Former FBI Director Robert Mueller Appointed Special Counsel To Oversee Investigation Into Russian Interference and Alleged Trump "Collusion"

Wonderful.

Special counsels never shut down.

Unless the special counsel were hypotheticlally named James Comey, investigating the Clintons.

He was appointed by Rod Rosenstein, who is making the call, because the media/Democrat campaign forced AG Sessions into recusing himself from all aspects of this case.

Quote from Rosenstein: "In my capacity as acting attorney general [at least in this matter, where Sessions has recused himself], I determined that this is in the public interest for me to exercise my authority to appoint a special counsel to assume responsibility for this matter. My decision is not a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted."

They've engineered this coup well.

Posted by: Nevergiveup at May 17, 2017 06:14 PM (SjImc)

75 The basis of the Flynn allegations is that he had a conversation with the Russian Ambassador and then didn't fully report it to the Vice President who was then embarrassed when he stated something which supposedly wasn't exactly true about Flynn's conversation. So Flynn was fired.

But how do we know what was said in that conversation? We "know" because an unmasked transcript was given to, or in the hands of, Sally Yates who (gleefully) rushed it to the WH as evidence of Flynn's perfidy.

Sally Yates is the provenance of this transcript. Would she doctor it to remove someone who was going to be a problem for the Left in days to come? Is there any piece of evidence that the Left in the agencies wouldn't alter for their own benefit? Is there any that they couldn't alter and leave no trace of their having done so?

Rathergate was a crude forgery done to destroy a presidential candidate and it almost worked. How much better can the pros do?

I hope, pray, that the President has recorded every meeting, every phone call that he and his closest advisers have made. The people doing this, their entire network, inside and outside the government needs to be taken down. And have the evidence publicly shown so all can look at it and see just how deep the rabbit hole of lies and disinformation goes.

If Mueller could/would do that great. But likely not. Maybe he can have Jamie Gorelick assist, she's so great in these investigations.

5. Thus they will bow like craven dogs to the Dems every single time

103 I say good. Let them investigate this all year long. The FBI has been at it for 11 months now with zero evidence so there is nothing to be found. Trump just threw a big chew bone to the dems and deflated their constant whining for a Special Prosecutor.

____________

My problem with it is if you want to find something you will, and then you get into situations like Scooter Libby where the investigation itself became where the crime was committed.

Trump basically got in trouble because he said "enough of this shit, move on" even though the actual investigation had produced jack shit, this is where they are trying to nail him.

I'm almost of the opinion he should just pardon Flynn formally and give everyone a civics lesson about how the President is empowered to make decisions like that

105 "the optics stink"

Do they? I think it's a pretty effective way of co-opting the issue from the Congressional Democrats. And with Sessions previous recusal the Dems have no reason to object.

Remember as we discuss this that Trump obviously knows there was no Russian collusion, and that no real evidence could exist. Made up innuendo and unsubstantiated allegations will exist whether or not there's an investigation. But the investigation can suck out the oxygen from the issue.

Same here.

Mueller starts with the "finding" that the Russians were behind the DNC/Podesta leaks that were Wikileaked. That and allegations that the Russians systematically created Fake News.

But beyond that, there is No There There that anyone in the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians on this. Assuming the Russians are "guilty" there's was no need or reason for the Russians to collude. I'm not even convinced that they wanted or expected Trump to win.

132 Well, now this bs is going to dominate the news for the next N years.

Assuming Trump is reelected, This is going to keep CNN, MSNBC, etc, etc, (Oh, and that weird chick, Lois Mentsch), busy for a long, long time.

On the bright side, I got the flywheel off my mower! Yes! Y'all gonna hate me for this, but this is how I accomplished it:

1. I used a solvent to clean all grease, and penetrating oil from the work area.

2. I poured copious amounts of boiling water over the work area.

3. I let it sit in the sun for a while, then dried the work area.

4. I then soaked it liberally with WD-40, believing that water between shaft and flywheel would be displaced by the lubricant.

5. I drank a few beers, or so.

6. Smacked it twice with a rubber mallet, and it popped right off.

7. Drank a few more beers, (in celebration).

The flywheel puller was on it, and under considerable tension throughout.

