This was around the time when a naturalism was in vogue--in portraiture, and even then there were strict rules. The Colonies were more relaxed, though. For history paintings, realism took a back-seat to idealism. The heroes had to be glorified and beautified to symbolically represent their heroic status. Benjamin West got in a lot of trouble for trying to make history painting more realistic.

It is ridiculously expensive. You can find 'deals" and depending upon when you go get better rates. Shop around. Best time to go it probably in the fall right before Halloween. They have pretty cool Halloween parade. (but you have to buy a separate ticket to get back in at night for the parade, of course). Honestly, with the money you spend on one Disney vacation you could rent a large house right on the beach for a week -- like 3 to 5 times.

Don't pay for a meal plan. We found it was too much food and always scrambled to use those last few credits. Used to be that they'd throw a meal plan in for free depending on the package you purchased and if it was low season. However, there doesn't seem to be much of a low season anymore and they've gotten greedier than ever so that may not even be a possibility. However, if there are restaurants you absolutely want to try, make the reservations ASAP.

... bud, I'd really encourage you to stay off-site. Lodging is SO much cheaper - and you can stay at some nice places. I would recommend you get the 4-park ticket. They got 'em for $79 per person per day, so you're looking at $2500 there. You'll drop an easy $250 a day in the park. You can get adjoining condo rooms for $250 each per day - nice rooms, nothing shitty.
No way you should spend 25K chief. But you are going to spend over 10K.

Ahhhh. Growing up in St. Louis, I spent many summer vacations at Silver Dollar City. Crows' Nest was about a mile past the main entrance to SDC. You started down the mountain, then turned in to SDC, or continued on to the lake.
I just checked, they have changed & rebuilt cabins, but the pool is still the same. LOL. It's been 40 years.

The history of the Kaaba is interesting, what little pre-Islamic history there is. It was said to have been built by Abraham and Ishmael, but the design of the building itself is way too late for that. It has a Greco-Persian feel to it. During the early Islamic years, there was debate as to the importance of the Kaaba. For a while, some Muslims prayed to Jerusalem, but that could have been the result of the conflict between caliphs and sects. The stone itself has been destroyed numerous times by warring factions of Muslims. Interesting.

Go buy a couple sheets of acid.
Rent a couple costumes from the costume supply store. They don't even really have to be Disney, just animals and stuff.
Buy a bunch of old Disney DVDs.
Turn off all the lights in the basement, put the DVDs on, drop acid, and have some friends come through every now and then in costume and freak you out.
Awesome vacation, and you don't even have to get in the car. In fact, I'd advise against it. Also hide your guns and sharp objects before tripping balls.

It's funny, I feel like he's very understandable. He started off as a man who was very noble, very religious. Add to that him being a very driven, type "A" personality who did not abide losing in any way, shape, or form, and also the fact that he had extremely good, innate, organizing and military capabilities.
He starts off in the wars as a lower ranking officer, several ranks down, but he makes his unit a crack unit, and people start noticing that he always wins, because he's better at this kind of thing than anybody else. (btw, his 'New Model Army" was revolutionary then, but was the organizational model which even the US Army today is descended from)
Then, he wasn't going to lose when the people over him were corrupt, lazy, or stupid, so when they failed, he got rid of them and took over their duties himself. Not that hard to do when you've got an entire army that is fanatically devoted to you, personally. (The key to why everyone, even in Parliament, stayed so scared of him)
Then he kept trying to settle things, but people kept opposing him, trying to mess things up, and he was not a man of infinite patience. Charles 1 screwed around and screwed around with him, had plenty of chances to make a settlement, and finally Cromwell said "i'm sick of this shit, I'm chopping your stupid head off, and let that be a lesson to the rest of you." Remember at this point there was no one left to tell him "no", since he had already executed some of his former friends when they had opposed him and he took it as a personal betrayal.
Ireland looks like the case where the man and his army had just fought for too long - meaning that they had gotten very good at it, but they were sick of it and sick of the other side still fighting, and they were all pissed off, all the time. Which means no one much batted an eye when they went to Ireland and said "fuck it, lets just kill every man, woman, and child as soon as we see them, and when everyone on this bloody Island is dead we can toss some of those Scots over here and go home."
He tried to be good and enlightened at the beginning, but when his enemies pushed him and pushed him he fell back into "DO IT OR DIE!!" mode for everything, and never got out of it.

I took a family of four to Disney a year or so ago at Christmas. for 10-11K with flights costs included. Stayed at Animal Kingdom. Best vacation ever. Not cheap though. Do your homework if you have never been there before. Read about how to see the parks efficiently. There is a skill to it.
I have done D twice, once with a gold plated meal plan, once paying cash on the fly for food. Gold plated meal plan is a waste of $$ unless you like to eat like a pig AT EVERY MEAL. Two days in we were throwing food out and left many meal credits on the card.
The high end resorts are nice. Lots of room and relaxed atmosphere. Worth the money. Compared to the lower end hotels. If I could do it over, I would not stay at Animal Kingdom (no Monorail) and stay at a high end hotel with a monorail stop. The Floridian or the other weird looking one. Monorail would let my teen kids explore more on their own or stay out late.
In a nut shell:
1. Worth the dough
2.High end hotel on monorail
3. Pay for food out of pocket.
4. Buy the soda cup.
5.Book sit down meals in advance. (the English Pub in EPCOT Rocks).
6. Plan carefully.. Use the park hopper.
