Love Trumps Hate, They Threatened: Swishy Bankrupt Actor Most Famous For Silly Hats and Stupid Accents Dreams About Assassinating the President
The name "Johnny Depp" is synonymous for "late in age one-note formerly famous person who is broke and is now making even more awful movies than he used to.
So now he's musing about the last time an actor killed a president, and wondering if it isn't time for another one to do the same. The Secret Service should take this seriously -- Johnny Depp has been alleged to have a history of violence, though usually against women even smaller than himself.The Black Mass actor split [with Amber Heard] last year amid accusations he was abusive, and although he has always denied the claims, The Management Group (TMG) stated they knew he was 'volatile' in filings submitted as part of their ongoing legal battle with their famous former client. In documents submitted this week, the company said: 'During his recent divorce from Amber Heard, Depp publicly and repeatedly denied having physically assaulted his former wife and accused her of manufacturing the allegations to 'extend her 15 minutes of fame'. 'However, [TMG were] informed well after the fact through communications with various house staff and security that Depp had been extremely volatile and sometimes "gotten physical" with Heard. [They] were also later informed that Depp had violently kicked Heard during an incident that took place in or around 2014.' During the bitter divorce battle, Amber made public texts she had exchanged with the 54-year-old star's assistant, in which the employee apologised for his boss' behaviour, but the actor denied the texts were real - a claim which TMG dispute.Heard later settled for $7 million, with no party admitting fault.This article mentions other instances of Depp's alleged "volatility."
The deal came on the eve of a hearing scheduled to begin on Wednesday and last five days, unleashing combative, high-priced lawyers to battle over lurid claims of jealous paranoia, drunken rages, manipulative greed and a severed fingertip. Heard, 30, filed for divorce in May and obtained a temporary restraining order, alleging her Oscar-nominated husband assaulted her after a drunken argument in their LA apartment. Her filing said Depp, 53, “began obsessing over something that wasn’t true” and “became extremely angry”, throwing a phone at Heard, striking her cheek and eye “with extreme force”. A separate statement from a friend of Heard’s who witnessed the scene, Raquel Pennington, supported Heard’s version, including a description of Depp swinging a magnum-sized bottle of wine “like a baseball bat”. Heard, who stars in the upcoming London Fields, supplied photographs of her bruised face and smashed wine bottles and said the incident fit a pattern of abuse, including a violent row in Australia which disrupted filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Io Tillett Wright, another friend of Heard’s, wrote in an essay for Refinery 29: “The reports of violence started with a kick on a private plane, then it was shoves and the occasional punch, until finally, in December, she described an all-out assault and she woke up with her pillow covered in blood. I know this because I went to their house. I saw the pillow with my own eyes. I saw the busted lip and the clumps of hair on the floor.”Apparently the "severed fingertip" claim went like this: Depp accidentally severed the tip of his finger when raging about his suspicions that Heard was having an affair with much-more-manly actor Billy Bob Thornton. So he "dipped the stump" into blue ink and wrote "Billy Bob" and "Easy Amber" on a mirror. Which isn't crazy or worrying at all, and the Secret Service should definitely not take a long look at this "volatile," drunk, financially distressed asshole. We have nothing to fear from broken drunks with Nothing Left to Lose.

I'd rather have states not do it at all.
The copyright thing though, should be due in the near future.
I know it's too much to ask for a roll back to the copyright regime of the early 20th century (a single 28-year period with an option to extend it for one more 28 year period), but could we at least not extend it any further?

I think there's a force multiplier in certain combinations, though. Robert Downey Jr. in a Marvel movie? Probably increases opening weekend a little bit. Downey Jr. in a little movie about a Judge in the country? Not so much.

Not all actors are lightweights. Actor Sterling Hayden was an OSS agent in WWII (parachuted into the Balkans to establish supply drops for resistance fighters) and then worked as a CIA operative after the war for several years.
Hayden was an internationally known actor, a Hollywood star. What better cover could there be? Even his wife didn't know.

I think that the effect has been in place for much longer, actually.
People wanted to see a particular type of movie in the 90s, it's just that they kept casting Arnold and Sly in about 90% of them.
It didn't help The Last Action Hero, though. A movie that looks and feels very different from The Terminator.

The sequel, Through the Looking Glass, was even worse. The most disappointing part for me was that it was directed by the guy who made the two most recent Muppets movies. Both of those were light and fast while TTLG was leaden and pretty much unwatchable.

