Chill Palace Open Thread

Tough week, angry and scary. Let's keep this thread positive and just interesting. Just because the entire left and half the right and deranged by Trump, that doesn't mean the rest of us must succumb to their mass lunacy. There are still interesting and good things out there.

So I have two new hobbies, which I've merged. I've been taking baths with magnesium salts, because I'm always sore. But you're supposed to be in the bath for 20 minutes, which is much longer than you could imagine when you're just sitting in a tub.

Anyway, I recently got the great idea to combine the new bath thing with my obsession with the absolutely hilarious Mr. Sunday Movies podcasts (and videos). Listening to a 1 hour 20 minute podcast takes too much time. Taking a bath takes too much time.

However -- see if you can follow this -- if you put the podcast on while you're taking your boring ass epsom salt bath, then you're using the same time twice.

Ingenious, no?

I gotta give it to these guys: First, they've displaced Red Letter Media as the funniest listen on the internet. Me, personally? Sure the Nerd Crew is great, but, me personally, these two guys are just consistently funnier.

And not grouchy all the time.

The other thing I've learned is this: I'm not doing a podcast ever again. Having now heard what someone with talent for this sort of thing sounds like, I gotta say, I'm never gonna manage that, and never gonna bother trying.

By the way, if you watch their movie reviews, they used to employ a system (which makes sense, given the Internet's preference for hype and stridency) in which the only two possible ratings were Best Movie Ever and Worst Movie Ever. (Best Movie Ever actually just means "worth a watch," whereas Worst Movie Ever means "not worth a watch.")

But that's the only two ratings permitted: Best Movie Ever! or Worst Movie Evere!

A good entry point (besides the vids I've already linked) is this "Caravan of Garbage" retelling of the strangest Luke Cage story ever, in which--

-- stop reading if you don't want spoilers --

Luke Cage goes after Doctor Doom over an unpaid bill for $200.

Yeahp, that's right. And that's not exaggerated. That's the plot.

Another funny series of videos is where they play terrible video games. They're themselves pretty awful at these games, which they play without any prior practice, but the games themselves are really bad. And that's kind of funny.

I've previously mentioned their animated telling of the unfilmed Batman v. Superman script of 2002, which seems terrible. The animated retelling of the unfilmed Star Wars sequel "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" is also terrible, and funny.

And here's another terrible video game.

32 To be fair Ace, you did a great job with the Podcast. Great Podacats require a shitload of (research and other preparations). The more work you put in, the better it will be.

Speaking of Podcasts, I took the Monica Perez Pill. Entertaining a fuck, she is always prepared, super intelligent, great researcher, and thinks outside the box. She went to Stanford Law I believe. She deals in going after the propaganda. She is an AnCap. She believes, as I do, that people can't be trusted with power because they are all Psychopaths and/or Criminals.

She goes down rabbit holes and does not sound crazy doing it, very calm, reasoned, and logical.

109 Repost from Wednesday ONT.

Someone here once complained that they never had a good sausage gravy. Say that no more.

**Flounder's Sausage Gravy and Bisucuits (Thanks Mom)**

0. Get woman in kitchen. Make her do it.

- 1 lb. Jimmy Dean Premium Pork Sausage (Yes, it matters.) Regular or Hot. Kick yourself if you reach for that maple crap, because 'Merica.
- Flour to create the roux.
- Milk for the magic of gravy. Whole>2%. Skim? (Choke yourself; we're making gravy here.)
- Vegetable oil if desired
- Butter
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Pillsbury Grands! Southern Homestyle Southern Recipe Biscuits - Don't eff it up with cheap biscuits either. Biscuits go in the oven about when you begin the gravy.

No carrots, morons.

Gravy = a fat + a starch + a liquid, in the proper proportions.

The fat is the pork fat (mostly), flour is the starch, and milk is the liquid.

1. Brown sausage. No, grey is not brown. If you don't have to scrape yummy bits off the pan, you're doing it wrong. Dutch oven works best here. Non-stick is for dirty libs. Don't do it. I like to add a little bit of vegetable oil here to increase the gravy to meat ratio after the sausage is browned. Turn down heat to low. Do not drain the goodness. If there is still moisture from the meat in the oil, keep browning.

2. Sprinkle and mix in flour until the sausage coating changes from a shimmery, oily coating, until it is more of a matte finish. As a rough guide, you may use up to a cup of flour, depending on how much pork fat or vegetable oil added. The point is to have no standing oil, and no free flour. Continue over low heat as the roux cooks. Look it up. Maybe about five minutes here.

