Melty Little Snowflakes Outraged That YAF Pranked Them Into Rejecting Socialist Redistribution of Grade Point Average

I don't understand this premise -- doesn't everyone get A's in college now? Or a B, if you literally never come to class and fail the exam.

Well, I guess there's a difference between summa cum laude (4.50 GPA) and bottom of the class (3.82 GPA).

YAF wanted to test the snowflakes' dedication to the redistribution of earned rewards, and so asked snowflakes to sign a petition stating that the top 10% of the class would have some of its GPA "knocked off" so it could be redistributed to the bottom 10% of the class, For Fairness and Equality.

They mostly objected, the Dears.

But the funny part is that they're getting angry and demanding consequences for simply having their stupid principles poked around a bit.

Below, the triggering video what triggers.

1 Well, I think we can see that it is the bottom of the barrel getting into these colleges and spouting this nonsense. Why would any thinking person attend? The profs are no smarter or more educated than the students. The blind leading the blind into a ditch.

16 The truth of the matter is that distribution sounds great when you're (theoretically) the distributee. When you're the distributer, it sucks.

I can't tell you how many friends I've had who went from full on in favor of wealth distribution in college to a more, ahem, nuanced position when they started getting pay checks.

When you see a 1/4 to a 1/2 of your paycheck disappear every pay period, your perspective suddenly changes.

So who gives the valedictory speech at the high school yawner, er, graduation? Why, that is determined by a popularity contest. When presented with my ballot, along with a note explaining this wonderful tradition, I wrote "James Hetfield". The snowflakes have been under construction for a very long time.

62 It's seemingly easy to trick people with these kinds of questions these days, as this type of prank happens in various forms a lot. I'm of the opinion that critical thinking skills are in short supply, and so is the cynicism necessary to sniff out when someone is playing you.

Someone on the inside of the ivied walls would have to verify, but I suspect a true liberal arts education would not only expand on the knowledge base of what was learned previously, but teach students how to learn and think critically. Instead they go to classes that teach them what to think. Success is defined by parroting, internalizing, and advocating for whatever gibberish is on the menu du jour.

The worst part is that they don't see it as hypocrisy. They truly believe that identical situations can, and should, be handled differently from one day to the next.

Could you imagine being a five year old of one of these six year olds? No wonder so many kids are f*cked. They're not being taught that there are definites. I'll bend or chip around the edges on certain situations, but I'll try to explain the "why" behind it*. I very much know that what my kids see me do one day they need to see repeated the next.

* The latest was giving money to a bum. I usually discourage it, but I asked him why he was begging and he told me he needed a drink. He was honest with me, and I gave him the money for the wine. Because he was honest, and I push honesty harder than anything.

68 The utter stupidity of these people who are somehow considered college material astounds me. I guess colleges expanded when there were so many kids growing up but the baby boom is over and they have all these seats to fill, so lower expectations.

Like the video of Evergreen college - the second one. At about 3:50 a girl is reading a complaint of some sort and cannot sound out and read "pigeon-holed", "trans-disabled", or "allegations". She read at a haltingly 4th grade level, yet is somehow enrolled at a college. (Pass given if it was perhaps written in cursive by someone else. Back in 2015, they suspended a fraternity charter for hanging a joke banner at the start of the year that read "Freshman Daughter Drop-Off".

Now, she considers herself edgy and likes to curse during lectures and has students make snarky, political memes as a project. Back in 2015, when the events unfolded, I warned her that the PC stuff and triggering could, eventually, rear its ugly head at her should a student deem her edgy style to be offensive. She blew me off (not in a good way) and lambasted me for being a "Conservative asshole"

She proceeded to unfriend me on social media and even blocked my cell phone (which she proudly announced in her farewell text). Fast forward two years and I receive a text out of the blue. It turns out one of her students decided that her edginess was creating an unsafe educational environment. As a result, her contract was not renewed. She managed to begrudgingly text "I guess you were right." I didn't gloat, but instead helped her find a job bartending until she landed another gig at a community college.

When I see madness at places like Evergreen State, it's hard for me not to think that the administrators and faculty are getting exactly what they deserve. You can train a pit bull to attack intruders, but eventually it will wind up attacking a friend, family member or even you.

84 People with this mindset "understand" what's wrong with it, they just don't care.

If it benefits them, they want to to steal it. Simple as that.

Same with the whole "hate speech" hypocrisy. As long as they get to decide what the rules are, they have no shame deciding when speech can be free.

93 Here's how far we've come from when I was in school.

My senior year, I was in a class where 33% of our grade was going to be based on a research term paper. It was a large class where the professor gave a lecture once a week and then we met twice a week with TAs, grad students, who led smaller subsets. The net of this was that the professor, who was quite good and renowned in his field, didn't really know any of us personally.

The kicker was that we were assigned lab partners from amongst our smaller groups. We didn't get to choose them, they were assigned. Well my lab partners were 3 meatheads from the hockey team. Great hockey players, not great students.

So I made a deal, I would do the research and write the paper, their end of the deal was simply to get it typed. What could go wrong? Well I'll tell you what could go wrong.

