The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"I suppose you've all heard by now that one of Google's engineers anonymously released a 10-page memo criticizing Google's corporate culture where contrary opinions are silenced. So how did Google management respond? They first proclaimed their commitment to 'diversity of opinion' -- and then they tracked down and fired the guy. I guess one of the job requirements for positions in Google management is a completely atrophied sense of irony."

Here is a link to the offending memo as a .pdf file including all of the supporting documentation that Gizmodo left out.

(h/t erstwhile gaming thread moron Zakn on Twitter)

By the way, Google's VP of "diversity, integrity of governance", who wrote that Orwellian memo about how Google values 'diversity' is also, get this, a big time progressive activist who worked hugely for Hillary in the 2016 elections. You can't read her tweets, though, because yesterday, her Twitter feed suddenly became "protected", i.e. by invitation only.

Regarding the Google guy, yeah called it about him being fired. I hope he has a good lawyer and has money saved.

Jeez, I could write a wall of text about this topic as it is near and dear to my heart...and because I run into it almost every work day.

Short versions, Progressives came into tech via management and HR. They don't care about making good products or making customers happy, they care about saying the right things. Very Orwellian, very Marxist.

That said, there are Conservatives in tech. Maybe even a lot of them. Just about anyone in a company who's focused on results or what works is likely a good guy. But the Conservatives rarely have power. If they're managers, they're usually lower level managers. Which is still useful, but it doesn't change corporate policy.

Linux runs fine on desktops and laptops. Not being a smartphone user, I will pass on that.

There are many different Linux distros, and they look different on screen, but the main engines are mostly similar. I use Linux Mint, because it was recommended as being an easy transition for a Windows user, and I rate that statement as true. Mint comes pre-loaded with office tools, a browser, e-mail client, media players, etc.

Now, apparently the guy behind Mint is a big Lefty, but what the Hell, I'm not paying for it!

Desktop-wise, Linux Mint is very friendly. It can be booted from a USB thumb drive, too.

Seems like the Google manifesto guy may have wanted to instigate a change, either by starting a conversation that could lead to tweaks in policies (optimistic option) or by publicly outing Google and suing (current option).
He filed a complaint with the NLRB about Google's HR practices, and will likely now sue Google, so he does intend to push them on this. Sure looks like he gamed out what might happen and planned accordingly.

Been there, done that, tasted the gun barrel.

Focus on stuff you like. Eat a steak now and then. Read or watch a movie you like. Play. Own a dog and love him/her back. DO things you like to do, not just stuff you have to.

Eventually the impulse goes away but you have to wait it out sometimes. Going to bed early sometimes does it. Or getting a rub and tug at the asian massage parlor.

Whatever makes you happy, scoop out some time to do that.

And if it weren't for the chilling fact that there's no way to really know what, if anything, is beyond this world and whether it's better or, more likely, worse, I'd check out permanently, myself.

The fight option was not going to work anymore... example.. my " tru- con " state rep voted for a tax increase for the state, a state that is bankrupt.

Whether he draws the correct conclusions is debatable, but debate is the one thing you won't get in today's culture. The progressive left/neo Marxist has spent the last 7 decades capturing the levers of culture in their slow march through the institutions for just this fight. Diversity is stated to be good in and of itself, but the left defines diversity to suit its war with Western civilization. There should be an argument about whether diversity is good, and then what does one mean by diversity. That Google's response was to fire this guy is mute testimony to the elevation of PC to the highest level of morality of the left. Has the left overplayed its hand at this juncture? Remember the massive pushback from Reagan. We need that now.

377 Hello, I'm sorry I got here well after Cavil and MP4 posted about their depression or road toward it.

I think I know where you guys are coming from. It's very difficult for even strong with-it people to look at our alien world and not feel a wave of despair. I think we're in the same generation and comparing our childhoods to what's going on today is simply frightening, and not in a good way.

Try and stay strong. I'm not the best example because of various reasons, but in my treatment some of my docs have told me to focus energy on what makes you happy. The world may be messy but that doesn't mean your area of it must be. It's very vague advice, I know, but perhaps it's also helpful to know that you aren't alone in feeling like this? When the world is going insane, it's often helpful to meet at least one other sane person with whom you can get mutual support.

At the least, I often wonder if the hard Left really WANTS us to go insane..... Why give them what they want?

I went Walker and then Cruz, but Trump fascinated me. He wasn't following the worn-out, stale, formulas and the prescriptions of the same loser ass-clowns we had seen again and again. He wouldn't curl up and apologize when the usual accusations came out.

Instead, he seemed to look forward to them, relishing punching back right in the teeth. It was refreshing - exhilarating even - to see a Republican candidate state that the American government works for the good of the American citizen and no one else.

