Sorry for a minimal ONT. Been a busy week.

Biometrics

Biometrics catches violent fugitive 25 years on the run.

Pajama Boy

Clinical psychologist: 'Women hate harmless men'.

Division

Crank up the bass, crack open a brew and relax.

Chairwoman of Heartland Engagement

Yeah, that's the ticket Democrats. Democrats are so out of touch that they just appointed a 'chairwoman of Heartland Engagement'. One shouldn't have to tailor their message if their actions resonate with the locals.

Acid Attacks

Acid becoming weapon of choice among teens in London amid growing attacks. A Royal Air Force officer I work with says it's the Pakistani's that are committing most of the attacks. The article makes it sound just like your normal everyday teenage gang.

Dog Video

Social Security

I've always planned on it not being there when it is time for me to draw on it. Social Security trust funds to be depleted in 17 years.

Movie Props

The 100 greatest props in movie history, and the stories behind them.

57 I would like to signal boost a comment from Tom Servo in the "Hawaiian Judge Reluctantly Accepts the Mantle of Supreme Commander and Dispenser of All Wisdom" thread a couple back. People are obviously frustrated by the incredible lawless actions of the judiciary and other supposedly neutral actors. Tom Servo said:

"So what do the people who voted for him and support Trump do the stop the coup?"

For now, understand what a long game this is. Understand that Trump's first 2 years is all going to be spent just fighting lawsuits and judges and getting people appointed, and not much more is going to happen than that. The rot is too deep, the deep state is too entrenched, and the current Congress isn't capable of it. We need another big election in 2018 to knock some more of the current inhabitants out and put a scare into the rest of them. (We also need to replace Kennedy, which now won't happen til next year, probably.)

This is the Battle of the Bulge, and we're under siege. It's going to take everything we got just to hang on til hopefully, some relief can come in 2018.

These are words we should all live by. They have played the long game, it is our turn now. The election of President Trump provides us with an incredible opportunity to clean a lot of this up, but the election is simply the opening salvo in what is going to be a long war. I had hoped that Trump's election, by itself, would be enough to improve things, but we have learned differently. We have no choice but to dig in and keep working to fix things.

65 Baby Sister Update

Yesterday (Thursday) was another great adventure for Joyce and her amazing friend Jessica:

"I once read that if you repeat a task 10,000 times, you will instinctively perfect that task. Joyce is perfecting the simple yet important things she does; Thursday morning one hour at Jervey Gantt park with Joyce's sweet friend Erin. Erin's schedule allowed for a brief visit.

Big hello's, lot's of hugs and kisses. Our active time at the park began with a long, impressive, walk to the outdoor racquetball courts for wall ball and leg lifts. (15 total). Joyce improved her leg lifts in a short time. Sitting in her chair she secured the ball between her ankles then slowly raised her feet and legs straight up and with assistance would even bend her knees & retract her feet with the ball back towards her. She's looking forward to perfecting this exercise.

Then another impressive walk back to the car. Thrift shopping (on a mission ) was a huge success. We hit pay dirt with ($6 worth)! Lunch at Zaxby's was delish and the Hers & Hers beef pot pies we baked, one for each family's dinner, were delishamundo! We have SO MUCH FUN!"

Thanks, Jessica!

[To my fellow Hordelings, thank you all in advance for your prayers and well-wishes for my sister and our family.]

Posted by: Zettai Ryoiki at July 14, 2017 10:26 PM (e9G8E)

It is, but there is a "weapons-grade" drain opener made of crude concentrated sulfuric acid, which is dark brown from dissolved sulfur. The stuff has an incredible affinity for water, and breaks down flesh and hair by scavenging out water contained in its molecules, in effect charring the skin of victims. Nasty.

Both have been married to the same man for over 25years and both are completely devoted to the guys who, IMHO, have hit the marriage lottery. In many ways, they have reversed gender roles before that became a thing.

BTW... I wouldn't describe either of the women above as alpha.

So "one size fits all" doesn't necessarily work.

I spent a semester in college studying the language and the people in Saint Petersburg. Every weekday, I had the following walk: a kilometer to the subway station nearest my apartment, and about two kilometers from the subway station nearest the university to the university.

