Promenade En Automne

How does one start a painting such as this?

"How many leaves do I need to paint? Screw it, I'm going to the café."

15 I'm glad the artist understood that the focus of the painting is not the women, but the forest. Which is funny because the ladies are in the exact center of the canvas--where the focus usually goes. They are small, and the color of their dresses blends into the landscape. They are there, but easily overlooked. Very nice.

43 The long line of the stone wall represents the constraining force of the patriarchy and its control on the women. The path indicates their proper place. The many knots on the rigid trees in the foreground increase their potency as phallic symbols. The trees on the lower level are inferior in size, and the women are separated from them for their own good by the noble force of patriarchy.

5/5 evil patriarchal conspiracy stars.

50 That is a beautiful painting. I don't think I've ever seen it before. I like the light. I like autumn light and all those leaves are lovely. As far as why the artist didn't give up, this seems an appropriately related devotional, "The road to success" by the Rabbi at the "International Fellowship of Christian and Jews". I bet the painting was not all a straight line from start to finish for Firmin-Girard either:

96 Another wonderful Firmin-Girard painting. I think this might be the third one used for the thread; each a different scene but sharing the artist's technique. He has used a color palette that evokes the theme of autumn, dictated by the gentle light of the cloudy sky and fallen leaves, that contrasts so effectively with the younger woman's outfit. The detail in the trees, especially the bark, the mossy stone wall, even the older woman, all denote the idea of natural and gentle aging and cycles of time.

A thoroughly beautiful and evocative scene with a subtle theme. Lovely.

CBD, Thanks for this one. It's gorgeous on its own and with a local heat index over 100 and comparable humidity, this painting is a pleasant reminder of more comfortable weather.

My guess is that we'll get no good answer as to why neither cop in MN had their camera on.

It also explains why they are looking for the one possible witness to events prior to and during the shooting. He/she can potentially trip up the accounts of the cops.

I actually found that a more reasonable explanation that old lesbian hitting on young girl. If you click on the photo-the larger version looks to me like the old woman is smiling and the young woman looks bemused, so maybe they're having a nice conversation. I'm thinking of some of the grandmothers and granddaughters in the congregations in which I have served and they adored each other so I'm putting the best possible spin on it. :^)

201 Also, Rand Paul was on F&F this morning and was asked about McCain.

He acknowledged that he and "John" had been at loggerheads over the years, but that he was saddened at the diagnosis. He also said he knew people who were living five years after a GB diagnosis and if anyone would be a fighter against GB , it would be John.

He also slapped down Brian Kilmeade a few times, much to my delight. Kilmeade would ask a question, then before Paul was finished, start interrupting him telling him everything in the Senate was doomed, etc. Paul just simply said he disagreed with Kilmeade's assessment. He then went on to explain what he wants to see happen that might make the tax and spend Dems and Republicans(yes he said that) happy, in that he wants to see the Obamacare repeal done in two bills run concurrently, one repealing it, and one that would allow for a separate support for a time for the exchanges to allow them to wind down.

Good ideas, hope someone listens.

I really don't understand Trump's logic giving that interview with the

If you read the outakes provided by andy canuck, you will see that Trump's point is that the Russia stuff is all BS, and because Sessions recused himself, it allowed Rosenstein, who Session didn't know, to run the investigation. And then Mueller gets appointed special prosecutor and the Russia BS just goes on.

Trump doesn't trust Rosenstein , with good reason. Look where that got them.

His WH is tied up with dealing with this crap day after day.

I also think giving the interview to the Times was a second chance for them. He allowed three reporters to come in and interview him, while his personal assistant sat in on it , recording it I'm sure.
If it gets reported accurately, fine. If not, it's on the Times again, which he will certainly point out.

I can't speak to other states, but Texas has max & min posted speed limits. (For minimum unposted roads it usually 25 mph less than posted max).

So for a 45 mph road, least acceptable speed limit is 20 mph. Without fail. That doesn't mean get it up to 20 for a few minutes, that's a constant 20 mph. Hard to do on a bike.

Once you accept the facts, the only hope left is trying to make it as long as possible with your mental facilities intact...unfortunately that usually winds up being months not years. Sure, there are new experimental treatments out there but your chances of any success after 50-55 are still close to nil. Those treatments are usually reserved for younger people who have better outcomes and are in generally better health since they are extremely expensive. Since his family has the money he may get them but they won't help. The odds of living more than 2 years after diagnosis after the age of 55 is only around 2-4% and drops the older you get. This is with surgery, chemo, and radiation. Mccain is 80. My FIL was diagnosed with glioblastoma last November, he is 77. He is unable to walk, incontinent, and is losing his grip on reality. His mind will probably be gone before his body gives out. Think Alzheimer's compressed to 12-18 months. Interestingly, glioblastoma don't metastasis to or from the rest of your body so they have that going for them.

430 And I want one of those train horns too -- to pierce the bubbles other drivers are in, locked in their nearly soundproof cars, with the stereo blasting and the A/C creating a mini-hurricane. An ordinary horn can't get their attention.

My pops used to have an air-horn from a Mack truck in his F150...

Scared the hell out of dopey people when they were drifting listlessly between lanes. Great fun for the kids, too!

432 Sessions either needs to recuse himself or step down.

Trump is not fully in control of executive branch and Sessions idiotic decision to recuse himself has set us down this absurd path we are on.

We know what the end game is, keep expanding the "investigation" till you can find something you can charge somebody with.

This bulshit needs to stop and it needs to stop right now.

446 Interesting story at WZ: Comey told Trump about the Russian dossier, and Trump saw it as a threat from Comey.

BTW... I can't even imagine what Trump is going through. Imagine that the day it was announced that you were starting a new job, that a significant amount of people were dedicating their livelihood to ending your job. And from day one, they did everything in their power to destroy you.

Trump could use more prayers I think.

447 Trump could use more prayers I think.
Posted by: shibumi at July 20, 2017 11:35 AM (aT+Bx)

Now you've got me thinking...

As a CEO/Business man, Trump never really fit the mold. Most large corporations, the CEO is the dirtiest, nastiest sunuvabitch who stabbed the most backs to get to where he/she is. And once in position, the backstabbing and skullduggery ramps up eleven-fold in order to keep the position against those plotting against you.

Trump Inc.? Everybody knows who the boss is. Everybody actually likes the boss. Nobody's gunning for him every single day, except the tabloids, who were just straight up silly.

Maybe he just doesn't have the armor against internecine struggle that most Wall Street Tycoon types would have?

448 The Tour de France wannabes get to me too. When did riding a freaking bike mean dressing up like a cosplay asshole?
Next on the list are the Harley Davison geezers that are professional types during the work week but come the weekend are outlaw bikers. Driving in the fast lane 5 mph under the speed limit. Like to tap them with my bumper to see what happens.

451 Dear Fen Spoke:

I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but while I know that your advice to MPPPP was very well intentioned, I think it would have been better to do so in a more private setting, such as email.

I am troubled that he has not posted again on this thread and hope that it is because he had things to do, but it is altogether possible that he is embarrassed, annoyed, or even angry.

I enjoy your spiritual posts very much, as well as MPPPP's comments---he is so very knowledgeable, particularly with regard to the golden age of film, and he has a terrific wit.

Hope this thing settles out quickly and amicably.
