Money is a driving force. I have no kids, but I remember when my two nieces started off in college. Within a year they had racked up a nice credit card bill on their "Hey your in college your entitled to free money" card you get at the start of the school year. They called my mom (their gramma) about the situation. Of course, even though gramma had damned near raised them up to high school, and she was living a half mile away, they did not see her all that often.
They came to her house, expecting to get a cash infusion from her, and instead of fistful of dollars, gramma handed them articles she had carefully cut out of Money magazine on how to get out of credit card debt.

Wife and I laugh about it every time we think of it.

Nope, this Tuesday is the actual election, Dem jagoff Ossoff vs Repuke Handel in a special election to fill an empty Repub seat. Most expensive House race ever, with over $40 million spent so far. btw, 95% of Ossoff's cash has come from out of state, a handy fact the next time the Dems whine about 'outside money' influencing an election.

GA allows early voting, and it has been massive for this race. The last poll showed the 2 neck and neck, so who knows, though of course I'm pulling for the R on general principles.

Yeah. The district went pretty heavily for Trump in 2016, so if the Dems can 'steal a seat' it'll be a moral victory for them or something.

With a total of 445k registered voters in the 6th, there have been 140k early voters already. And the last polls show the race to be within the margin of error, with Ossoff with a very slight lead.

I predict the Dems will claim victory no matter the actual results.

103 Good Morning, I need some advice from the horde. Sorry in advance for this possibly incoherent rant.

My 23 year old daughter who has turned liberal (sigh) is dating a very nice man who we like a lot, I think he tends to be liberal as well, but doesn't really talk about it. However, this young man's mother is a huge dem/lib, she stands for PP, loves her some PBS and of course Obama. My problem is, this woman keeps linking stupid ass liberal articles and tagging my daughter on them in FB, all Trump hate, things about Eric Trump regarding St. Jude's (which is a real pisser because my daughter does a lot to help raise money for St. Jude and is actively involved in chairing events in Baltimore.) She even tagged my daughter on a video of Michelle Obama, saying how much she (michelle o) reminded her of my daughter (SCREAMS AND THROWS SHIT ACROSS THE ROOM)
Anyway, it's really really pissing me off. I am not friends with this women on FB and I haven't met the parents yet, I know it's coming because the relationship is serious and looks like it could be going in the direction of marriage. I feel like if the roles were reversed and I started tagging her son in some of my pro-trump articles she would probably not appreciate it very much, I feel like she is out of line but I can't do a damn thing about it because I don't want to cause issues before we even meet the family. My daughter really loves this guy. I'm not sure what to do, because the crap she is sharing with my daughter is all BS. It's already hard enough that my once smart, critically thinking daughter has gone to the dark side, which has really strained our relationship, now I have to sit back and watch while she and this other woman enjoy and share their hate of Trump. I just don't know what to do, any advice would be welcomed, maybe some prayers too that I can keep my trap shut.

119 Live near so I've been following case where cop got found not guilty but fired anyway. I think this is correct. The system is way too quick to criminalize cop screw ups, but it IS possible for a cop to be revealed to be just not that good at his job. If a bus driver screws up and makes a few horrible decisions that end killing someone, we don't usually try to put the bus driver in jail, but I don't see anything wrong with saying "hey, maybe this line of work isn't for you." In this case, the prosecution made a pretty good case the cop could have handled the situation a lot better -- given clearer instructions and so on -- and a better cop would probably have done so, and a (probably) innocent CCL holder would be alive (and probably 5 Dallas cops too). Not handling a stressful situation well shouldn't be a crime, so I'm glad he was found not guilty, but I see no reason for him to continue to be a cop.

I had a somewhat similar problem. Oldest son, who is somewhat informed but apolitical and leans conservative, married a LIV whose mother is a flaming librul. She is a prolific FB poster, tagging everyone she thinks needs "educating."

Like you, I didn't want to make waves, but I was sick and tired of seeing her crap. So what I ended up doing was just posting an article of my own related to her post several hours or even a day after she posted something.

e.g.: She would post something about how Trump was violating the emoluments clause by profiting from foreigners who "paid" him to stay at one of his hotels. I would counter, hours later, by posting an article revealing the Clinton Foundation's overwhelming corruption with regard to Haiti.