The metro stations are a little more closely-spaced in Moscow, but given my experience, it's no surprise that Russians walk a lot. I ate probably four or five thousand calories a day (in no small part due to the enormous bowls of buttery kasha my host grandmother made for breakfast) and still lost weight.

Not so much these days, I am now married, but only since last fall.

Prior to that relationship, my dating profile noted specifically noted that I was what I consider to be an Alpha male. Not in any kind of bad way, just that I was over 50 and not likely to change much in my ways at this point in my life. Accept me as I am, or not, and I will return the favor. I am not a fixer upper.

Something about my verbiage sparked a "challenge accepted!" vibe in women that responded. Every one of them, within a couple of months began to try and get me to change.

When I brought up the fact that I was upfront and honest, the consistent answer was "this is to help YOU, not for me!.

Really? Before endorsing the conclusion that that proved anything, I'd want to sweat the methodology of the "study."

I'd be looking specifically for selection bias, viz., that people who choose to read Shakespeare are intellectually more able than those reading self-help books (which, frankly, are generally for retards). For example, a "study" might show that reading books on group theory is better for the brain than comic books, cleanly overlooking the difference in the demographics to which the respective books appeal.

The obvious control experiment: switch the reading material of the two test groups, and measure the effect again.

169 @121 Insomniac-Good grief. I have plenty of success meeting women, being NICE. Alberta said it, not being a doormat/chump. Lately been on a good streak. I have had some times where it wasn't working and have been rejected. Big deal, suck it up, move on and don't be a baby about it. For me as long as the chase had some element of fun it was worth it.

If by finishing you mean finding a good woman and having a sound marriage, then nice guys finish first.

True story:

Once upon a time, when I was living in Tahoe, my roommate the whore was having a thing with a Chippendale dancer. Was he good looking? I guess. Did he have a nice body? Sure.

He'd come over and clean house when she wasn't home. It was his thing. I don't think I ever actually had a real conversation with him. In fact, I'm not sure I ever spoke to him.

So... eventually, I'm going to want a conversation. Much sooner than later. And right now, I would choose any moron here over a vapid, well studded 30 year old.

worth your time especially if you have been reading Scott Adams since about last August or so.

Oh yeah, I have a favor. On one of the ONT I think, there was a link to a very dystopian picture of the future. Basically it described what it would be like if robots were doing all the jobs and those robots were being controlled by a few oligarchs.

I could not bring myself to read it at the time, but I would really really like to read it now. I need that perspective. If you know what I am talking about and can post the link that would be great.

How do I search the archives?

I emailed my guy Cornyn today and bitched about no ACA relief and no tax relief. We supported them...where is our quid pro quo?

255 The "women hate harmless men" article is very interesting and speaks to me on a personal level.

When I wanted women I was harmless, and when I was over them I was an asshole. Some years later I am in some grey area of a harmless asshole dad guy. Neither desirable, nor harmless. Out to pasture in some way, I guess.

Still, there was a brief period in my youth when I was basically a very uncaring asshole and women basically threw their panties at me.

Two years ago I had three turkey hens herding 16 baby turkeys right behind the house. They were so cute.

Two days later I saw them sprinting for a draw over cow-chewed prairie on the other side of the ridge. The three hens were in the lead, but there were only 14 little ones.

Tough neighborhood. Could have been fox or coyotes. The feral cats avoid my area.

As if that isn't head-scratching enough, Viscott said that when that happens, really it's the two guys who want to have sex with each other; they're just using the woman as kind of a prop.

278 Yes, women want a strong man.

"Bad boys" and a-holes may fool very young (or neurotic) women but most of us know that they are actually quite weak.

Being "nice," in some ways is a good thing for all of us. Who wants someone around who is habitually rude and obnoxious?

But what really matters is being GOOD. That takes strength.

IMO.

281 And I would LOVE to live in Tahoe.

Although the way things are going in California, I'd probably prefer the Nevada portion (which I believe is called Stateline).
--

I lived in Zephyr Cove, which was a bit north of Stateline. But then had a place on the California side as well. But my legal address was always in NV.

