Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Another Scoop from Carter & Solomon: Andrew McCabe Under Investigation for Violations of the hosta ActThe charge seems a little ticky-tack, but Mueller is trying to get Flynn and Trump on ticky-tack crap, so if the rules forbid ticky-tack crap, then they forbid ticky-tack crap for everybody. cting FBI Director Andrew McCabe is being investigated by the Office of U.S. Special Counsel for violating The hosta Act that prohibits FBI agents from campaigning in partisan races. The Office of U.S. Special Counsel, the government’s main whistleblower agency, is investigating whether FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s activities supporting his wife Jill’s Democratic campaign for Virginia state senate in 2015 violated the hosta Act’s prohibition against FBI agents campaigning in partisan races.I bet they'll find that McCabe lacked intent to do the thing he intentionally did. There's video at the link, and additional details, like the disclosure that McCabe met with Terry McAuliffe in 2015 (along with his wife, in a candidate-recruitment pitch). Remember, McCabe was the head clown in the circus that whitewashed Hillary Clinton's Espionage Act violations. Mc Cabe was in charge of that investigation, even though his wife was being financed by Hillary Clinton's Democrat Party.
Jill McCabe didn't raise much money, Terry McAwful gave her much of her campaign funds from the Democrat Party slush funds. If I remember correctly, she also didn't get many votes either? Posted by: rd at June 27, 2017 04:39 PM (4dz1m) Posted by: J.J. Sefton at June 27, 2017 04:39 PM (mbhDw) 11

Being in the FBI means McCabe is subject to the stricter rules in the Hatch act for intelligence community members. The rules are a little fuzzy to me with regards to social media, but if he so much as licked a stamp for his wife's campaign he's violated it.
Seriously. The government website on it goes into a question about of helping clean the house prior to a fundraiser is a violation (I think it might have been). But he's a higher up so the rules never apply to them just the underlings. Posted by: Tsrblke at June 27, 2017 04:40 PM (dzmBR) Posted by: rd at June 27, 2017 04:40 PM (4dz1m) Posted by: J.J. There were once again a flood of Hatch Act violations, incredibly obvious ones, for the entire duration of the Obama administration. Trump invites Wray and McCabe to the Whitehouse to celebrate his appointment. While the cameras are running, Trump turns to McCabe, and tells him he is a miserable partisan hack, and "You Are Fired!" Imagine the headlines? The exploding heads!? ... And as they leave, Wray says to McCabe, "Andrew, sit in front." As they turn out the front gate, "Andrew, can we drop you off somewhere?" ace, I think several things already known render this far from "ticky-tack" or unfair - that is, applying Hatch Act restrictions and considerations.
First was the gross violation of same by cabinet-level members under Obama (help me out here - Sibelius? Others, I think?). Gross, obvious, jaw-dropping sorts of violations. The sort of brazen lawlessness that first sheepishly peeked out from behind the curtain in the Clinton years, then became in-your-face contemptuous under Obama. Second, it's the FBfuckingI. Not the Bureau of Land Management, or some obscure bureau at Commerce. The top federal law enforcement agency. The number 2 guy. McCabe, just based on the basic facts given in your post, is as guilty as Clinton and Co. are for massive criminal violations of the Espionage Act and the Public Records Act (also beyond question, based on publicly known info alone). Dishonorable men will do dishonorable things. That's what used to make America exceptional. The concept of honor. Morality. It's been lost for decades. The honorable were able to overcome the dishonorable at one time. It's one reason the GOP gets pushed around so much. They try to follow the rules and tradition and their opponents have no rules. You can't win in the long run in that scenario .

Sorry. I am personally sick of the incestuous local, state, and federal government generational involvement. But the worst are not the families that are directly involved with the government. The worst are the one step removed, setting up for obvious corruption and conflict of interest. The spouse of the NEA union official running for the school board, or the state legislature. Where they have enormous say about funding the teacher salaries and benefits. A lot of the problem are us voters, with name recognition, and "a history of service." We allow this to happen. Nah, "free speech" isn't even tangentially engaged a as a topic. And for sake of discussion, assuming it is, it's easily disposed of.
Oh - and not through the idiotic confected pseudo-framework of "rational scrutiny" for repealing constitutional rights - but through simple common sense. People in places of public trust, on the public dime, cannot be, or be seen or perceived to be, partisan in any formal way. Unless one wants to dispose of the entire concept or principle of public servants, public institutions, etc. Simple conflict of interest, intolerably glaring, is the obvious problem. rd is correct - at bottom it's the voters who are responsible for our situation, by not rejecting each (hell, any) step in the process.
Hatch Act restrictions are seen as a god-send by actual public servants, even on the Hill, where technically all staff are patronage hires, but only one exempted person per office (not campaign office) is allowed to be specifically political. Any "injury" to freedom or free speech, from a spouse not being able to electioneer for their partner (as in this case), is such a tiny one, in comparison to the Himalayas of shredded constitutional rights the cretinous judiciary has left in its disastrous wake, as to be undetectable.