I reassembled the engine, with new shear pin, gapped the armature, gapped the valves, tweaked the carb, and it's running like it's new. I've still got one electrical fault to clear, but I'll be mowing tomorrow.

177 My eyes searched the large, crowded lobby until I saw him. He was standing near the cameras speaking to a throng of reporters, his surprisingly agile body quickly turning this way and that, seemingly with eyes in the back of his head as he employed practiced footwork that would be the envy of any NBA power forward. The other politicians blocked out from the line of sight of the cameras grew increasingly frustrated.

Chuck Schumer. He is the future, I thought to myself.

I turned my head and looked at the man next to me. Good old Preet. Confident and calm, his expression of placid, assured enlightment calling to mind some ancient carving of the Hindu god Vishnu. And well he should be, as we both knew everything was well in hand.

"Six ways from Sunday" he had said? If anything, Schumer had understated the situation.

"The appointment of a Special Counsel, while a belated acknowledgement from the Trump administration that serious wrongdoing has occurred, is not an end but a beginning," Schumer was saying. "To begin to lift the cloud of taint that has enveloped his administration, we expect to see a new FBI Director that all of us, Democrats and Republicans, can have confidence in."

As I stood there, the faces of recent years flooded into my consciousness.

The unflappable Jim Clapper, beavering away for years in the bowels of the intelligence community, laying the foundation of the deep state. They can vote for whomever they like, but never again will the deplorable trash of flyover country take the controls of our government like some drunken, belligerent passenger barging into the cockpit of an airliner.

The ever-planning John Brennan, as-salamu alaykum, unwilling to be bound by the conventions of an Islamophobic American society. Though he had many enemies, he was always a step ahead of them.

Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, protectors of our public servants, like a pair of winged lions at the entrance to a Babylonian throne room.

Hillary, accompanied in my memory as always by her ever-present aide Huma, demanding that we move beyond the outdated architecture of a society that appeared too often to hinder rather than encourage progress. Would I fall on my sword for her? As many times as needed.

And Susan Rice, like some cartoon superhero with her super power being the willingness to say anything we needed her to say, always knowing she would receive her reward.

We will prevail. Because we have to.

I'm waiting for the Dems to start complaining the Robert Mueller was Bush's appointee to the FBI and therefore, he is too political.

Mueller is a special counsel, not a special prosecutor. He is there to oversee this investigation, not to charge people with crimes.

When he finally comes out and says that there are no evidence of any Russian collusion, payments, promises, etc. in exchange for hacking the DNC, then the Republicans will feel all better about saying there was no collusion.

The Democrats will not accept it.

Here is my question.
Why is the FBI, which is supposed to be investigating domestic matters, conducting a counter intelligence investigation into a foreign agent?

Why isn't there a special counsel to the CIA?

215 I don't care if people think Trump is a idiot and loser, the point is if this is successful then it will open a Pandora's Box from which there is no return. I hope the Never Trumpers who are celebrating this understand what it means.

It means the bureaucracy in Washington gets to decide who is president. Does anyone think they will stop there? It will make the leftist bolder and far more aggressive then they have been, because weakness always encourages the aggressor. It will reward the most crooked politicians in Washington at the expense of the most honest. How can you be honest with deep state getting to decide who stays and who goes?

It will also create a new pro-American populist movement that will be part political party, part armed militia. That is not a joke, in fact that is how our country was founded in the first place. When people feel they have been screwed, and have lost faith in the rule of law and the political institutions...what do they do?

I felt this was destined to happen once the left went unhinged long before Trump. He is simply the Carney in the coal mine...

A deep state win, is a massive defeat for a Republican form of government. Heck It is not even a win for a pure Democracy. It is a win for Oligarchy.

Lawyers politically-connected to the Democrats and the GOPe will be appointed to staff the office (bipartisan!).

There will be extensive use of the grand jury, a complete investigation of Trump and everything and anyone ever connected to him, with the power to grant immunity to small fish and seize evidence with subpoenas.

Will they ever get around to actually taking possession of and forensically examining the DNC server that was purportedly hacked by the Russians? Probably won't have the time or resources to fit that in, given all the other many things the office of special counsel will be investigating.

268 Not a bad move. Mueller doesn't appear to be a grand stander or self interested. If so, he will professionally move the investigation along to a wrap (assuming there is no "there" there) and publicly report as much. In which case the public will be well served.

