The Morning Report 8/10/17

GuamKimHank.jpg

Good morning kids. Sorry for the late post; computer crashed. The Korean crisis continues to dominate the linkage this morning as the fat psycho is now openly planning to launch a salvo of missiles at Guam later this month. Secretary of Defense Mattis has issued an unambiguous warning that backs up PDT's "fire and fury" statement from the other day. Check the link out anyway for a couple of other classic Mattis-isms.

Meanwhile, over in the DC Sewer, the unaccountable politburo of the CFPB is pumping out another edict that will prove to be a windfall to the trial lawyers, and a not insignificant 6.5 million people paid the fine tax fine tax rather than sign on to Obamacare. Meanwhile, as the nation's oldest pro-Israel group has called for McMusturd to resign, PDT is standing by him. At the same time, the president has blasted McYertle for his comments about "excessive expectations" from the voters and yet he is endorsing an establishment stooge, Luther Strange, in the Alabama special senate race. There were a couple of Alabama morons who mentioned that Strange was preferable to Brooks or Moore, so I guess I have to defer to them since I don't know the political landscape of the state. Still, it is axiomatic to me that anyone or anything McYertle pushes has got to be bad for America.

Lastly, the one thing that jumped out at me was the statistic and article that almost one quarter of all federal prison inmates are illegal aliens. And yet, Dondi, McStains and Schemer think that we're assholes that need to STFD and STFU. Right back at you.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

7 If Lil' Phat manages to launch a salvo of missiles at Guam, I would count that as a failure of PDTS, whether they make it there or not. Lil' Phat is a very real danger and needs to be killed, and his regime destroyed.

8 Anyone astute enough to read a graph can look at the Labor Participation Graph and see that since the year 2000 the rate has been in continual free-fall. That was the year China was awarded 'permanent' most favored trade status. Between 60,000 to 70,000 American factories disappeared in the next decade. Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter (I know - a moment of lucidity) famously predicted that trade with China would get out of hand and we would lose leverage over them.

We have lost leverage over them. Our calls to them to rein in Phat Boi have been largely ineffective.

I support a return to year-to-year review of China's trade status with the United States. Every US citizen and our Senators - who could write the legislation and deliver it to President Trumps desk - should support this effort.

I imagine if he does that, there are standing orders to shoot them down and then that will be the signal to take him out. Or at least administer some sort of proportional response, if the missile shoot downs are not that to begin with.

But I agree that regime change is now necessary.

13 The Saga: An interlude. The Golden Scalp Weasel is soaking up some sun while Tweeting like mad, resting while his foes exhaust themselves.

Anyway, I thought about things, like what would a feminist trans-sexual, gay, (keep adding stuff in the edits) musical sound like?

Other than a pack of cats fighting over the last gram of tuna clinging to the lid of the can.

But using my ability of Bullshit (expert level - I need more bullshitting before I level up) I created this excerpt of that musical set at Evergreen State College in Washington state, with Zoe, who is transcending the normal relationships between women and men, lesbians and gays, reality and what ever is passing through what remains of the mind she had - and Bob, who is a weak-willed graphics art major totally turned on by Zoe's purple hair, eyebrow piercing, and that he knows she puts out before the first date.

Their relationship is turmoil and frustration, growing closer and parting as various minor characters come in to effect the relationship and, frankly weird things up. At the end of Act IV we have this:

Excerpts from "Evergreen - The Musical"

Zoe - That's not right!
Bob - What isn't?
Zoe - The ad! It portrays women as weak minded!
Bob - It's an old Newsweek from...1972.
Zoe - I'm triggered.
Bob - Uh huh?

Zoe sings - I'm triggered, I'm triggered, I'm triggered today!
Something old has got in my way!
An ad for Tide or an Electrolux Vacuum!
And even worse, Chanel perfume!
I am a woman, strong and severe,
But if you offend me, I'll shriek out your ear!
You men need
To be put in your place,
Triple NASA's budget and
I'll send all penis' into space!

That's not funny.
That's not funny,
There's no humor here!
If you keep laughing I'll ban all your beer!
Your reason's no good
Though you you think it should
That's not funny, there's no humor here!

Bob - But Zoe, isn't there some common ground?

Zoe -You belch and you fart
You make such a noise
The world would be better
Without any boys.
We fill all the schools and will write the laws
Send you to the Camps!
We have plenty of cause!

That's not funny.
That's not funny,
There's no humor here!
If you keep laughing I'll ban all your beer!
Your reason's no good
Though you you think it should
That's not funny, there's no humor here!

Bob - But what about us?

Zoe - Us is a word meant to weaken my will.
You are cute Bob, but men owe such a bill.
Women are better
At everything.
If you say other
Your neck we will wring.

