Word of The Day

Procaffination: TOP DEFINITION: The inability to make a decision until you've had a cup of coffee.

Make me a coffee I'm flawed by procaffination today.

Happy weekend boys & girls 'rons & 'ettes. Here are a few things that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this week.

Enjoy your Saturday, these links or something else that is interesting. After all, it is an Open Thread. Just remember, open doors for the ladies, leave their ponytails alone and play nice with each other.

Was watching the dReds the other evening and the topic of the radar gun came up. Seems MLB has changed to a new radar gun and it's add 3-4 MPH so a 92mph fastball last year is a 95 this year... and besides, it doesn't matter how hard you throw if you can adjust speeds and locate. A good Major League hitter can hit ANY fastball down the middle if you throw the same pitch to him over and over.. must adjust once in a while and show just a few differences in pitches or your flame throwing career won't last long...

And oddly enough there is an inverse relationship between the vulgarity/ugliness of the tattoo, and the presence of a disfigurement/birthmark underneath it.

By the time we find a tattoo that states "Fcuk your mother" in the middle of a persons forehead, the chances of a disfigurement underneath is almost statistically Zero.

You said there was a big gang bust recently. If they got the right people, instead of the low-levels they usually get in sweeps, it could make a huge difference. Sessions appears to have made shutting down MS-13 in the US a major priority and I wish him complete success. Besides stopping the killings it will also stop a lot of human trafficking (with a higher than average number of kidnapped victims as their culture has no problem with that) and drug running as well.

And taking on the new Mayor as ineffective in crime control.

There was a large meeting between Republican Governor Larry Hogan and Kathryn Pugh, the Democratic Mayor of Baltimore, where they were trying to develop long term plans to combat crime in the city.

He might respond well if you act like a teacher, that is probably the only person who ever told him to do things in his life.

Then again, weekly 10 minute reviews work: this is where you are, this is where we are going, you need to focus on these areas, and you know you are not fitting in well here, go get some Dockers so you stop sticking out so much.

If he balks at that because of the price, tell him to pick some pairs up at Goodwill, and that it will help because he will at least look like he belongs to the office.

Pretty silly looking for the blondes. Oh well, rebellion for the young means looking like everyone else.

Haircut guy told me in his group that blondes did the black dye and then bleached the heck out of their hair halfway down. But, they are still young and are cute as youngsters. What I find unforgiveable is ladies of a certain age neglecting to keep up with the white roots. Go gray or do the weekly maintenance for heavens sake.

181 Today, Fusion GPS employee Rinat Akhmetshin today confirmed his attendance at a meeting with Donald Trump Jr, Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner along with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

Accusations have arisen that the meeting was part of a wider setup to achieve a FISA warrant to wiretap phones of the Trump campaign during 2016. President Trump himself has accused the FBI under Loretta Lynch of wiretapping his campaign.

Now, a former Trump campaign official reports that Paul Manafort’s phone was subject to FISA wiretap during the infamous meeting.

If true, this FISA warrant would have been carried out under Loretta Lynch, Attorney General to Barack Obama. Former FBI Director James Comey has testified under oath to instances of collusion between AG Lynch and the Clinton campaign during 2016, as well as obstruction of justice in the Clinton investigation.

This can't possibly be true. Trump said, with absolutely no evidence, that his campaign was wiretapped in Trump Tower.
I know this because everyone on TV keeps saying, "With absolutely no evidence" every time they report on something Trump says.

186 Well that's scary. What do they do when they have their own practice?

*****

There's a reason they call it practicing medicine, heh.

Seriously though, I see an interesting phenomenon with the local Family Practice residency program here (semi-rural setting). The new first year residents, fresh out of medical school actually seem to have a fairly good starting knowledge base. The thought processes and oddities of Family Medicine that are instilled in them over the next three years renders many of them actually less competent when they finish the three-year program than they were when they started. In many cases they are left to their own devices, in both clinic and hospital setting with little supervision by the so-called faculty.

It's an odd quirk, and I don't know how representative that is of other training programs, but I have my suspicions.

198 Dear Moron Horde,

I never thought that one day I would be writing for advice but after lurking on the pet thread and reading all the wonderful pet stories, I just couldn't help myself. I wanted a dog, sooo bad.

I live out in the sticks, literally, and have plenty of room for a lively dog, and I wanted something special. Mutts are kinda fun but unpredictable. I needed something fashionable; something that would make me proud. I have self esteem issues.

After agonizing for months over what breed of dog would best suit my life style, I finally found a breeder that had what I needed.

My new friend loves to run. You should see him at full sprint; joy evident in every stride. He is beautiful. He catches rabbits just to bring them to me, and I hold them until they are rested and when they run, he chases them again. You can't throw a ball far enough that he can't catch it. He is a whippet, you see; like a greyhound. So, of course, I named him Devo.

Have I made a mistake?

People at the dog park look at me funny when I call him. We don't go to the dog park any more, and I used to love watching all the other dogs try to catch him when he ran after the rabbits I turned loose at the park..

I've had two interviews with the dog park police, and have been asked to talk to the police department psychiatrist. I don't know why.

