Could this be more divorced from reality? Dude, just watch Frequency with your dad. Problems solved. And then you can write an "autoethnography" about the catharsis you and your shame-ridden father felt when Dennis Quaid goes all shotgunny. He's not the only "academic" keenly interested in "hautnological" studies, either:

Which is a metaphor for what university is today. (Minority) students were quoted in the LAT as being thrilled when California dropped its high school exit exam, because "now I can start my career at the University of California," to which they'd been admitted. The exit exam consisted of 10th grade English, and 8th grade math. And students could attempt to pass it in each of their sophomore, junior, and senior years. And despite this, these idiots could not pass it. It posed an insuperable barrier until the state waived it. My disgust knows no bounds. Anyone who could not pass it the first time is NOT college material. My boys came home laughing after taking it in their sophomore year. Real data/history doesn't support the left wing narrative (and can't consistently since the narrative changes at a rapid pace) so rather then making their theories fit the observed facts the left has instead decided to change the facts.
This is partly practical - if you have to compare say social vs capitalism and argue the benefits in a data driven way the socialist side loses - but partly this is also supportive of how the left has come to view reality. Conservative view reality as something independent from our emotions or desires. The universe doesn't care that you don't like the way it works. You can take *actions* to improve outcomes, based on analysis, sure. But if you keep doing the same things, you get the same results. The left believes instead that reality is a shared construct. The reason the universe is what it is is preciously because people believe it to me. So, if everyone believes strongly that Obamacare works, it will work. Or socialism. Or that you can change your sex by cosmetic surgery and putting on makeup, etc. And that is why they hate us so it should be pointed out. All of the world's problems are ultimately our "bad thought". If everyone believed, or was forced to believe "good thought" these problems would disappear. Posted by: 18-1 at May 11, 2017 03:57 PM (eSx+E) 115

This sort of horseshit "academic" work is nothing new. Started toward the end of the '70's, where people just started making stuff up and publishing it, as if it were actually intelligent. I was in college and understood exactly none of it, but I was expected to churn out a bunch of this crap for grades. I had a graduate school professor of architecture who taught exactly nothing, but had plenty of bullshit phrases that made him sound "smartish." Nearly failed that one because I basically pointed out that the emperor was in his underpants.
It's not academic, it's a load of manure. And the schools that praise and support this crap are, themselves, loads of manure. To the tune of hundreds of thousands of wasted dollars per year. Posted by: tcn in AK at May 11, 2017 04:08 PM (NXsWM) 194
*shoots Sporkatus in knee with arrow*
Hey, now. The best way to rack up the arrow damage is with sneak attack *and* a compound bow. Assassin quarry bonuses and favored enemy are all well and good, but it doesn't beat playing a beefmeister who can add multiple d6s and a strength bonus to their shots basically every time. Most elf types are way too faggy to have a good strength bonus. Of course if you can convince your DM that firing a bow isn't a more specialized/difficult skill than swinging a sword you can be a barbarian multiclass and keep a special bow that you can only fire when you're really, really angry. Although the highest ranged damage I ever came up with as a thought experiment in 3.5 was a titan-bloodline giant viper man with a size increase to huge and a further size category bumped Greatcrossbow with the ability to more or less fire trees at people and add 1/2 dex bonus. Deja Vu, in particular, is underrated. Tony Scott had lost a lot of his cache with a lot of people by that point, and when he produced a solid little time travel movie, no one noticed. I just saw it again last week. It's on HBO or one of those. Even though I know the story (I've seen it like five times), all the reveals and set-pieces still work. my only gripe is that if you can shoot a laser into the past, obviously it's not hard at all to send a radio signal or hijack the phone with an induced electrical current or just write out a message on the wall with rapidly moving laser light. The problem with the social sciences and contemporary humanities is that they have intellectual penis envy of the STEM subjects.
Laymen can't read papers on STEM subjects, but it's not because of pretension by the authors (shitty writing skills, yes, but pretension, no). It's because they're writing about the interaction of things that are far removed from laymen's experience, which necessitates specialized vocabulary and in general familiarity with everything that has gone on before in the field. (Without specialized vocabulary, it would be necessary to describe everything in chemistry, say, as "the thing that goes up on the thingy bob that hangs off the middle of the molecule"). Without knowing the field - and therefore the issues - and without knowing the specialized vocabulary, it is impossible to figure out what a STEM paper is talking about. The social sciences and humanities don't have that problem. They talk about phenomena and concepts that laymen can perfectly well understand. But to arrogate to themselves a veneer of intellectual loftiness, they intentionally adopt an arcane, convoluted usage that makes their writing impenetrable. Oh, here's a competing one I read earlier today over at PJMedia's Hot Mic: We often highlight academic lunacy on this site, but this Cal-Poly professor who wrote a paper on why the eastern fox squirrel is a victim of a "gendered, racialized, and speciesist" form of media bias may be up for some kind of award. Yes, you read correctly. The eastern fox squirrel. Breitbart: Teresa Lloro-Bidart, an associate professor of liberal studies at Cal Poly, argues in a recently published postmodernist research paper that eastern fox squirrels are on the receiving end of racially-charged media bias. Lloro-Bidart claims that she worked towards such a conclusion by analyzing the coverage of eastern fox squirrels through "feminist posthumanist," and "feminist food studies" lenses. Lloro-Bidart contends that eastern fox squirrels, which is the most populous species of tree squirrel in North America, are on the receiving end of such bigotry due to several factors, most notably, the "western, modernist," framework by which humans interpret their behaviors and actions. At first I thought someone was trying to put one over on us. But then I followed the link to the academic "journal" in which this learned paper was published. "Gender, Place, and Culture: A Journal of Feminist Geography" actually exists -- which begs the question: Who is more insane? 1 ) The professor who wrote this idiocy or 2 ) the "academic journal" that published it? https://pjmedia.com/blog/liveblogevent/thursdays-hot-mic-6/ Posted by: artisanal 'ette at May 11, 2017 04:45 PM (fceHP) 366

