NRA Releases Blistering Attack Ad Against... the Washington Post

I take some comfort in this.

More people are getting it that this is not business-as-usual any longer; the left is heartbroke and crazed over having lost an election they thought they'd fixed, and they don't intend to lose another one. Ever.

It's good that people are starting to understand this isn't politics any longer; this is about whether democracy will even be allowed to continue.

6 I'm all for attacking the media relentlessly, I still can't believe it took Donald Trump before the Right figured out that the media was always the #1 enemy and we needed to bludgeon them.

Instead we kept thinking we needed the perfect Reagan that never made a silly gaffe or had anything unseemly in their past and got chummy with these bastards.

I will say though I would like to see a Trump Presidency that was a little more interested in racking up some legislative victories.

And really, it has to be coming from Bezos.

The WP was always liberal, but it was a sort of respectable institution. Now its like the Huffington Post.

And Bezos seemed to have libertarianish instincts.

I'd love Trump to go after Amazon on antitrust issues. Same with Google and the rest of the Silicon Valley oligarchs that are attempting a coup nearly every day.

29 It is actually very sad to see what has happened to the Washington Post and New York Times in particular. CNN didn't really have that far to fall but these institutions really used to be respectable sources of hard-hitting, quality investigation and reporting. They always had their leftward tilt but up to 2005 were pretty straight on and would hit both sides. In the last decade, they've really gone off the rails and in particular this year specifically have deliberately gone crazy.

I mean, both papers specifically had editorials stating that they were officially abandoning all semblance of journalistic standards to destroy Donald Trump.

56 I gave up on the Republican party after the disastrous 2015 omnibus bill
where the loser minority party got everything they wanted.

Actually,
it really started before that, when they tried to foist another
moderate Bush onto us. I was so sickened at the prospect of the GOPe
once again putting their lackey on top that I stopped following politics
for months. It literally made my stomach churn just thinking about it,
and so I just tuned it all out. It wasn't until Trump came along that I
started paying attention again, and only for the spectacle of him
ruining the GOPe's perfect plans.

And then Trump started
fighting back against these assholes tooth and nail. He said and
defended common sense things like securing our borders and killing bad
trade. He fought back against the msm smears, and never once gave in to
their criticisms. When they tried all of their usual tactics to silence
us, Trump just stuck his middle finger in the air and said 'Fuck You'.

And damn did that feel good, to have someone fighting for US for a change.

It was Trump, and ONLY Trump, that brought me back.

My
point to all this is this; If these GOPe mother fuckers think I'm going
to vote for them as they resist our president, then they will be in for
quite a shock in 2018. I will stick with Trump, so long as he continues
to try and implement his agenda. But if GOP can't implement what we
elected them to do, then I WILL NOT place my faith in these assholes
again.

Even if that means sitting home in 2018. IMO, it no
longer makes any difference which letter is next to the name anymore. At
least the dems have the decency to attack me from the front, instead of
behind my back.

Someone the other day said they had been in the Balkans and elsewhere and we were not anywhere close. Yeah, well, I've been in plenty of places where there are soldiers everywhere in and out of uniform with automatic weapons and you keep your head down and your mouth shut.
You get to that point when one group of citizens decides another group is a danger and is disposable. That's what I've been hearing for about 25 years. "Can't happen here" is for people that didn't listen to about 75% of Obama's speeches. His supporters are still about half the country.

Now I know how corrupt the FNM is, but I am still "seriously?, you think it is a good idea to spin this web of lies to try to undo the will of 60 million Americans who are largely the producers of this country? and are by and large the group that takes advantage of the 2nd amendment?"

95 39 Bezos may be a raging liberal asshole but it would be damn hard to hit Amazon on anti-trust issues. They are mostly a reseller for other people.
Posted by: Vic We Have No Party

______

Who cares. let them fight that out in court and in public opinion.

But Amazon is basically putting retail under and their profit margin is something ridiculous like .01%.

If you look at how much money amazon has actually made in profit, its trivial.

Their goal is put everyone else under and then own all commerce.

Oh, and Bezos also wants to own media, politics and culture while he's at it.

