Florida Sheriff: If You're Not Afraid of Guns, Then Get One

Not only is he advising people to arm up and keep their shooting skills honed, he's training personnel at a college in his jurisdiction to serve and protect in an active-shooter situation -- in fact, the moment an active-shooter situation is declared, they'll become legal deputies, granted legal authority to stop a crime in progress.

The countdown to the media savaging this guy and going through his garbage begins now.

"The armed assailant doesn't plan on you fighting back," said Sheriff Grady Judd. "He plans on having a gun, doing all the shooting, and you're just a sitting duck. Well, the ducks need to shoot back."

...

"If you're not afraid of a gun, get one," said the sheriff. "And if you need to shoot somebody, shoot 'em a lot."

Florida Man (Partly) Redeems Florida.

BTW, "Sheriff" is a contraction of "shire-reeve," or the keeper/protector of a shire.

1 I live one county over from him! This guy is our answer to the great Sheriff Arpaio from AZ. Wish more of our law enforcement had backbones, but who can blame them given what the left is doing to them!

6 The post office is a joke.

Got an e-mail that a package was undeliverable on Saturday. Undeliverable? I was home all day.

Did not leave a notice of attempted delivery.

Automated system demands notice # or tracking #.

Won't accept tracking #.

Waiting time to talk with a non-machine is 40 minutes.

What a joke.

Ah, Imperial Polk County. I knew it wasn't my local shire-reeve.

Sounds like a scam and when you opened the email a trojan horse probably downloaded to your hard drive.

10 I am a new resident to Brevard County. Right now it is only part time but will become permanent in the near future.

11 Doesn't matter if they go looking through his history, there's nothing there. He is 'by the book' from his cradle til now. I used to work valet on the side for pocket cash at local events. This guy would not even allow his plain Sheriff office issue sedan to be parked 150 feet away by us, back when he was a captain. We had to clear space close by so he could self park. The most egregious action I've ever seen him do is that as Sheriff he pursued online pornography charges against an out of state website years ago (and got a conviction) with monies furnished by Polk County taxes. Although not illegal, we expressed our irritation with him that using our money to police out of county charges like this was a frivolous use of taxpayer money.

12 OT but did anyone see the gum chewing girl last night seated behind Trump? She of the red MAGA hat and brilliant white teeth? I think I'm in love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13 I'm in Polk County. He's my local Sheriff.

Just a little demographics and info, Polk County is between Orlando and Tampa, has a population nearing 700,000, reliably votes red in Presidential elections despite having more registered D's than R's, and the County Seat is still dry on Sunday.

It's also slap ate up with meth AND illegals (lots of migrant workers here too, lots of seasonal agriculture).

It also boasts fairly large and fairly poor black communities, and in recent years a good bit of the Puerto Rico diaspora landed here. "Whites" make up less than 65% of the population (and dropping)

Finally, the Polk County Sheriff's Office is the 10th largest employer in the county, at 1500+ strong. And they're kept busy.

14 I really don't think the term came from English, unless they picked it up from the Arabs while vacationing in the ME during the Crusades.

15 Yeah, the word came from Old English, and it predates the Norman Conquest, which predates any expeditionary trips to the ME.

16 It is funny how sheriff's are the citizens elected law enforcer, very democratic. Should be popular with progs, but then they aren't too crazy about the citizens, are they?

17 Another good sheriff looking to protect his county. There are a lot of great sheriffs like this throughout the US and even here in New York. Florida is lucky to have him.