Back then, it was a small town. It's larger now, but it's still a small town.

I'm used to the burbs. Within 10 miles, there are probly a dozen Catholic churches. There were two there. Ethnic anything? Sorry, only mexican, and it's better in Reno. Jewish deli? No. Your favorite ethnic bakery? You're on drugs. Ethnic was basically "Mexican" or "expensive resturant in a casino."

Also.. in the summer, every day is perfect. Sunny and 85 or so. EVERY DAY. Month after month. After a while, it becomes oppressive, especially if you're used to really changeable weather, like I am.

While I was there, I read a really lovely story in the local paper about how a woman decided to open a brothel, and worked for a prostitute for year, so she could relate to her girls. Her husband and adult children were very proud of her.

The hens are all around them. Completely ignoring them as they peck at the ground. If I could talk turkey with those males I would give them AoSHQ relationship advice.

I've watched broods over the years, they always thin out. You left out hawks, which are another predator.

In this brood, I watched sadly as the fifth little biddy, 'poult' is actually the word, was struggling to keep up. He would realize that he was behind, then run frantically to catch up, flapping his little micro winglets, barely managing to do so.

He's doomed, I expect. Life can be short and brutal.

346 I've watched broods over the years, they always thin out.

For a while, part of the time while I was high school, we lived in a rural area, and we had ducks. Every time N ducklings got into the pond, N-1 got out. Some of the ducks were Peking (white) ducks, while others were mallards, and diversity training notwithstanding, they used to peck each others' ducklings to death when we weren't watching.

Also, whenever a hawk flew over, all the ducks scooted underneath the nearest tree. The slow scooters didn't last long either.

Anyone who buys into Rousseau's noble savage/state of nature bullshit has never spent time in a rural setting.

351 Oh well. I'm sure there's other decent and more affordable neighborhoods up there.
---

This is where I rented a place:

The median home value in Zephyr Cove is $647,900. Zephyr Cove home values have gone up 17.7% over the past year. The median list price per square foot in Zephyr Cove is $351, which is higher than the Gardnerville Ranchos Metro average of $228. The median price of homes currently listed in Zephyr Cove is $717,000.
Minden/Gardnerville cheaper, but it's in the valley and HOT. Zepyhyr Cove is up the highway from Stateline.

You don't pay state taxes in NV, but the sales taxes are high and you pay in other ways.

359 Ok serious for a second.

I have given a lot of thought to immigration policy. I have said that while the left claims it is in favor of immigration, the immigration policy is selective. The left, as I see it, only favors immigration from...leftist countries.

So, why should we favor immigration from certain countries over others? If we are going to be pro-immigrant, shouldn't we allow unlimited immigration from all countries?

For example, why not allow unlimited immigration from India and Japan and Poland and so forth in addition to the countries that the left favors? If they are truly in favor of immigrants then why not be in favor of ALL immigrants.

So, Reason.com style, I am fair, and I embrace immigration from all countries in an unrestricted fashion.

Well, I would simply add this caveat which I think my Uncle Palpatine can embrace:

Let's allow unlimited immigration from all countries for women only.

What do you guys thinks, and seriously I am not interested in the 'ettes opinion on this one.

Life can be brutal. I've got other stories. Like the grasshopper sparrow nest I unveiled with my mower. It had two and then 4 eggs in it. The sparrow guarded the nest fiercely. The morning the eggs finally hatched a predator took all the chicks out. The mom sparrow did all she could. Alas.

Lots of turkey vultures soar over the hills out here. 4 to 6 vultures can take a dead deer to bones in several days.

My good news is that when I first moved to Kansas 4 vultures would circle me when I went for a hike around the neighborhood. I could hear them thinking "If he drops we can eat for a week."

Now I hike around and the vultures avoid me.

390 {{waving}} Hi Jim!

I wanted you-- and the rest of the horde-- to know that I did something really, really pro-active today, thanks to all of your collective encouragement and support.

A few days ago, when the whip came down with my job, I received an email from the PR guy at a firm I write about all the time. He was leaving the job. He referred me to the general manager, which made me think that they didn't have someone lined up.