What the old adage about capitalists willing to sell the rope to their own hanging? Swap the word conservative in there.
Posted by: Maritime at July 18, 2017 05:41 PM (/N6Ju)

This is a perfect example of how the United States is based on total hypocrisy. Americans constantly lie to themselves and the world about how much they love success. The reality is that nothing fills an American with more rage than success.

For instance, Walmart. Americans had no problem with Walmart until they became the #1 retailer. Now Walmart is America's #1 problem and enemy.

Mr. Bezos better keep in mind that for all the reasons outlined above, that America's long knives are coming for HIM. In the United States, WE DO NOT TOLERATE SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT. (You can argue with me all you want about how that isn't true, but if it isn't, ask yourself how we have the political class that we have. Among other indicators.) Amazon will soon become a TARGET and America WILL DESTROY IT.

1. SW Shield

2. Glock 43

3. Walther PPS model 2

3 1/2. Glock 19 if you can do doublestack.
.
.
.I have three of those...the Glock 43, SW Shield and the Walther PPS (mine is Gen 1 with the magazine release on the paddle though) and any of them are good carry guns.

But if I had to choose just one, it would be the Shield. Best trigger of the bunch.

It takes a bit of grip strength to do a press check, but not as much as you might think, at least for light pistols. Some pistols have super heavy springs but they're in the minority.

The biggest factor is size. Smaller guns are harder to control but easier to conceal. If you want smaller, the LC9s prois great...Small, decent capacity, low price and good stock trigger.

Glock, XD, M&P all have good options in the next couple sizes up in the polymer, striker fired department.

CZ has a traditional, steel RAMI which is nice but heavy. They have other "carry" models which are longer (P 01, PCR).

The taxpayer subsidizes the mail service. The USPS is largely a government funded junk mail delivery service. It operates at a loss and those losses keep piling up. It is illegal for any delivery service besides the USPS to deliver to a mailbox.

Their losses would be massive without junk mail and Amazon. Amazon does not need the USPS. The USPS needs Amazon.

I don't care if UPS or the USPS delivers my package. It's a 50/50 split anymore. Which tells me that the USPS is competitive, but not necessarily cheaper.

Short answer is 'friction' ramming the ball into the muzzle should create a good seal to keep ball and powder in.

Long answer is...sometimes the ball falls out. Which happened to some fairly famous folks, some of whom died shortly afterwards.

226 OK this what I found. I was only partially right and Vic (who was there at the time recovering from PTSD suffered during Roman Empire vs African war) was right:

The Weimar democracy proved unable to cope with national despair as unemployment doubled from three million to six million, or one in three, by 1932. The existing "Great Coalition" government, a combination of left-wing and conservative parties, collapsed while arguing about the rising cost of unemployment benefits.
Reich president Paul von Hindenburg's advisers persuaded him to invoke the constitution's emergency presidential powers. These powers allowed the president to restore law and order in a crisis. Hindenburg created a new government, made up of a chancellor and cabinet ministers, to rule by emergency decrees instead of by laws passed by the Reichstag. So began the demise of the Weimar democracy.
Heinrich Brüning was the first chancellor under the new presidential system. He was unable to unify the government, and in September 1930, there were new elections. The Nazi Party won an important victory, capturing 18.3% of the vote to make it the second largest party in the Reichstag.

Hindenburg's term as president was ending in the spring of 1932. At age 84, he was reluctant to run again, but knew that if he didn't, Hitler would win. Hindenburg won the election, but Hitler received 37% of the vote.
Germany's government remained on the brink of collapse. The SA brownshirts, about 400,000 strong, were a part of daily street violence. The economy was still in crisis. In the election of July 1932, the Nazi Party won 37% of the Reichstag seats, thanks to a massive propaganda campaign. For the next six months, the most powerful German leaders were embroiled in a series of desperate political maneuverings. Ultimately, these major players severely underestimated Hitler's political abilities.