Look at Schwarzenegger....he basically plays the same character in every movie, and in the movies he makes that are good....that character makes sense.
And the movies where it doesn't....aren't very good.

But a good actor puts in a good performance even if the director is a chimp. Lots of B (or C) movies have someone like Christopher Plummer or Christopher Lee or some other Christopher that do solid work every time they're on camera.
But I've also seen good directors get magic from shite, like in Punch Drunk Love with Adam Sandler.

Look at Schwarzenegger....he basically plays the same character in every movie, and in the movies he makes that are good....that character makes sense.
And the movies where it doesn't....aren't very good.

Acting is hard. Not a lot of people in movies ARE actors, most are just performers. Or, worse, 'stars'.
Gary Oldman can vanish into a role. You never see him, you see his character. Same with old Lauren Olivier.

Harrison Ford...in his prime

James Earl Jones....the best voice in Hollywood.

Well there's Toshiro Mifune....man that guy could act. Some of the stuff that came out of Hong Kong could be good....though the acting style there was a bit more over the top than we'd want in most dramas.
I dunno. Diversity cuts both ways. I've seen Othello played by white dudes and by black dudes. If you can get me to suspend my disbelief, I'll go along with most things.
But not Black/Asian/English Vikings, Thor....not that. Stupid movie...

In a spirit of friendliness and cooperation, I have agreed to furlough all the current residents of Gitmo so that they can personally attend the Oscars this year.
I have arranged for them to all be outfitted with monitoring bracelets, but owing to Hollywood's disagreement on the use of guns for self defense, I will not be sending any security agents with them...we will just pick them up afterwards.

That's a little harsh. Not everyone wants to get into it publicly on politics. I prefer that actors keep their yaps shut about politics, myself.
Also, living in California, I've had to endure any number of liberal rants in social occasions where saying anything in opposition, no matter how innocuous, would blow out the entire occasion (you know how liberals can be about this), and I don't want to be the person who precipitated a row.

I remember being a tyke and my parents took my sister and myself to the drive-in to see the initial Indiana Jones. We were so excited, when we got back we were bouncing off the walls, climbing up on furniture and jumping off. Since I've grown up, I've never taken an interest in anything he's done since. I think the last movie of his I saw was E.T.
He's basically a children's director, so it doesn't surprise me he has a child's knowledge of history. Or a child's mental grasp of reality.

If you have read the Longmire books, the series is barely tolerable because the casting is so unbelievably bad. The only two they got right was the guy Longmire himself and the secretary who truly runs things. Tiny little Lou Diamond Phillips does not make a believable Henry Standing Bear, who is supposed to be a very big guy, and Katee Sackhoff's constipated performance is worse than terrible as Victoria Manetti, the volatile Italian transplant from Philly.

I lived in Germany in the late 70's and and it was the current slang for that. I In casual conversation and grafitti the term was quite common.
I liked Johnnies earlier work, but I always chuckled at his name. He appears to want to live up to it.

This is the "safe-space" of the Hollywood washed-up and the self-promotional. So often when a movie is coming out, these a-holes cannot draw a crowd, so they spit out hate-Middle America or GOP du jour venom either on their own or at the direction of their studio agents. It's the safest possible position for them marketing-wise because there's almost no risk to denounce The Right or normal values in these Hollywood/Media/Academia cesspools. They are talking amongst themselves for affirmation and trying, simultaneously, to grab attention for crap-products few are interested in.
But for their idiocy and slander, few would glance their way. Their answer is to regurgitate that which their fellow travelers support in order to gain internal, industry support - with absolutely no risk or novelty - to further a disappearing career or product.

I recently read of an article about this scroungy weirdo. In 2009 his attorneys alerted him that the borrowing $$ well was quite dry and his loans to pay his debts were mounting as no money to pay. They advised him to cool it on his Christmas vacation that year.
His response? He had to buy presents for his kids (who, I think, were with his ex-wife somewhere). He also told the attorney that no way could he fly commercial airlines...like it was a rusted tug boat from Haiti. He had to fly in his private jet.
Oh, and he was also informed that his $2 million/month lifestyle could not continue. Ok. It is obvious that some of that goes right up his nose from the video...it sure as hell does not go for shampoo. He probably smells like a dumpster.
My favorite part of the story was him spending $3 million on an author (last name Thompson) to shoot his ashes out of a cannon.
This is Hollywood, peoples. Thank goodness they are Dimmycraps.