They thought it would be a great exercise in free enterprise to sell the paper to other groups from other break out sessions. I mean, it's not like these grad students ever met to discuss things.

Long story short, they did meet to discuss things and I got an F because they realized there was widespread cheating. Naturally, I went to the professor to plead my case. He gave me two choices, tell him who I was and who my lab partners were or accept the grade.

Well there was no way I was going to turn these guys in, mama didn't raise any idiots, so I had to suck it up and take the F. So in effect I got a reverse GPA redistribution and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it. No crayons. No coloring books. No safe spaces.

I still prefer that world.

Somehow, I survived.

127 Shit, I made a lot of money doing other people's term papers my last couple years of school. Highlights to follow:

The year after I took it, I did FOUR final papers for the mandatory ROTC military history class. These for a professor, retired brigadier general, that I had had for several other classes, including one the semester these other guys were taking him for 320.

It was goddamned hard to make four different people sound like them and not sound like me, while still producing twenty pages of quality battle analysis according to the principles of war per FM 100-5.

Two hundred bucks a whack, though. That was good money in 199x.

A year later, my next door neighbor who was very hot, very smart, and unfortunately lazy as shit since she was already rich (which was good because she never blinked at what I charged her for a paper) came to me. She needed a four person group project for a 400 level business school marketing class, and needed it in 48 hours. It was something like forty percent of their final grade. I had them over a barrel and they knew it.

Five hundred bucks each. Cash. No checks. Get your equally hot friend the fuck out of my room because she's making googly eyes at me like she can fuck me to get out of paying the five bills. She can't.

This was the very early days of the Internet, and I massively plagiarized portions of FedEx's annual shareholder conference reports for three years running. They got As, I made two grand in cash, her hot friend tried to fuck me for a rebate, got mad when I told her no, and I was convinced from that moment on that every business school degree on planet Earth was fucking bullshit.

I've never heard that before. My SIL works in HR recruiting (headhunting), and she and I have talked about this a few times -- according to her, no employers ask about GPA's from her candidates and if the candidates take up too much room on their resumes with GPA's and Honor List and other school-related stuff, employers assume they are trying to cover up for having a thin resume with no work experience or anything to indicate that you know how to do anything other than get "B's" (or even "A's") in college... a skill which does not translate well to the workplace.

...So, I don't know. Might differ on geography, industry, and company -- but in my experience, having never listed nor mentioned my GPA to any company, it's never slowed me down

Undergrad GPAs matter in applying to grad schools and professional schools - law school, med school, etc. There are still the standardized tests (MCAT, LSAT, GRE, ... thank G-d) but the grades are certainly looked at pretty seriously.

Unless, of course, you have bean-counting advantages that outweigh any silly considerations of intelligence, competence or ability.

The terrorists are very good at making Western governments react to what they do.

Terrorists: 9/11

Terrorists: The shoe bomber
Response: Now passengers are made to take their shoes off as well.

Terrorists: Manchester
Response: No doubt there will be heightened security at concerts in England, and probably elsewhere.

And so forth.

Meanwhile the terrorists will find an entirely different target to attack, once again taking the authorities by surprise.

I very well could be wrong, I'm just going by what I heard when I was finishing undergrad. The "conventional wisdom" was that it's a good idea to list GPA over 3 and as you add experience you start leaving the GPA off unless it was very impressive. A couple years out it would be gone from your resume except for maybe a mention of honors because, as you say, focusing too much on school could be to your detriment.

180 #139 inalienable right

But we don't have an inalienable right to our earned rewards. The income tax, Kelo, etc, show that those rights are very alienable.

My point is similar to Heinlein's bread and circuses point, and more simply when asking whether it's okay to rob Peter to pay Paul, you can nearly always count on Paul's support. Especially nowadays. Imagine the class warfare case studies breaking out all over campus between the high-GPA and low-GPA classes. It would be a thing of beauty.

186 I've never heard that before.

Posted by: Harry Paratestes at May 30, 2017 07:34 PM (wmaTe)

My favorite was learning that the local colleges have a mandatory volunteer community service requirement.

Re-read it. Mandatory volunteer requirement. Yep. Hey kids, that stuff that we make meth addicts and drunks do as punishment? Yeah, you're going to do it, too, and you're going to pay for the privilege.

It irritates me to think of some kid without much money who couldn't pay for all of the extracurricular stuff Buffy and Todd could call Daddums to send a check for, but who was willing to go out and slop soup to homeless people on the weekends in order to make his resume or application look better for the next level.

HR killed it because they didn't understand it.

So not long after my wife and I were married, we visited friends at their sketchy apartment. Stayed on the fold out bed in the living room.

There was a fight outside the living room window that night, which woke my wife up. I put my arm around her, so she figured I was being comforting, what with the yelling right outside the window.

Thing is I was sound asleep, and in my sleep I was fighting someone, and thrashing them soundly.

Anyway in my sleep, I apparently began choking her with that one arm, with sort of a headlock around her neck. All those thoughts went through her head--I just married this guy, I guess I didn't really know him after all, now he's going to kill me.

I woke up quickly and stopped, and we managed to clear the situation up fairly quickly, but all day she was still feeling freaked out.

Hasn't happened since but it was weird to have that happen at all.
