Emails Show that NYT, WaPo Colluded to Kill Lynch-Clinton Tarmac Conclave Story

"Unenthusiastic" about covering the story.

Reporters with the Washington Post and New York Times were apparently less than enthusiastic about covering the controversial private meeting between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton just months ahead of the 2016 election.

The non-profit American Center for Law and Justice published emails Friday that showed reporters asking Department of Justice officials for details on the meeting.

Mark Landler, a reporter for the Times, is seen in one June 30 email reaching out to a DOJ official to say he's "been pressed into service to write about the questions being raised" by the meeting.

Matt Zapotosky with the Post emailed a DOJ official the same day after several other emails to say that his editors "are still pretty interested" in the story but that he wanted to "put it to rest."

By the way, Loretta Lynch used a fake name in many email correspondences-- I'm sure she had no intent to break the law in avoiding FOIA disclosures.

Like her predecessor, Eric Holder, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch used an email alias to conduct government business, The Daily Caller has confirmed....

Using the pseudonym “Elizabeth Carlisle,” Lynch corresponded with DOJ press officials to hammer out talking points in response to media requests about the meeting.

Lynch's lawyer claims that this pseudonym was not an attempt to avoid FOIA, and that the alias was known to people who would FOIA records.

Mm-hm.

So then every request for emails by Lynch should have included at least some with this email addy before now but we haven't heard of it because???

I also thought the law was clear that to do government business only one email account was to be used, the official one, and that even having a personal account was very discouraged. Especially for high level officers.

96 The entire GOP leadership should, at this point, deem any unprovoked attack on "Trump Supporters" as an attack on the rule of law, denial of franchise and nothing short of an attempt to violently overthrow the lawfully elected government.

Accordingly, they should, and I think must, issue a special Act authorizing use of force in the form of the National Guard, in all 50 States, and that the Executive is authorized and should actively put down any such violence by federalizing the Guard, if local law enforcement does not immediately shut it down.

If it was right to escort children to school in Little Rock then it's just as right now. If anything, the insurrection is more broadly directed at the Republic as a whole.

This whole country is becoming a tinderbox because those who should actually be exercising leadership in defense of the Republic are completely failing us.

Who in the 8 years of Obama ever suffered consequences ( in government) for their misdeeds?
In GWB's tenure, some apparatchiks were given show trials ( metaphorically) and perp walked.

Actually, that's not how it went down.

IIRC:
It was embargoed and wasn't on either Bill or Loretta's official schedule.

But, some local, no-name reporter hearing Bill was in town thought they'd try to chase him down for a picture/story at the airport.

And they noticed Bill walking over to talk to someone in another plane.

And made the mistake of asking, "who is on that other plane?"

Blogs picked up the story as a "Ho Lee Fuk" while the rest of the media tried for several days to ignore it.

Sure, regular schmucks who vote D disagree about all kinds of stuff. I mean schisms at the national level. News organizations. Political groups. Think tanks. That sort of thing.

They are so enmeshed in lock step with this non-ideological "ideology" that really is nothing deeper than "destroy western civilization and seize all power". Posted by: Tim in Illinois at August 07, 2017 07:03 PM (sf2BM)

229 Actually I don't believe Hillary was even under oath at her "interview".

Just one of the jaw-dropping aspects of the "investigation" into just that one part of her crime-wave (violations of the Espionage Act and associated obstruction of justice).

What we (the country) needs is a solid, impartial review and critique of the entire investigation - from the AG's probably fatal limitations and guidelines that rendered it a farce from the outset, to every detail of each improper or non-standard grant of immunity and permission to destroy evidence, to every internal discussion preceding Comey's ludicrous improper and legally illiterate public performance last July.

As a preparation to conduct a proper investigation, to the extent it can still be done, with prosecutions to follow. At a minimum, Sessions should be able to deliver a comprehensive report that is credible, even if it excoriates living people in the FBI or formerly in the DOJ.

And the other parts of the crime wave - Public Records Act violations, and whatever bribery statutes apply to pay-for-play - should be fully investigated, prosecutions brought, and full info made public.

231 And PDT trashing Blumenthal is glorious.

Oh, but it's so contrary to typical Beltway decorum.

Right.

Which is why it's so glorious. Blumenthal is a vile toxic idiot, and while his idiocy is shared by a huge segment of the population, his vile mendacity still probably doesn't sit well with most people when they know about it.

Besides, if it makes GOP senators uncomfortable, even better.

233 Sessions talking tough back to the idiot mayor of Chicago over grants withheld due to "sanctuary" lawlessness.

That's nice.

But one wonders whether Sessions and the WH are serious about this most serious topic, and have gamed out an entire strategy.

Not enough to "punish" with pin-pricks like these stupid DOJ grants. And note: Chicago has sued the feds over this, and since the judicial coup is intact, not reversed, there is always a good chance the administration's powers will simply be usurped or neutered by a court, without reference to actual law.

WH needs to make a priority adoption of appropriations language conditioning *all* federal funding on cooperation with federal law enforcement in *all* areas. As with so many other issues, members of Congress, especially senators, need to vote - over and over again - to either support a common sense and overwhelmingly popular policy, or to oppose it.

Other key responses to the rebellion in lawless cities would be reciprocity - ending federal law enforcement assistance to lawless cities, including denying them info - and, finally, structuring cases to prosecute officials violating laws against abetting illegal presence in the US.

More than any other single thing, this is what Trump was elected to do. If he can't break the lawlessness and rebellion in enacting overwhelmingly popular policies, HE will be broken - as his enemies will rightly conclude he is essentially a lame-duck.
