I find it rather interesting the week's art seems to be on a theme of bridges. Please pardon the term, but bridges are liminal spaces--and for those of you wondering what the hell that term even means, it refers to thresholds and boundaries. In simplest terms, a bridge exists as a connection for moving from one region to another.
(Side point: The Romans considered this of great religious significance, appointing a priest in charge of bridges and their construction and blessing as the head of their state religion. A vestige of this remains today, as the "Pontifex Maximus" was later co-opted when Christianity became dominant--thus why the Pope is referred to as "pontiff".)
We're definitely in a transitional, "liminal" era now, so the whole theme is acutely fitting. What we're moving to...ah, the future's a tricky thing...

I'm guessing if one is currently in service and merely attempting to "pass" rather than currently undergoing HRT, one might be grandfathered (grandmothered?) in, but anybody trying to get an operation or currently taking hormone cocktails, OUT.
That's the most logical pathway when making a play on the "we can't afford this, just no" rationale, as opposed to the "headjobs, OUT" rationale.
I seem to recall seeing a mention somewhere of a book called "Warrior Princess" or something that was by a SEAL - very accomplished! - who went trans, but I think he at least had the sense enough to behave while in the service. Personal demons are kind of like that, I guess - striving hard for accomplishment a plus, having entirely insane bonus accomplishments in mind and low mental stability definitely a negative.

Seeing the bridges this week it struck me that bridges over rivers are rather like (but at the same time, not like) intersections. There are traffic elements not just across the river, but along the river as well. But irony of ironies, the two different traffic streams do not interact at all. As if they exist in entirely separate universes, and though the boat on the river can see the vehicle crossing the bridge, and vice versa, they cannot travel the same journey.
This makes me sad for some reason.

Without a strong focus in the scene, it's easy to start noticing the various details and perhaps think of the story behind them: tired from a tough day of work, just enjoying the moonlight on the Thames and the gentle sound of the water, what's on the barges and where are they going, who lit the lamps and who is still in the buildings, etc. A gentle, contemplative work of art.

The Navy is small enough to go back to all male crews.
I saw the difference from my first ship (all male) to my third (50 / 50 male / female).
There was no change in mood swings, but there was better crew adhesion under a good CO.

.I hit shore duty for my last tour when they started the mixed crews and they didn't work out well for the most part and the Navy is still having serious issues with pregnant women and sea duty.
As far as transgender goes, that's a non starter as far as berthing goes. There is a whole lot of hot racking going on now in the lezzy locker with just actual real women without throwing a functioning penis into the mix.

One: people are impatient for things to be done now if not sooner. I think that is the curse of the internet because large bureaucracies do not move fast and draining the swamp is going to take years. That is on one side.
Two: a lot of people in the bureaucracies are used to setting their own policies and are resisting the fact that change is being imposed on them from the outside. It is a long-settled habit and you know how hard those are to break. That is on the other side.
A lot of complaints from Left and Right are due to this warring of expectations, and I see nothing other than to keep pressure up but also to keep of good cheer for it isn't going to happen fast no matter what you want.

All the while, there are sailors that stand watch on the .50 cals or other deck guns that have only ever fired them once. I know exactly what you mean - I had one full free day in London during a trip to the UK last year, and I chose to spend it at The Tower. (Hard to pass on the British Museum, but I could only do one) I've visited archeologica sites, but it's amazing to go through a place that has been a living, working, active building full of people for over 1,000 years. And there's all kinds of tidbits - walk across a bit of lawn, see a marker, realize "oh, that's where Anne Boleyn's head landed when Henry had it cut off." Everyone who was anyone in English history spent some time there, either as it's master or as its prisoner.
(most surprising trivia - towards the Thames is an area called the docks, we were told it was built by Geoffrey Chaucer, and our group said "you mean the famous writer?" and the reply was "oh, writing was just his night job. During the day was Construction Foreman here at the Tower." Puts a whole new light on the guy)

Got to the thread too late yesterday to comment but saw that you mentioned the Louisianna, MO bridge over the Mississippi. Oddly, it was the only bridge under discussion that I've been on. John's last job was as plant accountant for the Dyno-Nobel that was right there. That bridge was part of why we lived in Troy, MO and John drove 45 minutes each way instead of living in Illinois.

All the Trans people who want to serve in the military but now can't could set up a new organization, called the Trans Auxiliary, or something to that effect.
A private, perhaps even Gov't funded, organization designed to allow Trans people to serve the Armed Forces indirectly, in a non-military, non-combat manner, without being forced to deny their own identity.
Or even set up a private contractor/security service like Blackwater or whoever, if you are Trans and really really feel the need to carry a weapon at work.
Just coming up with compromise ideas that might make the most people happy.
But I forget... they don't want to be happy. The want to be "better than you, bigot".

I only crossed it a couple of times and that was almost ten years ago so I (fortunately) don't remember details. I suspect it was the areas leading to the bridge, rather than the bridge itself, that had a habit of getting badly flooded in the spring to the point that it was sometimes impossible for Illinois residents to get home from the plant.

Based on nothing but gut intuition, there is absolutely no way in hell I see that happening.
They may not align perfectly, but they're not ashamed about it either. They just openly and publicly disagree with Trump. So there's no way either one of them would stab Trump in the back like that. The motivation just ain't there, I don't think.

That explains it. We didn't want to live in Illinois anyway (taxes, all the taxes) but the school in Louisianna was spectacularly awful and Bowling Green wasn't much better. Louisiana also hadn't had a building permit of *any* kind pulled in five years at that point and Bowling Green didn't have any housing for a family of six. We had really looked forward to John not having to drive an hour each way anymore and it was very disappointing to *have* to settle on a town 45 minutes away to have a reasonable school and even modest housing for a larger family.
