A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, But If You're a Jew, Have They Got Noose For You!

The word "Brooklyn," with all the imagery, connotations and history it conjures has an almost mythic quality to it. I was born and raised there in 1960, and to those of my generation and older who have that birthplace in common, we can confirm that everything you ever imagined about the borough is as visceral and colorful as its distinct accent. Don't get me wrong; it certainly had its problems, some of them ugly. But whatever its flaws, I don't think there's any other place in the country where the ideals of the American melting pot, especially of tolerance, came as close to being a reality as it.

One of the centers of my world was Brooklyn College. Far from being a great student, or even an average student, I nevertheless enjoyed my time there (IYKWIM). And as a Jew, the idea of someone hassling you (unless it was the Chassids who pestered you to go the mitzvah tank and put on tefilin [look it up]) was about the furthest thing from your mind. In fact, Brooklyn College was, as you might expect, a hotbed of pro-Jewish and pro-Israel student political activity.

What a difference 40-odd years makes. Today, Brooklyn College has the dubious distinction of being among the top 10 college administrations most friendly to terrorists and hostile to the First Amendment in the nation.

At Brooklyn College, President Michelle Anderson responded to posters protesting the links between the campus chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine and Hamas by tearing them down and denouncing their sponsor, the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Anderson emphasized that Brooklyn College's status as a public university and its obligation to uphold the First Amendment did not in her view extend to speech she considered, without proof or substantiation, "hateful" or "bullying."

President Anderson failed to address the posters' central claim that Students for Justice in Palestine is funded by the terrorist organization Hamas, and exists to spread Hamas's genocidal propaganda against Israel and the Jews. Instead, she cited the widely-discredited smear site of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as the basis for her criticism of the Freedom Center.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, considering the rise of what can only be described as a bona fide fascistic, insurrectionist movement with college campuses as their origin.

If fascism comes to America, it will be through our college and university system.

The biggest cowards in our country today are many, if not most, of our college and university administrators followed closely by a fair amount of their faculty. They are allowing their institutions to be taken over by a monolithic world view that is increasingly totalitarian and antithetical to the diversity of opinion on which the search for truth depends.

The inmates are running the asylum -- and not with any of the humor of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's only a slight exaggeration to say that Social Justice Warriors are to social justice what the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea is to democracy. In a few years, freshman handbooks may no longer be necessary. They can give out copies of Orwell's Animal Farm instead.

A common thread with all of this is not just the usual suspects wanting to overthrow "By Any Means Necessary" the United States, but the nexus between Leftists and Islamists, taqqiya-centric or otherwise:

. . . In an anonymously leaked e-mail sent to Thomas Paradise (yes, Paradise), head of the Fahd Center, three Center faculty members – Joel Gordon, Ted Swedenburg, and Mohja Kahf – slammed (Phyllis) Chesler as “a prominent Islamophobe” who expresses anti-Muslim “bigotry,” commits “hate speech,” and has been published by “the ultra-right Breitbart forum” and other “right-wing platforms.” (It's true that, since her fall from feminist grace, Chesler has written less often for leftist than conservative outlets, this one included: she's done so because the latter tend to be far more open to a diversity of views than the former.) Chesler's views, the three Arkansas professors wrote, were so far out that they simply could not be “tacitly accepted as part of the discourse.” But then, what else can you expect from lackeys of an authoritarian foreign government that exerts severe and (when necessary) violent control over “the discourse”-in addition to denying religious freedom, imprisoning dissidents, and executing gays and apostates?

Despite the fact that, in this instance, the University of Arkansas took millions from Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin-Talal (the 9/11 hijacker apologist who said the Jews forced Rudy Giuliani to return his check after the attack) to fund the Fahd Center, the issue of money is a distant second compared to the mindset of academia all over the country, even in what was the epicenter of American secular and religious Judaism, Brooklyn. And that mindset is defend Islam to the hilt, blame America, blame Israel and silence anyone who dares raise a voice of opposition.

There are those on Capitol Hill who are sounding the alarm about the concomitant threat of the sanctioned quashing of the First Amendment. Congressman Sean Duffy (R) Wisconsin, has written a letter to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to see what can be done, vis a vis the withholding of funds for public universities, to combat this epidemic of hate that is being tolerated if not explicitly endorsed by university officials:

Duffy is asking DeVos to provide him with "a set of specific actions the Department of Education can take to ensure that taxpayer-funded institutions of higher education create and support a fair environment that protects speech and fosters dialogue." He also requested "specific recommendations" for actions that Congress can take to ensure taxpayer-funded colleges and universities "foster an honest, equitable, and fair discussion of political issues and thought."