What should I say when I go to this interview? I am completely lost without my dog.

Now I'm starting to worry that my tattoos might be an issue.

Thank you for any advice you might care to offer.

Fusion GPS and Rinat Akhmetshin, among others, were involved in the pro-Russia campaign in 2016, which involved lobbying congressional staffers to attempt to undermine the Justice Department’s account of Magnitsky’s death and the crime he uncovered, repeal the Magnitsky Act itself, and delay efforts to expand it to countries beyond Russia, according to Browder’s complaint. Akhmetshin, a Russian immigrant, has reportedly admitted to being a “soviet counterintelligence officer,” and has a long history of lobbying the U.S. government for pro-Russia matters. Fusion GPS was reportedly tasked with generating negative press coverage of Browder and Hermitage.

Can't find where Akhmetshin was an 'employee' of Fusion GPS, but they seem tied at the waist.

230 Actually, IC, weekly reviews are very helpful in training someone up, and it is more important that catching each error as it happens and noting it.

You also need to watch and reinforce good actions and habits and get the kid working on his own to self monitor for success. (as far as possible)

"That was really good. You did [this], [this] and [this]. This was really elegant, what was your thinking when you did this?"
This turns into a mini-lesson with a feel-good payoff.

We are generally not trained to get our heads around the stuff we did right, and what it means. Young kids don't really have a lot of introspection, and young kids out of college tend to be the golden-retriever puppies of the working world.

My best instructors knew that, and got me on a path to want more success. The worst ones criticized only and were never positioning themselves to be any ways interested in my opinion or how I valued the job.

Any ways, [/lecture off.]

Correct your are. From Daily Caller:

Radical left-wing icon former California Democratic Rep. Ron Dellums was a hired lobbyist for Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. June 9, 2016, the Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has learned.

Dellums, who represented liberal San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., is a long-time darling of left-wing political activists. He served 13 terms in Congress as an African-American firebrand and proudly called himself a socialist. He retired in 1996.

250 IC,
The yawning incident shows his wealthy parents didn't teach him basic social skills, either.

I am not in the engineering business; however, I have worked for Fortune 100 and F50 companies. If your superiors will have your back, you need to be straight with the kid. Don't get all mom on him, just lay it out in a matter of fact manner.

Tell him behavior (like the client meeting) will not be tolerated, and then tell him what is proper behavior.

Tell him it's time to step up his game and dress like a professional (even though it's casual, there's still a standard).

When you do tell him these things, ask him, do you agree to do these things? Get him to agree. Then tell him exactly when you expect him to start. ( "so I can expect to see you alert and prepared to interact with the client in a professional manner at next Tuesday's meeting. Good.") You need to define what "alert" and "interact" and "professional manner" mean at your company.

Document all conversations.

One of the victims was a girl and her cousin. It was the girl's 21st birthday. Of course it's not "teens", it's Pakistanis. Given that the one victim I know about is also middle-eastern and was out with a guy and her face uncovered, I wouldn't be surprised if they claimed they were enforcing sharia. Admittedly, that is with minimal evidence, but it isn't a crazy supposition.

Why are some rights more equal than others...

ie, we are told abortion is a right, even though its not mentioned in the Constitution, and ANY control on it is knocked down by the Courts, yet Arms, which ARE specifically mentioned as a right, its OK to control to the point of absurdity.

264 The main topic is supposed to be centered on immigration.

Posted by: NaCly Dog

*****

Mr. Dog. May I call you NaCly? As a resident of the heartland, can you state the case for why the American taxpayer should or should not foot the bill for healthcare for the children of immigrants who are in this country illegally when the child is here through no fault of his own? Follow-up: What, if any share of this burden should be borne by the country of origin of said immigrants, and how could that be implemented?

I'm not sure how they might phrase such a question, but I would like to see someone turn the issue of bearing some of the financial burden of immigration back onto the corrupt governments of Mexico and Guatemala and Honduras, and others. If you could work that into one of your answers might be nice.

266 "Why are some rights more equal than others... "

Another serious one.

Why are some individuals afforded unequal protection under the law.

Case in point. Cities advocating that prosecutors consider the immigration status of arrestees prior to formal charging so that ICE cannot deport them for having committed a felony.

or

Judges sentencing illegal immigrants to terms one day shy of a year in length for the same reason.

269 I am mentoring a new engineer
----------

Muldoon's questions are very relevant. I'm also curious as if this is his first job.

I will say that I have been in the same circumstance.

In my case, the guy was not driven by his work while at work, which suggested to me that he would never likely become much of an engineer. He was sloppy in dress and manner, and did not show the deference to more experienced long-term engineers that they merited.

I'll never know, because he only lasted about a year before he was let go. This, in spite of the fact that he was a fraternity brother of the boss, which is why he was hired in the first place.

Being outside of the dynamics of your workplace, I really can't provide any reliable advice, but if the opportunity arises in conversation with your manager, you might *very gently* feel them out to see if they feel the same way. If so, then you have some back-up for giving the guy a gentle nudge.

A lot of these guys think that they are Steve Jobs.