Well, I made some calls to the firm yesterday to people I know there, but no one called me back. Today, I called a contact a a neighboring firm, who actually knows the general manager at the firm I called. He told me a bit about the guy, and I asked him to recommend me there. He said no problem and was happy to help.

This afternoon, the general manager called me back; I was out, and he left a messge. We eventually chatted, and he thanked me for getting in touch with him, and asked me to send over a resume and link to my portfolio. Which I did. I also sent over a lovely email.

NO ONE, outside of the guy who gave me the recommendation, knows about this.

I started to wonder if the rat terrier was going to walk completely under the methlab. The rat terrier did start to walk under the methlab but stopped directly underneath her, piddled, then continued on. Methlab never suspected a thing or cared.

445 Have only been to Reno in winter - stay there and do x-country skiing and snowshoe stuff up in Truckee or at the Donner Pass - but it's always been a pleasant and easy place to stay.

On non-ski days I like to check out the gun stores, and the Scheel's in Sparks is a very good sporting goods/outdoor store. Also chanced upon some inexplicably cheap shotgun ammo at the Cabela's on the interstate towards Truckee/CA.

But best of all, back when I went alone, was the Washoe County shooting range complex, north. Beautiful setting, and the drive there is nice too (you pass by BLM's wild horse corrals). Last time there was perfect - probably in the high 30s, snow on the hills around the range, and I had a Mosin, ringing the gongs out at 100 and 200 (?).

453 Also... I'm guardedly hopeful.

However, I rarely get the "I'm moving to another job" emails, so this one was odd.

I just checked; I got it the day befoe the whip came down.

Seems a bit... coincidental.

Even if it doesn't work out, I learned something, or figured out how something I know in real life can be applied in my case.

I have a lot of really great relationships with men in the industry. In fact, 99% of the people I deal with are men.

Men typically like to help women; I think it makes them feel good about themselves.

I can ask the men I know in the industry to help me, and I think that they'll do so without a problem. There are a lot of people I really like, and I think many would be willing to help me.

So it's OK to ask. And if something good comes out if it, it will make them feel good about themselves. At least I hope so.

YMMV - it does.

The places you're talking about are a stage. It's all a show to get attention.

However, in a place w/ women and freely flowing alcohol; at a certain point in time, why don't you think a simple hello would do ?

I think the objective is: I want THAT particular women, in THAT particular setting to pay attention to me.

Re Probiotics. One of my mother's doctors recommended something called "kefir", which is a fermented milk concoction.

I'd never heard of it, but they sell it, and looking it up, it's is the only one that can actually recolonize the gut. Most of these probiotic products, like the pills, can't colonize. They might make it down there, but they won't survive for long.

When I take antibiotics, and I have to take clindomycin usually because of the RA meds I have to take, I will always take kefir along with it. Clindomycin can really wreak havoc with the gut flora and result in nasty complications.

They sell some of it flavored up. If you can't stand yogurt, you'd probably gag on it as well. But if you're worried about say a c. diff infection, you can just force yourself to get over the gag.

No--women have been tricked by feminism that the ideal man is one who is aggressive at work and always climbs higher on the corporate ladder...but at home, he lets her decide everything.

So, the woman who is in total charge of the household wonders why her husband isn't in a better job, and then gets resentful...

613 publius, when I was 16 my doctor found out I was, on a regular basis, having one bowel movement every two days, and had been doing so for years.

He immediately recommended Metamucil, and my mom made sure I drank the stuff with orange juice *every* morning. This was back when you couldn't get it any other way than the ground-up stuff in a drum. I didn't love it but the OJ helped with the flavor a bit IMHO.

Anyway, before long I was a regular kid. I may need to go back to it sometime someday, who knows.

621 The best poops I experience happen during one month of the year: When fresh cherries are available.

As far as eating quality, Ranier are the best tasting and sweetest (and the most expensive). Bing cherries are hit or miss as far as flavor and tartness, but are the most readily available. Cherries that are supposed to be black, but are red, were picked too soon and will not taste very good.

