Queen? Green Day? Let's Go With Queen:
65,000 Brits Sing Along to Bohemian Rhapsody...At A Green Day Concert

From Moe Lane....

This video of sixty five thousand people singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody is awesome. And also kind of humiliating for Green Day, because I don't think that people are going to gather forty years from now to belt out 'American Idiot' or 'Basket Case.' No, wait, that doesn't make it any less awesome**.

It's below the fold because the hamsters are near revolt, but it's worth a listen.

And Open Thread for any other awesomeness like this.

4 Green Day sucks, pure and simple. They got elected to the R&R HoF because of their Bush-bashing American Idiot album. There is nothing original or inventive in their music and they influenced no one.....

11 Ever hear a Welsh choir sing? They can sing anything, any genre, and range, anything and are just born with great voices and sense of melody. My dad could sing (Welsh ancestors) with a bass voice. My mom (mostly French) couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. This sounded like an enormous Welsh choir.

12 Interesting-- was Fusion trying to blackmail Trump with the fake dossier to get what they wanted?

Another player in the Russian influence scandal, the U.S.-based political firm Fusion GPS, was also involved in helping Prevezon, Katsyv and Baker Hostetler, according to the Grassley letter. Fusion has been a major focal point of the FBI and Congress because it hired a former British intelligence agent named Christopher Steele to produce a salacious intelligence dossier that made wild and still unsubstantiated claims about Trump ties to Russia.

18 Don't think I could pick a Green Day song out of a police lineup. I only know they exist because douchebags, once upon a time, raved about them for some reason.

So yeah, 40 year old songs have more lasting impressions than anything anyone is creating today. The nature of the music business has become more throwaway. Just another consumer "good" that gets consumed and left.

Is it art? Nah. Pretty much by definition, if the masses like it, it's not art.

19 On a certain level it frightens me that so many people actually know the words and music (more or less) to Bohemian Rhapsody. I have never understood the appeal of it myself.

And no, BR will not become some kind of classic for the masses. Queen's future claim to fame will rest on the cheesy We Are the Champions and We Will Rock You, which will probably be played at sporting events for generations to come.

Regardless, word on the street is Freddy Mercury banged anything and everything he could get his hands (and other parts) on. Bisexual apparently did not even begin to cover it. So I don't know what that means for the more or less gay counting stats, but generally, Freddy was more of everything.

Humans have been programmed.. yes, I said programmed, to hear and respond to sounds with a beat to it, and fit into a few narrowly channeled melody stylings.

It's no more art than the sound a jackhammer makes, or any machine that whistles and whines.

Art comes in when an actual human being expresses thoughts and feelings in a way that is both original and elicits thoughts and feelings.

Causing humans to respond like animals is not original. And the music industrial complex these days is all about selling reworked gibberish, because people buy it.

Yup. NSTEMI attack suffered almost immediately after having climbed a 20 foot high rock face and rappelled back down on a camping trip with the very same Scouts on 6/17. I was in the ER 90 minutes after symptoms started and catheterized and stented for a 90% blockage brought on by the stress from the climb within 3-1/2 hours. Recovering well, but need rehab to bring pumping effectiveness back to more normal levels. Doing well except I get fatigued more easily in the summer heat and humidity.

---

Pink Floyd is "prog rock" which is sort of "music for college intellectuals that you listen to while getting stoned."

The Who is "rock" which is sort of "music you listen to before going out and rioting."

Also.. The Who is big into charity, and have done a lot of performances to help Americans when there were things like natural disasters.

So.. from a personal standpoint... The Who> Pink Floyd> Roger Waters.

/also... Roger Daltry of come out and said he does not hate Donald Trump and that a dead dog would have beaten Hillary in the election.

181 148 The joke with Queen was that Freddie Mercury wasn't "out" even though his being gay was incredibly obvious -- beyond Liberace. In the 1970s it was still a potential career killer.

Go figure.

