Clint Eastwood Casts Roles of Heroic Soldiers Who Stopped Terrorist on Paris Train;
The Actors He Selected Are the Soldiers Themselves

Clint Eastwood is The Man.

Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone will play themselves in the upcoming movie about their experience thwarting a terrorist attack.

I don't know what this feeling I have is. Is it... hope?

Been a while.

I don't think all actors are stupid. I think the vast majority have no idea what they are talking about once they get out of their comfort zone which seems to be largely limited to who is hot in Hollywood and who is not and other weighty topics and I do take offense when they and the media push their largely unthoughtful positions on politics, race relationships, foreign affairs and other issue on me.

When they start asking my opinion on things, and I am at a hell of a lot more informed on most of those topics than the vast majority of actors who seem to feel the need to talk about everything. then I might consider listening to theirs.

George Clooney is a fabulously successful actor who loves to lecture us on why we should take in more refugees while he flees to his walled and guarded estate. I always thought it was the friggin' haircuts.

Story Time ... and I'll swear on any book of your choice regarding the truthfullness.

I was at Ft. Stewart for training - we were attached to the 24th Mech. Got liberty. Went to Savannah Beach with dudes and one chic. Chic decided to stay at hotel - so all dudes decided the same.

Not my dumb ass. Went out. Drank. Ended up at graduation party. Shagged chic in dunes. Cool. Good Times. We go back and hang out.

Fucking no. Jarheads show up at party. Pick me out of the crowd. I end up fighting a shitty withdrawal that morphed into a full-blown run down an alley while two of those bastards are swinging shit at me.

I think because I got laid and they got pissed because they didn't. The chic was 18. I was 21. Honestly - I have no idea.

Yay Marines !!!

And so ends Story Time.

Just saying the truth - but you're welcome.

I wish I'd have done the set-design thing in high school. I'm not bad at that kind of shit. And it might have been a fun way to make a living.

Anytime I see the "behind the special effects" kind of shit - I always kick myself in the ass. I know over half of that stuff ... the servos, remotes, blah blah blah.

Going to Disney or Universal always wears me out. I know that stuff. I do that basic level of automation. But I hear it doesn't pay well.

180 One of the reasons I love watching movies over and over is to catch actors in minor roles earlier in their careers. Also, lots of present movies suck. So anyway, i caught a scene in Shakespeare in Love where the Fiennes Skakespeare kid crashes the Queen's party as a musician, and he has a quick exchange with one of the REAL minstrels, as he is eyeing GPaltrow (spit, spit). The minstrel is NOW that awesome swordsman who is Jamie Lannister's bodyguard/sidekick in GoT.

Ace is a conservative, and as such, a traditionalist. Since the Air Force used to be part of the Army, Ace is just harkening back to that bygone tradition where the airmen were soldiers.

By the way, using abbreviations for some of the branches and the full name for others... Dude, that's just wrong on an aesthetic level. Come on, people gotta look at that.

How terrifying and humiliating for that woman. From the looks of it, the "Celestial Church of Christ" appears to be a storefront church in a rough neighborhood, so I'm thinking black church lady assaulted by godless black youths. She's probably older than their mothers.

As P. J. O'Rourke sad about people who fret about or sneer at Christians - say you find yourself in a crap neighborhood after dark and see a bunch of young men headed your way. Would you be safer if they were a bunch of guys heading home from choir practice - or a bunch of guys in gang colors?

394 hey, bluebell, my sister just told me a story you'd appreciate. We went to Catholic grade school and for some reason 3 or 4 of the nuns were from Boston, sent to convert us heathen Midwesterners I guess. They tended to be pretty old school and tough (the Midwestern ones were all VII Sr. Mary Pantsuits) , but one of them Sr. Priscilla (or Sr. Prisciller, as she pronounced it), had a pretty good sense of humor.

One of my sister's classmates was mad at her for making him stay after school and diagram sentences and said in the hallway, "Sr. Priscilla can go to hell!" not knowing she was right behind him. She said, "I already been to hell, kid. I was in a convert in New York surrounded by Yankees fans for 6 years. Hell can't be worse that that."

(And then she told him he'd have to stay after school again.)

No. But some Sailors (Corpsmen and Religious Programmers and Chaplains) serve in Marine units - they do all the same stuff and wear the same field uniforms and gear.

Some Marines, generally senior Enlisted and experienced Junior Officers, are part of ships company on Amphibious ships, in charge of Combat Cargo. We put the Gunnery Sergeants through Chief's initiation if they want. There used to be detachments on CVNs and BBs, but that went away 25 years (or more) ago.

423 "I agree with you, but you're going against the prevailing view here that most actors are stupid and that there is nothing requiring any intelligence or thoughtfulness or effort in acting. I also think it would be hard to go into the movies having had no experience acting at all. Even for actors who have mostly done stage work, film work is a big change"

I guess I'm assuming Mr. Eastwood tested them before deciding if they could act well enough to be on screen.

426 I don't think taking the name of the Lord in vain means what most people think. I believe ot means using the name of God to justify your questionable or evil actions, or to elicit respect from others.

430 It will be outlawed in the UK and Canada as Islamophobic. Probably banned in Sweden, too.

431 I wouldn't worry about the water bottles, they don't really go into their methodology and many bacteria double in under an hour, so those CFU counts can easily be exaggerated. This was marketing, not science.

432 What that feeling is: "Hope" and "Change", instead of the Hoping for spare Change that we got from President 44.
