I was watching the CNN video covering Trump's statement on the Norks a while ago.
The media is like Marco Rubio when he was stuck in the debate glitch, just repeating rehearsed lines. One pundit says "The problem the President has is his approval rating. Polls show...." Really? The Norks are going to test fire on Guam and the problem is DJTs approval polls? Not thousands of nuked citizens. Not national security. Not nuclear proliferation. No, the problem is approval ratings. A part of me thinks when the nukes are in the air, a reporter somewhere will be huddled up with their house cat awaiting death mumbling "This is gonna hurt Trump's reelection chances." When do these people wake up and taste reality? Posted by: Political Correctness at August 09, 2017 09:32 AM (GQn43) 44

Kinkade gets no love in the art community, or at least in my experience, for this reason. His work is formulaic and "cute", but not a lot of substance. He's not "down with the struggle", either. Oh, and he had no problem giving the public what it wanted so he could make money on his work. Very similar arguments to Rockwell, actually. But where I mostly agree about Kinkade, I do not about Rockwell. Posted by: Kris at August 09, 2017 09:41 AM (nwqNw) 77

I usually enjoy Kinkaid's paintings and this is no exception. They are at worst pleasant to look at. His use of earth tones contrasting with points of brighter, or lighter, colors is effective. I regard them as a form of Romanticism, even fantasy. This one is more dynamic than most and evokes the delicious, serene feeling of protection and comfort in the face of nature's fury. The gentle golden light in the windows versus the cold colors and motion of the elements is very speaks to that. It would have been interesting if he had done some paintings of the Shire and Hobbiton.
I've heard that Kinkade was an SOB in real life. (No details.) Whatever. His scenes are lovely. Posted by: JTB at August 09, 2017 09:43 AM (V+03K) 87

Stages of Kim acceptance:
Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. We're finally past denial, Anger doesn't do any good (never really does) and we're into Bargaining. "Oh if some way could be found to just take him out...." Next stage - nope, no such way exists. Too bad. Depression. Things will happen when we get to acceptance - acceptance of the fact that removing Kim is going to require total deaths in the 20 million to 25 million range, a lot of American troop casualties, and a lot of bad consequences for as long as our children are alive. (most of the population of Seoul and most of the population of NK will be lost) There's no way around that, but we still aren't quite ready to admit that to ourselves. We pretty much need Kim to launch something at Guam to get us over the line. And that's why he has power, because he perversely knows that he can stand there, right on the line of what we will put up with, and taunt us endlessly. @155 The game plan, since the left has effective control, requires a crisis so they can purge the traitors. Like whatshisman in Turkey, Erdogan did; fake coup attempt and then a purge. Like Maduro is doing in Venezuela, fake coup, and purge. If they can provoke Trump into doing something beyond what most people will accept, war with North Korea and China would work, then they have a reason to impeach, and then the purge begins. It's a game plan as old as Marx. Probably goes back to the Romans. Posted by: Skandia Recluse at August 09, 2017 10:11 AM (m9X4Y) 179

The artist filmed her dive among its ruins and looped it in a dark room. Projected on the adjacent wall were slides of various descriptions of Pharos from the Past. The over a speaker you could here her scuba gear and other underwater sounds. It was very gripping. The idea was to link Past and Present, and to discuss the passage of time and what it does to memory--personal, cultural and historical. There were other themes too but I don't remember them. On Drudge, FBI did a predawn raid on Paul Manafort's house the day after he testified before Congress.
The search warrant was wide-ranging and FBI agents working with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III departed the home with various records. The raid came as Manafort has been voluntarily producing documents to congressional committees investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. The search warrant indicates investigators may have argued to a federal judge they had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all records in response to a grand jury subpoena. It could also have been intended to send a message to President Trump's former campaign chairman that he should not expect gentle treatment or legal courtesies from Mueller's team. So - aside from the fact this is from WaPo and could be anywhere from completely false to completely true - I think anyone who thinks the Mueller thing was set up as a stalking horse to exonerate Trump.... If they can provoke Trump into doing something beyond what most people will accept, war with North Korea and China would work, then they have a reason to impeach, and then the purge begins.

Even before becoming President, he was one of the most successful people in the world. "As for demented," I went on, "clearly he's in touch with reality-reality (not the warped version of it in DC, which he's going to have to learn about). He dealt with the reality of 16 competitors for the R nomination and trounced them all; he trounced the media's favorite, Cankles, quite handily; and he's continuing to handle the media the same way. --- I remember the media fawning over Michael Obama removing a tasteful painting from a room in the White House and replacing it with a target. Literally. It was a colorful bullseye. I think she put some Sanford and Son shag rug down, too. She was hailed as a worthy successor to Jackie O. I'm calling Bull-Shit, Right Here, Right Now.
The Washington Post story begins with stating it's all based on "confidential" information... That's the first clue. Now, Let's Play: Find a name In order of appearance: "Sources" "U.S. analysts" "U.S. intelligence officials" "Some independent experts" "many experts" "U.S. officials" "many analysts" "The IC [intelligence community]" The DIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment. Say WHAT? Looks like a load of bull-shit, to me. Posted by: franksalterego at August 09, 2017 11:28 AM (3cq8T) 362

Burn this hideous subculture of aesthetic absurdity and deception down and salt the earth. I'm done for today. I'll be happier with the dead: I do not have to wonder what they think.
