Some Thoughts And Advice About How to Restore Your Chill

First: Something I've noticed time and time again: People get the most frustrated and emotionally angry over disputes which are currently beyond their ability to resolve.

Ever suspect someone is cheating on you? It will drive you batty. You can't quite prove it. You don't quite know.

It consumes you, until you find the truth. Then, whatever the truth is, you're mostly unburdened. Sure you're hurt and upset, but you're no longer consumed.

Unanswered questions about big eventful things are distressing. Oddly, knowing the truth, even if it's not the truth you'd hoped for, is less distressing, most of the time.

Just be aware of this and don't fall too prey to this tic of the human mind. There are many questions you don't have the answers to (and which even the Great Unbiased Jake Tapper doesn't have the answers to, believe it or not!).

But there is no way you have to get that information, nor to influence events so that the answer turns out one way or the other. You can't.

When people are confronted with this situation -- of wanting an answer or wanting a certain outcome -- but have no tangible way to influence it one way or the other, they get frustrated and emotional, almost as if emotional exertion can somehow influence events.

But that can't either.

That's what I meant by the Mr. Blond quote. Mr. Blond was a psychopath in Reservoir Dogs, but he did see this point clearly. While everyone was driving themselves batty trying to figure out if Mr. Blue was alive or dead, or free or caught by the cops, he just shrugged as he drew some milkshake up a straw: "He's either alive, or he's dead, or the cops got him, or they don't."

All true.

His perspective on many things was bent, but on this point he was being sensible: We don't have the information to answer that question, and sitting around yelling at each other and trying to puzzle the answer out from the same three pieces of entirely-inadequate information is a huge waste of time as well as one's limited supplies of psychic energy.

I don't mean like psionics. I just mean the whole combination of emotional/cognitive energy in the brain.

So anyway: Trump may have done something very wrong. Or something somewhat wrong. He might be in trouble, or maybe he's not.

Mr. Blond would recommend that no amount of deductive brainwork can gift someone with the clairvoyance to see remote places, and no amount of emotional investment can sculpt the stone of reality.

So, just sip the milkshake, and think about the things within your direct power to discover or alter.

Second: I really have to recommend the Social Media Detox. If it feels like you can't take it anymore, then you shouldn't. Take a bit of time off from the Scream Machine.

24 hours is usually enough. 48 hours will cure much of what ails ya.

How all this works, as I've said before, is that people with limited, incomplete, and biased information try to start a stampede of people into agreeing with their questionable, dubious, partisan-twisted conclusions. They make a lot of noise -- a lot of noise -- shooting off their idiot partisan pistols to get the herd stampeding in the direction they want, none of the cows quite knowing why they're all headed in this particular direction.

It's a deeply stupid way to conduct "debate" over political issues, which is why the left favors it so much.

It's also grating on the mind and spirit to have to put up with so much empty noise.

Tune it out. You now know most of what there is currently available for knowing about the latest Dumb Scandals. There is no additional information currently available, and so there's not really much reason to Run With the Stupid Bulls.

When there's more information, you'll know it: The Unbiased and Wise Jake Tapper will tweet snarkily about it.

But there's really no sense in watching a Dumb Pot waiting for it to Stupidly Boil. It may do so tomorrow; it may do so next week. It might never boil because the Idiots Who Invented the Pot never had any water in it to begin with.

But again, no amount of intellectual probing or emotional exertion is really going to bring the closure one would want. Only time does that, and since time is already working on that, that frees you up to read a book or go for a nice sunset walk.

Last week someone asked me if I was following the Social Media Madness over Trump's Big Huge Scandal of Last Week. I think it was the Comey firing, but who knows.

I said "No." Why would I? What the fuck do I care what HuffPo "reporters" and various leftist shills think about this or that?

As far as actual information, I already had most of it, and what I didn't have would come out the next day.

There's a line that goes, "You're not playing the game, The Game is playing you." I think that sums up social (or anti-social) media.

Is the technology serving you, or are you feeling compelled to serve the technology?

If the technology is there for you when you want it, then it's serving you.

If you feel you can't break away because you need to see what's happening next, then the game is playing you.

I keep recommending this guy, who's my new guru. This video explains how the internet is designed to cause you stress which only clicking on the internet can alleviate, and this one explores the topic a bit further.

It's pretty compelling stuff.

In case you trust Anderson Cooper more than a random guy on YouTube whose name you don't even know (and I personally trust the random guy much more), 60 Minutes recently did a (more superficial than the YouTube guy) piece on this so-called "Brain Hacking."

When other people's children are screaming childishly, do you try to get down into the nitty gritty of each child's childish screaming agendas, or do you shut the door and turn on a nice bit of Smooth Sounds of the Seventies?

Third: If they take down Trump, they get Pence. Now, Pence isn't great, but you know, Trump isn't turning out that great either.

But Pence shares the most important quality of all with Donald Trump: Neither is Hillary Clinton.

No matter how much they scream, Hillary Clinton is not in the White House, but off in the "woods," discovering herself or something.

