The Matchmaker
Gerard van Honthorst

Commenter-- and host of the recent Texas Moron Meet-up -- Ben Had has asked me to tell you maniacs that another one is in the works if there is sufficient interest.

Tentatively scheduled for October 14, and located about 70 miles South of Dallas TX, anyone with interest or questions please contact: murphywong at peoplepc dot com.

******

And because your intrepid but forgetful coblogger did a cursory and incomplete check, this piece is a repeat. So here is another painting, suggested by commenter "Kris," who really does know a lot about art!

Very smart, very loyal dogs.

They tend to get fat if they aren't kept active.

As a herding breed, they can be loud barkers.

They practically learn english. Usually very dedicated and friendly, a little foot shy, sometimes a little neurotic.

No one cares about the poor fuckers who have to pay for it all.

Posted by: Bicentennialguy at July 18, 2017 09:22 AM (io/fD)

It's simple. The poor fuckers who have to pay for it all don't complain, except at the dinner table, or the occasional letter to the editor. They simply look at their household budget and try to figure out how to keep going on less money.

If the working class of this benighted country rioted in even half the force of the FSA, you'd see change faster than you can say "Ticonderoga."

As I said yesterday, nothing short of a blind date with Madame Guillotine is going to wake DC up.

And that being said, I'm thinking of motorboats now, for some strange reason.

I have a hobby farm with chickens, geese, ducks, rabbits and horses.

55 Booby, or not booby, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous flat chestedness,
Or to take Hold against a Dee of Doubles,
And by fondling mold them: to rise, to sleep
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
the crotch-ache, and the thousand natural shocks
that Flesh is heir to? 'Tis a consummation
devoutly to be wished. To rise, to sleep,
To sleep, perchance to Dream; aye, there I rub,
for in that sleep of death, the boobehs may come

Joseph Wright of Derby was a great painter. Nowadays, he's often overshadowed by Benjamin West, J-L David, Turner, Copley. I used to discuss this one when I taught the Enlightenment Era. A lot of artists painted scientific ideas at the time.

Orreries are also really cool. I'd like one someday.

Son's dog is just like that. Well, she's gotten used to loud noises. He's actually taken her to a friend's place in the country to go shooting, and she doesn't mind.

He was leaving to go home Sunday night, and before he opening the front door, I noticed a buck deer in the driveway, and warned him to put his dog on her leash. Thank goodness. She and the buck had a stare-down before it took off. She wanted that deer so badly.

Yes, I've met many fantastic border collies that were amazing animals, which is why they were on my short list.

Unfortunately, just inside the last couple of months I've encountered a couple that weren't really aggressive (because they were largely minding their own business, lying down) but when I went to pet them they snapped at me.

I had a friend with one that was completely psychotic, but I always attributed that to the fact that he kept it fenced up and didn't work with it often enough.

With a kid, I'm tempted to err on the side of docile.

So far he's roomed with a couple who had major issues, a guy whose nutty girlfriend moved in with them, and now this kid. Son was perfectly happy alone in his one bedroom place, and then psycho boy convinced him to move into the more spacious place to "save money."

172 The two-year delay in repeal taking effect perfectly illustrates America's political dysfunction, and the trap the (apparently few) sentient voters are in.

The GOP is rather hilariously, audaciously corrupt, mendacious, and irresponsible, as their refusal to actually exploit the popular animus against O-care illustrates. I can't think of any example in US history of such brazen dishonesty on a concrete issue of such importance to the entire populace.

Of course the Dems, and the Beltway in general and the media and the punditocracy (effectively all on entity) are insane and reviled as the authors of this catastrophe.

So where are you gonna go? Trump has been more a spectator than leader on this (huge mistake, obviously, from the outset). So there we are - the world's largest richest country held hostage to a handful of insurance company political action committees, and self-dealing HMO outfits, over something that just doesn't affect real life but is major anchor on the economy for everyone.

Oh - and let's celebrate the newest global warming myth of US politics - an "issue" that never got anyone elected or defeated in history, "pre-existing condition" distortion of the concept of insurance vs. welfare safety net - is now our newest "third rail". Somehow, magically, this great moral issue of our age wasn't sufficient to made one Republican vote for O-care just a few years ago - yet now, somehow, it's this political IED waiting to go off.

Because it's sort of obvious that a populace that reviles O-care so much it has delivered the greatest partisan shift in our history will just reconsider and embrace O-care and punish those who repeal it if this political non-issue that never motivated them before is not addressed.

Jane, does he leave the dog there during the day or bring it to you everyday?
T'aint no effing way I'd leave my dog. Psycho could come back at any time.

Why doesn't he just move out and stay with you until he finds something new?

240 Another amendment for the convention of the states:

Congress shall pass no law which exempts members of Congress.

If I were advising Trump, I'd encourage him to hit the road for a series of health rallies.

On stage, bring up vet after vet who have had horror stories at the VA. Then bring up people who have had their premiums skyrocket because of O-Care.

Then flash a yuge screen picture of McStain and tell the crowd that, while they suffer, this ambulatory shitstain gets the best health care available in the country.

And the best part? You're paying for it!

I would tell Donald to make McStain the face of Congress. A worthless, useless parasite who should have had his spackled ass thrown in jail years ago. Unleash the power of a mob.

And now dickhead Schumer is speaking.

The Senate needs to put every senator to the test on a straight repeal vote.
This will identify those that need to be primaried.

They would require family members to do it for free.

None of these people have any awareness of the long term consequences of their actions. They think they won (eg like in win-the-lottery) and that makes everything they think golden. Inmates running the asylum.

Tami, I have begged him to move in with us (he can store all his things at husband's warehouse), but he won't consider it. Yes, he leaves her there during the day, since roommate is working.

I think the stupid kid has sense enough to know our son would go full John Wick on his ass.

Hope he's out of the apartment within the next month. I honestly can't take much more, and he hasn't even told us everything. One of his vet buddies told my husband some of the drama. Psycho Boy's dad is a retired NYC attorney, and he knows some of what his idiot son has been up to. That may be one reason the kid is staying at his dad's.

Gypos!

At least that's what my UPS drivers called them....

They would bring drop-shipped trailers to us all of the time, and while some of them knew how to drive, I learned very quickly to tell my inbounders to have them put their trailers in drive-through pads, otherwise it would take them all day.

270 Well, if you kill 'em off by denying treatment it all just happens naturally. The heirs sell the family home, receive estate and start spending it, etc.

One of the reasons that I'm opposed to "assisted suicide" is that it's really easy to put pressure on the vulnerable: the sick, the elderly, the depressed. There are a lot of scumbag kids who'd love for mom and dad to hurry up and die so that they can get the inheritance, and the state is right there urging things along.
