A federal court struck down the District of Columbia's gun-carry law as unconstitutional on Tuesday. In a 2-to-1 ruling the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit said the city's requirement that those who apply for a gun-carry permit must show "good reason" beyond the desire for self-defense or residence in a high-crime area before being granted one runs afoul of the Second Amendment. The court said the Constitution guarantees a right to carry a firearm for self-protection for the law-abiding, even outside of the home. The ruling is the latest in a series of federal court rulings rebuking the nation's capital for unconstitutional gun laws that stretch back more than a decade and include a half dozen decisions against the city.

Josh Bivens, research director at the Economic Policy Institute, says it would be catastrophic. Canceling the employer and individual mandates would, according to a CBO estimate, lead to 15 million people losing health insurance over the next decade. That’s not as bad as a complete repeal (32 million) or as the various proposed versions of the Republican health-care bill (22-23 million). Indeed, notes Bivens, the skinny repeal preserves Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid, the government health program for the poor, and “most of the people who got coverage [under Obamacare did so] through Medicaid expansion,” so those, the most vulnerable, are protected.

Their goal is twofold. It isn't actually about sexuality or perversion at all; it's about remolding society to extinguish any distinction between male and female.
First, it is being pushed because it is the opposite of normalcy in the society they wish to destroy. They define our society as being oppressive via "sexism", "racismt", "transphobia", &c. The Left to a large degree then define themselves by what they are not.
Thus society is axiomatically evil and oppressive, thus anything in opposition to it is as a corollary, good. They don't care about "trans kids", but are pushing it because it is a tool to tear down society in the expectation that a utopia will spontaneously spring forth due to sheer lack of "oppression".
Second, by disassociating the male "gender" from the male sex (and the female "gender" from the female sex), then any traits that tend to dominate or be explicitly present in any particular sex will no longer be distinctive because both "men" and "women" can have traits of either biological sex.
By emphasizing this new concept of "gender" and relegating biological sex to some mere superficiality, people cease to recognize differences in the actual biological sexes and rather see both male gendered and female gendered as co-equal spectrums, thus achieving the Left's vaunted goal of "equality".
Thus, by eliminating the concept of differences between men and women as biological creatures, the perception of different sexes meaning anything allegedly goes away, and according to Leftist thought, perception will shape reality.
Again, this isn't being pushed because of "perversion", but because it is a useful tool, and "trans kids" are being used disposable pawns.

I propose a study.

For the year or so that I was a member of MENSA, they were very big into "population control". It was one of the chief calls as a way that "geniuses" could "save" the human race. I found the elitism in MENSA muted but no less insufferable for its frequent appearance.
I know that Wells was very big advocate of controlling the populace of the non-Samurais, and H. G. Wells has a profound but not always traceable effect on American intelligentsia.
Sometimes, I think that is the elite's "solution" decades later. Make self-sterilization cool! Make non-reproduction "diverse" and make "sexual diversity" the only escape that a white teen from ostracism as a "white oppressor" in the hierarchy of victims.

I did a quick road trip over the weekend. My brother was with me. We stopped to get gas at a rest area, and ran inside to get coffee. We looked around and it seemed like every last dude in there couldn't count their balls and come up with the same number twice. Grossly overweight women wearing shit they should not be wearing, dudes who acted like they were on earth for the first time and couldn't figure out a coffee urn, or a soda machine, and people in general sauntering around like they didn't know where to go or what to do.

The eight years of Obama was a celebration of corruption and the money flowing from it. Everybody in Washington had their piece of the action. There was nothing to be afraid of since Hillary would be elected and the good times would roll on and on. Everybody didn't know of every corrupt act but everybody knew everybody was either corrupt and/or spineless.
Then came that horrible night.
What if the look on their faces was shock only at first, and then as the implications sank in it changed to fear. Fear would explain their actions since the election better than greed and lust for power.

As I am fond of saying, I REQUIRE food to live every single day. I can't tell you the last time I saw a doctor. It is conceivable that I spend more on food in a year than on medical care (for "health care" I go to a New Balance store; I do not see the doctor or go to a hospital when I am healthy). YET...is food a right?
Is water a right? I REQUIRE water every single day. YET...guess what? I have to pay for my water.
Same thing with clothing and shelter.
But the focus is on forcing people to pay for a service you conceivably not use a single time for years at a time. I'm trying my hardest to think of the last time I saw a doctor.
One more thing: the dirty little secret: want to bring down medical costs? Never use your insurance unless you cannot afford to pay for the medical care otherwise. Pay cash whenever possible. One time, when paying a medical bill, I told them "I'll pay right here and now in cash." Right then and there the bill was chopped by 70%. I suspect if more people did this, medical costs would drop.

