Obamacare Cost-Sharing Subsidies Will Not Be Part of the Deal Republicans Make to Keep Democrats From Shutting the Government Down, Ryan Claims

In exchange for you continuing funding Obamacare, we'll allow you the benefit of also being permitted to continue funding Planned Parenthood.

We are always bargaining from a position of weakness. Never strength. Just this cramped posture of a beaten boy who rolls up into a ball covering his head and crying "Uncle."

And by the way, I assume this is a negotiating position and when the Democrats shut down the government, we'll give in on some cost-sharing subsidies for Obamacare.

John Sexton explains what cost-sharing subsidies are: Direct payments to insurance companies

Cost-sharing reduction payments are separate from the subsidies used to lower the cost of insurance premiums for people buying Obamacare plans on the exchanges (those who make under 400% of the federal poverty line). CSRs are additional payments made directly to insurers to lower out-of-pocket costs including copayments and annual deductibles. However, the way the law is written means that insurers must discount those items for people at the low end of the income scale whether or not they are receiving the money to cover it from the federal government. So if the CSRs are cut off, as Democrats worry the Trump administration made decide to do, insurers will be losing, even more on the exchanges than they already are.

Insurers are mandated to offer discounts to the poor, Sexton reports, so the cost-sharing subsidies are really just a gimmicky rigged game to try to disguise the fact that yes, you are subsidizing other people for their insurance. The government taxes you, the government orders insurers to lower costs for the poor, the government taxes you more and gives some money to the insurers.

Without the subsidies, the insurance companies will lose money even faster.

That is just money that is basically government health care for all, including illegals. I'd rather see Obamacare, which is just socialized medicine via subsidies and mandates, rather see it DIE.

But maybe I miss something and I die instead ... just 4 more years till Medicare, for which at least I paid something. I plan to be healthy for another ten ... but hospitals really rack up the charges for even small things, cuz nobody cares how much they bill when they have "insurance" funded by government.

oh well ..I can't afford to stress over it ... waiting for the corn to emerge, robins to fly, flowers to pop. C'est la vie.

I was switched to Medicare last year, but my wife is still on it. First few months of this year it was costing us about $58 a month. Now the "exchange" wants $520 a month for her Medicaid coverage, because they decided I make too much money. The only income we have is my Social Security and a tiny pension of $320, and that's it.

Any of you think that, along with the mortgage, other insurance, utilities, groceries, prescriptions, etc, etc, we can afford an extra $500 for fucking Medicaid? And you know how many doctors take Medicaid? Not very damned many.

And we don't qualify for actual Medicaid (again, make too much money). I don't see a way out of this short of blowing my fucking brains out....

The whole fiasco is designed on moving money into an industry that has bottomless needs. There will never be enough money to keep everyone healthy. But that's not the point. The most viable market is one where unsubsidized competition exists. The object is to drive down costs of the entire enterprise. But that's not what we have. We are getting mandated plans wherein the providers are guaranteed money by a third party. The end-user has little say in the exchange of payments for services. Consequently, like in education, there's a bottomless supply of money and no check on costs. Insurance, and expensive at that, coverage will increase but actual service will worsen.

It is a horribly designed, anti-market approach.

It goes even beyond insurance. An example is the mammograms. Pre-Ocare, it was recoomended that women over 35 get one annually. O-Care changed that to 40. And that's just one many examples. So even if you have no insurance, Ocare still makes your life worse.
