American Exceptionalism Writ Small In Microcosm: Wilburn Ross...RIP

Wilburn Ross Is A Man You Should Remember

"He opened murderous fire on the oncoming enemy." The young lieutenant who wrote the Medal of Honor citation for Wilburn Ross certainly had a flair for words. But then again, it couldn't have been an easy task to find words that could give justice to the events he witnessed on October 30th, 1944 near St. Jacques, France.

I guess civilian life was boring, because he reenlisted and went to Korea, where he was badly wounded. He stayed in the Army until his retirement in 1964.
On May 9th, 2017, Medal of Honor recipient Wilburn K. Ross passed away at the age of 94. According to the Medal of Honor Society, there are now only 73 living recipients of the nations highest military accolade left.

That's more than a platoon! Hell, these guys are probably enough to conquer Europe.

I am thankful that my parents did not live long enough to see the destruction and devastation that has occurred in this country.

That is good.
From CNN:
According to one source with knowledge, Comey's relationship with Trump was uncomfortable from the start. The director had some hope that, over time, he could effectively point out the appropriate procedures and guidelines to both Trump and the White House staff about how the process of communications normally works. It didn't turn out that way.

This schooling comes from the guy that gave the unprecedented 'no intent' press conference. As if that was the 'normal process of communication'.

Comey is like the guy you have to fire, but know he's gonna be a thorn in the side afterwards. I wonder if he's collecting unemployment compensation checks from George Soros yet?

9 He's Full Citation:

For The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Wilburn Kirby Ross, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at risk of life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 30th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division, in action near St. Jacques, France. At 11:30 a.m. on 30 October 1944, after his company had lost 55 out of 88 men in an attack on an entrenched, full-strength German company of elite mountain troops, Private Ross placed his light machinegun ten yards in advance of the foremost supporting riflemen in order to absorb the initial impact of an enemy counterattack. With machinegun and small-arms fire striking the earth near him, he fired with deadly effect on the assaulting force and repelled it. Despite the hail of automatic fire and the explosion of rifle grenades within a stones throw of his position, he continued to man his machine gun alone, holding off six more German attacks. When the eighth assault was launched, most of his supporting riflemen were out of ammunition. They took positions in echelon behind Private Ross and crawled up, during the attack, to extract a few rounds of ammunition from his machinegun ammunition belt. Private Ross fought on virtually without assistance and, despite the fact that enemy grenadiers crawled to within four yards of his position in an effort to kill him with hand grenades, he again directed accurate and deadly fire on the hostile force and hurled it back. After expending his last rounds, Private Ross was advised to withdraw to the company command post, together with eight surviving riflemen, but, as more ammunition was expected, he declined to do so. The Germans launched their last all-out attack, converging their fire on Private Ross in a desperate attempt to destroy the machinegun which stood between them and a decisive breakthrough. As his supporting riflemen fixed bayonets for a last-ditch stand, fresh ammunition arrived and was brought to Private Ross just as the advance assault elements were about to swarm over his position. He opened murderous fire on the oncoming enemy; killed 40 and wounded ten of the attacking force; broke the assault single-handedly, and forced the Germans to withdraw. Having killed or wounded at least 58 Germans in more than five hours of continuous combat and saved the remnants of his company from destruction, Private Ross remained at his post that night and the following day for a total of 36 hours. His actions throughout this engagement were an inspiration to his comrades and maintained the high traditions of the military service.

11 Heh. Reminds me of this story: My dad came back from WWII and was sent to Texas to train on a new tank. Met a girl who would be my Mom later. Grandpa didn't know about this young Italian soldier hanging around so he went to Camp Bowie, found his commanding officer and asked, "What can you tell me about this kid, is he suitable? The officer answered, "All I can tell you is that if I'd had a thousand like him the war would have been over a lot sooner."

As told by grandpa.

22 Ross drives his car and goes out and about. He admits hes a bit of a lead-foot.

The state police are good to me, says Ross, who has been pulled over recently. One said, You were speeding. I said, Yeah, I was a little bit over the mark. Ross gave the officer a copy of some Medal of Honor literature that he always has handy. He didnt receive a ticket.

He has a special Medal of Honor license plate, so sometimes he gets pulled over just so the officer can shake his hand.

Ross stays active, going to the local watering hole each week, where the band eagerly takes his requests. After all, when a Medal of Honor recipient requests a song, you play it. Ross always leaves a five-dollar tip anyway.

This is interesting:

a petition on Change.org accused her of sharing racist posts on Facebook, like one from March 11 that said, "If you take 'one drop' of any person of color's blood and combined that with the blood of a non person of color, you'll always be able to tell. Which illustrates our superior genetics."

That same day, Cooks, who made headlines last year by being the first transgender woman of color to become a delegate at the Democratic National Convention, also shared a video by Atlanta Black Star touting the superiority of black genetics.

He seems to be saying if you mix A and B and one of A's qualities predominates, then A is superior/more desirable.

Ok, let's take the following case: if you mix sewage with distilled water, you will be able to tell. Does that mean sewage is superior/more desirable?