Like some couples just stop having sex (mostly) after kids.
And some couples are doing it into their 60s.
So, I always took it to be a choice less than a sex drive issue. Maybe a bit of both.

Anyway, hard grinding electric guitar rock like AC/DC and heavy metal are good for certain tasks. It give you a sense of confidence and power. Hell it even causes a surge in testosterone.
With me, there's nothing like AC/DC when I'm doing something like welding, grinding, or real teeth gritting shit. Operating machinery that makes a lot of noise.
I can feel the difference.

I read about marriages where the sex still happens even when the wife was mad as hell. I have no idea what that's like. That's the first thing that went out the window at the first sign of an issue. And after a while, there was always an issue.

none of these kids *got* autism in their teens
they all *got it* as toddlers after being vaccinated
she has yet to provide autism behavior therapy to a family of anti vaxxers
in over 10 years
somebody needs to figure it out because families are suffering terribly
almost every family my wife works with the parents are divorced because of all the stress involved

Tougher call for those who wait 'til marriage (myself included supposedly), but I'm not sure I want to take that chance. I'd have to be highly confident she wouldn't renege on the deal.

This was actually the answer in post war Europe. So many men died that it became a lot more normal for a married man to have a mistress without causing all the normal problems that normally does....
Basically it appears society can be structured the following ways:
1) A "patriarchal" society that enforces monogamy and puts serious requirements on both spouses (the traditional west)
2) A society that kills off enough of its men through external wars that the surviving men are in a privileged position. (Europe post WWII)
3) A patriarchal society that allows for real harems/multiple wives where there is constant internal war (Islam).
4) A matriarchal society where women voluntarily put themselves into virtual harems/multiple wife scenarios (like we have now).

Yes, and like I said, there are some things I agree with.
But, the whole, "Eat an apple and put down the cookies" perpetuates a lame and archaic stereotype that frankly, in many cases, is untrue. It also doesn't take into account the mental constitution involve in weight loss/weight gain, the effects of emotional eating, as well as the cycle of shaming which begets hopelessness which begets lethargy which begets shaming. Not to mention that addiction to ANYTHING- alcohol, drugs, food- is an illness and should be treated as such.
As for me, I eat less than most people I know. I don't eat salad, because I don't like salad, but I don't eat boxes of ding dongs either. But, because of the "Eat an apple" society, a lot is assumed of me as a human being.

There's a psychologist, who studied "falling in love". He came up with a program. Get a bunch of complete strangers, male an female pairs.
Have each pair sit and talk, and tell intimate details of their lives to each other for 30 minutes. Then, have them stare into each other's eyes steadily without saying anything for 4 minutes.

That can really devastate a woman, for obvious reasons.

Get a certain amount of outdoor sunlight every day. I put running on my workout routine, just to get sun as a necessary side effect. I don't even do cardio, but the army taught me, against my will, how to run.
I suppose getting a dog that needs to be walked would have the same effect. Driving works too I suppose.

I didn't mean to imply that our marriage is in trouble - next month will be our 37th anniversary, and we are still very much in love with each other.
I was just pointing out that as a woman ages, her estrogen levels keep going down. She is out of menopause when her estrogen levels fall way down.
And we do still have our wild moments - sometimes they actually happen when both of us still have some energy left at the end of the day, and then it's game on! There is, however, much moaning and groaning afterwards, when we have to straighten out all of the old limbs and arthritic joints in order to get untangled.... ;-)

Our relationship with the dogs changed when we had kids. They used to be our babies, and then they became secondary. I understand it, and having lost a dog, I am not at all one of those people who thinks it's the same as losing a child, but it still hurts in a weird way.
I've seen some shit in my life, but I am not looking forward to what I have to do in the morning. This is not how I thought this relationship would end.

I'm amazed at the true friendships that can develop just by talking to somebody. Every month or so, I meet my favorite waitress and her husband for dinner. A lot of people are very lonely and are just aching to talk to somebody. A kind word to a cashier or waitress can change their entire.