Never tagged anyone, and never made any comments or "likes" either on her postings or my own. Just put it up there and made it "public"--not just "friends," to make sure everyone would see it.

Hasn't helped with the mom, but new daughter-in-law is rather surprisingly coming around and is definitely becoming more "educated." She has started asking me my opinion on things and frequently exclaims, "I did not know that!"

I think it's the District Attorney, who happens to be a democrat, who makes the call. As I said on ONT:

''Sure, because retrying a flimsy 13 year old 'he said/she said' case is the best use of millions of dollars of taxpayer dollars.''

The 'War On Women' must be fought at any cost to the taxpayers.
_______________________

Yeah, it's supposed to be the prosecutor who makes that call, but in this case the judge and the prosecutor were pretty much indistinguishable from one another, so it hardly matters.

This was (and is) a political witch hunt. Camille Cosby was right about that. Bill Cosby may be, and probably is, a sleazy old guy, but this prosecution was ridiculous.

We're supposed to have a justice system, not a "justice by proxy" system. This prosecutor went after Cosby on these silly charges, lodged by this dubious gold-digger woman, because of the dozens of other women who claim Cosby did the same to them, but who kept silent about it for 10 or 20 or 30 or 40 years or more.

They knew Andrea Constand's case was weak, and the former DA had promised Cosby and his lawyer that if Cosby testified in Constand's civil case, they would not prosecute him on her claims criminally. Then, after Cosby testified and paid to settle her civil case, the DA waits until the night before the statute of limitations runs to file criminal charges. Not because he thought there was a solid case against Cosby, but because all those other women -- the ones who had never bothered going to the police to file their own charges -- deserved "justice," and the DA wanted to be their hero and get his picture in the paper.

It's bullshit, and a blatant abuse of the justice system. You don't try somebody on dubious charges so you can get "justice" for somebody else who can't file charges because they didn't come forward with their allegations within a reasonable amount of time.

I do buy some items for Amazon that are hard to find locally. I tired to buy some grocery's for Amazon (with Prime) and soup, and other cans weigh a lot. Maybe when you load the bags from the local supermarket into the back of the car it isn't that bad. But put them all into boxes and the poor delivery guy has to carry them to your front door, I thought it was a waste of boxes and boxes. Now many grocery stores are starting to deliver from the local market to your front door. Home Depot offers free delivery on many items, and I'd rather buy from them! Or order it, and just go pick it up. Even Sears now has this with a separate pickup door, works well.

We're talking about a lib, spypeach! It's all they do. Just gotta bite your tongue, realizing that you will never be able to reach her.

First time we met our crazy new in-law was at a party we invited her to at our own home. After introductory pleasantries, first thing she asked was why we had a flag outside. Told her we flew the flag every day, and she found that amusing. Kept our mouths shut.

Later, after she had polished off a bottle of wine, she asked how we could allow our youngest son to join the military (he was overseas at the time--USAF.) Then she starts on war, particularly Viet Nam. Blurts out that all Viet Nam vets are drugged-up baby killers. I reminded her that Mr. IrishEi was a Nam vet, and she replied, astonishingly, "It is what it is."

I just stared at her, and my husband stood up and left the room (later explaining he didn't want to knock her teeth out in front of everyone.) I believe that was the moment my new daughter-in-law's eyes were opened.

Here's the best part, though. After my son drove her home, she decided to make a trip to the liquor store for more wine. Ended up with a nice Pino Grigio and a DUI! Karma, baby.

They would rant about trump in just about any place - office, restaurant, seminar, fundraiser, etc. I've come to say 'this is not an appropriate venue or occasion to be discussing politics; if you continue to persist, I will end this meeting/leave/make a formal complaint'. And honestly, I've had to leave only once, most of the time, they are shamed into behaving after a firm rebuke.

Business, commercial licenses and other permits cost him $20,000 per year in California, about $250 in TX. Insurance for his wife's car, his truck and his work truck cost him about half what his work truck alone cost in California. He used the equity from his home to buy 10 acres and build a new home in Texas.

He said he knew he was paying high taxes there, he just didn't realize all the "fees" really add up.
