Evan Sayet: Donald Trump is America's first wartime president in the Culture War [Warden]

This article was published a few days ago, but it's so on the nose that I wanted to make sure no one missed it.

In it, Sayet lays out for the left and #NeverTrump why attempting to shame us for Trump's lack of dignity isn't having the effect they'd hoped it would.

My Leftist friends (as well as many ardent #NeverTrumpers) constantly ask me if I'm not bothered by Donald Trump's lack of decorum. They ask if I don't think his tweets are "beneath the dignity of the office." Here's my answer:

We Right-thinking people have tried dignity. There could not have been a man of more quiet dignity than George W. Bush as he suffered the outrageous lies and politically motivated hatreds that undermined his presidency. We tried statesmanship. Could there be another human being on this earth who so desperately prized "collegiality" as John McCain? We tried propriety - has there been a nicer human being ever than Mitt Romney? And the results were always the same.

Sayet continues with a list of outrages and abuses from the left and wraps up nicely with this blunt bit of political realism.

So, to my friends on the Left - and the #NeverTrumpers as well -- do I wish we lived in a time when our president could be "collegial" and "dignified" and "proper"? Of course I do. These aren't those times. This is war. And it's a war that the Left has been fighting without opposition for the past 50 years.

So, say anything you want about this president - I get it, he can be vulgar, he can be crude, he can be undignified at times. I don't care. I can't spare this man. He fights.

One thing that I'd like to add as a further refutation of the What about puh-puh-puh principles?!! line of thought (and frankly, this just occurred to me) is that not only have we been facing asymmetrical warfare from our domestic enemies, we are also facing it from an enemy that is stronger than us and growing more so by the day.

Who controls the institutions in this country? The left does. All of them--the media (both news and entertainment), the schools, the government bureaucracy, the upper ranks of our military, most of the politicians, Wall Street, and all of our corporations.

They've pretty much got it all except for some of our churches. Their power is a massive, widespread, and crushing.

Our military does a fine job fighting asymmetrical battles with ruthless terrorists, but that's because it has more money, better technology and superior training. Now imagine ISIS with its same vicious methods if it were both better funded and had more fighters than the United States.

That's what we're up against--terrorism from an opponent more powerful than us. And no, I'm not using that word rhetorically. They are literally engaging in terrorism, both physical and psychological to intimidate and silence opinions that they find disagreeable-- a list which, by the way, is ever changing and expanding.

Principles are fine things to have. I have them and they're important to me.
More important, however, is my survival and my stubborn will to not be treated as a second class citizen simply for having a mostly traditionalist and non-authoritarian mindset.

There is a now obsolete term that was used maybe as recently as 20 years ago in a derogatory manner by those on the right. That term is "bleeding heart liberal."

It's not an accident don't hear people say those words anymore. That word, you see, no longer applies. The people we attached it to, to the extent that they ever did exist, exist no longer. Gone are the days of the well-intentioned, do-gooder liberal who just doesn't understand economics or incentives, replaced with the bullying, loud-mouthed authoritarian who is happy to see you lose your livelihood for the crime of disagreeing with him.

Our avatar for the left used to be Meathead from All in the Family. Today it's the Antifa bike lock psycho--a university ethics lecturer mashing people on the head with a deadly weapon simply for expressing their God given right to peaceable assembly and free speech.

This is a different world now. Or maybe, we're finally just perceiving it correctly. As I said in an earlier post, it isn't one that I wish to live in.

But it's where we are and what we have.

And so, Trump--now, next week, next year, next election and without apology.

Update: Dignity, y'all. Dignity.

24 Good I was hoping you'd post on this. Evan Sayet is very discerning and perceptive, I've long liked his examination of issues and topics. I think he's dead on here. The culture wars never went away, the left just assumed they won and went full speed ahead. This is the strike back by sane people, using the ugliest weapon we could find.

Gone are the days of the well-intentioned, do-gooder liberal who just doesn't understand economics or incentives, replaced with the bullying, loud-mouthed authoritarian who is happy to see you lose your livelihood for the crime of disagreeing with them

Exactly. They don't even pretend to be fore equality, tolerance, and love any more. Those hippies who still hold to that stuff? Have no party any longer. But a coalition with them can be built by being the party of common sense good neighbor and tolerance. Democrats are bitter, shrill, angry, violent, hateful, and filled with spewing filth in their language. Its written all over their faces, a mix of contempt and sadism. Its ugly as hell.

43 It's weird that the left thinks Trump is coarse.

Wasn't it Obama who welcomed rappers as guests in The People's House? The Obama's fell all over themselves to fawn over Beyonce. Ever see one of her concerts? Pure vulgarity.

Trump never shows up unless he's wearing a jacket and tie and our First Lady is pure elegance. Compare and contrast with the former first couple.

Also, Trump entertains guests of the White House with customs and traditions of their own culture and he approaches those he meets abroad in the same manner. This is consideration and graciousness. The left hates him because he is NOT them . He is on OUR side.

May God. Bless President Trump.

Posted by: RondinellaMamma at July 18, 2017 07:40 PM (s20zb)

44 1) A culture that includes Bill Clinton, in any capacity, has long forfeited the right to talk about dignity.

2) The NeverTrump right has talking points at least as vil as anything the left puts out- to the extent they are different things at all. A group with Evan McMullin in it doesn't have principles, except their own financial well being.

3) Who cares what NeverTrumpers think? They have a media presence, but that is because of rich interests that keep funding them. They are the enemy- one with no credibility in modern America, but the enemy nonetheless.

The Derp State is tyrannical, but it helps that their naked grab at power comes at the moment of their lowest credibility. They believe 2016 was their nadir.