"I implore you to be mindful of these politically intolerant environments that our taxpayer dollars are funding throughout the United States, and to take any and all necessary action to prevent this systematic suppression of free speech," Duffy wrote.

In her short tenure, Secretary DeVos has been less than stellar, at least in her public statements, which is about all that we have seen from her, so I am not hopeful about her zeal in presenting this problem to the President. In fact, I think it's crucial that President Trump deal with this because academia is the poisoned wellspring from where much of the opposition to him and in fact to the majority of the American people has been, and is coming from, and with a fury and persistence the like of which we have not seen since the late 60s. The time for action is now.

72 There's a great book called The Bronx is Burning about NYC in 1977. Race trouble, crime, arson, the Yankees, the Big Blackout, a crazy mayoral race, Son of Sam.

By 1977, most of the South Bronx was already gone. But that's exactly when a lot of Brooklyn neighborhoods were imploding. Sad, sad stuff, much of which was brought on by bad government.

ESPN made a good mini-series based on the book that focused more on the Yankees. There's a hilarious scene with Steinbrenner and Piniella hiding in a hotel bathroom shower because they fear the wrath of Billie Martin.

84 It's funny (funny-queer, not funny-haha) that EVIL follows the same path time and time again. 1930's Germany. Blame the Jews, blame those associated with the Jews, make yourself a victim of the Jews and work that angle until you get your hands on the levers of power. Than words turn into deeds, and deeds turn into mass killings. 1920's Russia, substitute Kulak for Jew. 1970's Cambodia, substitute Lon Nol supporter or educated for Jew, now in 2017 on our own soil in or campuses, it's back to Jew again.

Evil does not rest.

85 What we're seeing in colleges and universities now is much worse than what it was in the late sixties.

I'll give it another year and we'll start seeing a lot of violence spilling out of these institutions (mental?) onto the streets with much more force than what we're even seeing now or in the past. These people want a real war and I'm starting to wonder if the American people are up to fighting back. All evidence so far says, no.

I know I told this story but it's worth repeating. When I was a freshman at Brooklyn, the Black and Puerto Rican Students Union invaded and occupied (appropriately enough) Whitehead Hall. The chancellor, John Kneller, told them to leave immediately, or else. When they refused, he sent in the tactical squad from the 63rd Precinct, who administered hickory shampoos con gusto. The students cheered as the miscreants were dragged away.

Today, those miscreants were in the Obama administration, no doubt.

That's literally true: NYC leads with 11, IIRC. They occurred during the Draft Riots of 1863, which is why liberals invariably start counting lynchings AFTER 1863, usually in 1870.

And they were lynching blacks not for offense, real or imagined, but rather simply because they were black.

236 I had a spare 4 3/4 hours to kill the other day so I watched The Memory of Justice. The basic theme, I think, is that the SS killers and other war criminals are not that different from you and me. The first half was good but the second half was Daniel Ellsberg telling us that Vietnam was just as bad as the Holocaust. This was made in the mid 70s so equating Zionism with Nazism wasn't a thing yet or I'm sure they'd have played a few bars of that.

One of the good things was a jovial former Hitlerjugend saying that all those rallies and what not must have been just him because nobody else he talks to knows anything about them.

Well... we had Radars and such on the deck above the bridge.... and I was sitting up there at down one day... joking with a couple of my guys...

I said... 'wait... which way is Washington?'... we figured it out... so I got down and started praying to Washington like Moslems do to Meca... 'please bring us home.... please bring us home'...

Well.. within three days.... we had over 30 guys up there... at dawn... with towels... 'please bring us home'.... even had a Holy Compass to point to figure out which was Washington Was...

308 I guess there was a gas chamber at Dachau but it was unused. They outsourced their genocide:

In 1942, the crematorium area was constructed next to the main camp. It included the old crematorium and the new crematorium (Barrack X) with a gas chamber. There is no credible evidence that the gas chamber in Barrack X was used to murder human beings. Instead, prisoners underwent "selection"; those who were judged too sick or weak to continue working were sent to the Hartheim "euthanasia" killing center near Linz, Austria. Several thousand Dachau prisoners were murdered at Hartheim. Further, the SS used the firing range and the gallows in the crematoria area as killing sites for prisoners.