294 This is a big win for the Uniparty.

The DOJ is the center of power in our country, because our government is so corrupt.

With Sessions in power as the AG and Comey out at the FBI, as Sessions and the new FBI director slowly take control over their institutions over the coming months and years, the Ruling Class loses access to investigatory and prosecutorial power to protect its members and persecute its enemies.

But the Special Counsel's office gives them back both investigatory and prosecutorial power, at least for anything related to Trump and Russia or anything the Special Counsel's office thinks it can spin as being related to that.

Obama, Holder and Lynch all understood that perfectly and there is no way in a million years they ever would have appointed a special counsel.

They had zero to do with that, absolutely nothing. People who supposedly used Russian-style hacking techniques broke into Hillary Clinton's servers, but we have no idea what they got because none of that has ever been leaked.

Podesta's emails were handed to Wikileaks by 2 or more (they mentioned at least 2) disgruntled DNC staffers, probably one of whom was Seth Rich. Not Russians.

Two separate cases. I know the media has gone overtime to confuse the two and yell squirrel so nobody talks about the horrendous content of the Democratic Party's behavior in those emails but its not one case.

based on what? Wikileaks all but said so, then put a $25k reward on finding his killer. Why on earth would they do that for some random dude? The FBI and the police both have said he was. What's your secret info here?

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at May 17, 2017 07:10 PM (39g3+)

346 For those who are hopeful the Special Counsel will get to the bottom of the Seth Rich matter, remember this:

The FBI already knows what happened in the Seth Rich matter, has been sitting on it, and told the DC police to stand down and shut up, according to Rod Wheeler.

Because this is a counter-intelligence matter, there is only a small group of FBI agents who can work on this Special Counsel investigation - the FBI Counter-Intelligence Division, the same people who handled the investigation of Hillary's server, who took Weiner's laptop away from the NYPD, and who took the Seth Rich matter away from the DC police, according to Rod Wheeler.

This Special Counsel investigation will be a fishing expedition against Trump, and a protective blanket for deep state malfeasance and corruption.

Correct. They'll find something. Its impossible to constantly and perfectly obey every single law, cops count on it. They use it to bust guys they know are bad actors but can't get them for the crimes they know of. So they follow a guy: drift over the center line and its "out of the car, buster."

The DOJ has always had the ability to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate matters that they felt had a conflict of interest. You are thinking of something similar, the Office of the Independent Counsel. That redheaded stepchild of the Democrats was an unconstitutional effort to have a federal prosecutor outside of the DOJ that reported to Congress. The law was allowed to expire after everyone in DC saw what a failure it was.

As I've posted before, she would be tried in either DC or NY, and there is zero chance in either place of getting a jury that does not include at least one die-hard Democrat who would never, evr vote to convict her, no matter how damning the evidence. She could rob a bank, wave and smile at the TV cameras, and still not be convicted. Under those circumstances, she is effectively unprosecutable. The best we can ever hope for is that she is named as an unindicted co-conspirator and that Huma, Cheryl Mills, etc. all get convicted.

I watched Mexican citizens die and border agents be shot due to the U.S. government delivering arms to Mexican gangs in 'Fast and Furious'... and yet, nothing happened.

I watched a sitting President spy on congress in order for the U.S. to obtain a 'deal' where we give billions of dollars of taxpayer money to the largest state-sponsor of terror in the world...and yet, nothing happened.

I watched a sitting President use taxpayer money to interfere with a foreign (Israel) election...and yet, nothing happened.

I watched a U.S. ambassador and U.S. citizens be murdered in Benghazi and the state response to it's citizens was a blatant lie about a Youtube video...and yet, nothing happened.

And yet...NOW there is a Special Counsel???? It has been a constant stream of Democrat hysteria without a single piece of collusion being found despite every rock under the sun being overturned. The Constitution was shredded the last eight years and the GOP did...nothing.

It was a no-brainer for Rosenstein to hand this tar baby off to a special counsel. He is a Justice Department lifer, certainly no Trump partisan, and has his own career to think of and not be embroiled in a no-win situation.

564 "411 Trump doesn't realize he's in a Kafka novel. That may enable him to get through this."

