Cozy

Apparently, James Comey has been running interference for the Clintons for (at least) a good 20 years:

James Comey, 1996: "It is not appropriate to bring charges against Bill Clinton."
James Comey, 2016: "It is not appropriate to bring charges against Hillary Clinton."

Now that he's out government, it will be interesting to see if any indictments start coming down.

Update: Thanks to all of you morons who pointed out the date discrepancy. Also, to broseidon for finding the actual clip, which is dated 21 June 2002.

Comey hasn't said a word about it which leads me to two conclusions:

#1 It's real and Trump did try to influence him. But Comey failed to tell anyone about it which is a crime itself.

#2 It's a total fabrication and Trump knows it because he taped the conversation.

212 On the Comey memo, I tend to believe it. I can see Trump saying something stupid like that.

BUT

A) Trump giving his opinion on a legal matter to an FBI Director is not obstruction of justice

B) If Comey thought he was truly interfering, he had a duty to report it. He did not.

C) I honestly think Trump did this PURELY because he felt like a decent guy that had been a former General in the US military was going to get railroaded. It wasn't some silly cover up.

I will say this, Trump would have been so much better off had he never brought Flynn int his campaign.

215 Ignoramus, with the pithy summary.

And, fairly sure it's correct that anything approaching obstruction would have had to be reported/acted on immediately by Comey, or he's got legal problems of his own. And, absolutely certain that there is no conceivable reason Comey would have sat on anything of consequence like this.

And, as "reported", there isn't anything important there, either. Asking/suggesting Comey "let it go", in the apparent (still not detailed) context, was not even inappropriate. Others might opt not to do it, but it's still nothing. The FBI director says "huh, OK, I'll think about it" - or whatever - and then, in reality, goes on to do whatever he was doing anyway (which is what happened).

Only mistakes so far have been 1) not firing Comey immediately 2) not immediately getting a real investigation and subsequent prosecution of Clinton under way. Said so at the time. The massive, unprecedented Clinton crime wave, and Comey's malfeasance in cooperating with the histrionic, brazen obstruction blocking any real investigation, remain the real stories.

Before becoming FBI Director, and after being a prosecutor, Comey did eight years in the private sector as the head lawyer at Lockheed and Bridgewater, and was on the board at HSBC. His background didn't fit any of these positions. I'd say he was hired and paid to help fend off investigations because of his federal prosecutorial contacts.

263 There is also this at reddit:

http://tinyurl.com/kcnmtky

a tidbit:

"
Remember, they didn't just kill Seth Rich, but also Shawn Lucas, and
Joe Montano. The link is the rigging of the convention and what that
could mean for the survival of the DNC.

Seth Rich (died July 10th, 2016) leaked the Hillary emails to
Wikileaks, which contained evidence which could be used to prove fraud
at the convention.

Joe Montano (died July 25th, 2016) was the DNC chairman just before
Wasserman Schultz took over. He could have been called as a witness.

Shawn Lucas (died Aug 2nd, 2016) spearheaded a class action lawsuit
against the Wasserman Schultz rigging the DNC primary, stemming from
Guccifer 2.0 leaked emails (prior to Wikileaks)"
and this:
"WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
This is why the DNC would not allow the FBI to look at their servers. If
they allowed the FBI to look at their servers then they would have
discovered that Seth Rich was the leaker and as we all know Seth Rich
was murdered shortly thereafter under suspicious circumstances. In other
words, somebody connected to the DNC had Seth Rich murdered because
they knew he was the leaker and was a Bernie Sanders supporter. It's no
coincidence that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange offered a reward for
information leading to Seth Rich's murderer. The Russian/Wikileaks
connection is a decoy perpetrated by the Democrat party to throw the
bloodhounds off the trail. The DNC leaks stopped after Seth's murder."

1) You admitted that Hillary Clinton broke the law, but then stated you would not prosecute. Exactly how powerful or wealthy do you have to be to avoid prosecution by the FBI?

2) What was the FBI involvement with the attack on Pam Gellar. How did you try to protect the event when you knew it was being targeted?

3) Were you involved in any way when the Russians warned the US about the Boston Bombers. Do you believe that the US should continue to try and enhance its working relationships with countries also focused on combating Salafism.

4) Under your tenure, what concrete steps did you take to combat the rising threat of Salafism in the US. After the continuing and escalating pace that occurred under your watch, what changes did you make after each failure by the FBI to stop an attack?

5) Did you investigate Saudi Arabia's claim that it was funding the Hillary campaign. How many investigations have you opened into Saudi "hacking" of the American foreign policy establishment?

6) Similarly, China "hacked" the 1996 election by giving large sums of money to the Clinton campaign. How many investigations of Chinese "hacking" have you conducted?

7) When BLM assassinated police officers in Dallas there was never a public investigation beyond the individual who was killed by the police at the scene. But to really establish if it is unusual, take a few other politicians and see what happened to the people around them involved in scandals and see what happened to them.

For example Jimmy Carter - he had a number of failures and scandals. My memory is that everyone involved with his brother, his failed hostage rescue, etc...all survived the incidents even when it was unfortunate for him that they did.

Having some perspective, considering what's realistic, is all that's needed.

There will be no impeachment.

There was no "impeachable" activity.

What is troubling - even more than before - is what was troubling for some time now: the virtual collapse of our institutions. Comey's spectacular malfeasance almost a year ago, let's start with that. And then you have the incredible behavior by some in the intel/nat. security establishment (new president's phone calls to foreign heads of state leaked? WTF?). And you have the (ongoing) judicial coup by airhead district judges (which should have been suppressed by the administration's repudiation of their ridiculous and lawless "rulings").

And the depths of the problem with the GOP, while not a complete surprise, are still very troubling. We have a president who in large measure reflects the policy desires of the bulk of the country (many of his signature policy approaches poll far above his vote count) - and he stands almost alone.

