And speaking of cowards and lazy fools, Google's "official" response to that anonymous internal memo criticizing Google's PC-driven totalitarian monoculture is a real hoot:

Google's recently hired vice president of diversity, integrity and governance, Danielle Brown, sent a memo in response to the furor, saying the engineer's essay "advanced incorrect assumptions about gender."

And what some of those "incorrect assumptions about gender"? She doesn't say. I thought maybe the Reuters piece might have just left it out for purposes of brevity, but I tracked down the text of Brown's actual memo, and nope, she never says. Apparently, she expects her audience to know what they are without her having to mention them.

But wait, it gets better:

"Part of building an open, inclusive environment means fostering a culture in which those with alternative views, including different political views, feel safe sharing their opinions," Brown wrote.

Wait for it.

But...

And there it is! The big BUT! There's always a BUT clause in declarations of free speech by SJWs who aren't really free speech advocates but who want to pass themselves off as free speech advocates.

Ms. Brown elucidates:

"But that discourse needs to work alongside the principles of equal employment found in our Code of Conduct, policies, and anti-discrimination laws," she added.

In other words, shut up. So her whole statement, translated, reads: "All of us here at Google are in 100% favor of free speech and diversity of opinion. Except for this guy. He needs to shut up."

Google engineering vice president Aristotle Balogh also wrote an internal post criticizing the employee's memo, saying "stereotyping and harmful assumptions" could not be allowed to play any part in the company's culture.

In other words, shut up. Like Ms. Brown, Mr. Balogh is not going to bother to engage the memo on the merits of the arguments, either. It's just WrongThink™.

Meanwhile, progressives want to address the problems raised by this memo by getting the guy fired, setting up industry blacklists of misogynists and racists, and death threats.

Because progressive.

My prayers are with the anonymous author of the memo. I hope he has buried himself way deep. Clearly, the knives are out for him. I expect that behind the scenes, there is a full-court press going on to find out who he is, and if they do, it's not going to be pretty.

Lastly, it's kind of creepy that Google actually has someone whose title is "vice president of diversity, integrity and governance". Other than being an SJW loudmouth, I wonder what the qualifications for such a position are.

Well, that was certainly disappointing. At first glance I thought it was going to be an argument against hiring quotas and a fixation on skin color, gender, religion or any other demographic pigeonholes rather than qualifications. Granted, there seems to be some of that mixed in as well, but nobody is going to take a single thing away from this "manifesto" other than the fact that you said that "biological differences between the two sexes" might be responsible for fewer women working in software development and other IT careers. If you honestly believe that something in the female brain renders them less able to code, then you're just ignorant.

I understand the pressure from the higher ups to enforce the progressive narrative.

But the voting habits over there (Silicon Valley) seem to basically mirror what they are preaching. So even in the privacy of a voting booth, it seems these people are buying into it.

Best I can tell, its a combination of being young and stupid, and living in parts of the country that are flaming Left.

But the traditional stereotype of engineers in technology firms "way back when" (like IBM, Hewlett Packard, Honeywell, General Electric, etc) was almost uniformly ultra conservative.

Just last week I was on the Google campus, taking out-of-town visiting friends there.

They have Google-colored unlocked bicycles freely available all over the campus, and you can just hop on them and ride anywhere - -it's a huge place.

Of course the bikes are supposedly reserved for employees but they rarely ever stop people to see if you are one.

So we rode our Google bikes all around, and peered in the windows at the SJWs laboring away at their hyper-capitalist yet extreme-left global monopoly.

Needless to say, you can't enter any building without a security badge. But there are lots of outdoor sculptures and picnic areas. And it just feels weird to be in the belly of the beast. A unique experience.

The big underlying issue is "faux diversity" being used to enforce political outcomes. Shut up, she explained, indeed.

Men can't on average be better than women at anything, don't you see. Which ignores the actual diversity in any group of people.

I'm not a fan of Larry Summers, but he was driven from the Presidency of Harvard for suggesting (as one of a few alternative explanations) that the reason Harvard had more men professors in math and hard sciences was possibly because men had a greater range of IQs than women (more on the high end, more on the lower end).

Today, in the modern world, there is ZERO discrimination in chess. In fact, just as in the corporate world, any female chess players get massive praise and opportunities and $$$ denied to men players of similar strength.

AND YET, despite all this, to this day, 99% of the best players are men. (Literally, exactly 99%: in the top 100 list, there are 99 men, and one woman [You Hifan, the Women's World Champion.]). And before her, in the previous generation, there was also only ONE world-class female player (Judith Polgar) amongst hundreds of men players.

That's pretty much the ration through time, in chess: Maybe oncer a generation there is a single female genius player, versus thousands of male genius players.

And it has NOTHING to do with discrimination. If anything, the discrimination goes the other way.

295 Not particularly creative in the STEM fields, but if you want someone who can follow directions well, use tools properly, keep things clean ... well, I've rebuilt engines (like the 455 in my Firebird) and 4-barrel carburetors. I'm not physically strong enough any longer to help in engine removal and re-installation, but when it comes to precision mechanical work, I'm quite good.

Prefer to work on something clean, though, like spinning yarn or maybe building a spinning wheel. I like, and am good at, things that take precision and carefulness. Darn good at QC work, and back in the DOS days, enjoyed coding. Not so much any more.