And so it is time
To start our plan
To rid this earth
Of every man
We start really little
And then we go big
Like how the mouse
Ate an elephant
As big as a house!

That's not funny.
That's not funny,
There's no humor here!
If you keep laughing I'll ban all your beer!
Your reason's no good
Though you think it should
That's not funny, there's no humor here!

Zoe - Consider yourself denounced, Bob. Take him away sisters!

Curtain closes on Act IV, Scene 3 of "Evergreen - The Musical".

I just need to find the right "Rainbow Flag" (if you know what I mean and I think that you do) to take the idea and finish it up, provide the cover, and Kennedy Awards, here I come!

19 You have to wonder if the Chinese military is now actively egging Whoa Fat on towards a second Korean war. The Russians have been shipping military supplies to the border, presumably for quick resupply when the action kicks off. Presumably the Iranians are gearing up to take advantage of the smoke around the Korean war to come, maybe thinking its their grand chance to push all Jews into the sea.

All the Obama appeasement eggs are coming home to hatch.

20 538 and the historical bias towards the GOP:

Once upon a time the electoral map was really biased towards Democrats (Great Depression to 1994). It changed when the Democrats got out of the mainstream. The answer is a simple one - do what the majority of citizens prefer - but the Democrats cannot or their base will burn them, and not in effigy.

25 North Korea launching missiles at Guam would be a violation of the cease fire, even if they were dummy/duds that did nothing but splash down ten miles offshore.

In other cease fire scenarios an occasional gunshot doesn't necessarily end the cease fire (The Korean DMZ had the occasional gunshot, as I remember it, from time to time. Some of them were fatal I think.) but that would then be a topic of discussion in the next regularly scheduled negotiation session.

Actually detonating a nuclear device in the vicinity of Guam would be an egregious violation and it would mean we go to war again.

On the ONT rickl posted a link to nuclearsecrecy.com
http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=371042#c27457499 and I've been reading stuff over there. Seems legit. So far I haven't read anything I disagree with but my normal cynical disposition suspects the author has a tiny bit of desire to find a better process.

It is like in the movies, the Hollywood cliche where the hero fights the villain for nearly ninety minutes after several close calls finally gets the villain down has him at gun point, and the villain says, "you don't have the guts to pull the trigger", and the movie ending is one of several variations on a theme.

41 Yesterday I was thinking that China was going to take more aggressive measures in reining North Korea in. But in thinking over that, I was likely putting in my own perspective instead of seeing it from China's.

So now I'm wondering if China is tacitly encouraging KJU to do this, perhaps as a way to see what our no-kidding defense responses are make note of them for future reference. China gets deniability ("Hey, he was crazy! We tried to tell him to stand down but he wouldn't listen!") and sees how our new Administration acts and reacts in crisis mode.

Here at home, I'm very impatient by those politicians who are rushing to the microphone to say that talking tough to KJU isn't helpful. Yeah, we tried the soft won't-sink-to-their-level approach and the guy is still threatening to rain down nuclear death. So shut up.

48 A little history...

President Clinton and most of the business community want Congress to give up its annual review of China's trade status so a trade deal that was worked out between U.S. and Chinese negotiators in the fall can take effect.

That deal requires China to reduce or eliminate many of the barriers that make it difficult for U.S. companies to compete for business there. But labor, human rights and environmental advocates oppose the change, saying China's record in those areas won't improve without the annual congressional review.

Congress has never revoked China's trade status in the 20-year history of the review.

Specter noted that he has consistently voted for annual favored trade status for China.

But in a statement he plans to deliver on the Senate floor today, Specter said he opposes permanent status because of China's human rights record and its "flagrant proliferation of weapons of mass destruction."

snip...

Specter also cited a "flagrant proliferation of weapons of mass destruction" as a reason for keeping the annual trade review, saying no amount of trade profit is worth the security risk posed by the China.

"As a matter of basic morality, the U.S. should not engage in such a balancing test or even consider rewarding the People's Republic of China's aggressive tactic," Specter said.

(pretty damn prophetic)

Several things are guiding their decision making. The ones I can see are:

a) they do not want a flood of NorK refugees to deal with
b) they do not want a reunified Korea that is allied with the US
c) they want to see/test our reaction and resolve as it will guide their next moves in the South China Sea and possibly Taiwan

I think given all of that as well as the fact that a psycho is perfecting nuclear weapons and ICBMs, the die has been cast and PDT must move to take him out or otherwise neutralize him in a way that the world and our enemies can recognize.

I am seeing articles all over the place that Trump is the one who is causing this to escalate and he should just ignore Phat Boi just like we have done for the past two decades. My irony meter is pegged now.

