More important, and still unclear, is if this WH will decide to actually engage in politics, on the big issues. Limbaugh correctly noted this morning that the GOP is "not afraid of its voters" - meaning they are confident they can rely on the implosion/lunacy of the Dems, and the trap the two party system is in this instance, to be re-elected in 2018 - whatever they do/don't do.
That's pretty clearly their calculation on failing to end O-care (that the most brazen and high-profile political lie in generations will not hamper them). They probably *can* count on their electorate not being smart enough to recognize how O-care is an anchor around economic growth (always THE top issue).
Next up: bailing on border security/rule of law when Congress has to do its part. Up to now I'd always assumed even the Dems wouldn't be stupid enough to do some shut-down theater in the Senate to block policies popular with up to 70% of the electorate (or more). Now, not so sure. The congressional GOP has confirmed it is harmless/useless, there's no sign either the WH or GOP will target vulnerable Senate Dems, the Dems can't go much lower in the House anyway given the partisan gerrymandering of that body.

I've been watching a lot of Columbo lately. Several interesting things he does. The first is, he is unflinchingly truthful, even when deceptive. If he suspects foul play, he begins by refusing to state point-blank that a death happened as suggested. He always couches the claim "sure looks that way", or "maybe so", or any of a number of other *highly professional* careful non-statements. "Is that so?"
More than that, his "excuses" are always truthful. It *is* his wife's 25th anniversary coming up. His nephew *did* request a boombox...
He also does not turn on his annoy-beam until he has reason to suspect something. There is a clearly defined period of initial questioning in which he casts about for a suspect, and then twigs to something, anything which causes him to doubt. He *never* lingers on anyone in their grief until and unless his suspicion has solidified.
If there is a funeral, he almost always goes to it - and I don't think it's just about sweating the suspect/s, I think he actually feels it's part of the process. Showing respect, affirming in his own way that he'll get to the bottom of things.
He is unflinchingly upright, even when it's not obvious.

Shark Week Jane! Something we coastal dwellers need to know. I can say that I am highly relieved that I was retired before this transgarbage started. If I had to sit through even one 2 hour training session (that as the battalion ops chief, I would never have scheduled in the first place), it would have been a short chaotic mess while the briefer left in tears unable to define the science behind transgenderism.

Well, this tranny moved in across the hall from her several years ago. As expected, the antics started - the noise, the screaming, the strange one-sided conversations in the hallway, etc. Then the tranny suddenly thought she was my friend's best friend.
My friend would complain about this person all the time, but be ever-so-careful as to not sound "hateful" and "bigoted." It was fun to watch someone twist themselves into a pretzel to try to complain about the bullshit while being all PC.
Then the tranny OD'ed and all the fun ended.

Could it be that, since Hillary was supposed to win and did not win, that deep staters had gotten a little sloppy and panicked that they might have left incriminating evidence behind. Not at all. I dunno about Mueller specifically, but I think a LOT of the Left's hysteria about Trump is driven a similar sentiment.

The GOP is - rightly - not afraid of its voters. More/less, they have shown they will put up with anything (Trump is the great exception, no other data points like him on the board, aside from Dave Brat). They can, and will, do almost nothing with the enormous opportunity that has been forced on them to help the country and their constituents. And be re-elected. Their money comes from rent-seeking or gleichschaltung-compliant industries. Their votes come from trapped/scared/lazy/ignorant voters who understandably could never vote for the toxic freaks the Dems have become.

I have two professional colleagues (a PhD and an MD) who have transitioned. One was born a man, the other a woman. Both of them transitioned by basically doing it over a period of a year or so. No announcement or anything. Just happened. No big deal then or since. Never really had any inclination to discuss it with them, and they really had no obvious desire to discuss it with me, although one has said that they were really glad I was easy to work with. Frankly, I don't think either wanted the attention.
Have some friends with an adolescent daughter who decided she wanted to be a man. Again, she just started hormones (no surgery). Decided to change highschools, as some of the kids who knew her as a girl were uncomfortable with her as a boy. Wise move: she was pretty upset by it all.
My personal experience with transexuals has definitely not been with the extroverted, flamboyant type. But I have encountered that personality style briefly and it honestly gives me the creeps.