38 Intersectionality was intended as a way for liberals to compound their grievances, and gain more power. Instead, by narcissistically focusing on their own set of grievance groups to which they belong - it's leading to infighting and weakening their stupid organizations. What did those people expect? 41 "I think we need a special counsel, and I don't think the president should tweet. When I ran for office, I said he is a chaos candidate and would be a chaos president. Unfortunately, so far chaos organizes the presidency right now."--Gov. Jeb Bush in Las Vegas

Governor,

I thought you were bigger than that. Is that all you've got? "I told you so!"?

Not a word for the actual chaos of the Big Riot- Left?

Or the scorched-earth chaos of the Purely Obstructionist Democrats?

Or the chaos of a Big Lie-Media conducting their Psychological Black Ops and Agit/Propaganda Campaign on the American people? Only Trump's "chaos"?

There are all kinds of chaos, Governor. The kind felt by Kate Steinle, gasping for air after being shot by a federal firearm stolen by a federal criminal who the federal--and Californian--governments refused to stop. The kind felt by Rust Belt communities as their American Dream shrinks due to bad trade policies and regulations for regulation's sake. The chaos of public universities run as private re-education camps, taken over by fascist "anti-fascists" without any pushback. There's the chaos of the office Christmas party in San Bernardino caused by eagerly rubber-stamping visas for mail-order terrorist brides.

A lot of this chaos was the inevitable result of installing an anti-American double-agent in the Oval Office for the last eight years. And the complacency of the Uni-Party. We need some real chaos for a change. That's the whole point. Feature, Not Bug.

Mark Steyn: "As Charles Krauthammer likes to say, Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes discovered an under-served niche market: 50 per cent of the American people." In the same way the Mainstream Media created the need for Fox by stubbornly refusing to play it straight, the Uni-Party created Trump by under-serving half the American people. At least half.

Similarly, the Democrats have created a nominally-Republican majority of office-holders by choosing service to their bug-eyed ideology over service to the American middle-class. But holding office and serving in office are two different things.

I'm not talking about blind loyalty. But it seems like you're trying out for John McCain's role as the Propaganda Press' Favorite Republican Backstabber. Stop it. You're contributing to their Blob-Approved Manufactured Chaos(tm). You too, Commander McCain.

By the way, I think the Great Communicator would surely be on Twitter today. Again, the need to go over the heads of the Swamp Things was created by the Professional Liars we now have in place of a Free Press.

Conservatives love their Churchill quotes. This one applies: "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last." And the follow-up is Reagan's: "Don't be deceived because you are not hearing the sound of gunfire, because even so you are fighting for your lives."

The sound of those back-slaps are just the report of a different weapon.

I supported every Republican ticket since Bob Dole and Jack Kemp. If you had won, I'd be supporting you the best I could, despite many differences. Why? Because the stakes are never been any higher. We're in a knife fight for our freedoms--or what's left of them. Are you really so insulated you don't know that?

If you don't think this country desperately needs President Trump to succeed, you're not paying attention anymore, Governor. He needs our help and support, not cheap shots from the cheap seats. You owe him that because you owe it to our country.

Hell, you owe it to me.

And, believe it or not, I owe it to you, too.

I was assigned the M-60, and in normal firing (always going for the 3 round burst), a barrel would typically last only a few minutes until it was white hot and need to be switched out. They are easy/fast to swap out, but that's on a range w/o a couple hundred angry Huns shooting back.

If there was no 'Russian hacking' of the election, what collusion could there be on Trump's part?

144 85 OT: Hacker Kim Dotcom has evidence and will testify that Seth Rich was the DC leaker. Kim Dotcom was involved.

NOT the Russians.

Hannity is on it, and Kim Dotcom is getting with his lawyers and will make a statement on Tuesday.

Every time I see Kim Dotcom I think it's Kim Comando, the radio computer guru. I have no idea why.

145 That's more than a platoon! Hell, these guys are probably enough to conquer Europe.

They should start with a continent that has better wheelchair access.

146 Are we sure it's not Kim Dotorg, or Kim Dotnet?

Hell, these guys are probably enough to conquer Europe.

Why would anyone bother with Europe?

149 Remember snowflake. The next time that you disparage an old man with a vets hat on. Keep in mind that he probably reached a level of badass that you cannot even dream of.

150 37 I know what CBD meant, but there is nothing writ small about MoH winners, like Wilburn Ross.

Brave men like that have countless times stood in the breech and saved the life of the Republic on the battlefield. Sometimes they lived and were remembered. Sometimes they died alone and were forgotten, a long way from home.

It's up to us in peacetime to not let down their legacy, and persevere. They're counting on us.

151 139 I recall Hillary talking about Rich one time and invoking gun control. Oddly, she mentioned weapons of war, aka, assault rifle? Yet I never heard anyone name the gun. Hmmm...

152 Dear Donald,

Barbara and I are so sorry we can't be there for our Inauguration on January 20th. My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it will likely put me six feet under. Same for Barbara. So I guess we're stuck in Texas. But we will be with you and the country in spirit. I want you to know that I wish you the very best as you begin this incredible journey of leading out great country. If I can ever be of help, please let me know.

ps; I'll spank Jebbie like I did when he was little if he keeps this crap up. Have a nice day!