I believe the next four years will disprove that.

66 I don't think they're trying to convince the right, except for maybe a small minority of it, its seems more of theater for the somewhat apolitical types. The people that don't follow or care much about politics but love the idea of the president as "American royalty", the ones who see heads of state as something glamorous, rather than a position of service to their country. Exactly the types that were drawn in by the stagecraft of the Obama campaign.

Even if they don't vote, they can release polls that claim the "average voters" dislike Trump, wish he wouldn't use twitter, don't approve of his performance, and on and on. It's propaganda designed to create the narrative. And they will repeat the narrative and keep it alive as long as possible, in the hopes of converting it into electoral success.

On the eve of the election, I said something along these lines to my husband... As Lincoln said of Grant, "He fights." It's that simple. There just is not anyone else on the more conservative side of things who has the combination of *ahem* intestinal fortitude, thick skin and media/weasel savvy even to come close to managing the current political climate. That Trump is still standing, let alone making headway in following through on what he said he would do if elected is quite an accomplishment.

So fuck nice. Enjoy Trump.

And once again, the left should refrain from playing this game. I like democracy and non-violence, but we all have breaking points. When the right collectively reaches ours, we will be armed with much more than bike locks.

And forget about that baseball shooter loser. That was atrocious, but so was his marksmanship. He got the jump on a bunch of unarmed people with a rifle and killed no one, and got taken out by officers with handguns? What a fucking shitbag.

Lastly, don't write off the military, please. I know everyone is freaked out by the official Army tranny training, but I don't know where that came from, and everyone I know thought it was a joke. I don't agree that the upper ranks are too polluted with liberals, but even if they were, the military's heart and soul is its lower ranks. It must have suddenly gone mainstream because it's a new comparison for me. I like it!

156 I don't agree that the upper ranks are too polluted with liberals, but even if they were, the military's heart and soul is its lower ranks. And while that area might not be as monolithic as say academia, it is pretty damn conservative.
Posted by: CPT11A at July 18, 2017 08:03 PM (hsYBB)

That is basically my read from The Blue Side and even more so from The Green Side. And Much of the "Upper Ranks" is still pretty conservative until you get into the Flag Ranks...which is, as you know, all to political for my tastes

157 Maybe its a day/night thing or something. I've seen the Caddy Shack thing here forever referring to Trump (usually with Smails being someone like Jeb or another prominent never trumper, all huffy and filled with high dudgeon that someone like HIM is allowed in the clubhouse).

160 That word, you see, no longer applies. The people we attached it to, to the extent that they ever did exist, exist no longer. Gone are the days of the well-intentioned, do-gooder liberal who just doesn't understand economics or incentives

>>>

Those people still exist - I have an aunt and uncle who fit that description. But most of the "bleeding hearts" are middle-aged or elderly, and they certainly aren't the voice of the Left these days.

Posted by: Aunt Luna at July 18, 2017 08:07 PM (Zd2ZF)

161 I don't know about the specifics to which you're referring, but I'm pretty damn sure that Rush Limbaugh has lifted from Ace without attribution.
That was years ago. I don't listen to him any longer.
One thing that cracks me up is Mark Levine giving "hat tips" to blogs. I respect his attribution, but I always think, "Hat tip? What is this, 1994?"

Yes. Gutfled is another in that mold. A lot of them read here bc we are crude and funny but their professional personalities won't allow them to admit reading here. Our side has very little in the way of real creative and comedic talent. I know Ace doesn't care, but he always makes a point of crediting others and goes so far as to stop short how much he is willing to quote other writers and asks us to go to the link and read the whole thing. Others should do that.

172 There could not have been a man of more quiet dignity than George W. Bush as he suffered the outrageous lies and politically motivated hatreds that undermined his presidency. 174 I understand the sentiment but attitudes like this, where we have to constantly remind people that, "Gosh, I don't like this." is a great way to continue to lose.
**********

Not really. And I'm perplexed why so many people have such a problem with me saying, "Well, I don't love that this is our only option," while recognizing that we don't have a choice.

You can be committed to a course of action while acknowledging that the situation isn't to your liking.

To use an extreme analogy, I wouldn't relish the thought of putting a bunch of hollow points into a home intruder, but you bet your ass that I'd do it.

175 And once again, the left should refrain from playing this game. I like democracy and non-violence, but we all have breaking points. When the right collectively reaches ours, we will be armed with much more than bike locks.

I was talking to somebody last week about that. They said "but the left is so violent". I said you haven't seen violent until you see somebody fight for his homeland.

Then somehow the conversation turned to social media.

I said look, fuck social media, let antifa have all you tube vids they want, our side will be slitting their leaders throats over a gold bowl on national television from a captured TV station.

177 They, the left, don't have everything. What they do have is the top layer of most of those institutions. They did it by making those who got the advanced degrees, which are the key to being hired for the top positions, something that only those selected for their political loyalty to the cause would get. Below that top layer they are not so well represented.

And they tend to always hire their brothers-in-ideology as their deputies so over time they can fill more and more of the organization. The colleges started doing this back in the late 60s and now are very full left.

This way works best when the organization doesn't have to produce tangible results and/or people once hired can't easily be let go.

If we win this culture war--it has been more genocide than combat until recently--no figure will have been more important than President Trump. The Left simply is totalitarian and Never Trump the cowardly collaborators who always pop up in any conflict (they must be the first ones destroyed, too, and it seems to be playing out). The masses remain against their insanity, even if the degenerate monsters control the institutions. It is a winnable fight and we have see that now, and we weren't supposed to ever see it.