I can't believe they are all saying these things with a straight face and ignoring the last 8-20 years that got us into this mess in the first place. And the left and the #neverTrumpers are eating it up hoping this will be what bring him down.

In a sane world?

Our submarines off the cost of North Korea are given the launch order.

Everything of military or strategic value in the North goes byebye. China issues a strongly worded denunciation, but is secretly glad to have gotten rid of a worthless pest of an ally that had outlived its usefulness. The real Korean government in the South steps up to decontaminate and rebuild what's left of the North, with our help, not that they really need it.

In this world?

Hell if I know, nothing makes sense anymore.

I definitely think he believes his own press.

China's reason is most likely a very simple one.

To test Trump.

If he passes (and slaps Fat Boy down), they know he's good for his word and to play nice for the rest of his Presidency.

If he fails (backs down from a fight), they know that they can get whatever they want by applying enough pressure.

North Korea has largely outlived any usefulness it had to them, so I doubt they're intending to get pulled into a war that they have no possible means of winning.

Seriously, we'd have the PLAN on the bottom of the sea within a few hours, and unfettered air superiority over their country shortly after. All their millions of troops would be worthless, since they wouldn't be able to deploy across an ocean full of hostile USN warships.

Proportional response is the worst policy ever. It never leads to anything but tit-for-tat escalation. One side starts at intensity 1, the next replies at intensity 2, etc.

Disproportionate response is a much better policy, where if you fuck with us at level 1, we tell you to stop. If you fuck with us at any level higher than 1, we go straight to 100 and knock you senseless until you surrender unconditionally.

You only have to do that a few times before people start listening when you tell them to stop. Then you have lasting peace.

I only had to thrash a few of them. The rest learned by example, and then there was no more tension, just peace.

=========
Except China forgets they don't actually have any allies in the region--and a lot of old scores yet to be settled.

The only way they're able to hold on right now is they are able to focus all their efforts inward.

But, facing an outward threat will expose their underbelly.

There are the Tibetans.
The moslulm separatists in the west.
Hong Kong would like to free their chains.
Taiwan will be happy to fund insurrections.
There's territorial disputes with India, Bhutan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and the Philippines--all who'd be happy to assert their claims.
To say nothing of at least 1-2 million illiterate, starving North Korean refugees they'll have to house.
And millions of middle-class citizens with their savings suddenly wiped out.
While telling millions of young men (who can't find wives) they've been drafted.

I say we build a heavy submarine with a docking cradle on the top of it, and if where it's moored is deep enough, drive the sub up under it, sink it straight into the cradle, cut the anchor chains, and simply cruise on out with our ship.

Just to show them we can.

161 I don't think the Chinese really care. Nor do the Russians for that matter. North Korea has been propped up as a proxy nation With the goal of deflecting defense resources and executing a Chinese global strategy.

The threats, test launches and really the attempt to launch a live missile suits their needs. They won't stop it and I don't expect them to get involved. It ties up our military and exposes out response capabilities.

This is much more dangerous than most people realize. The Nork's will devastate Seoul if we attempt any action. That their pawn. While we have some very good counter artillery capabilities it's not enough. Taking out command and control and nuclear sites is unfortunately best done with our nuclear weapons. There are not a lot of good options here. This is the result of years of failed policy because no administration wanted to make these stark choices.

One has to assume that a significant percentage are fully operational and in battle-ready condition. This is where the money goes. Everyone else eats tree bark and dirt.

But even if only 10% are operationally ready, that's still over 5,000 howitzers aimed at Seoul. Assuming we will have air assets to try and take them out, if they have 15 minutes to a half hour to lay down a barrage, Seoul is going to get hammered but good.

Any actual military people care to weigh in?

I know the Iranians are working closely with Venezuela. A few years ago, reports surfaced that they were building a launch facility just opposite Aruba that could strike the southern US. That said, Hezbollah has operatives in Latin America and they have no doubt infiltrated via the Mexican border.

JJ,

I think since the threat is nuclear, if that's what it takes to make yourself and your allies secure, then you go nuclear.

Limited, but I believe points need to be made to certain other actors around the world like Iran and China.

If you can do it conventionally in NK then go that route, but if you can't. Then nuke it is.

Remember, the goal of NK is permanent blackmail of the US just like they already do to SK and to a lesser extent Japan.

A couple of EMP nuke exploded over the West Coast would result in millions of deaths as a secondary result,

So, NK doesn't need a particularly accurate ICBM. Just one that gets the nuke to the West Coast.

If this threat requires nukes to stop, then it requires nukes to stop.

Hopefully, it doesn't, but it may.

