Swamp Gonna Swamp: Official State Department Report Suggests Israel Is Responsible for Palestinian Murders of Israelis

The Deep State doesn't care who the current president is, or what policies that democratically-elected person supports.

They have their own agenda, their own power sources, and a near-freedom from any consequences due to pretty-much guaranteed lifetime tenure and a political class too cowardly to put them in their places. Or better yet out of their places.

he State Department is facing harsh criticism for claiming in an official report that Israel is to blame for terrorism attacks committed by Palestinians and accusing the Jewish state of being largely responsible for an impasse in peace negotiations, according to a leading member of Congress who is calling on the State Department to correct its "inaccurate and harmful" characterization of Israel.

The State Department, in its latest annual report on the global terrorism situation, blames Israeli security policies for stalling the peace process and claims that Palestinians rarely incite terror attacks.

The claims are coming under fierce criticism from pro-Israel advocates and have prompted one leading member of Congress to formally call on the Trump administration to amend the report to more accurately reflect the situation.

McMasters, Tillerson, and Mattis should all be fired, in that order, with the possibility that the later two will learn from the first firing and correct themselves.

They're disasters. It's interesting that the Establishment GOPe took such comfort in the appointments of McMasters and Mattis, when most of the people I trust told me they were disasters from the moment they were named.

2 Not to interrupt the State-Department bashing, but from what I could tell from the article, the report was published in 2016. That would be pre-Tillerson, right?

I won't say he's set my world on fire, but I've never heard anything said about his competence before he took office.

6 This report is the predictable result of appointing an establishment robot like Tillerson Sec of State. Tillerson could have stopped it, but did not. Because he has been marinating in this establishment horseshit for his entire career.

Who appointed Tillerson? That's the guy you should blame for this disgusting report.

BTW, your orange-haired hero appointed Tillerson at the recommendation of --- Bob Gates, the uber-establishment SecDef to both W and Obama. Garbage in, Garbage out.

I agree! If the world's worst people thought Tillerson was a tough negotiator when he represented Exxon, what must they think now that he has the full force of the USA behind him? He looks like the muppet Bald Eagle, ffs! Mattis is just amazing. Every Marine got a moto-boner when he was nominated, and I have to believe that morale boost is spreading like wildfire. Etc. Ace's calls for their termination seems a little out of left field - I certainly haven't noticed earlier concerns.

I have no way of knowing this but my gut tells me this is more of a case of Tillerson not even knowing what is in this report than him actively participating in it. I've seen nothing that he has done to lead me to believe he would bash Israel and support the PA.

Sounds more like rogue State Department bullshit to me.

I was among those who harbored high hopes for Mattis. They've largely been dashed.

I was particularly put off by the comment by Mattis to Congress about how if they didn't fully fund the State Department's diplomatic efforts, there weren't going to be any cost savings, because they would be having to buy more ammo for DoD instead.

Whereas the reality is that the striped-pants popinjays at Foggy Bottom have, over the existence of their department, helped get America into a bunch of needless fights, and have needlessly prolonged needful fights.

We'd all be better off if State's entire arrogant brain trust of senior FSOs were put out to pasture, and the department shrunken down to a skeleton crew performing only the minimally necessary diplomatic functions. No need to have a sprawling foreign policy apparatus full of think-tank wanks if one "goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy".

87 I am disappointed by how few people have been fired by Trump. I mean that was all I ever saw of the apprentice was the promos with "You're fired"

But that said, Dubya did damn little cleaning up after BJC loaded agencies with commie trash and then Barky made huge messes everywhere so cleaning up government is akin to cleaning the Agean Stables (sp?)

If the bloody GOP congress would let Trump use a river it would help. I have been cheered by the bits of progress made so far (I watch a bit on OAN(N?) so I get a bit real info that the FNM would never let me hear since they don't want a Trump supporter hearing any news we'll like.

164 This is a retrospective report on 2016. It was published today.

A Republican congressman wrote a letter that was critical of the reports on Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

For example, this part:

Continued drivers of violence included a lack of hope in achieving Palestinian statehood, Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank, settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, the perception that the Israeli government was changing the status quo on the Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount, and IDF tactics that the Palestinians considered overly aggressive.

You may not agree with them, but they are definitely all "justifications" proffered by Palestinians for their terrorism. Just like Al Qaeda put the blame for their war on the US for US troops stationed in Saudi Arabia. Does acknowledging that they made that argument justify it or give it credence? Does it mean that you are blaming the US for 9/11? No.

171 >>Bullshit. Trump was elected to clear out all the careerists who have brought us to the disaster(s) we're currently faced with. He could have done so on Day 1.

Unfortunately, no he can't. He has fired quite a few people including just about all of the US Attorneys and very publicly the FBI Director, but they are political appointees. Once you get into civil servants it is a whole new ballgame. And look at the shit he is getting for dumping Comey who almost nobody likes, even the left.

There were always going to be bumps with both draining the swamp and having an administration that has some of the least elected governance as a group in one hell of a long time.

People need to chill just a tad. The left and the deep state have fighting Trump from day 1 with leaks and slow walking almost every single appointment. This was never going to be a 6 month turnaround. Six years won't even be enough.

191 If there is one weakness Trump has it's his hiring ability or rather the people he trusted to present him with viable candidates who actually want to MAGA.

Unfortunately, with people like Chris Christie on his transition team there are way too many NeverTrumpers in his orbit.

I think even he is shocked at the deterioration of our system. He most likely expected that once he was inaugurated a lot of this bullshit would die down and our country could at least function at least partially normally.

Now we've had a silent coup running for seven months. Even inadvertently aided by his own people - see Jeff Sessions.

Posted by: Peaches at July 20, 2017 06:13 PM (EgOr3)

205 I think what Ace is talking about is Mattis and McMaster are both still under the delusion that Jihad (aka Terrorism) is not related to Islam. Mattis thinks it has something to do with Shia-Sunni split and McMaster has flatly stated Jihadist have nothing to do with Islam at all. That it is a perversion of Islam.

Some have argued that they just say stuff like this because of the military situation they are in. We have troops stuck in majority Muslim countries, and if we equate Jihadist with Islam at the government level our troops will be put in more danger.

That part is true. However, and better counter argument is made that how can we ever defeat Jihadist if we don't make the obvious theological and historical connection to Islam? Answer is you cannot, therefore Jihadist movement in the end win over time using the "lets pretend Jihad has nothing to do with Islam strategy". To defeat Jihad you must confront Islamic theology head on.

I would argue that Mattis and McMaster are good military men, but are just wrong about the best way to wage the war against Jihad. Both are influenced by Petraeus, who thought that we could fight the Iraq war the same way the British fought the Communist in Malaya.

The problem is, and has been proven again and again, is Communist insurgences and Jihad are different beasts. Communist appeal to class, ethnic and economic grievances. Islamic jihadist are appealing to paradise in heaven and also to the entrenched Islamic cultural and religious traditions of the people in the area.

A few building projects and free apartments are not going to satisfy someone influenced by the Quran and Hadith to do Holy War.

210 I said on another thread that the one thing the Left hates is self-defense. That is the one form of "violence" they want stamped out. That Israel defends itself, that Israelis defend themselves is not to be tolerated by the lefty zombies left at State.

"Continued drivers of violence included a lack of hope in achieving Palestinian statehood, Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank, settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, the perception that the Israeli government was changing the status quo on the Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount, and IDF tactics that the Palestinians considered overly aggressive. I suppose the blame lies with his own loyalty. There weren't many willing to work for him during the primaries and he stuck with them no matter how incompetent they've proven themselves and their advice to be.