Corporal Hauntings
What this guy clearly lacked was corporal punishment. (Re)membering Father Actually, he is trying to express (Re)remembering Father. "Membering" has nothing to do with memories (even though, to a dolt like this they might sound similar). "Remembering" is the act of putting back together pieces of memory to construct an accurate picture of a past event, thought, or image. You cannot deconstruct "remember" in the way he's attempting. It just makes you sound like an idiot. He should have realized this when he arrived at the same word he was trying to alter in his oh-so-clever way. Although ... he might have really been talking about digging up dear old dad and putting his parts back together in a way that he thinks is better. Of course, that would have been "re-membering dear old dad, who ruined my life and was the worst person on Earth". David Purnell Depart Crit Qual Res, Vol. 4 No. 4, Winter 2015; (pp. 65-82) LOL. I get confused about the whole STEM thing. I can think of occupations that require a college degree, that aren't all SJW, but I don't know if they would be classified as STEM. My degree is in Speech Pathology. I had to take courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Audiology, Embryology, etc. But I also had to take some stupid Ed classes because often Speech Pathologists work in schools. I don't know if I'm STEM or not.

They don't do the games? How can you not do the games?? Ok not judging either. Maybe they don't have the space. Not judging.
How many verses did you have to memorize to get all that? I know they gave out some Timothy Awards last week, and it was some crazy number like 400 verses or something. (I personally know about twelve. Slacker am I.) Posted by: grammie winger at May 11, 2017 06:01 PM (dFi94) Oh they have the room. Church finished a $4 million expansion a few years ago in which the old sanctuary was turned into a kid's center and huge gym was built. There is WAY more than enough room for the games. I have no idea why they don't do the games. They play basketball and stuff but they don't do the games which is just *hands all over the place* Gah, to get my Timothy Award, which, sadly, got lost in a move at some point, I had to memorize 500 verses I think. That's on top of what was required to complete the books and pass the tests. My Meritorious Award requirement was, among other things, to memorize I John. Not chapter one, the entirety of I John. Which, needless to say, I don't remember now because the more 29 you are, the less you remember. Oh the Opinions I have about the church doing a $4 million renovation and getting rid of the sanctuary and we're now in folding chairs in the gym on Sunday. To be fair, it's a ten year growth plan and the priority was expanding room for the school but dear sweet merciful heavens, we more than doubled the size and went from a sanctuary to the gym. That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. Posted by: alexthechick - ho ho ho now I've got a Ravage at May 11, 2017 06:09 PM (dEQP3) 571

Posted by: TexasDan at May 11, 2017 06:12 PM (yL25O) Yup. I mean, the name's the same and everything but all new branding. It's interesting because my parents worked with the pastor's parents for years and years and years at a religious institution. I'll have issues sometimes with things our pastor says and I am literally "Dude, I know your parents. I know your professors. I know who taught you Greek since he taught me Greek too. Dude. No." I really don't think the Horde realizes that when I say I was raised hardcore Evangelical Christian, I mean it. This, by the by, does explain the rampant use of profanity. alexthechick - I know more and more churches are going to that particular building model. to make the facility more mult-purpose. The trade-off is you lose the beauty of the sanctuary. Still. No games, eh. Hmmm.
I wish I could memorize. I've tried and tried. My head is a sieve. Fortunately I have Rev. I can say, "What's that verse were it says temporary light afflictions?" and he's all over it like a dog with a bone. However, if they ever send him to the camps, I'm sunk. 1 John is one of my most favorite books of the Bible. What a treasure to have that stored in your heart. The writer Robert Heinlein predicted a time he called "The Crazy Years" in his Future History stories. His timeline placed the Crazy Years in the 1960's, which was pretty good considering he developed his timeline of the future in 1939-1940. But I'm thinking we're living Crazy Years V2.