Pretty straightforward from here:

1. Impeach Trump

2. You get Pence

3. Hillary keeps trying to make Chelsea Clinton a salable commodity that she can sell on her political graft QVC network

4. You get to keep laughing at her misery

Things aren't that bad.

Even if they were -- who gives a shit?

Hillary Clinton will never be president.

Never. Ever.

Never, forever.

That doesn't make for a perfect world, but it makes for a reasonable livable one.

3 Good post, Ace.

You just got to let things go, you can only affect the things you can affect.

Don't like Trump, the return desk opens in three years or so.

Love him? Then let the drama wash over and through you.
And when it has gone past, will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only you will remain.

Yes I stole that. No, I'm not sorry.

I would like him to actually have a chance to do the job we elected him to do, without the constant barrage of alleged scandals that I, for one, am confident amount to nothing.

But that is something I can't affect, other than by not buying the NYT or WaPO or watching CNN.

33 There's a reason why I'm not around on the weekends usually and it's not merely because I have other things to do to help me avoid working at work. It's to take a brief detox.

I found myself getting physically ill today I was so upset about all this Trump stuff and I went Outside and yelled at the squirrels (yes, really, the fuckers were trying to claw off the flashing on the roof at work again) and that helped. Also it made me realize how bat shit insane it was to drive up my blood pressure to getting a head ache level about something that I can't resolve and that won't matter tomorrow. Because tomorrow it will be something even stupider than today.

I do think this place helps from the primal scream point of view though. I mean, lancing the boil helps sometimes. The other day I had something that was just stuck in my head and I told Bander I just have to say it, I don't want to argue about it, I don't want to discuss it, but if I don't say it outside of my head it's going to fester. The very act of saying it out loud took away the power of obsessing about it and, you know, made me realize how cray cray it sounded when I had to say it to another human being. At least for me, being able to yelp about stuff is a vent and gives me the illusion of power and I do like pretending I have control.

121 I added some videos in the middle. The first one is pretty good -- it explains how the internet causes cravings, like a drug, by spiking dopamine. Dopamine is not a pleasure hormone, as many think, but a wanting hormone; it rises when you want something.

Oddly, dopamine rises the highest when you want something but don't know if you'll get it or not, not when you want something and know you'll get it. That's why wanting a cup of coffee in the morning isn't like hoping someoen will go out on a date with you -- wanting that coffee doesn't spike dopamine in wanting after it, because you know you'll get it.

Pleasure -- or relief -- is felt when dopamine recedes, after the want is finally satisfied.

Anyway, some social media platforms have specifically and deliberately engineered themselves to exploit this bit of brain chemistry.

And even when it's not doing so deliberately, the daily Want of News That Helps Us, hoping against News That Hurts Us, causes a sort of franticness like any craving does, spiking up dopamine, making someone want even more when they don't get what they want.

297 That's what I meant by the Mr.

All true.

All I know is :

After the dust settled last November, the Republicans won the White House, the House of Representatives, the US Senate, and the weaponized Federal Regulatory State.

Since November, the US Senate requires only a simple majority to confirm a US Supreme Court nominee. The US Supreme Court now tilts conservative.

The Dems retained Nancy Pelosi as the House minority leader and promoted Chuck Schumer to the post of Senate minority leader.

Errol Flynn was charged with statutory rape back in '43. Two underaged women (and how they were at the time, I don't know) claimed to have had sex with him.

William F. Buckley Jr., was among his defenders, forming a group dubbed "ABCDEF", the American Boys Club for the Defense of Errol Flynn. He was acquited.

"In like Flynn" became a common phrase, likening something to the ease with which Flynn could get into the womyn's drawers. Marlene Dietrich was one of many.

Unfortunately, there were rumors that he got in a few boy's drawers as well.

Press goes right to the top of the list, first priority. Not out of some misguided "revenge". No.

But to utterly disrupt the flow and control of fascist information and "marching orders", and cause the rest of the press to hunker down and play it safe.

Any "protest" goes pear-shaped into a first class riot, all those TV cameras need to be pounded into scrap, right from the start.

No, it won't remove the thousands of cel-phone cameras. But the MSM will be set back on their heels, and that's a start.

Fox News Radio does the same shit. Trump did something bad and Democrat reaction is every story.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at May 16, 2017 09:36 PM (auHtY)

420 There's the old adage that you can't prove a negative.

In this way, Trump is eternally fucked, because he can never prove he didn't have 'relations with the Russians'. They can only prove he did, and that hasn't happened yet despite the leaks about Flynn and all sorts of other shit. So I'm to believe that the Russia ties are there and proof is all but got, BUT NOT LEAKED, when these lesser things were all over the place like Perez Hilton at a gay swinger's club. The Democrat party faithful who knew this would be creaming their Wonder Woman Underoos constantly and couldn't hold it in if they had it.

So Trump knows there's no way he can prove he HASN'T done something, the press is hostile, and he's going to let it roll off his back. I think that's fucking genius.

Immediately when I saw the headline - without clicking on the story - I assumed he was trying to get Russian on board against Assad or something. No super excited about him sharing with the commies, but there may be instances where it is necessary, and perhaps this is one instance where is was warranted. The outlets spilling it was Israeli intelligence is just shit, however.