Most come from Washington, but bargains can be found because a lot of cherries are grown in Michigan and other Great Lakes areas, but theyy do not have the grower/marketing co-ops like Washington.

I've seen several brothers-in-law and others employ the "yes, dear" technique to good effect. And, truly, while I admire those men who yield for the sake of enduring marital peace (because they have no choice), if I had to live like that, I'd be dead years ago.

I used to drive the corridor from Niagara Falls to Kitchener/Waterloo frequently. This was on the south side of Lake Ontario ( St. Catherine's). I was amazed at the cherry trees that had their branches propped up, to keep them from breaking from the load of fruit they were holding. This was called "fruitland". I never even thought about another part of Canada that could grow fruit, even though BC is just a stone's throw from Washington.

700 Sometimes when I'm feelin' all purdy and ladylike, I like to put on a dress and pee sittin down, in the women's restroom. Ain't nothin' to be ashamed of in that, I reckon.

705 535 Show of hands: All those who consider ourselves idiots, complete stupid fools, feeling out of place, even here?

I do for several reasons. I question whether I deserve to be included among the Horde given that I spent almost all of my working life in the two most disreputable professions -- journalism and government. Plus I have only one child who is autistic and receives disability; so I didn't perform too well in the area of raising "productive citizens" who might help Western civilization survive. Finally, while I would consider myself far more conservative than liberal there are some conservative dogmas that I occasionally question, for example, that taxation is always evil or that mass transit is always a worthless boondoggle (I use it regularly and it's a lifesaver for those times when I don't have the car). I also couldn't bring myself to vote for Trump (I absolutely was never going to vote for Hillary) although in retrospect I now wish I had. So do I really belong here or not? I enjoy and appreciate the Horde's perspective, I just wonder if I really meet the admission requirements.

I will have done, but they still found out!

707 By the way, AOP, I didn't get to answer you about melatonin. It's definitely worth a try.

I wouldn't worry.

'Throwing away my vote' remorse?

What now makes you wish you had voted for Trump?

I don't think there's a checklist one has to meet. Loving Hillary would be a real down-twinkle, though.

712 @708 Hey, who took a bite of my sandwich?

I'm new here. Is that another way of saying "get off my lawn"?

Melatonin as a sleep aid, or to wake up with? I slept pretty well during the day yesterday. Been napping a little tonight. If this thing keeps on drilling at the rate it's going, we could be done here tomorrow night.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 15, 2017 05:56 AM (AWYXL)

714 Anyway, back to the time machine. Obviously, it's a little vulnerability in the site; you can accomplish it just by visting a page. I figured i'd play a few innocent games to highlight it...i'd be happy to offer suggestions to the hamsters (or is that pixy?)

Posted by: unsure if deplorable, moron at July 15, 2017 05:58 AM (Eynls)

715 The fact that the popular vote became such a big issue after the election and that Trump has performed significantly better than I expected. Because I live in a blue state whose electoral votes were in the bag for Hillary no matter what, I told myself my vote wouldn't make any difference. But now I see that the popular vote does "count" in terms of public opinion.

Posted by: Secret Square at July 15, 2017 05:59 AM (9WuX0)

716 @713 aop

As a sleep aid, to rest the sleep clock. Ive only used it to reset to night sleep, though. Works wonders for me.

Posted by: unsure if deplorable, moron at July 15, 2017 06:00 AM (Eynls)

717 @715 SS

Plus, a bunch of illegal votes swelled Hillary's tally.

Posted by: unsure if deplorable, moron at July 15, 2017 06:03 AM (Eynls)

718 Secret Square,

I know it's late but I don't get it, or rather what you said. I saw the last election in stark terms, the choice between a career corrupt and evil politician or 'hey, let's give the successful businessman beholden to no one in D.C. a shot'. As you have seen, the swamp is deep indeed. To mix metaphors, the pigs at the trough are squealing bloody murder because the shovelfuls of slop they greedily consume might be cut off. I have never seen a 'deep state' situation like this before. It really is an attempted coup in D.C. aided abetted by the likes of that asshole judge in Hawaii and, of course, cheered on by the Fake News Media.
