Adam Kredo Reports State Department Was in "Open War" With White House, Ignoring Policy Edicts and Hiring Orders

Maybe it's time to clean house -- finally.

The State Department under Secretary Rex Tillerson has been locked in a growing power struggle with the White House that has angered officials in the West Wing and sparked claims that the Trump administration's top diplomatic organ is now in "open war" with the White House on a range of critical issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian impasse, Iran, the crisis with Qatar, and other matters, according to multiple sources who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon about the situation.

The State Department is said to be in a state of "massive dysfunction," with top officials working under Tillerson ignoring White House directives on critical staffing issues and key policy matters, according to multiple sources, including administration allies who are said to be increasingly frustrated with what is perceived as the White House's inability to control its own federal agencies.

BTW, remember that Tony Scaramucci said he'd be having a sit-down with his underlings yesterday and would fire any leakers?

This FoxNation article isn't coming up for me, but the twitter headline is White House Aide Quits Before Scaramucci Can Fire Him.

But I can't read it. Maybe it'll come up for you.

25 Better than the earlier report, but still some key details are fuzzy.

Schedule C (political appointee) management defying administration orders, or career types?

There's a mix of both at many levels at State and most agencies, and exactly who is the problem and on exactly which issue really is important here.

Everyone can now reprise their denunciations/defenses of Tillerson, but I think they'll still be speculating on the key issues.

Hell - I think that's at least part of what happened to Sessions.

Trump got elected, as Tucker Carlson puts it so eloquently--by people who loathe the GOPe. Despite this Trump hired a lot of GOPe good ol boys and girls and now.....now.....Trump has a colossal mess.

It is all on Trump to find damn good executives who voted FOR him and who will FIGHT with him...ie people not referred by the
RNC.

Trump can very well turn it around if he hires HIS people.

Trump did what most humans would do ---he tried to make peace ....But there will be NO peace until , as Rush, says these weasels are defeated. And you sure as hell cant defeat them when you hire them to Cabinet level jobs.

This is why people move the capital to a new city in the past - to get away from the swamp which can not be drained.

My recommendation is to move State to Idaho - let them deal with the potato farmers and Mormons. Move the WH to some Trump Vegas property. Move the DOE to West Texas, Move the Pentagon as close to Russia as you can get - somewhere in Alaska. Move agriculture to some field in Kansas. In tents. Or maybe to the Central Valley VA, and they can live in migrant worker shacks.

Leftism, meaning Marxist-Leninism, is long dead and buried. There is no more "Left" per se. These people we call "Leftists" don't operate on any political ideology other than naked Barbarism. Either direct or indirect, i.e. "We'll smash you and take your stuff" or "I'll sit here and know i'm better than you, cheering them on while they smash you and take your stuff". Call them a hypocrite, and they'll look at you blankly like you just called them a kwydgibo. By their lights, they are perfectly consistent. "Smash You. Take Stuff. Where am I wrong? You're the one who's a hypocrite, because you still have stuff We haven't taken!"

177 I'm really getting sick of Trump blaming every failure on the "best" people he personally hired.

There are two concepts here at war in your mind, I think

Donald Trump, as the chief executive is responsible for everything his underlings do, in the way that, say, a lieutenant is responsible for what his platoon does. If Private Pyle goes berserk and shoots the Gunny, the LT is responsible because its up to him to keep order, discipline, and watch over his men.

But Donald Trump is not guilty of the incompetence or failure of his underlings. Just as LT didn't shoot the gunny, Private Pyle did.

So we hold Trump responsible for poor choices and their consequences, but we hold the people actually in the positions guilty of their incompetence and failures.

As I've said a couple times in the past: same thing with Trump's campaign staff. He had to clean up a couple of times, but when he did things got remarkably better. Its a learning curve and he seems to learn pretty fast.

When did he say he does not own it? Take Sessions as an example, he said it was a mistake appointing him and if he knew he was gong to recuse himself he never would have appointed him. Sounds pretty straight forward to me? And when he has lost confidence in someone, he fires them. Sounds like taking responsibility to me. Of course if you expect him to grovel for forgiveness, then yes I doubt he will do that

180 Trump was not my choice during the primaries. I worked for the Cruz campaign in Iowa. I saw Cruz as someone who had the ability to turn around the ship of state and hit the ground running if he defeated the shrew queen.

Trump started out ok, but failed to understand what draining the swamp would require. He has a tiny window of opportunity to get it together. I hope he surprises me, but not holding my breath. Had he appointed Bolton to SoS instead of Tillerson he would not be fighting yet another battle of the alphabet soup agencies.

192 Part of the media blitz going on is that PDT will not last. That he will lose, and so, if you are a rat, it is best to jump ship before it sinks.

Just look, daily on reddit there are three or four top posts about his poll numbers being "sad," about how he will be impeached, about how he is criminal, etc. Now reddit does not count for much, but it reveals the agenda of the Left's machine - they are trying to deligitimize him in order to make everyone doubt their security if they stand loyal to him.