Trump has survived for some reason, and that's the best explanation offered thus far. Cooling down some, I have to acknowledge the Deep State strategy here was to neuter Trump and they think Mission Accomplished. Somehow I doubt it.

567 (The last elections have had little practical benefit to conservatives in both politics and policy, and they probably won't.)

Huh? Are you young?

Neil MF'n Gorsuch! Ginsburg and Kennedy will be replaced by Trump.

The victory was complete and bigly significant. Rejoice...this is all gravy.

568 Forget the details of this "investigation." What is the motivation behind it? To destroy Trump. And why? Because Trump challenged the status quo/establishment/deep state/media/left/Democrats/neoconservatives.

The American people voted for a peaceful revolution in 2016. The powers that be are doing everything in their power to reverse that revolution.

JFK: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable."

569 Where there's smoke there's fire. Fortunately there isn't even a whiff of smoke. Better appoint a Special Counsel.

I think this works out well for Trump. I expect Mueller to do more damage to the Dems on this one due to the unmasking which I don't think he will ignore.

He'll also come to the conclusion on reviewing the non existent evidence that the Collusion is a nothingburger or even before that conclude there's no crime in the situation even if they did conclude. There's nothing to study here. Same for the Trump obstruction of justice.

570 Most detectives will tell you the easiest crimes to solve are the ones committed by someone who always thinks they are the smartest person in the room. The Left always think they are the smartest person in the room. This push to get Trump is them trying to pull off the perfect crime.

571 My previous comment was made after I'd just come in from mowing the lawn, so the brain wasn't working quite right. The leftie - Stephen Cohen - was shown on a clip I got from Klavan, but which came from Tucker's show last night:

572 Past is prologue.

In 2000 the left set themselves on fire claiming Bush stole the election. Then they blamed 9/11 on him. The moan finally died out after 2004 election.

Vote or die!, yo..

574 Can anyone on this forum tell me when in their lifetimes a Democrat has ever been held accountable?
Rangle ... sailed through. And various other crooks.
Wait, there was the Breck Guy Edwards.
Please I need a list to provide a little kindling for hope.

576 The only privilege that professors and BLM'ers should rail about is Clinton privilege. They have always done whatever they pleased and everyone has looked the other way or aided them.
They will never be held to account in their lifetimes.
It's so depressing.

577 (but then they successfully destroyed him in his second term, retook both houses of the congress, and his approval numbers were in the 20s at one point i think)

In the big picture.. it's all about the SCOTUS.

The left was setting up to flip that court and enact Hillary's sickest fantasies.

Hillary Clinton will never be president. Appreciate on that fact...it's what all this mess is about.

578 The Dems have no power.

Posted by: trax at May 17, 2017 08:16 PM

They have as much power as the Trump-hating GOPe gives them. And they're willing to give them plenty. Also, don't think that their near-monopoly on media isn't power.

579 This is not about Trump.
This is about us.
Sixty three million, or whatever the frigging number is who voted for President Trump, are watching this circus.
So far, the only ones in the arena are our enemies running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Meanwhile, we are here.
Watching and waiting to enter the arena.
If needed.

581 580. Only never trumpers like you are demoralized.
Trump supporters, the deplorables remember, we are now turning our attention en masse back to politics.
You see, we had been busy moving the economy and our families forward.
Now we have realized that we have to keep our attention focused on politics as well. More battles to win.
We relish the struggle.
We are energized.

We are inside the arena facing you.
You just don't know it yet.

583 What are the odds this Special Counsel takes the investigation off the front page? Sure, it will go on for a long time, several years if it is anything like the previous special investigations, but doesn't that mean it will be conducted relatively quietly? Especially when lead by such a well thought of and principled man.

Posted by: steve walsh at May 18, 2017 05:53 AM (clx/U)

584 There's a bevy of potential wins here for the GOP, provided Donald Trump is clean

-the investigation could start with the server, which started this entire mess and include Rice et al
-the well timed announcement that there was nothing to these charges for midterms

I do wonder if Democrats are overplaying their hand a bit here. If I'm not atuned to media cycles and believe that the media is out to get the guy I elected, I view this as Democrats trying to steal the Presidency from the guy I supported. This might be red meat to the dark blue areas.

If I'm Trump, I keep going after jobs and tax cuts, I start hammering the GOP Congress to get bills in front of me.