278 South Korea should surrender to the Whoa Fat regime. Then when he does the Hitler in Paris thing in Seoul - a sniper team can end the problem he poses to the world.

279 234 If Phat Boi has one or more of his skyrockets targeted on our mainland, I hope at least one of them is pointed at Crawford, TX.

Seriously? Your posts are always pretty ignorant but that takes the cake.

280 My big fear of using nukes is that it then gives a green light for the Russians and the Chinese and everyone else to use them.
---
I don't think anyone who has nukes is particularly worried about having our permission to use them, the consideration is going to be whether the target provokes a response and by whom.

Russia nukes Poland, Trump nukes them, they nuke us and most everyone dies.

Russia nukes Chechnya, meh.

China, India, and Pakistan have some kind of mutual flare up, meh. Though in this case, the 'each other' would be their primary consideration.

281 "Fire and fury"? In the Acosta Administration, we will confront Kim with felicitous greetings and poetry readings!

Here's one I'm working on:

"I think that I shall never see/A poem lovely as an ICB."

282 A surgical strike against Whoa Fat himself seems the best choice, but
the chances of success on that have to be slim unless we can catch him
out in the open. I'm sure he has many nuke resistant (deep) bolt-holes
prepared.

And if we miss, Seoul gets it in the ass.
---
I'm not sure why a successful strike on WF doesn't also lead to retaliation against Seoul, given that NK is basically a cult for his family.

I'm actually less in favor of nukes against NK's population centers (which always seems to be the presumption when nuclear war is discussed) than against it's artillery and troop centers.

284 ...Seriously?...

He doesn't realize that W mostly lives in Dallas now.

W has generated some serious hate since leaving the White House. Some people think W smirked when he started detailing all the lies he told his base.

Karl Rove took all the heat before W left office.

285 J.J.,

The solution is contained in your illustration. We simply tilt Guam to one side to avoid the missiles--problem solved!

286 ...A surgical strike against Whoa Fat...

Destroy all artillery within twenty miles of the North side of the DMZ.

Destroy every moving vehicle South of the Chinese border.

Destroy every command and control bunker that is pinpointed.

Destroy every electrical generator in North Korea.

Destroy every missile site known. Destroy every dock that has been used to unload or load a missile. Destroy every nuclear facility. Destroy every military manufacturing site. Destroy every ship in North Korean Harbors. Destroy every North Korean Ship found at sea.

Surgical strike. let the starving people butcher and eat Whoa Fat.

Another alternative is to drop canned food and can openers on parachute palates all over North Korea. That wouldn't send a message to Russia, China, or Iran but the maker of Spam would be happy and would completely destroy the Whoa Fat.

287 I launched a load of Guam and only the ravens in the trees noticed.....next time "I AM" going ballistic.......

288 Personally, I'm not going to stress about Korea unless the Norks do several things. If they are planning a missile attack on Guam, only our satellites will be able to tell. But if they are planning an invasion along with that, they have to prepare for it and I've seen nothing that makes me think that is happening. Their army has to gather at certain containment areas in the southern part of the country in order to invade. Korea is a mountainous country and there are only three corridors the Norks can use to go south. Their AN-2's which would be used to fly special forces troops south must meet at airfields close to the DMZ. While the media said something about some anti ship missiles being loaded onto patrol boats about a week ago, I have heard nothing else about their navy. If they are actually preparing to go to war, we would see the obvious signs of it. It is not 1950 anymore.

289 I suspect that McConnell doesn't want to deal with Moe's "Freedom Caucus" types in the Senate.

I don't know anything wrong with Strange, but I will be voting for Moe.

291 538 is getting meaningless output because they are using meaningless input - popular vote totals are useless as a metric because the popular vote was not in play. If it had been, then millions of Texas Democrats and California Republicans would have voted. This would also have played out in states like Maryland where voting Republican is a waste of your morning. Point being, if the popular vote mattered it would be a much higher and different number than they are using.

292 Re the arty holding Seoul hostage, I'm seeing lots of analysis on equipment but little on personnel. Are they squirrelled away in underground bunkers? Could we kill most before they rolled out the hidden pieces? Thanks.

293 Star Trek phasors were toned down for the same reason that a squad of Boba Fett clones all mind linked and "luckier up" with Dark Force at the peak of power... couldn't manage to hit center mass at 25 meters.
Makes for a longer battle and movie.

Posted by: Fen at August 10, 2017 12:16 PM (uobEB)

294 I never understood that. If you read the books, the dark force paired up with cloned minds was the DnD equivalent of "only misses on a natural 1".... They sure rolled alot of 1s. Murphy worked his ass off in Star Wars.
