Huh: Super-Pro-Trump Russians Also Tried to Hack Heritage Foundation, Dubbed "Trump's Think Tank," Shortly Before Election

It's almost as if Russians were trying to generally undermine democracy in America, as they've been doing for 70 years, sometimes with direct cooperation by Democratic Senators.

The same hackers believed to have been behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign chair John Podesta targeted employees at the conservative Heritage Foundation during the run-up to the 2016 election, The Daily Caller has learned.
The influential nonprofit worked closely with the Trump transition team both before and after the election, and was dubbed "Donald Trump’s think tank" by CNN. The Trump campaign relied on Heritage’s research for policy ideas, a fact that the nonprofit proudly promoted on its website.
Heritage alerted employees to the phishing attempts in an email just two weeks before the election, adding that the FBI had contacted Heritage about the phishing attempts.

I'm sure this will merit intense coverage from the usual suspects.

Timely reminder:

There is _absolutely no reliable evidence_ as to the identities of the hackers who got into the DNC. Not a scintilla.

And there's not going to _be_ any such reliable evidence, ever, because the current and foreseeable state of digital forensics is simply not good enough to arrive at such a solid determination.

It could have been 14-year-old script kiddies in Lagos, Nigeria.

It could have been Seth Rich working inside.

It could have been Russian state intelligence. Or their Chinese counterparts. Or, frankly, state intelligence from the Grand Duchy of Fenwick.

And it could have been _American_ state intelligence. Who we now know own tools specifically designed to counterfeit the intrusion footprints of other state intelligence agencies' digital spying.

Bear all this in mind when you hear comparisons being drawn.

I hadn't heard Heritage characterized that way before.

It does make a certain amount of sense, though, when you consider certain Trump behavior. His having set his heels against a bona-fide, full-bore repeal of Obamacare, and instead insisting upon a weak-sauce rejiggering of Obamacare that's been labeled a "repeal" though it isn't.

Because Heritage has a bunch of intellectual DNA in what eventually evolved into Obamacare. The whole concept of the individual mandate goes all the way back to Heritage position papers written in 1989, as part of the "kinder and gentler" Republican agenda being pushed by Poppy Bush.

I learned on a manual Mustang from the 70's (it wasn't anything grand- think it had the same engine as the pinto.) That car had manual steering, windows, the whole shebang. I wish I could have manual steering now- except when parallel parking. Oh and manual crank windows- how were these a bad thing?

That little voice has saved me on many occasions. I seem to have a sixth sense about when someone is about to do something stupid.

There was one time when I was waiting to pull out of a shopping center onto the main road. The light turned green, I started to pull out, but then saw a pickup truck barreling along with no intention of stopping.

I could have gunned it and gotten out in front of him OK, but I wasn't in a big hurry so I slammed on my brakes and watched him run the red light.

There was a woman in a car behind me and she started to pull out when I did, and rear-ended me when I stopped. We both got out and she was all apologetic. I said, "It wasn't your fault. Did you SEE that??!!??"

She hadn't seen it. I could have pulled out safely but she would have been T-boned for sure. I may have saved her life.