3. The magic of gravy. Increase heat to medium-medium-low. Slowly add in milk while stirring constantly to avoid scorching milk and to incorporate the roux particle into the liquid. Stop when you get to a runny milkshake consistency. Remember, proper proportions. Your fat and starch proportions are set, now. You can always add milk, recovering from too much milk here takes forever, and is a rookie move. As the mixture heats, it will begin to thicken. Too thick, add some milk. And by all means, don't walk away until the gravy is ready. You are witnessing magic happen. Savor it.

4. I add a little pad of butter here to give it that little extra creamy goodness. But don't go nuts.

5. Salt and pepper to taste. I like it with a kick, using the Hot sausage and plenty of fresh cracked pepper. But leave it with a little room for others to adjust, if you've got snowflakes to feed.

If you've timed it right, biscuits will be coming out of the oven, and you're ready to enjoy a little bit of Southern heaven on earth.

Feeds 1-2 real men. Probably 20-30 or so snowflakes and pajama boys, but who knows. It's like dividing by zero.

Licensed exclusively and freely to morons everywhere and in perpetuity. Democrats, snowflakes, pajama boys, and other assorted asshats may use for a fee of one picture of you punching yourself in the dick for each use.

And yes, I'll try to fit that all in the cook book form.

I always wonder if the narrator can be trusted when they say that had Mr. Crawford resisted temptation, Fanny really would have married him and they would have been happy. I don't know.

I'm still having fun with my Lairs, Inc. story (blog linked in nic - it's not up to date with Gab right now but will be later this weekend if I have to tie my kids to chairs to do it). It's about a company that builds lairs for supervillains. Mundane work of project management contrasted with the very silly world of supers. Also the company owner hired a millennial and he keeps wanting her to do things like get silver LEED certification for the volcano lair. Heh.

134 Right on, Ace.

The reason we feel so good at the beach isn't just because of vacation or the scenery. There's a theory that it's because ocean water has so many of the depleted elements we used to have in our body, namely magnesium, which contributes to a feeling of calm and well-being. The soles of the feet are like sponges, so those beach walks are great in and of themselves.

I've recently started taking Slow-Mag (timed-release magnesium chloride) to get that feeling in these gawd-awful times. I DO feel much calmer and my nagging back pain seems to have calmed down somewhat.

I remember now. Yeah Fox is not doing well with their piece of Marvel. So stupid they have it split like that. And sad because if you read comics in the late 1960's you know it was all about Fantastic Four and the spin offs. Dr. Strange was tops too because of Steranko's art capturing the psychedelic 60's so perfectly.

You are right I think we live in the same general NoVA area, but this restaurant is off US 360 in the Northern Neck. It's the Lottsburg Cafe about 200 yards off 360 on Walmsley Road. I notice Yelp only gives them 2.5 stars, but Yelp is for losers IMHO! I wouldn't be surprised if Jinx doesn't know where it is.

230 I read an article on the history of bathing in Newsweek back in 1999. This is what you do.

Start a bath with as hot water as you can tolerate. When it cools, drain some and add more HOT water.

So, after soaking and scrubbing the dead skin cells off, get out and take a shower to wash off all of the soap scum and dead skin cells.

Look in the mirror (if it isn't fogged). You will never be cleaner.

No lie my dad bought me a TV to put on the wall in my master bedroom because i have a GIANT TUB big enough for myself and a spouse. Even a big guy could be comfy in this tub. so what you do is you sit in your soaking tub and you watch a movie or a TV show or in my case, anime.

i have to admit i LOVE "One Punch Man" hes the moron superhero. no shit. its great. Also "The Devil is a Part-timer" never fails to make me laugh hysterically.

my new favorite thing to do is watch my pregnant mare in the barn on the baby cam. certain special friends with insomnia are going to get the code so they can watch her too and this way shes got eyes on her all the time. its kinda relaxing to just see the peaceful huge momma chew hay and go about her innocent business. unlike some of my other broodmares she truly is a sweet little innocent and nothing she does is stressful or anything other than sweet.

the news is indeed scary but i have my grass to water, garden to tend, and my mares to watch over. I read you all sitting in a canvas chair in the shed row feet up on the door in my mares stall with her head on my shoulder. Now i am gonna read the content.