As an extreme measure, if you just can't take seeing day after day after day of lie after lie after lie and smear after smear after smear (all from anonymous, never to be named, possibly fictional sources) you can always try what I did, which is completely stop reading ALL "news" articles. I now spend about 3 minutes skimming over the top headlines, U.S. and World, which can still make my blood boil and occasionally makes me seethe with rage, and just shake your head and close the browser window and do something else. Anything else is more healthy than this hamster wheel of destruction.

Say what you will about Truman otherwise, but in two instances, the man proved that he had the balls to be a real leader. The first was not backing down from doing the necessary, and ordering the atomic bomb to be used.

The second was when he defied the deep state of his day and recognized Israel.

He may have been wrong about everything else, and I don't count myself as an expert on such things, but I'd argue that those two things are right enough that he deserves at least a little respect.

The best thing for Trump to do is cut out the interviews and focus on Judicial appointments. If Obamacare and Tax Reform aren't done by the end of the year, oh well. Hillary Clinton will never be POTUS.

Only Democrats and fools, BIRM, believe the MSM.

483 Or if they get Trump on a phony scandal, maybe it is time for violence against Dems.

Not that I would- too lazy. But others are more energetic

484 Pence is better than Hillary, but so were most of the NeverTrumpers, or Jeb!!!

Trump had the gravitas to say "America First" and to take on the DC cabal. He is compromising a lot so far, but he is facing the fully operational death star of the deep state and murderous Clinton/Obama Cartel. But Trump was right in 1990 as seen on C-Span, and the America First thing has been his theme.

Trump is a good man. Pence will play along with the machine. Trump is our last hope before push comes to shove. Deep State and MFM and globalists and oligarchs ALL want to make this 1776 LIBERTY concept fail. They have worked with the Soviets, Iran, anyone that will help defeat America First.

THEY want to RULE. We must stop them NOW.

485 Another part of the problem -- uninformed pro Trumpers. My neighbor is very pro Trump. She just sent me an article David Brooks wrote in the NYT. Something about Trump being a child, or childish. I didn't read it.

Her comment was that she didn't know who Brooks was but this made sense to her. I noticed she sent it to about ten or so more people.

486 I'm just getting sick of the Fredocons. These guys just don't know when to shut the fuck up.

Haven't been around here much myself lately. I read the articles (mostly) and some comments and then move on.

Our yard and its problems consume my daylight hours. Evenings I spend tracking down my German relatives. Southern Germany. Roman Catholic. Started here in the mid-1800s. Really, really big families. It's a lot of work.

Did I mention that well over 80% of them were in the Chicago area? It's as though Cook County was the LaBrea Tar Pits for those folks. "Oh boy, tar! McYum!" I keep thinking, "Pack up! Get the hell out of there!" But did they? Noooooooooo.

At least my Scandi siders got out onto the plains and Great Lakes and gave Nature as good as she dished out.

490 I give zero fucks about anything of this fucking nonsense until someone....ANYONE produces some actualy goddamn evidence. Until then, its just another circle jerk by a media that is conducting war against Trump.

They will say anything, write anything, DO anything to try and smear him on a daily basis. Why the fuck would I believe *anything* these assholes have to say given the last five exhausting months of never ending bullshit streaming from their pie holes?

Pics or it didn't happen motherfuckers.

491 I have come to like Trump out of spite; I have no illusions that he will not fuck up mightily at some point, and that it may have incredible implications.

But right now, there's as much evidence of Comey's claim as the private investigator's claim re: Seth Rich. We'll see who provides the proof first.

492 >>>349

Pizzagate, sadly, has been successfully torpedoed. Alex Jones gave a public apology to the 49th most influential guy in DC, a pizza parlor owner. The communities have been slowly overtaken by anti-Jew and Satan worship garbage. Occasionally a tidbit will bob up like the video of the Dutch financial trader saying that shit involving children was what made him flee the inner circles:

494 A few months ago I reached what was for me, peak rage. Not being a Trump supporter I was feeling put upon by all sides of the Trump focused teams. My rage manifested itself through a generalized ill feeling that was present most days. It was more mental than physical. I was agitated and grumpy, which is not my usual state of mind.

Following a particularly snarky, biting, and emotional tweet - which I can't even remember the contents of - it occurred to me that this behavior wasn't doing me any good. Around the same time, one of my 'friends' posted a particularly emotional and overheated anti-Trump screed on Facebook.

And so I disconnected. I deleted Twitter and Facebook from my phone. I committed to not going on those two apps on my computer for at least a few days. And I followed through on these promises to myself. The peace of mind that came along served to strengthen my commitment to unplug.

I still come here and to other places that talk about and report on the state of our politics, but perhaps because the visits are occasional this doesn't enrage me the way the social media crap does.

So, long winded endorsement for this post. Do yourself a favor, disconnect.

495 Has anybody ever seen this so-called "Comey memo"?
It has been widely reported about, but who has actual physical possession of the original ?
