Thread before the Gardening Thread: How to become a racist, sexist misogynist [KT]

Serving your mid-day open thread needs

Gutsy, gutsy woman:

Do you know anyone like her? I expect that there isn't anyone quite like her at Evergreen. Despite a couple of recent outbreaks of bravery there.

Hope you have a great weekend. Got anything gutsy planned?

We shouldn't have to explain this to you.

Well, we had a great time working together, and in convesation, he admitted that he's totally freaked out by Muslims, and if he sees one of them in the garbage bag, he immediately thinks they're hiding a b0mb. He also had one really uncomfortable plane ride sitting next to a Muslim woman who was praying.

The well meaning/true believer liberals (as opposed to the cynical, exploitive Hillary kind or the FSA kind) have a strong *emotional* attachment to how they'd like reality to be. They can't bear to give that up. In Europe, even if they get raped by immigrants, they still remain pro-immigrant. That's how strong their psychological need is.

102 "Progressives," like all the terms they use, is a misnomer. Everything they want is regressive, like abandoning family, faith, the law, the Constitution, the nation-state, comfortable and healthy civilization built on strong energy resources, on and on; everything that humankind has worked so hard to achieve they would throw away and substitute that from which we emerged.

So, whenever you read "progressive," substitute regressive.

That's my 2¢ for the morning. Howdy, y'all!

103 The well meaning/true believer liberals (as opposed to the cynical, exploitive Hillary kind or the FSA kind) have a strong *emotional* attachment to how they'd like reality to be. They can't bear to give that up. In Europe, even if they get raped by immigrants, they still remain pro-immigrant. That's how strong their psychological need is.

109 It's nice that people can maintain their antagonism towards and focus on "progressives", but at the moment the problem is on their own "side", where a GOP that was pushed and dragged almost against its will into power simply refuses to eradicate the fiscal, social, and governmental disaster that is O-care.

But as "only" 15+ million have been seriously damaged, directly and personally, by this disaster, while others merely see things continuing downhill at the same pace as before, the inertia of incumbency and tribal politics will guarantee no real change. And Trump, who could make this one of his signature political/policy victories that would also pave the way for others, simply doesn't care Congress produces, and will clearly sign anything put in front of him.

Only tiny remaining hope is enough GOP Senators act like adults and refuse to go along with the ridiculous bill to save O-care masquerading as repeal and replace.

There are two types of people. Splitters and lumpers.

In my field we describe disease severity in general categories of mild, moderate, and severe. Useful distinction, to wit:

Mild- not going to cause problems or need treatment

Moderate- may not lead to problems, but bears watching

Severe- needs something done about it.

But when you read patient charts, the terms have been subdivided into a new scale of:

1. Trivial
2. Extremely mild
3. Mild
4. Mild to low-moderate
5. Low moderate
6. High moderate
7. High moderate to severe
8. Severe
9. Really severe
10. Critical

Entirely too much splitting.
We need to get back to lumping.

I tend INTP. I don't think that the liberals, those advocates of science, are really in favor of knowing that they have this or that internal tendency. In that case, they might start questioning things. Instead they are continually producing "studies" that show how conservatives are completely ruled by unconscious biases, but make an exception of themselves.

161 It's late in my day and I'm drinking.

So, a thought.

Political correctness is a memetic disease. It transfers from person to person by hijacking social cues, not the least of which is your own sense of decency and propriety.

It tells you "do not say this, good / decent / smart people don't say things like this in polite society", and thus, by doing that, turns you against speaking an unpleasant truth.

It fosters a world of lies, and we're seeing its fruit in full bloom now.

We're not going to defeat this until we abandon that pretense, and tell the truth.

That's going to mean the destruction of a lot of relationships and friendships...

But to that, I'd say that if a relationship depended upon lies to be maintained, it wasn't healthy or worth keeping to begin with.

We now live in a world that is increasingly hostile to the truth. If we're going to be hated for telling the truth anyway, we may as well go whole hog on the iconoclasm and slaughter all of their sacred cows.

They are angry at the decadence of the west, which has led to this innovative form of protest in order to bring back modesty as a virtue. And it has already borne results! They cancelled the festival! Does this not demonstrate the power and wisdom of Allah?

Elior Levy|Published: 15.07.17 , 19:31
A day after the murderous attack inside the Temple Mount, where police officers Ha'il Satawi and Kamil Shnaan were killed, security forces continue to search the compound for weapons.

One of the possibilities examined is that most of the Carlo submachine guns used in the terrorist attack were hidden in advance.

NO doubt the muslim scum hide weapons on the Temple Mount...they have no respect for even their own religious places...scum, pure scum

Honest to goodness, that is where I can't figure out what 'class' means. Hourly workers: attorneys and gas station cashiers. Bloated plutocrats: stock coupon clippers and franchise store owners. I think academics want to believe that they are 'elite' somehow, but a narrow specialty does not necessarily transfer to real life.

It usually mean that you teach a course- say Freshman Composition, may not have your Doctorate and get paid badly for the work you do.My husband was an adjunct professor in 1983-He had a Master's Degree and got paid twelve hundred dollars over a four month period for a class that too time to prepare, for read papers for and grade-in a class of 35 students. At the time he was working FT an night. This was not a good combination.

They can't quit while they're ahead. Actually that's not clear enough. They can't settle for a reasonable state of affairs when they get it. Two examples that come to mind: it's not enough to have a lenient immigration policy, they also want to let in illegal *criminals* and allow them to stay here in sanctuary cities. It's not enough for there to be no gender pay gap. They think that because women's clothes generally cost more than men's, this is a "hidden tax" on being a woman.

Maybe the rejection of current liberalism means most people realize we've arrived at a point of all that a liberal could reasonably expect.

Rhomboid, I disagree on this one. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Where we have historically got our butts kicked by the Left is that they will take half a loaf when they can get it, then come back for a whole loaf later, and never quit pressing. We need to learn from that. Do what is possible now, but don't quit pushing toward our ultimate goal. The unfortunate fact is that the majority of the country is not conservative, but the majority can be persuaded to agree with conservative ideas when they are shown to make sense. The majority is not liberal either, but the Left has managed to drag the country along toward their direction, a little bit at a time. I think that's what we have to do.

253 However, we [liberals] imagine that all of you [conservatives], regardless of what you think is your "gender" and "race" are defacto white men with white penises who own trucks and watch NASCAR.

Agree with rhomboid here. Let me know when you can find any Fed program that has been diminished, rather than expanded. Repeal, repeal, repeal. First. Then everyone can go play in the weeds.

263 "baby steps to kill single payer are better than nothing"

These are baby steps over the cliff TO single payer.

(a) Obamacare is imploding horribly.
(b) Republicans promise to repeal it.
(c) Republicans don't actually repeal it.
(d) Instead the Republicans opt to "fix" it.
(e) In a way that solves none of the underlying problems.
(f) The "fixed" Obamacare implodes horribly anyway.
(g) Republicans are blamed by the public.
(h) The public vote in Democrats to square away the mess.
(i) Democrats install single-payer as the "simple" solution.

Easy as falling off a log.

The rude reality is that U.S. health care (note I am not referring to "health insurance" or to "health coverage" or to "health policies" but to HEALTH GODDAMN CARE) was badly broken before Obamacare. Obamacare did not fix the underlying broken stuff. Neither do the GOP's cosmetic patches to Obamacare. And neither will single-payer once the Democrats get back in.

Republican Cucks have maneouvered themselves into the Centrist position, and pushed the Democrats to the far Left.

Problem is: this new GOP Cuck party are the Democrats of the 90's.
