunk so much in population and defense capabilities it'll be a cakewalk for them.

And, Ace, that "GOP is really liberal" angle you mention--you're right, as we here in Alaska saw (and have seen before) with Lisa Murkowski (and other states have seen it). I'm not convinced that will help us in the way you think it will, but rather just enable a speedier capitulation.

I joke a lot about California getting TFO, but in reality I say f*** them, let them feel the squeeze. Enact laws that dictate filming movies in the US (so they have to pay higher taxes), continue on the path of keeping money from sanctuary cities, make them and other states pay their own BS marketplace costs even though it will lead them down the tubes to construct their own idiotic one-payer systems, punish states that try to dictate to others what they can and cannot do.

Alaska fought to be a state against that very same BS, forced to dodge roadblocks because our existence as a state got in the way of Washington State's smooth operations and pocket-lining. I actually wasn't alive when this was being fought out, but today I'll be damed if I'll give up one red inch of Alaskan land.

Apart from that, all of this is my country, not just Alaska, and while I finished my four years already, the commitment was for all of it, and is for a lifetime, so I have no plans to allow anyone to easily destroy my beautiful country, not by direct attack, not by infiltration, not by piecemeal grabs. And none of our ancestors or brothers and sisters died so we could simply hand it all over to those who will complete the destruction, who don't give a sh** about the real meaning of liberty, and who dance on the graves of those who fell for them.

This country is not without flaws, but it is also beautiful and filled with amazing people who have done and can do more to make a better life than any other country on the planet, and there is no way in heaven or hell I will give up what God gifted to me and the rest of Americans, the luckiest people on the planet.

433 I propose the following:a ballot with all 50 states listed on it. "Choose one state to throw out of the Union. You may vote for the last state you claimed residency in." Whoever gets the most votes gets voted out. CA would get the boot, i guarantee it and that's 70% of the problems gone. Blue CA, who voted to leave, would then turn into Mad Max. Red CA, who also voted to leave for totally different reasons, would hold their ground until the fires went out. Cut Jerry Brown's carcass down from the tree where the residents of Compton hanged him, re write CA's constitution, then apply to rejoin the Union.

434 A Calexit would solve most our problems, 55 electoral college votes for Dems gone.

We should be on the inside of that pushing it. At the very leadt, get .CA to split into 4-5 states to liberate the remaining Americans.

435 We have major military installations on both coasts that we can't cede to the Left. If the entire west coast separates, plus Hawaii, we'd be hard pressed to support any military obligations in the Pacific (assuming there would be any after the split. Maybe we'd be too internally-focused to care.).

436 There may be a silver lining to a separation. After separation, if the Lefties keep trying to undermine the Red nation, that could be seen as an act of war, and we would then be justified in invading them. That state-on-state, Westphalian thing.

Posted by: Anonymous at August 12, 2017 12:53 AM (v5uOx)

437 If you really want to return power to the states vice the federal government, repeal the 17th Amendment and let the states determine how to select their senators. The senate was supposed to represent the states, while the House represents the people.

The popular election of senators now allows their allegiance to parties at the national level. Repeal of the 17 Amendment breaks that.

If a senator goes against state sentiment (e.g., McCain), the governor can reel him in, or even replace him.

And if we now have 33 states in Republican hands, that would translate to 66 Republican senators. Who says we couldn't get sh*t done now?

438 So if we do this can we then legally hunt hippies for sport?

Posted by: Max at August 12, 2017 01:07 AM (tWkhJ)

439 Yes, repealing the 17th Amendment is vital, regardless of what else is done. Note that the 17th was one of the earliest "progressive reforms" of the Constitution. It turned out to be a giant step towards a centralized national government.

440 Delusional.

God created North America to conquer the world.

North America is the world's best and most immune engine of capital creation. The Mississippi drainage basin and intracoastal waterway are easy access to the largest chunk of arable land on Earth, Atlantic to the Rockies, Montana to Alabama. Shipping goods by water is 15 times cheaper than shipping by land, even today. This engine of free capital is secured by tundra to the north, desert to the south, a 3000 mile wide moat to the east, and a 13000 mile wide moat to the west.

An engine of empire so potent will not be amicably split into castrated pieces just because the current generations are having temper tantrums.

As was the case when Cavaliers faced Roundheads, when Loyalists faced Patriots, and when Johnny Reb faced Billy Yank, one side will see its dreams crushed and the other side will ride its ideals to immanentization.

The engine of empire will march on.

441 Avoiding a Bloody Civil War:

Barack Obama, head of the Resistance, and President Donald J. Trump stand on a Mississippi River bank and flip a coin (and not one of those Hillary coins). Heads gets East of the River, Tails west. Already blue Hawaii goes to Barry. DJT gets Alaska.

Then comes what historians will call the Great Sorting. A time of choosing. A great multi-directional migration forming two nation states.

Moments after the coin toss:

DJT: You know the first thing I'm going to do is build a Wall, right? A Big, Beautiful Wall, and you're going to pay for it.
Obama: OH SHIT

442 Humanity doesn't avoid wars.

Humanity fights wars.

I don't know how events will play out in CONUS; maybe overt civil war, maybe Weimar style street militias fighting it out until "The Party" comes to power. But one side will be crushed, the other victorious.

God's own engine of world conquest will not be dismembered because a few generations have a temper tantrum.