186 Where does AoS stand on Marine-Hat-Gate?

Earlier today, as Trump boarded his helicopter, the wind blew the hat off a Marine standing guard. Trump, like a regular respectful human being, chased down the hat, picked it up, and put it back on the Marine's head, since the Marine was under orders to ceremonially stand guard and not move. But the wind from the copter's rotors blew the hat off again, so for a SECOND time Trump chased down the hat and picked it up and gave it back to the Marine this time, and patted him on the arm and said something friendly:

That has been my theory about Democrat candidates. Why are they always such crap? I think that if Carly Fiorina ran as a Dem, their voters would prefer Hillary, because Carly is smart and not a loser, and Hillary only got where she is by riding on her husband's coattails. Carly would arouse their envy. Hillary, their pity.

Once upon a time, at least in my little suburban midwestern world, people didn't talk about "gay."

It's not that it was bad, it just wasn't on the radar. At all.

And if it was, it was a word kids used to insult each other, and then it wasn't used that much.

So if people didn't realize that there were lots of gay celebrities, I think it was because that sort of thing wasn't discussed or thought about. Like "femnine hygine" or "erectile dysfunciton."

good times.

Hmmm....

I see your point, but wonder whether the entire crowd knows the lyrics to any of Green Day's songs?

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at July 09, 2017 12:32 PM (wYseH)

Probably. They are at a Green Day concert afterall.

However, they're not all going to stop what they're doing and sing along to it when its just playing as background music before a concert starts.

She keeps Moet et Chandon
In her pretty cabinet
'Let them eat cake,' she says
Just like Marie Antoinette
A built-in remedy
For Kruschev and Kennedy
At anytime an invitation
You can't decline

Caviar and cigarettes
Well versed in etiquette
Extraordinarily nice

She's a Killer Queen
Gunpowder, gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind

241 This was at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Blondie and Garbage are on tour together. Friday was their second show on this tour.

Oh I saw Lyle Lovett and Emmylou Harris there last July when I was visiting your neck of the woods. What a beautiful venue, and of course the weather was perfect.

242 There must be some serious transference-fantasy things going on in that band's fan base.

"Wow! This guy can't sing to save his life and yet somehow he's a millionaire rock star! This must mean that I could be too! Walter Mitty powers, activate!"

Being able to sing properly has never really been a requirement for popularity in rock. See: Quiet Riot attempting to tank Cum on Feel the Noize by intentionally singing it badly, and it became one of their biggest hits.

243 An Oregon man in Jackson County Oregon is accused of sexually molesting a chicken.

Joshua Brian Woltmon, 27 was booked into Jackson County Jail earlier this week on charges of sexual assault of an animal, public indecency, menacing, and disorderly conduct. It is alleged that he "unlawfully and for the purpose of arousing and gratifying the sexual desire of a person [touched or contacted] the sex organs of a chicken."

His bail is set at $20,500. (He was also booked on a probation violation for meth possession.)

The Chicken has asked for reminders not to cross the road into Oregon.

To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness
Met a man from China
Went down to Geisha Minah
Then again incidentally
If you're that way inclined

Perfume came naturally from Paris
For cars she couldn't care less
Fastidious and precise

She's a Killer Queen
Gunpowder, gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind

245 Just heard they remade one of the stupidest "kids" movies Jumanji, with The Rock and Kevin Hart. No thanks.

My kids loved Jumanji. They really thought some parts were very scary and liked the game aspect of it.

So... was the "subtle thing" at the 4:00 min. mark of the Bohemian Rhapsody the fact that everyone started head banging?

probably is someone, but for the life of me, I can't come up with
anyone on the right who is as nuts as even an average liberal.

248 There's an interesting study .....

What rock song's lyrics are known by the greatest number of people?
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at July 09, 2017 12:30 PM (wYseH)

I'm guessing "Louie, Louie".

249 Best Green Day concert footage I've ever seen. Those whiny old no-talent asshats should stay off the stage more often.

251 3 IMO, when you go to a concert, the singing should be left to the professionals.