The Brüning Government, 1930–32
Chancellor Brüning ruled alongside President Hindenburg, using the emergency powers of Article 48.
This government did not suceed in solving the problems, and Brüning wasn’t popular. Von Schleicher, a general in the army, managed to persuade President Hindenburg to get rid of Brüning. He resigned in May 1932.
The Von Papen Government
Von Papen, at the time a member of the Centre Party, became Chancellor. He only had 68 supporters in the Reichstag. He hoped to win more support in the 1932 election, but he was disappointed. The largest party in the Reichstag was the Nazi party. Hitler wanted to be appointed Chancellor.
Hindenburg supported Von Papen. The Reichstag decided to hold a vote to decide whether or not they would also support Von Papen as Chancellor. He won 32 votes – but 513 had voted against him.
In March 1932 Hitler stood against Hindenburg as President of Germany. He gained 13.4 million votes but Hindenburg won with 19.3 million.
Von Papen organised another election in November. The support for Von Papen in this election was even less.
The Von Schleicher Government
He was Chancellor for two months. Hindenburg had no choice, and on 30 January 1933, he appointed Hitler as Chancellor.

227 In CT you are required to pass a multi week NRA gun safety course to get a hunting license. It was one of the finest courses, and I learned a ton about wildlife.

CT hoped this would discourage hunting and gun ownership, but the reality is that the regs have created lifetime NRA members.

They also act like any criticism of them is an attack on the First Amendment. They can tear apart the lives of people everyday and not just the powerful, but people like Joe the Plumber, and that's fine. They want criticism of them limited to Howie Kurtz saying tsk, tsk, tsk every so often.

Every week the evaluation usually went one way: We fucked up. Again.

Week after week. Year after year. Decade after decade. Shitty coverage. Hysterics. Rumor. Innuendo. Failure.

The news you can trust! Not like those other lying asswipes. You can trust us. Serious you guys. You trust us, right? RIGHT??

Most of my packages from Amazon are delivered by UPS and not the US mail. They do the small stuff.

Many of mine start out UPS and get handed over to USPS on the final leg of the journey.

238 So powder, then wadding, then ball and the wadding made it snug enough for the ball to stay in the barrel until it was fired?

Usually, but like Mark Andrew Edwards notes: not always. It wasn't a very perfect system. In a pinch soldiers used to skip the wadding and hammer the butt of the rifle on the ground to tap the ball in place, it was faster, although you got less power and accuracy. Most of the time muskets were used at such short range against such large targets of massed men it didn't really matter.

Posted by: Count de Monet at July 18, 2017 06:33 PM (JO9+V)

It was called a patch. Powder goes in, then the ball is placed over the patch, and when the ball was rammed in the patch would fold up along the sides of the ball.

Yeah people lose eardrums that way, its not like in the movies where you have a conversation as you hammer away with the six shooter at the bad guys. You can literally break windows with the concussion from a pistol.

247 Short answer is 'friction' ramming the ball into the muzzle should create a good seal to keep ball and powder in.

Long answer is...sometimes the ball falls out. Which happened to some fairly famous folks, some of whom died shortly afterwards.
==============

Linen patch around the ball, usually lubed, then ball and patch rammed down the barrel. The friction between the patch and barrel made for a good seal and a secure bullet.

Actually, it was VERY much like that. The KPD had been running riot ever since the late 1920s (after it recovered from the Freikorps sorting them out in 1919), breaking up other parties' meetings, murdering opponents, etc. The NSDAP established the SA originally to protect their meetings, and then to battle the the KPD. The NSDAP picked up a lot of support for this, because they were seen as the only party that could stand up to the Communists.

The constant street battles, assassinations, etc. by BOTH sides sickened the population, who pretty much wanted to stop, and of the two, the Nazis seemed like the lesser evil. Bear in mind that the Bolsheviks had seized power less than 20 years earlier, and the Germans were well aware of the Red reign of terror that had obtained ever since. (NB, in 1933 the USSR was in the middle of the Holodomor, which the Germans well knew.)

The German electorate was faced with lousy choices: the Reds, the Nazis, or a coalition of weak sauce parties that couldn't control the country.

If that's the case, then it's all already lost. Democracy was never part of the plan for the United States. It is instead, in no small part, how the plan was undone.