This is an ongoing project from the Left. Look what they did to Judge Bork. Why? because he something he did to support a Republican decades earlier. There are many examples of them enforcing the unwritten law that if you help the Right, you will be crushed. Stalinesque, I think.

So I am sure all these people are being told very clearly that if they stand with PDT, they will be out of work soon and then punished. This is the thing, PDT was able to resist because he is brash and independently created. He does not need anyone. But the people he hires either have to be single minded willing to sacrifice for the sake of the country, or they are vulnerable. Even wealthy financiers know that the machine will find a way to punish them.

I agree. What was once the left in America is now just people lusting for power and control. They have no ideology left. They don't believe in anything. Every single principle they once held regarding equality, justice, tolerance, and democracy they have utterly shredded and repudiated and if you pin them down on this they agree and admit it.

257 A little late, but still.

Not really that late. I mean yeah in Political years its been forever but in real time... President Trump took office just seven months ago. It really hasn't been that long, at all.

I don't think Cruz would have actually won, but I know for certain we wouldn't be having these kinds of headaches had he become President.

Nobody can possibly be that ignorant. Donald Trump isn't the problem. Him not being a Democrat is the problem. The name of the person or what they did has absolutely nothing to do with how the press, the Democrats, or the Deep State reacts to Republicans. All that matters is that they aren't in power, and anyone between them and power must be destroyed.

The GOPe wouldn't have worked with or liked Cruz either. They hate him with the incandescent hate of ten thousand suns. He represents the tea party, he filibustered the ACA being implemented, he's the face of their true enemy, threatening their phony baloney jobs.

Good lord, they acted like Romney was the bastard offspring of Satan and Hitler and he didn't even win.

334 Trump victim script. Bring up Obama or Hillary. Blame Congress/GOPe/Deep State/MSM/whoever.

Campaigning is fun. Say a bunch of stuff, let people project views onto you, make vague promises. Governing is hard. Identifying a plan and pushing it through is hard. Speeches about it is hard. Apparently easier to babble about past victories (electoral map) and tweet about other issues. Blame Congress.

404 396 >>>... you say that like it's a bad thing?

Either give your subordinates latitude and adjust their course in private or give them guidance and hold them accountable if they stray. Right now Trump is playing the victim and not being a leader. I support but I'm not blind. At some point the buck stops with Trump.

Agreed, in principle. If that is in fact what Trump's trying to do, I'm not happy about it. But i don't think that's his game. I think the proverbial "buck" is still in transit, and Trump is realizing his team is not really on his side. The more time he can give himself to make maneuvers, the more choices he can give himself. It looks like he's shafting his own team to you. It looks like they're shafting him to me.

405 >>>It looks like he's shafting his own team to you

Six months of observation. Yeah, he's left members of his team in the wind multiple times. I don't expect it to change, but this is why positions will get hard to fill if turnover continues.

406 The Free Beacon is a noted neocon outfit run by Kristol's son in law so maybe this isn't accurate:

"Tillerson and Jones also raised eyebrows earlier this week when both claimed in public remarks that Russia and the United States share similar interests in Syria, a regional hotspot where the Trump White House has been vocal in its criticism of Russian interference in anti-ISIS operations."

That's not my understanding of Trump's position at all. It seems like the Beacon is attributing conventional neocon views to Trump which he doesn't hold. Trump said throughout the campaign that a) he wants to work with Russia in Syria and b) the Iran deal is a done deal.

407 i like scaramooch. He was interviewed by NY Mag , said in DC they,ll walk up to you smiling and stab you in the heart like Game of Thrones. Maybe some no bullshit new yorkers is just whats needed to correct the country like when Ed Rendell came in and saved Philadelphia.

408 "Policy differences also have emerged regarding Iran policy, how to deal with the regional impasse over Qatar's terror financing, and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, according to multiple insiders."

One side sides with Islamic terrorists and the other side doesn't. Fire those you can who side with terrorists and reassign the others to new offices at "Camp Barrow" Alaska, phones and computers not included.

410 I don't think Cruz would have actually won, but I know for certain we wouldn't be having these kinds of headaches had he become President.

We probably would have already passed tax reform and health care reform as well.

That's insane. The Democrats and the press (BIRM) would have acted the same regardless of who got elected, if they had an "R" after their name.

411 You know, Joe McCarthy was a tool, but he wasn't wrong about the State Department being a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

413 Preibus long rumored to be the source of leaks at WH, also a very good friend of speaker Ryan, and apparently was quite chummy with the departed Short.

Keep your friend close. Keep your enemies closer.
But not THAT fucking close!

414 The point is that you don't even know what Trump's healthcare plan is.
What is his Afghanistan policy?
What is his Syria strategy?
What is his North Korea strategy?

How about doing what is best for the USA? europe/asia/ south am come in way behind the USA for me. I WANT the president to pu t USA first.
