Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Whoa: Three CNN Personnel Connected to #FakeNews Russia Report "Resign"I didn't believe that CNN would actually discipline anybody. For once, I was wrong about CNN. Wow, they really must have done something wrong here.Three CNN staffers have resigned following the publication and subsequent retraction of a story linking a Trump transition team member to the Russia-related investigations. The piece, published late last week, cited an anonymous source saying the Senate Intelligence Committee was looking into the chief executive of a $10-billion Russian investment fund who met with financier Anthony Scaramucci before the inauguration. The reporter, Pulitzer-prize nominee Thomas Frank, assistant managing editor Eric Lichtblau (who recently joined from the New York Times) and Lex Haris, the executive editor in charge of investigations, are all out. "In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication," CNN said in a statement.Scaramucci threatened a lawsuit, Politico reports, but media companies are used to that and usually ignore such threats. Price of doing business. If they pulled this down in reaction to that threat, they must have been pretty sure they'd lose. Meanwhile, Jim Acosta keeps whining that he doesn't get to play pretend Hero of #TheResistance with cameras on in the White House briefings:

They're vulnerable to libel actions, and are only just now waking up to it. I'm not certain of this, but there was a question above about forcing MSM to reveal sources: Ordinarily this comes up in criminal cases where the reporter is in effect a witness and the reporter becomes famous by serving some time for contempt, and that's the end of it. But I'd bet that when it's MSM getting sued in a libel case, the plaintiff gets a favorable inference if the reporter doesn't give up the source. See? CNN is an honorable news source for doing this and not a "fake news" source just as a temp fill-in at Insty's told us on the weekend!
------------------ CNN SCRUBS TRUMP STORY: On Thursday, CNN published a damning report alleging ties between the President's associates and a Russian investment fund. Last night, CNN pulled the story altogether with a complete retraction, not a correction. The original story said the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a "$10-billion Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump's transition team four days before Trump's inauguration." "That story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted," CNN said in an editors note posted in place of the story. "Links to the story have been disabled." I've given many lectures about the difference between "fake news" and "wrong news." Not everyone agrees with me, but I insist that one of the distinctions is accountability. Fake news sites never correct a falsehood, while news sites that get it wrong (as CNN did here) will correct or retract. That's not to downplay "wrong" news. A lie travels around the world before the truth is even out of bed, and often businesses and reputations are at stake, not to mention the notion of an informed electorate. People still think President Bush served a plastic turkey as a photo-op to troops in Baghdad, despite the New York Times correcting that canard albeit a week later. So the guy at 203 took up the challenge ... and beat the crap out of both of them. So they changed their estimate to be something like 300 ... but that same guy had lost a bunch of matches and his rank dropped to 3-something so he said that he would play them again. They then shut up about it and never played another guy. 700 might well be the correct number. It's certainly nothing above 400, for sure. Some of the most damning evidence against CNN comes from a Washington Times op-ed by Peter Collins (“Corruption at CNN – April 15, 2003 – http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20030415-91009640.htm). Collins briefly worked for the network in Baghdad and sat in on talks involving executives Eason Jordan and Tom Johnson, who were trying to negotiate an exclusive interview with Saddam Hussein:
“The day after one such meeting, I was on the roof of the Ministry of Information, preparing for my first ‘live shot’ on CNN. A producer came up and handed me a sheet of paper with handwritten notes. ‘Tom Johnson wants you to read this on camera,’ he said. I glanced at the paper. It was an item-by-item summary of points made by Information Minister Latif Jassim in an interview that morning with Mr. Johnson and Mr. Jordan. “The list was so long that there was no time during the live shot to provide context. I read the information minister’s points verbatim. Moments later, I was downstairs in the newsroom on the first floor of the Information Ministry. Mr. Johnson approached, having seen my performance on a TV monitor. ‘You were a bit flat there, Peter,’ he said. Again, I was astonished. The president of CNN was telling me I seemed less-than-enthusiastic reading Saddam Hussein’s propaganda.” ---Honest Reporting Posted by: Planted Right Wing AutoCommenter at June 26, 2017 07:41 PM (B9t7n) 245