328 In other
words, somebody connected to the DNC had Seth Rich murdered because
they knew he was the leaker and was a Bernie Sanders supporter. It's no
coincidence that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange offered a reward for
information leading to Seth Rich's murderer. The Russian/Wikileaks
connection is a decoy perpetrated by the Democrat party to throw the
bloodhounds off the trail. The DNC leaks stopped after Seth's murder."

The only memo I want to see, from the dear former director, are the memos of the bathroom server and sharing of security around the world, the Clinton Foundation corruption, and, of course, the memos of Loretta meeting Bill on the tarmac. Those would be juicy, I'll bet.

Someone needs to follow the slime trail of Balloon Head McMillian, former pretend CIA (from photos of him with McCain and others not holding weapon correctly, soft hands, etc).

He sent the !Russia! dossier in the fall to McCain, who sent it to Comey. Direct pipeline.

Of course Ryan and Romney are in on the conspiracy as much as Obungo and the resist/repiss crowd. They protect the Hag as, possibly, some emails may implicate those in the GOP, too, if ever investigated.

Jefferson Hotel in Richmond is a must see, especially if you are into architecture. You can enjoy a good meal there as well.

Friday Cheers (only applicable if you are there on Friday) is a lot of fun, good music and ambiance.

American Civil War Museum.

Great locally-owned restaurants in the Shockoe Slip and surrounding areas.

One of my favorite eateries: Grandstaff and Stein Book Sellers.

And...if you love history and have never been to Colonial Williamsburg, go there. Only about 45 minutes from downtown Richmond and worth the trip.

361 Well #247 we have people who are in the process of trying to overthrow the duly elected President of the United States and takeover the Government. I would say that either calls for shooting or as a second option public hanging to get the message through to the rest that you can't do that kind of thing. And yes I do think it has gotten to that point because if we as Conservatives don't get them under control the rest of the Left has been making it very clear their plans for us. So we need to strike at them when we have the advantage or get ready to feel their boots on our necks for a long long time. It has reached the point where it is one or the other, time to pick a side and let the chips fall.

From CBS News June 20, 2002, 11:16 AM

Feds Close Clinton Clemency Probe

The federal government has closed its probe - with no charges filed - into former President Bill Clinton's grants of clemency to four men accused of bilking the government of millions of dollars, authorities said Thursday. U.S. Attorney James B. Comey said his office's investigation into other pardons that Mr. Clinton issued just before leaving office will continue. Comey's decision to end the investigation of clemency for the men from the Rockland County Hasidic community of New Square takes the spotlight off Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who received overwhelming support from the insular community in her 2000 bid for the Senate.

This is not necessarily the entire AP report put out, or the only edition.

Posted by: phreshone at May 17, 2017 01:09 PM (DpOmP)

363 A point that has been neglected here is that the President has full and absolute power to pardon anyone who commits a federal crime and is convicted of a federal crime. So with that power comes the ability to haggle the prosecution of a guy, say Gen. Lynch. There can't be obstruction of justice when you hold that power.

Trump should just pardon Lynch. Shove that down their throat right in the middle of this dust up.

The Constitution is awe inspiring.

IIRC, Comey had a hand in the HSBC investigation and the Scooter Libby persecution.

Not only has Comey covered for the Clintons on three occasions (that we currently know of, that is), he was also on the board of HSBC, supposedly to make sure they followed the rules after their little legal dustup. HSBC was a big Clinton contributor. And Comey got paid mucho dinero for doing something for Lockheed, also a big Clinton Foundation contributor.

How does a life long "public servant" get a net worth of over 11 million? He should never have been confirmed.

I think we're about to find out who the biggest s.o.b. of them all is.

365 262 What I can't work out is why he publicly announced FBI investigations into the Clinton twice. They are STILL investigating the Clinton Foundation. I get the sense he wanted to do his job properly, but wanted to keep his job even more.
--------

A mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma, eh?

My suspicion at the time it had something to do with Wikileaks somehow, that he was being forced to do that (the second time) or even more damaging information was going to be released. But I dunno. It was very strange indeed. And then "they" reviewed 600,000 emails over the weekend and "Oops, my bad, nothing to see here move along." Bizarre to say the least. There has been some high level fuckery going on for a long time, and there are some very evil bastards in the thick of it.

Still waiting to hear from all those agents relieved to have Comey gone, disturbed by what he had done to the organization's reputation etc.

I must believe there are good hard working men and women in the intelligence community. Perhaps. But nowhere near the top.

Damn special characters, can't paste in full piece...

There is a 3/31/16 Time piece about the Clinton email investigation. Goes on how "Comey" had written in the Whitewater Senate Report things that trashed the clintons and the handling. They attribute it to Comey, but it was a large report written by dozens of special prosecutors.

The piece being quoted was placed out there ahead of the FBI email findings, that Comey was impartial, if not antagonistic, and thus the findings of the FBI should be trusted.

Comey may have been a part of the Whitewater report, but he very well could have been the one saying, well this stuff is bad, but is it really something appropriate to prosecute. For all we know, he was covering for them the whole time, and leaking info back to the Clintons,...

Posted by: phreshone at May 17, 2017 01:34 PM (DpOmP)

374 "What I can't work out is why he publicly announced FBI investigations into the Clinton twice."

Yes, curious. Here's my best explanation.

Comey was complicit in Lynch's hamstringing the Hillary investigation, from the start.

Important point: He would never have held that press conference if Lynch hadn't been caught with Bill on the tarmac.

That made Lynch set up Comey "to make the decision." Comey didn't have the balls to go against Lynch and Obama, but he did need to cover his own ass for posterity and to maintain his image, hence the press conference.