My parents were married for 67 years, until my dad died of dementia. A little more than a year later, mom died of loneliness, still sharp as a tack. They has 7 kids (34 grandchildren), and did not live a charmed life having lived through the depression and WW II, during which my father served while having 2 kids at home. I remember those commercials where they start listing a bunch of "1 in so many millions or thousands" stats and then the last one was about being diagnosed with autism. In one week they had jump it from like 1 in 144 to 1 in 88. To me it sounds much more like they expand the definition of what counts on the autism spectrum than an actual increase.

The diagnosis has changed considerably. It used to be that a diagnosis of autism was about the worst thing a parent could hear. Now, they term kids autistic that wouldn't have even registered as anything before. There has been a huge change in the popular (and medical) perception of what autism actually is. Basically, if you push people to explain "the spectrum" they will come around to telling you taht everyone is autistic to some extent - which is of course nothing less than a sick joke. There are even certain "types" of autism that people seem to be proud of "having". That is a complete turn-around from what "autism" used to mean.
Interestingly, this seems to coincide with the movie "Rain Man". It was after that movie that autism diagnoses went through the roof. It's also notable that the traditional term for Rain Man types - "idiot savant" - disappeared overnight and was replaced with autistic savant, and not long after the explosion in autism diagnoses was upon us with the above mentioned pride even creeping in in many sectors of society.

I've worked with severely mentally handicapped kids. Kids with severe autism are nothing like some whining schmuck who opines about how being socially awkward makes them totes cook because their sooo autistic.
This is why I hate the put down term "autistic screeching". For a kid who is suffering from actual sever autism, it's not about feeling awkward, oppressed, or otherwise made uncomfortable. It is absolute terror at something painful happening and not being able to understand what the hell is going on. For kids who have actual severe autism, that "screeching" is the sign of a living hell.

If you are still interested there is a way to play most AH games online. Go to www.vassalengine,org and check it out. They have modules for a ton of different FtF games. 3rd Reich and A3R are a couple of the most popular games played.

They've taken something with neurological roots (if not understood) and turned it into your run-of-the-mill psychiatric determination of what currently constitutes a "fashionable personality", which is what so much of psychiatry and psychology really come down to. It has long been a problem that psychology was little more than the "fashion of personality" but that has also totally invaded psychiatry (to an even larger extent because of the myriad drugs available to make all sorts of personality alterations) and gone even further.
I wouldn't mind it so much - psychology and psychiatry are the softest of sciences - but when I see that the courts treat psychiatrists and psychologists as actual hard scientists with immutable data and clear theories ... it drives me crazy!!

See the notion of herd immunity. Due the dynamics of contagious disease, there is a critical threshold of immunization where the initial exponential increasing phase of infection is suppressed.
The basic concept is very simple. There is a parameter that varies with the disease and other factors dubbe R0, the reproduction number, which is basically how many other people one infected individual will infect over the course of the disease.
Now, if that number is greater than 1, the initial growth of the disease will be exponential. If less than 1, it will be a negative exponential. It will decay. There will be no epidemic.
If the number is exactly 1, then you have an "endemic" situation. The number of infected individuals remains constant.
Herd immunity is achieved when R0 is driven below 1.
Many people can't get vaccinated for medical reasons. And yes, in some cases, it doesn't work for that individual.
With R0 > 1, then you will have a breakout amongst those people. When R0 is driven below 1, there is no epidemic.
For most diseases you need 80% - well over 90% vaccination to drive R0 below 1.

Measles, it turns out, has a hellaciously high natural R0. It is somewhere in the range of 12 - 18. Again, that means one person infected with measles will on average infect 12 to 18 other people. It is extremely high.
And this high base R0 means the vaccination rate has to be well over 90% to drive the effective new R0 below 1.

Diagnosis is around years 2-3 usually which makes ultrasounds irrelevant as there is no way to determine if a child in the womb will be on the spectrum. Yes, the are more diagnoses now than 50 years ago as there are more behavioral clues to look for that have come from long term observation.