Yeah ... she beat Riggs ... after he had taken on the women's world #1 and beat the living shit out of her, something like 6-1, 6-1. "Shmuck Shumer made a big point yesterday about how
the Ds were going to have a new economic agenda in a month that they were going to run on 2018. 'We should have had in 2016 and before.'" The Democrats *did* have a big new economic agenda in 2016. It's just that the electorate thought it was a load of dingoes' kidneys. For instance, Hillary repeatedly trumpeted to audiences how she was going to put Bill in charge of resuscitating the economy. Whereupon a bunch of people looked at the haggard, sallow Bill, slouched there with his mouth hanging open and a vacant stare, and thought, "Holy cats, this guy looks like he needs resuscitation himself. Bring the defib machine and the oxygen tank, stat!" Not to mention that Hillary repeatedly referring to the need to get the economy moving again may well have been indignantly parsed by some of the Obama faithful as being _lese-majeste_ against the guy who had, y'know, been in charge of the economy for the preceding eight years. On the bumper sticker front, I had a sudden epiphany the other day, when I saw a fading "Clinton-Kaine 2016" logo.
Hillary never had much bumper sticker enthusiasm here in the SF Bay Area. Sanders, in the primaries, dwarfed her in numbers. But of the bumper stickers for her which did get put in cars, virtually none of them mentioned her running mate. Kaine was invisible. I think the sticker I saw was only the second one. Compare and contrast this to 2008 and 2012. It was "Obama-Biden" all the way down the line. The veep was heavily featured. I'm still pondering the implications here. Was it that Creepy Clown Kaine had terrible popularity numbers even in Democratic fever swamps like this one? Or was a reminder of one of the hated pale penis people being on Hillary's ticket proving offensive to the Bay Area's fervent identity-politics blocs? Posted by: t-bird at June 26, 2017 07:53 PM (29QcC) Actually, you can see girls playing guys in the mixed doubles events (which no one watches ... because they're stupid). You do get to see women returning serves from guys hitting them at 130mph, and they can get some back. But, clearly, they'd do worse against the guys than they do against Serena ... and they don't fair too well against her. The comparison is probably not much different from what it would be in any sport. The women's world record holder in the 100 meter would probably rank down in the 1000s if compared with the men's times. Same for pretty much everything athletic. Women are always about 15% behind the men, which in ranking terms puts the best woman in the world down about 1000 (or 2000) in the men's rankings. The FBI will not confirm or deny the existence of records showing whether the bureau paid the researcher behind the unverified, controversial dossier alleging ties between President Donald Trump and Russia. Christopher Steele, a former British spy, gathered information for the dossier while working for a Washington research firm that supporters of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign hired. Trump has denied that the dossier is true while Steele has said parts of it are unverified. The Washington Post reported earlier this year that Steele had reached an agreement with the FBI a few weeks before Election Day in November to continue investigating then-candidate Trump. ======= If I were Trump, I'd remove every last person I could at the FBI. Holy FUCK. You know what? I just remembered something from law school. Some insignificant little case from 19th century Louisiana about what qualifies as a "privilege" of being an American citizen.
IIRC, A Louisiana municipality tried to monopolize a certain trade. A practitioner of that trade sued and won at the Supreme Court on the theory that the right to earn one's living was an inalienable privilege of being an American. Details are, of course, fuzzy, but that might be very interesting in context of any future attempts by leftists to nationalize healthcare. Doctors could just... opt out. Practice privately. Doctors now opt out of insurance, and opt out of Medicaid. Many have opted out of Medicare all for the same reasons. They can't run a practice with the low reimbursement coupled with government requirements for treatment.
A lot of middle age physicians have started to go into concierge practice because they can eliminate the insurance crap. It's the older physicians who are still taking Medicare or the hospitalists. Which means you might not be getting cutting edge or fully up to date medical care. Unless you have access to a research hospital or one connected with a university, the local hospitals might be a roll of the dice. Posted by: Jen the original at June 26, 2017 08:45 PM (tCSTx) 553

Burnt Toast, that was cruel.
But fair. So - you submitting a burnt toast recipe? Seems only fitting. Meanwhile, from the FBI/Flynn article at Circa dot com: - As far as the troops in the field, the vast majority were disgusted with the Russia decision, but that was McCabe driving the result that eventually led Comey to make the decision," said a senior federal law enforcement official, with direct knowledge of the investigation. - A fair number of i's to dot, and things to get put in context, but ...... potential "whoa". With great luck, we might be looking at a 100-megaton melt-down role-reversal scandal wherein PDT's tormentors implode, across the board. We'll see. harvard reported that 93% on cnn's reports on trump were negative. how much of their news was trump/russia? 90%? seems like it... in the entirety of the world and all that is happening, in wars, treaties, natural disasters, achievements, on the entire earth, they only report that story.

There was an episode of King of the Hill about Hank having no ass. It made riding the lawn mower a problem for him, or something. Peggy got him some ass pads, IIRC. He was ashamed, but wore them proudly at the end. Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at June 26, 2017 09:31 PM (8O3HH) Frank Sinatra wore ass pads, or so I read. Bobby was seeing a girl with progressive (their words) parents, and Hank insisted they all chaperone their dates. So while at the ice cream parlor, they run into friends of the proggy parents. Hank says "we're chaperoning," the friend snarkily says "Chaperone? Way to go, Ronald Reagan." Bobby's girlfriend's dad says "Don't call me that!" & Hank says "Yeah! Don't call him that!"

The FBI launched a criminal probe against former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn two years after the retired Army general roiled the bureau's leadership by intervening on behalf of a decorated counterterrorism agent who accused now-Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe and other top officials of sexual discrimination, according to documents and interviews.
Flynn' intervention on behalf of Supervisory Special Agent Robyn Gritz was highly unusual, and included a letter in 2014 on his official Pentagon stationary, a public interview in 2015 supporting Gritz's case and an offer to testify on her behalf. His offer put him as a hostile witness in a case against McCabe, who was soaring through the bureau's leadership ranks. The FBI sought to block Flynn's support for the agent, asking a federal administrative law judge in May 2014 to keep Flynn and others from becoming a witness in her Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) case, memos obtained by Circa show. Two years later, the FBI opened its inquiry of Flynn. The EEOC case, which is still pending, was serious enough to require McCabe to submit to a sworn statement to investigators, the documents show. The deputy director's testimony provided some of the strongest evidence in the case of possible retaliation, because he admitted the FBI opened an internal investigation into Gritz's personal conduct after learning the agent "had filed or intended to file" a sex discrimination complaint against her supervisors. McCabe eventually became the bureau's No. 2 executive and emerged as a central player in the FBI's Russia election tampering investigation, putting him in a position to impact the criminal inquiry against Flynn. Three FBI employees told Circa they personally witnessed McCabe make disparaging remarks about Flynn before and during the time the retired Army general emerged as a figure in the Russia case.
