By the way, on that sad clown Colbert, I wouldn't really recommend this Time piece about him (which is negative, but still not worth your time), except for this good description of what most late night "entertainment" now is: Colbert has "created a show that's worth blogging about but not worth watching."

I disagree that any of these shows are "worth blogging about," but it does seem that they're performing noncomedy for the express purpose of getting bloggers to advertise for them.

My admittedly limited understanding of this, is that Colbert started off trying to do the somewhat apolitical late night host thing, but that annoyed his ardent commie followers and they left. It was also supposedly pretty bland and so middle America stuck with Fallon as they were already familiar with him. So Colbert went back to his "republicans are the devil!" schtick and the hardcore lefties came back and boosted his ratings.

183 Shows like Carson were a different era -- back then news was on a 24 hr. cycle, but entertainment news was on a 30 day cycle. It was nice to tune in and see entertainers and find out about their next movie, or their plans for Vegas, or who the next big comedian was, or whatever.

When that was no longer relevant due to cable entertainment news channels and then the internet, the old late night formula was obsolete.

So I don't think it is in any way fair to compare the current infestation with past greats like Carson since it is a different type of show. And I understand them getting all political since that is about the only thing that moves fast enough to warrant daily commentary and draw an audience to tune in.

And I don't blame them for going left, since the young, college kids, unemployed, etc. are the ones up late watching "comedy" shows.

This is what they want - fine, let them have it.