If we are good little 'Rons and 'Ettes and keep our pelts groomed, our hobo culls sharp, and our Val-U-Rite chilled, we may even see a time when stating that citizens come first would be seen as a "no duh" moment and not an act of political arson.

Eric Schmidt quietly owns an entire company on the side which specializes in using Google's big-data methods to get Democrats elected.

(Rather as David Axelrod owns his own not-publicly-advertised firm that specifically handles Astroturfing. Except Schmidt's side venture presumably has access to the vast Google databases.)

Schmidt was also at Hillary HQ wearing a STAFF badge around his neck. So that makes things pretty clear. Insofar as Schmidt's firm may be getting to use Google data for free to advise its Democratic political clientele, that's getting into unacknowledged in-kind campaign contribution territory by Big G.

Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of the FEC. Also, yes, the modern Republican party has drifted far from it, but Teddy Roosevelt created the modern era of antitrust, and it's time for the GOP to get back to its roots on that stuff.

Built atop uBlock Origin, AdNauseam quietly clicks on every blocked ad, registering a visit on ad networks' databases. As the collected data gathered shows an omnivorous click-stream, user tracking, targeting and surveillance become futile.ad nauseam is effective enough that google banned it from the chrome store. fortunately you can still install it in under 2 minutes https://github.com/dhowe/AdNauseam/wiki/Install-AdNauseam-on-Chrome-Without-Google%27s-Permissionhttps://adnauseam.io/install this fucking addon. install it on all of your family's machines. get your friends to to the same

Because if you read it all the way through, you see that although the guy is finally starting to see through the veil, he STILL so wrapped up in the progressive BS that he remains a true believer even though he can now clearly see that the emperor is naked.

His letter is reminiscent of some medieval critic of the catholic church, who ever so gently, and in the most careful words remonstrates the holy see, but dares not go too far for fear of the stake - all the while proclaiming his total devotion to the faith.

They are encouraged by the powers that be to say whatever the fuck they want no matter how stupid and illogical and damaging --while they are protected from the same. it's disgusting. I'm 55 years old, and I swear it wasn't like this when I was coming up in the '70's. People actually got along better then--and this was not to far from the days of segregation.

Sadly, I have noticed this. Race relations have worsened since the 1980s. I think the Left shifted gambits when it became clear that the wheels were coming off of their Soviet Model Vehicle.

I increasingly do find myself saying "Deportation" to myself when dealing with what the less polite call "TNB", sometimes even under my breath, hopefully not out loud.

While the illegal aliens are a serious problem--a nation with "open borders" is one that we call INVADED, and the more thoughtful African Americans do have a point that they have been dislodged in construction and certain other occupations where they once worked by said illegals--I DO have a grudging respect for the "day laborers" I see waiting in front of the Home Depots early in the morning on the way to the office, especially when I contrast their behavior to that of the local "inner city" denizens near my office.

I guess this line triggered me: "Thankfully,

Why would I be thankful about that? That climate "scientists" are ignoring the scientific method and promoting a political agenda disguised as science?

Makes me wonder how technical this guy is and if he's actually good at his job.

Saw where Gab make him a job offer. Might be a mistake.

446 Ha. Bill went to Oxford, didn't he? So Grrl Power Chubbles was a legacy admit.

That's hilarious.
Posted by: Moron Robbie, Not Quite as Low-IQ as Michael Obama, But Not as Smart as Some Birds at August 08, 2017 12:02 PM (+fLLK)

It doesn't work that way. The structure of Oxford is totally different from an American university.
Admissions to Oxford are on a college by college basis (there are something like 33 colleges that comprise the university),* not central to the university as a whole. They doubtless recognized her name, and who she was, but more likely than not she applied to a different college than Bill attended. If so, and the faculty of that college did not recognize her name, she would not receive any preference.

*Oxford University is more like a federation than a unified whole. Think "states" under the Articles of Federation. Students in some subjects (mostly the arts, and some social sciences) have little or no contact with the university per se.

448 While the guy did a service in pulling the fake inclusivity mask off Google, he fell into a trap in addressing the issue of why women are not proportionately in STEM. Not his fault, but maybe if he just commented about Google's anti-conservative culture, he might not have been canned.

Indeed. He might have actually persuaded Google that they could hire conservatives in low-level positions. Like pets that can be taught useful tricks.

Alas, that sector is not is big as it used to be. Especially in CA. And THAT is why CA went leftward in the 1990s. We won the Cold War, and so the industries that once gave CA its conservative and patriotic voters, well, they folded up.

454 Google is a CIA front. Hasn't ever come close to making money.

If Hillary was forced to pay taxes on her extorted money the deficit would be a surplus for that year.

The reason Bill Clinton had a small surplus when he left office is that the Clintons had to pay taxes on the rent they collected from the Lincoln bedroom. Obama was the first Democrat to bring the IRS totally under Democrat control.