325 Here is a recipe for the 'rons and states:

Pig Candy

1-2 lbs extra thick bacon

2 Cups dark brown sugar

2 T chili powder

Mix brown sugar and chili powder. Coat both sides of bacon slices. Arrange coated bacon on broiler pan and bake at 160 for about 2 hrs. You don't want the sugar to burn. Once the sugar melted and coated the bacon pull it out and let it cool on parchment paper or a silicon mat. Don't use waxed paper, it sticks. After it cools hide At least half of it for later. I usually make BLTs with it on Hawaiian sweet rolls with heirlooms and sprouts.

Add in intersectionality theory and the only possible method to come together is as 'victims', but we've seen what happens at a Progressive convention of 'victims' when they fight for being the most 'victimized class.'

This certainly explains how the Congressional 'us' quickly devolved into 'us' and 'them'.

I'm envisioning a sort of April the giraffe
thing happening here. I hope your mare doesn't go two or three months
overdue the way April did.

Ben Had is sure that the poor thing has twins. I have been worried about this from the start. so its likely she will go early. its a good thing she adores me because i am her new best friend and hanging around constantly. But shes a cuddler, so its all good.
she also likes classic rock, country and Bluegrass. ima gonna try her with swing on mare watch tonight.

420 Love the Talk Talk. One of my favorite bands from the 80s. And for people who think they only did synth drums, you really need to hear Laughing Stock. Their drummer was quite good.

My Life is probably their biggest. I think Life's What You Make It is better, https://youtu.be/qOgzJ8A2QLw

Or Desire https://youtu.be/Av8JLWiXDUI

The evolution of the band is interesting. They started out a sort of New Wave synth-pop band (but still not bland), but a they aged they got rawer, and mostly used acoustic instruments. And Holds was doing pretty experimental stuff by their last album.

Talk Talk is almost never out of my mix.

Diversity is not "our" strength, rather it is the strength of the ruling class, that crassly uses it to fracture a civil society that might establish some common goals if left alone. Fractured and splintered, the "masses" are easily exploited by the glib Establishment politicians, aided and abetted by their lying media accomplices.

424 So it looks like my wife's dad in Japan is going further into Alzheimer's. It appears one of his female neighbors has gotten ahold of his bank account information and is siphoning off all of his pension money every month as it gets deposited into his account, and his phone has gotten cut off due to non-payment.

We've gotten a government assistance agent involved, and he's got to go to court in Japan to get my wife a document to sign so they can put a stop to it.

Just a big mess.

429 So I went to high school and was kinda friends with Mark Waid who is a successful, and well-regarded comic book story author now. He was editor of the literary magazine and in the theater club that was my chosen milieu and I was in the little group of kids that went to see the Superman movie together after school which apparently set him on his way to his admirable career (brush with greatness; before he got an amazingly beautiful girlfriend I asked him to the SadieHawkins dance, but it got snowed out.) I ran into him years ago whena mutual friend got married, and he signed books for my kid. So I have a nostalgic affection for old Mark Waid. He broke my heart with this essay, https://tinyurl.com/yc2n5uf8 though. ( hot link in name tag) He insists his point is that Mo Green is a hypocritical waste of skin and that #huntedRepublicans make #huntedAnyone possible so have no room to complain, they are blocking other people from the protection of #backgound checks but Mo Green wants to know about this guys background. Since this makes no sense - Green's interest in the shooter's background is after the fact and likely related to the list in his pocket that he was on- and.. his point, frankly, is deflection from the left's indulgence and encouragement of violent shortcut to hopenchange, deflection by making Republicans the guilty ones, the one's truly complicit in shooting murders.

432 Ace. Have you tried magnesium chloride salt? The Mg is supposedly less strongly bonded to Cl than to sulfate, so...gets into you more easily. One way people avoid the bath boredom is believe it or not spraying a strong solution of it on the bottom of their feet before bed, then covering it with socks. (To save staining damage to sheets). It is meant to solve all kinds of problems. Not least of which sleep, and pain.

433 I miss your podcasts. They were much funnier than you give yourself credit for. If I had a spare $500, I'd pay you to do another one, with me as straight man and laugher. They were great.

435 I bought Splinter Of The Mind's Eye back when the book came out and absolutely loved it. To be fair, I was 12, but my imagination kicked in real good and I still have fond memories of that book.

436 Umm, watching some of the videos at Mr Sunday Movie, it seems they are only roughly funnier and cholera and nowhere near plinkett in either humor or analysis.