I like the show a lot for its plots (while its overcharacterizations signal a show with a weak plot. All that crap is easily skipped without forfeiting anything.) One central characterization is the emphasis placed on stating outright the main character is genius. But geniuses don't go around telling their coworkers and everyone else that they're genius. Like this: I'm a genius, I'm a genius, I'm a genius. Every single episode.
The show I have on right now she's explaining (over and over and over) how differently from normal people that another top professor and her think alike. She wearisomely explains geniuses like her and like him do not respond the same way to tragedy as regular people do. So her regular thinking FBI husband does not process correctly the professor's weird reaction to his daughter's death, where he is main suspect.
It's lame. It's offensive to viewers who watch more than one show. Letting it slip is one thing while hammering the basis of the show wrongly this way so obnoxiously quite another.
Just show her doing smart things. And get an actress who can read lines.
The actress is actually dumb as a f'k'n rock.

Not to mention allowing one group of individuals with serious mental, psychological, and medical needs into the military opens the door for EVERY such group. If you can afford to provide surgery and on-going hormone treatments to deployed transgenders in the military, then why can't you provide insulin for diabetics, or maintenance drugs for AIDS sufferers, or medication for bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or other treatable mental ailments? All of which, I'd wager, are much less expensive.

Heinlein did something 'serious" with gender switching IIRC. I Will Fear No Evil. Also not very interesting. And Frank Herbert in The Dosadi Experiment does something wth it towards the end. It wasn't Dune, to be sure.
All in all, transgender stuff just isn't that good a plot hook, IMHO.

The commenters agreed (many of them still active duty) that the whole transgender thing was a bridge too far. They were really morose about what it was going to do.
My personal view is that when the politicians of a particular persuasion, saw how effective the military was in 1991 during Desert Storm, they started to devise all kinds of plans for screwing it up.
This is just the latest. And I love that Eric Holder's law firm made a point of defending jihadis detained at Gitmo. Because you knew that it was all about truth, justice and the American Way. Patriots, every last one of them.

Apparently a contingent of the female junior enlisted, the walking disciplinary problems who'd signed up for the money and had no intent of staying shipboard in the Navy for even one second longer than required, took vandalistic pleasure in ignoring the signs and flushing used tampons anyway.
Horribly clogging the waste piping, again and again, and causing enormous expensive maintenance and repair issues. Plus lines at the other heads.

And as for no urinals, I say good riddance. I had so many problems with the urinals in my berthing head I tried to get them taken out. Me and my guys had far better shit (SWIDT) to do than fix the twice-weekly clogs and/or leaks in the pissers. We rarely had problems with the shitters.
I believe the Ford has a vaccum system (allows smaller pipes and uses less corrosive fresh water), and the urinals for those are a maintenance nightmare. There's a special valve that opens the suction when there's enough fluid. Those valves are finicky and break a lot, and Sailors will still use them anyway.

One big issue with transgenders in the military is that transgenders are, by their very nature, non-conformists.
By this, I mean there are expectations that society places on all of us. One of those expectations is, if you were born with a penis you live your life as a man.
Transgendered people are "brave", right? What makes them brave? They defy societal norms to live their lives as they please. This is the very definition of a non-conformist; it's not some ignorant sweeping generalization of a large group of individuals.
Well, the military service needs conformists. This doesn't mean you can't have your quirks, but the fact is there's a chain of command that must be respected. They need to know that when they give you an order you will fulfill it to the best of your abilities.
If you defy societal expectations at such a basic, fundamental level, how can you really be counted on to conform to the expectation that you'll obey a command you might disagree with, or just not really see the point of obeying?
I don't know how effective this would be as an argument; it's just a thought I was kicking around today.
