Posted by: bluebell at July 17, 2017 09:32 AM (sBOL1) Sometimes, a customer will like a painting and want a copy. They will then dictate a change or two. Sometimes the artist doesn't like the first work and will try again. Sometimes, after the first one is done, they will have a better idea and try again. Sometimes they like the theme and revisit it several times. And sometimes, it can be a combination of the above, or something else entirely. Posted by: Kris at July 17, 2017 09:37 AM (nwqNw) 52

Interesting. I usually expect more intense colors, especially reds, from Caravaggio. This one uses softer earth tones for the background and clothing although the white cloth and highlights on the sword stand out. I find this effectively focuses the viewer's attention to the faces and hands which is where the 'story' lies.
I enjoy the mild sarcasm of the title. Oh yeah, she's telling his fortune. Right! And he is interested in her words. Thanks for providing the alternate version which shows even younger models and slight differences in colors. The difference between the two versions makes me curious as to why Caravaggio chose one over the other. Both versions are so effective and show a sense of playfulness that's a far cry from the artist's 'heavier' religious themes. Posted by: JTB at July 17, 2017 09:41 AM (V+03K) 72

Trump is a plurality President in a divided nation. Importantly he has strong support among his supporters and the opposition has dick.
MSM is the opposition party, and while it has driven up Trump's negatives in the short run, there's no sign that this will help the Ds in 2018. I don't think Trump's poll numbers would EVER get past 52% --even if discovered a cure for cancer.
But two things to remember--he's getting hit every single day, a never-ending stream of "bad news" that shows no sign of slowing and --just as before the election--some are afraid to admit to the pollsters that they like or support Trump. So 43% IS a miracle. Also John Podhoretz is a total asshole. Posted by: JoeF. at July 17, 2017 10:00 AM (7uYFy) 148

Such as, 30 days of top stories about Trump being a miserable failure, followed by a a poll saying N% people believe Trump is a miserable failure! I've ruined Spock for our son forever, I'm afraid.
He was over for dinner last night, and I insisted he watch the "music" video of Leonard Nimoy singing "The Legend of Bilbo Baggins" that was linked on the Scarborough thread the other night. He was beyond gob-smacked and kept saying, "What the hell am I watching? What is this?!?" Heh. Posted by: Jane D'oh at July 17, 2017 10:52 AM (PY9jH) 318

406 399 For those that were following the "spooky story" which I posted about in an earlier thread, I am going to see this woman and bless her house at 1:00 EST. Prayers would be appreciated. Thanks
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at July 17, 2017 11:30 AM (iVOAv) A word of caution - if there truly is something evil in the house, house blessings often make matters worse. They piss off the evil spirit, to the point where a minor exorcism may be required. Posted by: josephistan at July 17, 2017 11:32 AM (7HtZB) Have the Winchesters make a devil trap for you. Just to be on the safe side, if the host offers you food or drink from the house. Politely refuse.

Bruce Jenner considering Senate run as a Republican.
He could win as a democrat. He's a nut and has even done the name change thing they love so much. Of course the one leftist who really should change his name and hasn't is the head of LULAC, Ashley Wilkes. Posted by: The Original REAL Galactic Lord Sir Covfefe at July 17, 2017 11:37 AM (nFwvY) 423

If she needs a minor exorcism the RC priest needs to do that. I am not worried. I stand in the strength of Jesus Christ and have put on the whole armor of God. She will have had a priest come before-twice I think- and I have holy water from the Eastern Orthodox church. She may be the one who needs healing from obsessive thoughts. You're a woman of God, Fen. In the New Testament accounts, exorcism consisted of telling the demon to get out in His Name and it (or they) would get out. Of course, that sort of thing goes badly for those without faith, but you don't have that problem.