--Heh. I have a colleague on my team at work that makes the daily grind tolerable. He's of Mexican descent and is an Army vet who voted for Trump. We joke around A LOT at work. He once told me he was upset that he was no longer the funniest guy in the office, but we both have similarly dark senses of humor. He jokes that I'm a rayciss and an alcoholic (the latter may be true, LMAO).

So one time a partner contractor sent out a blurb that was a kind of pep talk. In one line the manager actually unironically used the verbiage of "walking in lockstep" to better performance or something.

I of course was to weak to resist quipping "You know who else wanted to march in lockstep to a better future . . ." to which my colleague answered "Your hero!" and before I lost myself to laughter I blurted immediately, deadpan, "He's not my hero. He was a failure!"

I wonder how many of the other co-workers think we're sick and deranged.

--The Scots heavily settled Canada. Banff is named after a town in Scotland. The Hudson's Bay Company was heavily staffed not only by Scots, but also Orkneyites. Not only could the people of the Orkneys tolerate harsh weather, but the shortest sea route to Hudson Bay from London went around the north of Great Britain, past the Orkneys. Many place names around Winnipeg are named for Orkneyites: Isbister, Spence, Inkster.

Newfoundland is course an aberration. Their accent struck me as half Irish, half mainstream Canadian. It stands to reason, since a lot of Irish fishermen have been settled there for centuries, long before even the Potato Famine.

It was the first concentration camp for political prisoners. With the outbreak of the war, Jews were gradually forced into ghettos. With the invasion of the Soviet Union, the Ensatzgruppen shot over 1.5 million Jews in Russia/Ukraine/Baltics. By January of '42, Himmler commenced with the construction of the death factories because gassing was more humane - for the murderers. And more efficient.

Son of Sam? Yeah, Jeffrey Dahmer became a Christian before he was killed in prison too. I know the minister who became his chaplain. He wrote a book about it. He left out the gory details and basically concentrated on Dahmer's faith journey and ultimate baptism. He clearly states he had his doubts, but after spending a long period of bible study with Dahmer, he became convinced of the sincerity of his faith.

Dahmer reportedly said "How could a just God forgive someone as wretched as me?" Well, see - that's where the Gospel comes in.

371 "Frankfurt was the first university the Nazis tackled, precisely because it was the most self-confidently liberal of major German universities, with a faculty that prided itself on its allegiance to scholarship, freedom of conscience, and democracy. The Nazis knew that control of Frankfurt University would mean control of German academia. And so did everyone at the university.

Above all, Frankfurt had a science faculty distinguished both by its scholarship and by its liberal convictions; and outstanding among the Frankfurt scientists was a biochemist-physiologist of Nobel-Prize caliber and impeccable liberal credentials. When the appointment of a Nazi commissar was announced...and every teacher and graduate assistant at the university was summoned to a faculty meeting to hear this new master, everybody knew that a trial of strength was at hand. I had never before attended a faculty meeting, but I did attend this one.

The new Nazi commissar wasted no time on the amenities. He immediately announced that Jews would be forbidden to enter university premises and would be dismissed without salary on March 15; this was something that no one had thought possible despite the Nazis' loud anti-Semitism. Then he launched into a tirade of abuse, filth, and four-letter words such as had been heard rarely even in the barracks and never before in academia... [He] pointed his finger at one department chairman after another and said, "You either do what I tell you or we'll put you into a concentration camp." There was silence when he finished; everybody waited for the distinguished biochemist-physiologist. The great liberal got up, cleared his throat, and said, "Very interesting, Mr. Commissar, and in some respects very illuminating: but one point I didn't get too clearly. Will there be more money for research in physiology?"

The meeting broke up shortly thereafter with the commissar assuring the scholars that indeed there would be plenty of money for "racially pure science." A few of the professors had the courage to walk out with their Jewish colleagues, but most kept a safe distance from these who only a few hours earlier had been their close friends. I went out sick unto death--and I knew that I was going to leave Germany within forty-eight hours."--Austrian economist Peter Drucker, 1933