I don't see a repeal of the 17th Amendment doing much at this point. You'll just go from popularly elected Senators bringing home the bacon to state legislator elected Senators bringing home the bacon (and under orders to do so from state governments to make up state government shortfalls.

Hence I am neither for nor against, and it's not the panacea some advocates think it is. (If the 17th Amendment was repealed, no way in hell Ted Cruz gets elected to the Senate, not with that repulsive gang of statists in the Texas Legislature.)

Posted by: CatchThirtyThr33 at August 12, 2017 04:06 AM (SlDR3)

444 Let me get this straight.

We lose elections, and we get to live under every insane law, regulation, court decision, and whim the left can come up with, because shut up whiner.

We win, and they get to ignore it. They rule the states they control as if the election never happened, and- not satisfied- they then demand the country be broken up as well, to suit them better.

I say the Hell with these people. Let them live under sanity for while and maybe they'll begin to understand why government should be limited. Failing that, fuck off, vermin. Go to Venezuela where your true home really is.

But in any case don't pretend any national divorce will be peaceful. Expect conservatives to be cleansed from any leftist-controlled area, violently, and expect leftists in red states to demand to be left alone to live and agitate for their vile brand of crazy. They won't.

That's the starting point. Because people are people, it will go down hill from there, quickly and bloodily. Leftists and Americans don't like each other any more, which is why this topic is at hand.

Interesting times, as the saying goes.

Posted by: Xennady at August 12, 2017 04:06 AM (kjjqn)

445 Ace is correct, those saying there are no natural boundaries....who cares?

But once divorce happens, both sides renounce the ability to travel freely in the other side and are subject to whatever immigration laws that country has. And we put up a border wall immediately. I don't want all their progressive immigrants coming back to civilization when their communism wet dreams end exactly how everyone told them it would and it becomes Lord of the Flies.

================

I haven't heard of that book by Neal Stephenson, but it's now on my reading list -- thanks.

I've been waiting for hyperinflation in America for 30 years. I suppose one day I'll be right; have to believe it will happen within the next 30 years at this rate.

Some sharp folks over at ZeroHedge explain that we haven't seen it here yet because we've exported it to other (mostly third-world) nations. Also the fact that the US Dollar is still the world's reserve currency, and once that goes ...

I suspect those reasons as well as some of it being hidden in the various debt bubbles here like the stock market along with the numerous debt bubbles in virtually every other country on the planet.

448 We are not destroying the Republic in order to save it. Try and you will start a three-way civil war.

Going back to the old Federal model would do most of what you want, along with overturning unConstitutional decisions like Obergefell and Reynolds vs Sims.

449 A two (2) state solution for America is easy.
Do this county by county, based on the 2016 presidential election results.
Those counties that voted for Trump would stay in the United States of America, USA.
Those counties that voted for Hillary would become part of the new Soviet States of America, SSA.
This is a natural solution because
1. it would satisfy the conservatives who believe in the US Constitution, the rule of law, freedom, and free market economics.
2. it would satisfy the Marxist/communists/socialists who want to live in a communist utopia, much like Chicago or NYC.
So, for instance, California would be split in two: the coastal areas would be in the SSA, while the inland areas, including the food growing Central Valley, would remain in the USA.
Similar situations would evolve in Illinois, Michigan, and New York.
The end result would be that all the people that work growing food, for instance, would be in the USA.
Religious folks could freely practice their religions, live in harmony with their families, and be productive.
Many urban manufacturing areas would be in the SSA.
Liberals could finally adopt big government as the basic social unit and get rid of families, much like they already have done in most big cities.
This is a win/win situation!

450 I live in a suburb of Seattle.

I like where I live.

Election to decide?

Eff that shit. I have no problem killing the leftist bastards until the right becomes the majority.

BTW, Trump got 7% in Seattle.

I'll be busy, apparently.

451 So we separate? So what? Do you think they will let you stay in your red state unmolested? Of course not. They will start to agitate to move the window leftward in your red state, just like they did in formerly red America.

Do you really think we will be able to have a nice, neat, binary separation, because the population is a nice, neat binary mix of "liberals" and "conservatives"?

I think not.

Fifty years after this separation you talk about, it will start up all over again.

Which is why I say I want only one thing.

We win.

They lose.

I would just like to note how the window of acceptable discourse has shifted. A few years ago mentioning the possibility of this was bounds for the banhammer of Endor coming down.

Thank you for keeping current with the feeling across our country.

455 I think that turning point was Ace's Para Bellum piece. He's smarter and wiser than me, and he's honest with himself. So I knew it was just a matter of time before he moved closer to me.

I don't expect him to embrace my violent solutions though. I admit it may be a mix of Marine indoctrination coupled with some psychosis. For example, If some SJW in HR destroyed my future over a good faith memo critiquing diversity programs, I'd destroy her future too, starting with her kids. More as an object lesson for other SJWs than for revenge.

But in the current place and time, that attitude marks me as "mad" and is not allowed in this establishment! It's also why the wife won't let me have super powers or a Monster Truck or WMDs. Sigb. So I'll behave and just sit back and add names to the list as I do recon and game theory ops for when the walls all eventually come tumbling down.

457 Or would could just have the country follow the 10th Ammendment, and states could make their own laws about welfare, healthcare etc and the fed gov could stay out of it.