Yep. They thought they would be able to divert the military budget to providing snip&tuck operations, and now they can't.
It's all about servicing their constituencies while harming America's standing and strategic readiness. It's a double win to them.

shes been doing this professionally for 10 plus years
shes worked with dozens of families in illinois and wisconsin
*every* familys story is the same:
the child or children were normal developmentally and then pretty soon after receiving multiple vaccinations simultaneously they showed an almost immediate marked regression in relational and communicative ability
toddlers who were previously learning how to talk stopped talking altogether and became what is known as nonverbal
toddlers who would connect emotionally with their parents stopped doing so and stopped all eye contact
vaccinations may not be the whole thing but there is definitely something going on
certain familys with certain genes are reacting to these vaccines
something has changed
none of these kids *got* autism in their teens
they all *got it* as toddlers after being vaccinated
she has yet to provide autism behavior therapy to a family of anti vaxxers
in over 10 years
somebody needs to figure it out because families are suffering terribly
almost every family my wife works with the parents are divorced because of all the stress involved

That happened to my son. Normal development at 18 months, then got vaccinated and a week later had a very high fever, basically lost all developed skills.
Years later had him tested for Dravit's Syndrome which is an actual genetic abnormality. He has it. I wonder if there some vaccination/genetic interaction. The symptoms sheet for the Dravit's Syndrome read like they observed my son over the course of time and wrote what they saw.
Doctor's consider Dravit's to be and actual genetic link to autism.

2. As others have pointed out, the Eco article is shit. He blows it in the first item, saying that the use of "fascist" as meaning just "bad" dates from the 1960s. ??? Maybe, just maybe he might want to see what Waugh and Orwell wrote in the 1930s. Further, he doesn't seem to see that his claim that fascism is traditionalist contradicts his claim that it rejects culture. Where the hell does he think traditions live, but in cultures? He also seems unaware of the early ties between fascism and futurism. Oh, well, Eco was always a bit of a fraud.

.The comments I am seeing on yahoo and other sites are about 95% positive on the ban. Military people who comment are nearly 100% in support of the ban.

2b) I forgot to point out that though Eco does mention (in the NYRB article) some of the things (like futurism) which I say he ignores; it is still true he ignores them, merely brushing them away as appearances. .Pure sophistry. But of course, he is a bit of a proto-pomo.
I do get tired of our side claiming that fascism was purely left wing, simpliciter. While it grew out of the left, and never stopped showing its roots, it was quite clearly intended as a kind of "third way". The replacement of class by nation or race was a real change, and matters. As does the rejection of economics as the driving force of history. And of course, you cannot call Franco and Salazar "leftist" without doing violence to the language. (Those who do so are analogous to those who say FDR and Obama were "right wing".)
3b. I've studied it more, and more closely. I still don't see a pizza. Please don't read that as a complaint.

Yes, I see the entire left wing is freaking out about a transgender ban
in the military. Apparently from what I read from the NY Post article,
ones currently in the military can continue to serve, but there's a ban
on new recruits. I cannot think that undergoing hormone therapy is
conducive to being focused and disciplined-which the military
requires-nor do I think the military should have to pay for these
procedures.

.Here's the deal. Once you join the military anything that happens to you while you are in the military can be claimed as a service connected disability regardless if you are wounded in combat.
Example: I blew my knees out running around on steel decks for years. I got a 20% disability for that after three knee surgeries. I get that for the rest of my life and I get free treatment for pretty much anything I want at the VA if I want it.
If a pre op transgender goes in and gets work done, the Military takes responsibility for whatever happens to that person for the rest of their life if they can prove it was service connected. The way the law is written right now, the VA must find in the member's favor barring any mitigating circumstances.

Nationalism =/= Patriotism.
Love of country is patriotism. Using the force of the biggest power that a state recognizes to "solve problems" is nationalism. The Dems don't love this country, which is why they want to use the crushing power of the state created by the "Supreme Law of the Land".
People like Madison never wanted anybody to refer to the US as a "nation" (nation emphasizes ethnicity and birth (natal)). They almost universally prefer "union" or "republic". Of course one emphasizes sovereign states and the other emphasizes the rabble. The progressive could not have either one of those, and as the envied European states actually were nations, they chose to call our union of states a "nation".
The first people to call themselves "nationalists" in this nation were progressives, and the idea was to solve the nations "problems" with a one-size fits all solution which true believers can get behind, efforts that would be heresy to differ from state to state (like healthcare these days).
The American historical sense of "nationalism" fits a lot better with the extreme collectivism of Fascism ("Nothing outside the state", advised Mussolini). Think about what the Dems say about patriotism: Paying your taxes (funding the massive central government) is "patriotic". Not questioning the third-hand report of intelligence agencies is "patriotic". "Patriotic" is whatever serves their national agenda needs. "Wanting better for America"/(Not liking the way that America is now.) It's easy for fascists to be "nationalistic" because they believe in power to compel conformity and the state's ends.
Don't fall for the nationalism=patriotism bait-and-switch of the left.
